Student Designers Stage Charity Fashion Show There is no better fashion show than one that is done for a good cause. It is inspiring to know that young designers are not only using their passion and talent for the arts and their successes to encourage other young individuals to develop their skills and pursue their dreams. The fact that they use it to encourage people to each out and give as much or as little as they can to help other people’s sufferings and needs and that even the littlest thing they can contribute can actually make a difference on another people’s lives.

There have been many charity fashion shows staged by inspiring young designers, one of which is the annual charity fashion show by the Kingscliff TAFE Events Management students. They created light designs that can be worn almost anywhere and any time of the day and very comfortable. The collection signifies hope and happiness.

The proceeds of the show will serve as medical assistance to cancer patients and help them to hopefully recover from illness and if not, to at least help them get through their battle. They also made interesting garments for a clothing line and sold items and part of the profits goes to children battling cancers. Another is the Leeds Charity Fashion Show which takes place every September of each year at LMU City Campus. Here student designers join forces to come up with a show that would support UNICEF in helping children and their families in the third world countries – foods, clothing, medicines and educational assistance.

05

One also is a charity fashion show from the student designers of City of Bath College. The proceeds of their show will help raise funds for cancer research in the United Kingdom. Charity fashion shows are often independently produced by student designers and sometimes with the support of the school’s faculty and at times sponsored by successful designers and store owners, probably wanting to give back and or inspire young designers.

They do everything from the garments to be worn by the models, student models do their own make-ups or there are also volunteers to the part, students work on the stage backgrounds, music and videos as well as the invitations and logos and everything else. It is touching to see student designers not only create magical designs but like have a big heart as well and they are using their talent to help others.

Students Botanical Fashion Show We have heard of various kinds of fashion shows, using innovative and friendly materials and textiles for the fashion collections and even edible fashion, but a botanical fashion show? This is definitely the first of its kind, and the good thing is that, it’s awesome and went very successful and they are sure to do it yearly from now on.

It is interestingly impressive how imaginative and unique fashion students can come about, who would have thought. Each piece from the collection were made from a variety of evergreens, seeds, grass and maple leaves; bleached oak leaves, mosses, grass leaves and seed heads; and crops like tobacco and banana leaves, cotton and coffee beans.

The best designers so far were Shiela Gordon-Smith, Jasmine LaCoursiere and Eva Johnson, they have made various designs from casual clothing wear for men and women and wedding dresses as well as accessories, shoes, bags and head/hair dresses. The objective of this program is to use plants as the subject of art and so student designers investigated topiaries, bonsai, sod furniture, plant fibers and dyes, floral designs, botanical illustrations and more‌

07

Each design is mostly hand made which what makes it all the more interesting; you can’t help but watch in awe at how creative these students were. They can make dresses and skirts out of leaves, grasses and seeds, and something you really can not imagine can be made out from.

Days and weeks before the show, these students were given the challenge, that is to define their artistic vision and then to create their own outlines and how they would come about with their designs or collections. The Art of Horticulture is simply the best, it gives training that is no similar with other schools. The very motive of this program is to develop creativity in students, to explore their imaginations and to think from perspective of multiple disciplines in a diverse field.

The Last Runway Fashion Show “What would you wear if there is nothing left?” This is the concept and theme for the student fashion show made by student designers and members of the Colorado State University’s Department of Design and Merchandising, they called it – The Last Runway Fashion Show.

Student designers working on a recycled piece… It is quite amazing and fun, given that the whole concept is to make a collection of trendy and beautiful dresses out of recycled materials. They have to come up with a very unique design and use materials that you would not think of using for a dress and or something that you thought should end up in the garbage in the first and when put together in dress can actually look amazing.

You can’t help but be amazed at how incredibly talented and creative these young designers are, when they tell what materials they use – the people would all go like, what?! Wow?!

11

The reason why they came up with such a brilliant idea is to inspire designers in creating designs that reflects futuristic concepts and militant survival-based civilization as well as, to promote the Clean Environment advocacy – the 3R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle. There were many fashion professionals, designers, celebrities and people from the fashion and art magazines and the media who were in attendance, and they were all quite impressed.

This piece is 100% made of recycled materials… At the end of the show, the tickets were raffled and winners received various gift cards courtesy by local businesses in Fort Collins. Proceeds were also donated to charities programs to help young designers and artists pursue their dreams. You would have not guessed some of the designs to be of recycled materials if you do not know the show’s theme. The show was a blast, there were a lot of laughs shared and it was a success.

The show featured works from final year students from bachelor of Designs, showcasing collections in different categories and using innovative materials and coming up theme such as futuristic designs and three dimensional (3D) PVC outfits or garments made from fabric wastes and hand-made metal sequins.

Stephens College Annual Student Designer Fashion Show If there is anything that is certain in this world – that is CHANGE. Everything changes eventually, so is “fashion,” and Missouri has been experiencing tumultuous weather patterns recently and with that inspiration in mind, the Stephens College thought of EVOLUTION to be the theme for the 68th Annual Student Designer Fashion Show. Junior and senior student designers made showcased a collection inspired by the progression of a day and the changing times.

The show features designs that show the changing pattern of weather or something like a complete fashion climate – from calm or before stormy weather style to edgy sort of what they referred to as “whirl trends.” From a fine and fair weather outfit to a windy and cold get-ups, from a day dress to mid-afternoon and then interrupted by a storm or a cloud burst leading to a night out.

We dress by the weather, what suits the day and something we would feel comfortable on in a given time, day and weather. Is it sunny today? Will a hut fit right? Perhaps the outfit is overdressed for such a fine weather. The look of the show transitions from light to dark, from day to night, shows the changing weather, season and locations.

17

The collections introduced to people the ever changing powers of the Mother Nature and how it influences our mood and fashion taste. They featured designs from swimwear to casual dress, business wear to formal dresses. Outfits that fit a dinner at a fancy restaurant and pink and light dresses for a walk at the park, sweat suits for stormy and cold rainy day to a party night out outfit and regular day’s wear.

All the garments featured are not too fancy; they are comfortable daily wears that are maybe simple but chic, fresh and fashionable.
