CASSIDY ANDERSON & HAYDEN FUNK You know the story...where two single people are just living their lives doing their thing until one day, that appointed time comes where their two worlds collide, and just like that, their entire world changes and their lives are never the same. #HOTLINEBLING? Why not?!? She’s got plenty of ring to bling, and their chemistry is quickly nearing the boiling stages. With a wedding just a couple of months away, we just had to!

Few would say that fairy tales don’t come true...this couple, along with Fashioned, would beg to differ. That being said, meet Cassidy Anderson and Hayden Funk--super cute couple (and recently engaged couple), who are ready to take the world by a storm!

MR: All right…first things first—how did you two meet?

HAYDEN: Well…I met Cassidy through my mother who, at the time, was Cassidy’s boss. Haha…Cassidy felt like she had heard from The Lord that she was supposed to work as my mom’s assistant for a season. Until then, I had no idea who she was! We had served on the same ministry teams together but had never even met, which I think is God’s doing. The reason I say that is because we were meant to be together, just not at that time or season.

MR: Who noticed who first? What stood out about the other person to you?

CASSIDY: That would be ME! I’ll never forget the first time I noticed Hayden. He was running late to band practice, so he walked by me in a rush and hugged the friend I was talking to along the way. As soon as he walked away, I asked, “WHO is that?” LOL. What stood out to me about him was probably his beautiful face and the fact that he was carrying a guitar.

HAYDEN: Oh my gosh… I’ve heard that story from her a few times and to this day it still makes me laugh. Hahaha…What stood out to me is that, for one, she’s stunningly gorgeous. But also that she has such a pure and golden heart. Seriously, if you spend just a minute or two with her, you instantly adore her because of how sweet and loving she is.

MR: When you were dating, what kind of things did you do to get to know each other? What questions/topics were important to talk about when getting to know each-other?

CASSIDY: Well, I don’t think we’ll ever stop dating ☺ but something that kind of came naturally to us was spending a lot of time with our families, which is so good because we aren’t just gaining each other—we really are each gaining a whole new family!

HAYDEN: When we started dating we went out to dinner A LOT. We were able to just spend time together that way and just get to know each other better. (Not to mention eating a lot of tasty food) CASSIDY: I think it’s really important to talk about the things you value most, the dreams you have in your heart, and a recurring topic for us is to always talk about what we are learning from the Lord.

MR: How did you know that you’d found “The One”?

HAYDEN: You just know. When God tells you, “That’s the one,” ...there isn’t really a tell tale sign. You just know.

CASSIDY: Yeah, when it’s the right person, the Lord will confirm it a thousand different ways. For me, it was one morning I had spent time reading The Word (and had been praying and asking God to show me if Hayden was my husband) and I read a verse in John where Jesus says, “It is I…” Even though He was talking to His disciples way back then, I knew He was talking to me that day, telling me that He was the One behind this relationship with Hayden.

Christina entered our business meeting with confidence, beauty, style and grit. I didn’t know her story then, but after filming her testimony for an episode of a TV show still in production, it was clear to me that this girl was all about breaking the mold where beauty and fashion are concerned.

Using her victories over eating disorder, along with her painful past,Christina Boudreau has set out to herald new views about what beauty really looks like, and she makes no qualms about it.

CB: What I love most about what I do is that I get to watch God piece back broken hearts with His love on a weekly basis. I talk to a lot of broken people from prostitutes, people with various addictions, people from broken homes, and so much more. In the process of meeting these people, I get to share with them about the hope that I have in Christ, and I get to experience God piece back the brokenness in their life with His love. I do what I do because I have a deep desire to help people and to help spread hope like wildfires in this world.

FM: This month’s issue focuses on love and all-things-February.

What are three things you love most in this world?

CB: The three things I love most in this world are Jesus, my family and spoken word poetry.

FM: You’re an entrepreneur, a model, writer, speaker, minister, motivator...is there anything else I’ve left out?

CB: I am a lover of people, servant and daughter of the King, and spoken word artist.

FM: What you do is pretty amazing—can you share with our readers what drives you to do what you do?

CB: What drives me the most is the desire to tell the world about the God in heaven who died to make me royalty…who died to make me His own...He is my motivation, and being His ambas

FM: What is it you love most about what you do and WHY do you do it?

FM: You are plus-sized model. Excellent! When did you know you wanted to be a model? What are some of the companies you’ve modeled or worked for?

CB: After God radically healed me of eating disorders at the age of 18, I had a desire to help pass laws in the modeling industry…

God had a different plan. He planted a dream in my heart, and in that dream I was breaking the mold of beauty in a world that defined beauty as one’s shape and size. So at the age of 18 I signed my first contract, and currently am internationally signed all over the United States, the UK, South Africa and Germany, working working for top companies like Wet Seal, Charlotte Russe, Mar-

shalls…have walked the runways for LA fashion week, have been in magazines like Plus Model Magazine, San Diego styles wedding magazine and so much more. I see as an honor to do what I do, and to represent the Lord in the fashion industry.

FM: Being a plus-sized model is pretty unique in the world of fashioned and modeling. One of the things that Fashioned is missional about is in the truth that all have been fashioned to uniquely be themselves. It is easy stating and carrying this message in this world called fashion? Have you ever felt the pressure to conform?

CB: Honestly, it’s not easy. Plus-size models are most definitely creating waves in the fashion industry but they don’t carry the same respect as the straight size models do. Carrying the message that I do isn’t an easy task, because while I desire to help spread the message of beauty coming in all shapes and sizes, I am still a part of an industry that doesn’t believe that. A lot of them pat me on the back and give me a “…that is cool that you are spreading that message, but plus-size will never reach high fashion”. The thing is, I don’t promote plus-size or straight size. Plus-size in the industry now is a size 6 and up, and even on a 5’11’’ frame, a size 6 is still very small. What I promote is that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and that both sides of the industry need to put out models who promote health, which means not being overweight and not being underweight, but taking care of the bodies God has given to us, and being the best version of us. I love what you ladies are standing for at Fashioned—I believe this message you have needs to be taken to girls around the world.

my agents. Sometimes people will comment on why my boobs aren’t big enough, they tell me to suck it in, or work on my cellulite. To those things, I just laugh, and remind myself that I can’t be “enough” for every person in this industry. I have learned to just be who God has created me to be, and even though I may not be someone else’s version of beautiful, I am God’s version of beautiful. So basically my game plan in this industry is to keep my eyes on Jesus, and off of the other models and the unrealistic expectations of the clients.

FM: That takes guts, but I love that. Your website, “beautyhasnosize, depicts women who are confident and beautiful in their various colors, shapes and sizes. How did this idea (of your business) come to be?

CB: God has stirred beauty has no size in my heart for years, but I never took the steps to making it happen. It really came out my journey of overcoming eating disorders and becoming plus-size model.

I realized that God has given me a message and a platform to talk about the topics of beauty, body image, eating disorders, self-harm and our worth. So, I decided to create a movement where we talk about these issues—where girls can share their stories and a platform where the Christian and secular world can come to the same place to hear about these truths. Since then, we have been able to take this message into schools, church youth groups and other venues!

FM: That’s our hope and plan! We so believe that, too!

FM: You’ve also penned a book, “I Am Beautiful.” What inspired you to write that book? Tell us about that.

CB: I wrote the story “I Am Beautiful” for my seven-year-old niece. At the time, she was five when I wrote the story for her. Her name is Orrora, and growing up we would call her Princess Orrora, and whenever anyone would ask her what her name is she would confidently say, “My name is Princess Orrora.” She is the most beautiful person I have ever known. One day she told me that her dad told her to lose weight because she was “fat” in his eyes. This sent her down a path of wanting to lose weight at the age of five so that she could be beautiful in her dad’s eyes. Her dad used to be in gangs and is not the best father to begin with, but to a five-year-old little girl, she wanted to do anything to be beautiful in the eyes of her daddy. So all that confidence she previously had, was completely gone because of one comment from her father. This inspired me to write this story for her.

My mom and aunt did the illustrations. She loved the story… I gave it to her on her birthday, and since then I have been able to share that story with many more girls.

FM: What is it that helps you keep your “One True North” in an industry so focused on the external?

CB: What helps me is understanding what my purpose is in that industry and why the Lord has called me to that industry. Understand ing that I am not here to take pretty pictures, look perfect, or please

Whether you want some pad thai or a waffle sandwich, you can find everything under the sun here. It’s been officially stamped a “hipster hangout” but don’t let that deter you from a chill experience.

Pour Vous – Los Angeles, CA | $$-$$$ This lounge is not for the faint of heart. This dim, sexy lounge is one of my favorites. Not your everyday bar, their drinks are complex pieces of art painting itself over your tongue. Although, you may want to head through an In-N-Out drive through before, because there is a lack of sustenance here. With live entertainment on the hour, this is definitely a bucket-list spot.

Gen Korean BBQ – Various Locations | $$ Where can you go wrong with Korean Barbeque? It’s a fun dinner/ lunch spot where you can control what you eat and how you eat it!

Bestia – Los Angeles, CA | $$$ Marked as a recent hotspot for the LA crowd, this Italian-American restaurant is truly a “Treat yo-self” place for you and your girlfriends.

Be sure to make reservations, because it fills up fast here. Leave the house early, because parking can be a bit sparse. But once you indulge yourself with the Spaghetti Rustichella, all the cares of the world will melt away…

Hipcooks – Santa Ana, CA | $$$ Beware; you will definitely declare cooking a hobby after taking a three-hour group class at Hipcooks. With locations from East Los Angeles to the heart of Orange County, classes range from Romantic Dinners, to Healthy, Fresh and Zingy and tap in at about $70 a class. I know, a bit pricey, but TOTALLY worth it. Get your girlfriends together to nibble and chat over your creations.

Now, I would hate to exclude those of us with BAE’s. Need to give some hints to your honey this year for Valentine’s, or just a nice date night? Your search has ended!

The Filling Station – Orange, CA | $$ Nestled in the charming historic Orange Circle, The Filling Station has turned an old gas station into a lovable café/restaurant. Casual café by morning and afternoon, and 4 o’clock brings a lush hue of a comfortable dinner. I’m personally obsessed with the Chicken Marsala, but they have everything from Italian pastas to American favorites. Perfect for a casual dinner with your love.

The Cellar – Fullerton, CA | $$ – $$$ Visit the elegant Villa del Sol for this crown-jewel of Downtown Fullerton. The atmosphere is dark and lush with a wonderful look at romantic craftsmanship.

LOVE SHACK, BABY!

It can be easy to get cabin fever in February, as students round the bend into the middle of the Spring Semester! Rather than packing it up and calling it quits, how about a room do-over so you can love the place you call home, no matter how big or small!

Fashioned Magazine visited Taylor Pike, a Sophomore at Life Pacific College, located in San Dimas, CA. Here is what Taylor shared about her very cute student shack.

My roommate & I wanted to make our room cozy, welcoming, & inviting. We arranged our room so that each piece of furniture would allow for this to be done. When you walk in our room, our desks are against the side walls & our bed is against the front wall which allows for more room in the middle for friends to come in & have room to hang out. I checked Pinterest & made a board titled “Dorm Ideas” which was full of crafty ideas to personalize your space. Also, adding small things like a rug and curtains really made a big difference. I would say it’s really a few small things that add up to make a nice space. The lights! I bought two boxes of white lights from the “outdoor” section at Walmart for $4 a box... That’s only $8 total!

My dorm situation works perfectly for me because it is personalizedfor myself & my roommate. There’s not another one out there like it! Dorm rooms are fun because each year you have a new opportunity to switch things up & personalize your own space. Gather some ideas from Pinterest, your friends and other dorm rooms, making it your own! You can never go wrong by trying something new!

DORM Talk

BY JENNIFER VARGAS One of my favorite elements that Taylor used in her dorm room to glam up her space, are the accent pillows she chose. Taylor went with a velvety look and feel for pillows, topped off with multi faceted “diamond” buttons. I also loved how she brought in contrast by setting a rich dark plum color next to a lavender color, and how she chose a different shape for each. Taylor’s choices in color, texture, and shape, brought in a wink of glamour into her dorm in a very easy, fun, and simple way.

The other decoration, that I absolutely loved, was the way Taylor warmed up her room by stringing cords with lights in a nicely scalloped design, around her space. What a great idea to warm up a dorm, and bring in a sense of wonder! This not only warms up her dorm and creates a sense of wonder, but it also creates an ambiance of rest and relaxation - which is “key” during homework time, and definitely during finals. Way to go Taylor!

Jennifer is an interior designer who loves photography, fashion and mentoring high school girls.

Another way to warm your living quarters, is by hunting out inexpensive bottles and placing some type of fresh greens in them.

When Love sees no way out, hold on... help is on the way!

When I was in high school we talked about abuse in health class. Even then I didn’t think teen violence in relationships was a real problem.

I actually thought it was made up. My friends and I would date girls but had never thought about hurting them. My parents never had any serious verbal or physical fights. Call me ignorant, but from my perspective abuse wasn’t real.

It wasn’t until I was in health class and we had studied abuse for weeks, that my awareness for this this issue grew and my heart began to break for the victims of relationship abuse. I started researching statistics, noticing unhealthy relationships that may involve abuse, and going to concerts that promoted violence awareness. My eyes were now open. But in my own personal life and in my friendships, abuse still didn’t seem to be in the picture.

A few years later I was working at a summer youth camp and the students were having a time of confession where they would talk about conflicts in their life that were holding them back from feeling a sense of fulfillment or love. All of the students were split up into their cabins, so guys and girls were separated. I was obviously with the guys and they were talking about all the junk in their lives. There was some serious stuff shared, such as dealing with lust, family pressures, bullying, and so on. On the other side of the camp, a girl shared with her peers and leaders about being abused by her boyfriend, who was also at the camp. Guess whose cabin he was in? Mine. This was the first time I had actually interacted with a couple that involved abuse, and involved leadership to step in and handle the situation with care.

I couldn’t imagine the courage it must have taken the girl to come out and share what was going on in her life--the embarrassment, the shame, the guilt of not telling someone sooner, the fear of what might happen next. Everything was handled carefully, effectively, and in order. If she hadn’t said anything she might still be in that abusive relationship being hit or yelled at for no reason, covering up her broken heart with a smile. Thankfully she stepped forward in a safe place, where she could be set free from abuse.

I’m no expert on the subject, but I can tell you this, if you are in a situation where you are being abused, it’s never too late to get out. Sometimes the warning signs are there before you even get too deeply committed. If that’s you, your worth and value is so much more than the love you think you might be missing out on, which really isn’t the kind of love you are after if it’s leaving you wounded, hurt or scarred.

If it’s you or someone you know, is there someone you can trust to tell--maybe your parents, a sibling, your best friend, a church leader or mentor? You can walk in freedom from the hurt you carry everyday by simply bringing the darkest secret of your life into the light. No one in the world should have to go through abuse of any kind. You are worth far more than that. Let who you are and your beauty be appreciated in a healthy way from someone who truly loves you. You may feel hopeless, but take it from this guy--hope is out there and is available for you. Help is also out there. Reach out to a local abuse shelter. They’re trained and skilled in helping out hundreds, who have found themselves trapped in abuse.

I understand this process is scary and puts you in a vulnerable place, so it is important to have something to hold onto--something that brings hope and promise. I remember seeing that same girl at camp crying in desperation, and then later saw her rejoicing because she found love through Jesus. Psalm 9:9 says, “The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you”(ESV). God sees your beauty and He loves you. I urge you to hold onto God’s love as you go through this process. He will never hurt or abandon you. In Him you will find peace and comfort. Hold onto hope. I now know that abuse and relationship violence does exist. I also know that walking away to be treated with genuine love and honor is what you deserve. Hold onto the hope that there is a better world for you. Look to those who can lead you to that safe place so that you can walk in freedom. Who am I? A guy who cares about you not being hurt another day of your life.

Leap of Faith by

Happy New Year 2016!!!! I am so excited for this New Year—new goals, new adventures, new endeavors all make for an exciting year! There are so many possibilities when it comes to your makeup routine. It’s a When I hear the phrase, “Leap of Faith,” I think of someone who is extremely brave and bold. A “leaper,” is a fearless human being who has done the impossible and stepped further than imaginable. So when I was asked to write this column, I really didn’t think I was the right person to fill this page with words. Here’s why… I am not an extremely brave soul, my life tends toward what is familiar and in all truth, the unknown is most often overwhelming. I would not consider myself a “leaper”. But from the outside, if you have seen my life unfold, it could look like that, I guess. My family recently moved states, from a smaller town, to Los Angeles, to work for a church in the heart of the city and for me to continue my acting career. If you were peering at my life choices, it could seem like we have taken and accomplished huge leaps and bounds in the faith world. But in all honesty, the truth could not be further from that assumption.

that every choice you make matters. Do not get weary in living a life of faith and trust, in a God, who can truly do the impossible. God takes our little, seemingly insignificant moments, and He creates something miraculously beautiful. And I can truly attest, that one day someone will say, “You have made such a huge leap of faith!” and you will humbly and graciously smile and your heart will whisper, “Wow! I am a leaper.”

I have seen, in my own life that every “leap of faith” from an outside perspective, is simply tiny little baby steps that add up. For example, a drastic move or career change doesn’t happen in one huge bound. So many tiny choices of faith were truly the catalyst that moved my family and I to Los Angeles. In fact, it was years of choices and decisions and obedience to God that stacked one on top of another, to bring us to a new adventure. A “leap of faith”, actually begins with the day-today decisions, where faith must play an integral part. These moments compile and create a lifestyle of living in faith; a faith lifestyle is never made by one moment.

So be encouraged, today you can make a decision that could add up to your next “leap”. Do not despise the small moments and choices, because every one of them is a part of your faith equation. Have hope

NOT JUST ANY LOVE WILL DO

BY KARMEL SAENZ Celebrating 20 years of marriage is a wonderful milestone that happens less often these days. Although I hear people say love is a commitment not some fuzzy feeling you get inside, I see love as a sacrifice. One of the wisest men I’ve ever known said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friend”. As a mom, I’ve laid down my life for my children, setting aside my dreams and desires to stay home and raise them—being home, teaching them, training them up in the way they “should go”; but that’s not the kind of sacrifice I’m talking about. Our children are a part of us, so the sacrifice truly is selfish (I don’t want my children to be raised by other people. I don’t want them to grow up not having the attention they need or desire). I’m talking about loving someone so much that you would die for them. Are you willing to…lay down your life for the ones you love? Stay with them in their darkest hour? Forgive them when they’ve wronged you— even to the point of feeling completely betrayed?

Friends, there is an enemy out there and he’s after the lives of our loved ones and, yes, even our marriages. He is a liar and a thief. He only comes to steal, kill and destroy. I’ve watched him destroy marriages, families and ministries. It breaks my heart to see two people who entered a covenant where two people become one, declaring their love for one another, make a decision to divorce.

The effects of that decision are devastating. Believe me, I am a

child of two divorces, each tragic in their own way, with each person affected feeling the effects for generations. Nothing is without pain. My dear friend, Kathleen Oakley says, “Nothing is so far gone that the hand of the Lord cannot reach. Everything is fixable and repairable in Jesus.”

I had a friend recently ask me, “How do you keep the love alive?” Marriage is a dance. You have your ups and downs, twist and turns, your “whips and naenaes”, twirls and dips, and my personal favorite, leaps and lifts. You fall, you get up. Your partner falls and you stop to help them up. You may miss a beat, but it’s better to stop and miss a beat than to just walk off the stage. “A righteous man falls seven times but gets back up.” I’ve seen women plow over their husbands and I’ve seen ... men leave their wives on the sideline to continue in their work, or even just leave them behind to go after their own dreams, leaving them to fend for themselves. When coming to a crossroads or even the next stage in life, it is most necessary to stop and breathe, getting clear direction together before moving forward to the next step.

Here’s where my story begins.

I begin by saying I am truly blessed by my husband and how he loves me. We haven’t had the easiest marriage and we didn’t necessarily start off on the right foot, like most of our friends. But we did have love...or should I say, passion?!?

We met February 3rd of 1995 and 12 days later on Valentine’s

Day he proposed and I said “YES!” We got married that following Sunday, the 19th. Yes. We met and married in 16 days!

We went to Vegas and eloped-it was passionate and spontaneous! We found Jesus 18 months into our marriage and thank God we did.

Enter lessons on sacrifice. Here is where I learned that He died for me so I would live for Him. Wait! What?! Now I have to give up everything like lying, getting drunk, coveting, using His name in vain...what does that even mean?!? How and where do I even begin? Answer: You just do. One One step at a time, kinda like a dance.

The more you do it, the better you become. You dance with Jesus and you learn so much.

You learn to come to Jesus, to hear His sayings, and you find that you begin to do them. For example, you begin to learn how to love your spouse better. It sure is easier to love in the “…for better, for richer, and in health” part, than in the “for worse, poorer and in sickness”, but we’ve had it all and are stronger for it. Let me add this…now being older and wiser, I wouldn’t recommend getting married so quickly, but it happened and God made it good!

People still ask me why I said yes so quickly. Honestly, he pursued me, making me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. Growing up shy and insecure, it was what I longed for most. Even to this day, he looks at me that way—even in all my ugliness; And he’s never looked at another, the way he

looks at me.

For our 20th year-anniversary he took me to Paris, lavishing me with flowers, candlelight, shopping & buying at Louis Vuitton’s, love letters, the finest Parisian restaurants (Le Pre Catelan was fabulous, but my favorite was Jules Vern—you can’t beat the breathtaking view), a photo shoot with a private photographer (Le Secret de Audrey) with hair, make-up

by James and the works! They made me look and feel gorgeous.

Jesus says for husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church, sacrificing Himself for her. This is how he loves me.

I also know that I am his treasure, and he is mine, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (Matthew 6:21) This is how we keep the love alive: we sacrifice, we put God first, have a vision, pursue one-another, we’re spontaneous, passionate, and forgiving.

Girls, we know what it’s like not to have God, but with Him all things are possible... even a great marriage.

The sacrifice is worth it!

Fashioned ran into an old friend of ours with that hair and couldn’t resist having Elizabeth Escobar of O.C., CA, share her tips for gorgeous hair with the rest of our readers who might want to be the girl...with that hair!

it everyday it would grow triple the volume! Lol. In reality I think my hair was made for the 80’s. I could have totally rocked the Kelly Kapowski look from “Saved by the Bell”! Lastly, once or twice every few months I do a hair mask with coconut oil to soften and repair any hair damage.

FM: What do you love about this style? I love that it’s playful and soft to the touch. Also that it looks effortless even though it did require some effort (but no one has to know lol).

FM: Your hair color is GORGEOUS! What is your natural hair color? What made you go with this color? Did you go get it done? Or was it a doit-yourself? (so we can recommend to other “brown haired-beauties”).

My natural hair color is brown. I’ve had my hair blonde in the past and in past year I had like a caramel ombré. After that I was ready to go back to blonde but still holding on to a hint of my brown roots. I’ve had a great hairstylist who I’ve been going to for all my hair needs for the past six years! Brianna Muñiz from Salon Technique in Downtown Fullerton does an incredible job every single time from style, color to cut.

FM: Does it take long to get your hair to look like this? How long does it take? It takes me about 30-40 mins to get this look. The most I style it this way is about one-two times per week. When I do style it this way I’ll leave it for a day or two which works perfect, because I wash my hair every other day!

FM: What product (s) do you use to get your hair to look like this?

To be honest, believe it or not, I hardly use any products other than shampoo, conditioner and coconut oil every so often. I use TREsemme Shampoo & Conditoner and Trader Joe’s Coconut Oil. My hair is naturally thick and wavy so I use this style to just give my waves direction.

I’ll use coconut oil on the tips and for fly away hairs. FM: Ah-HA! FM: Your “must-have” hair-product that you can’t live without?

It’s funny but my only “must-have” hair-product is Suave Extra-Hold Mousse for days when I just want to let my hair go all natural and have a bit of a “beachy” look.

FM: Your hair is so healthy.What do you do to keep the health in your mane? When it comes to my hair I’ve learned that less is more. I hardly blow dry my hair. Instead I let it air dry to give it a chance to breathe. I wash my hair every other day. Due to my hair being so thick if I washed

(Loving Your Body, Continued from page 7) FM: #Beautyhasnosize. More than loving that hashtag, I love that message. How did you come up with the message? It’s so contrary to what media and society says is beautiful. How do you address individuals who are hung up thinking that beauty is equated to size?

CB: The message really came out of a conversation I was having with the Lord on why the world defined beauty as one’s shape and size, when really beauty is limitless. The name came from my own journey of discovering what beauty really is, and understanding that when you look up the word, “beautiful” in the dictionary, it doesn’t have a number attached to it. Sadly society attaches a number to the word beautiful, when beautiful can’t be defined by the size of your pants, a number on the scale or by the color of our skin. I will often help people see that beauty is limitless by showing them beautiful people who don’t fit the mold of what society says beauty is. Many men often have a narrow perspective on beauty—they believe that girls need to be a certain size, look a certain way…like a Victoria Secret model to be considered beautiful. So in instances like that, I always come from a place of understanding, and I plant seeds to help expand people’s perception of beauty. It’s not an easy task, but I have seen the Lord do amazing things.

FM: Some of the celebs I esteem highly are those like Adele or Mindy Kaling who are comfortable in their own skin. Any words of wisdom or encouragement you can give to someone who isn’t?

CB: I believe the thing that kills our confidence the most, is com paring ourselves to others. When we compare ourselves to others, we become discontent with who God has created us to be, which causes us to try to change ourselves to become more desirable and beautiful in the eyes of society. I dealt with comparing myself to others myself my whole life, and the moment I took my eyes off of God and onto myself and others, was the moment I became miserable. When I chose to keep my eyes on God, allowing what He says about me to become truth, and shine in the skin He created me in, is when I had an amazing confidence that no one could steal from me. To those who could be struggling, just understand this one thing—there is only one of you in the world. No one else has your fingerprint, DNA or gifts. If you choose to be someone else, then you will rob the world of the beauty you can bring to it.

FM: Magazines, media, celebrities and society are influencing young girls in this generation. You have made the decision to also be an influencer, and you are. Who are some of those you have looked up to (female or male) or been influenced by?

CB: Some of the people I have looked up to the most are Christine Caine, Lisa Bevere and Jennifer Strickland. Christine Caine is the founder of the A-21 campaign that helps to rescue people from human trafficking all around the world. Lisa Bevere is a great Bible teacher and author who speaks on a lot of issues that I am passionate about. She has been able to help thousands of women around the world. Jennifer Strickland is a former international model who found Jesus after almost dying as a model. These women define

what beauty is to me because of their love for God and people.

They use their influence to make a positive influence in the world and they spend their time reaching out to broken people.

FM: This month is National Eating Disorder Awareness month. You suffered from eating disorders growing up. How old were you when they began? How did they begin? How and when did they stop?

CB: My self-hatred began at the age of nine, and my anorexia started when I was 12 years old in the 6th grade. It started when I decided to go on a diet to lose weight with my dad. My dad was having health problems, so he needed to lose a few pounds for his heart condition. At the time I began to notice that I was different from the other girls at school. I was larger, curvier, and wasn’t petite and skinny like the rest of them. I noticed that the boys at school liked the skinny and petite girls. I noticed that those girls were popular, could fit into the cute trendy clothes, and seemed to be liked by everyone. My observations led me to believe that skinny was my ticket to happiness, love, and acceptance. So a diet turned into anorexia, which then turned into bulimia by the 8th grade. After ending up in the hospital at the age of 16 because of my eating disorder, I went to Loma Linda Hospital for treatment. I was there for 10 weeks the summer going into my junior year of high school. During this time I was given the tools to recover from my eating disorder, but I didn’t take those tools and apply them to my recovery. At the age of 17 as a senior in high school, I cried out to the Lord and asked Him to heal me. I had barely made it through high school and I wanted to end my life because I didn’t believe that I was going to make it through college. That night God reached down and healed me of seven years of anorexia and bulimia.

Hayden: I know that we’re definitely supposed to be in ministry together. We both feel called to lead worship.

Cassidy: We both want to adopt at least 50 children. Just kidding. It’s fun to see how our dreams mesh together so well. I have a dream to open orphanage-like-churches in several countries, and Hayden feels called to be a kingdom financer. So there you have it. He’s my humanitarian sugar daddy.

MR: How did he propose? Were you surprised?

Cassidy: He proposed through a game of Pictionary on Christmas Eve. A big group of our closest friends and family were all-together. When it was his turn to draw, he drew a diamond ring! I was definitely surprised, although I had a feeling it was going to happen soon because he had been acting a bit unusual that evening. I touched his phone and he threw it across the room. Lol!!

MR: You know, 2016 is a Leap Year. According to Irish legend, a law was passed allowing women to propose marriage to men every Leap Year. Would you have proposed to him?

MR: What qualities did you look for in a spouse that your fiancé has?

Cassidy: Oh no, definitely not. That is the man’s job!

Hayden: Well I’m definitely thankful that she’s as crazy as I am. Like seriously, I’m just able to have so much fun with her! I don’t ever feel like I have to be different around her—I can just be myself and have a good time.

Cassidy: Hmmm. He definitely fits my list to a T. Qualities he has there on there included (having) blue eyes, being a musical genius, and a heart that loves God completely.

MR: What was the last thing you texted your fiancé?

Hayden: The last thing I texted you was… “Hi lovey! Yes I would love to do something with them!” Cassidy: Oh, yeah I was asking if we could do something with my sisters this week. Lol… my last text says “Can’t wait to see you baby boo!”

MR: February 14 is Valentine’s Day! Any special plans?

MR: What is the difference in approaching life on your own as opposed to approaching life as a team?

Cassidy: Life as a single person is such a gift. It is a short season to have very little distractions from pursing Jesus in your free time. Life with Hayden is an absolute joy and gift, as well. I’ve gotten to learn the love of God on a completely new level. Doing life together is so much better because we are able to add our faith together for things and constantly sharpen each other. Plus, hanging out with your best friend all the time is a ton of fun.

MR: What’s on your bucket list to do as a couple?

Hayden: To travel, for one. We want to go to places like Paris, Greece and Rome.

Cassidy: A hot air balloon ride! Catching lobster together and eating it! Creating a memory wall of picture frames in our home. The list is endless!!!

MR: What are some quirks the other person has that you find cute?

Are there any you find not so cute?

Hayden: Cassidy does this cute thing with her hands when she gets excited about something (imitates her), as if she’s doing the “more” sign in sign language. If and whenever I imitate her (which is often), her first reflex is to hit me, playfully of course.

Cassidy: Dino hands, lol! Hayden is seriously the most accurate movie impressionist that I have ever heard. He practically memorizes movies and can quote each character with the exact, perfect voice and accent!

Hayden: As of right now, we are going to kidnap her little sisters so her parents can have the night off!

MR: What is one piece of advice you’ve received from your parents or a married couple that you found helpful? Any advice you want to pass on?

Hayden: Enjoy every moment. Love her unconditionally. If conflict arises, tackle it together—and as soon as possible so it doesn’t just sit there. And… if she starts a tickle fight, let her win (but don’t let her know that you’re letting her win)!

Cassidy: Something that my pastor shared from the Word that has always stuck with me is that “Love Never Fails.” No matter what the situation, or how the other person is acting, my job is to love. Also, if you’ve ever heard “A couple that prays together stays together”… it’s true! And… don’t underestimate the power of laughter. It really is like medicine to any situation.

(Loving Your Body, Continued from Page 20) CB: I believe that it’s very important to help people become aware of eating disorders. Many women don’t wake up one day and say “Hey! I want to have an eating disorder.” Sadly, many girls develop eating disorders out of excessive dieting. The diets that the media promotes today promote disordered eating, which then leads into anorexia or some kind of eating disorder activity. Because we live in a Hollywood celebrity-obsessed-culture, society doesn’t realize that they have been deceived and lied to. They see the diets and crazy exercise plans as normal. When in actuality if you were to ask doctors or nutritionists about what they think about the diets the media promotes, they will tell you that those diets are unhealthy and will eventually have negative long term effects on one’s body.

FM: Now that you enjoy eating, what food can you eat anytime, any way on any day?

CB: I love all kinds of food, but the food I can eat at any time is Golden Spoon’s frozen yogurt. It’s my favorite thing in the whole world!

FM: Girl, you rock fashion! Name your top three places to shop. Why do you shop there?

CB: My top three places are City Chic, H&M and Forever 21. City Chic is an Australian plus-size designer, and they have the most amazing pants that fit my shape. I love H&M because they have clean, strong trendy pieces that you can dress up or dress down. And of course, I love Forever 21. You can find just about any style of clothing there, and I like shopping there and experimenting with the fashion trends that I find in their stores. I believe that fashion is a form of self-expression, and we should try to step outside of the box and allow our creativity to be expressed through our clothing. My favorite brand of jeans are from City Chic…I have such a hard time shopping for jeans for my shape, because I have a small waist and big hips and a big butt. So the jeans from City Chic, fit over my backside, and fit perfectly around my waist!

FM: A band (or two) or top five songs that takes the gray away?

CB: My favorite band of all time is Skillet. Their lyrics and songs get me pumped up, and almost like I want to go to battle or something.

FM: Fashion “must-haves” you can’t live without?

FM: A time in your life when your world was so dark, you saw no way out? What did you do to get out of there?

CB: I remember in 2012 when I was struggling with cutting, depression and suicide. I had tried to kill myself many times and I didn’t see the purpose to my life and I didn’t believe my life had any meaning. I remember sitting at the beach, and hearing the sound of the waves.

To me the ocean always represented God’s heart, and I knew that if I were to kill myself I would never be able to listen to the sound of His heart again. So that day, God’s heart in my life (the ocean) saved my life. God showed me His beauty through His creation, and I understood that no matter what I had to walk through in this life, it was worth it because I had Him by my side.

FM: You are quoted saying, “You will never be more beautiful than when you are free...”. What would you say to young women struggling with self-image and identity?

CB: I would say that confidence and freedom are beautiful and extravagant. When you are free, you help set others free. When you are confident, you become attractive to other people. Being insecure and always worrying about what people think about you, leaves you crippled. And at the end of the day, who really cares about what people think? We spend so much time trying to please people that really don’t even matter at the end of the day. Learning how to see ourselves as beautiful and perfect starts with seeing ourselves through God’s eyes, learning how to silence the lies from the world, and magnifying the truth about what God says about us in our lives. I understand that we live in a world that doesn’t see the beauty in different body types and sizes, but you can be the one to shine in your skin and be that change in your community and school. You can be the one to help promote beauty diversity by being confident in your own beauty. Dare to be edgy, dare to be confident, dare to be YOU, and watch the world around you change. Thank you so much, Fashioned Magazine. It has been such an honor to share my heart with all of you, to share my story, and to be apart of this issue. I love you all, and am so thankful for the message you are spreading.

CB: I would say 1. You are beautiful just as you are; 2. Don’t change your beauty to be noticed or liked by a guy, because the right guy will come along one day who will see you as perfect just as God sees you—as perfect; 3. Freedom is more beautiful then insecurity. Don’t be so caught up in looking perfect that you lose the beauty of who you were born to be. Freedom is beauty.

Assemble the food. If you can bake a fresh batch of scones and make your own tea sandwiches, do it; but if you don’t have the time, buy them. Tea is making a come back and most bakeries in your specialty supermarkets will carry scones. You don’t have to have scones to have a good teatime; cupcakes, a delicious pie (especially a small one) or your favorite dessert will also be delicious! Have something savory like the traditional cucumber tea sandwich or check the hors d’oeuvres section in you local supermarket. Finally, get some fresh fruits and chocolates and you are set!

By Susana Szarko This Valentine’s Day give the gift of the magic with the ceremony of tea. Tea brings people together in a very intimate and tranquil man ner. A proper cup of tea tells you, “Slow down, sit down, calmly bring the cup to your lips, and enjoy the tea nectar as you sip your troubles away.” What is more appropriate then, than to give your loved one the pleasure of serenity and your total attention? Just a few items will ensure that you have a memorable experience and show your sweetheart how much you appreciate the time you have together.

Choose a cozy place for your tea ceremony. Rearrange the furniture to give the space an even more special setting. My daughter and I love when my husband brings the dining table into our living room where we have the fireplace. It is out of the ordinary, it is different than our usual place for a meal, and therefore it is special.

Set the table. Bring out your prettiest tablecloth (or even a cute quilt…be creative) and napkins to set the table with your best china and silverware. Consignment stores and thrift stores are a treasure cove for forgotten teacups and teapots—most of the time at a great bargain. Don’t forget to get some fresh flowers and candles to complete the look, coupled with piano or classical music to help set the peaceful ambiance.

ake the tea. If you do have to watch your funds, this is the area were you should spend your dollars. Get a good tea—preferable a loose-leaf tea. My husband and I order our favorite tea supply from the Internet, but it is not difficult to get a good quality tea from a store near you. Follow the recommended time to steep the tea of your choice. Most teas require from three to five minutes depending on if it is a white, herbal, green or black tea.

Don’t leave it in there much longer than that—it will turn bitter if left too long in hot water. For added “glam”, use sugar cubes. ou do not have to have a “sweetheart” to enjoy a tea party. Make someone else’s Valentine’s Day special by giving the gift of tea to a special friend, your parents, your children, siblings, co-workers (yep! take your tea party to work) or even someone who has lost their companion…the possibilities are endless, but the reward is amazingly delicious. This Valentine’s Day treat your loved ones with a cup of steaming hot tea and the tranquility of teatime!

Candied-Ginger Orange Scones Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

3 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. kosher salt

8 Tbs. (1 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

1/3 cup chopped crystallized ginger

Zest of 1 orange 2 eggs

½ cup cold heavy cream

1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoon of water of milk, for egg wash Preheat an oven to 375ºF In the bowl of an electric mixer, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest and pulse to combine. Add the butter and mix until the butter is the size of peas. Add the crystallized ginger and stir to mix.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and cream until blended and add to the flour mixture.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and press with your hands until the dough comes together. Roll out the dough, flouring as needed, into a 10-inch round about 3/4 inch thick. The secret of tender scones is a minimum of handling. Cut into 8 equal-size wedges or circles and place the scones on a baking pan lined with parchment paper.

Make sure the sides of the scones don’t touch. Bake until the scones are golden, about 20 to 25 minutes.

Mock Devonshire Cream ½ cup heavy cream 2 Tbs. confectioners’ sugar ½ cup sour cream

In a chilled bowl, beat cream until medium-stiff peaks form. Add the sugar during the last minutes. Fold in sour cream and blend.

BY KELSEY LEE HOLLENBECK It is an all-too-common mistake that the outward image, the superficial appearance, is the primary consideration for a person’s value, or qualificationespecially in regards to how we think of ourselves. At some point in time, we’ve all taken notice of a magazine or movie image and in some shape or form, compared ourselves to it, planting the seed that “maybe we just aren’t enough”- and if only we could more closely resemble that image, we would be.

If this rings a bell, or stirs something in your heart, know you are not alone, and this battle is something that millions of others throughout the world truly struggle with; some on such levels that they have contemplated taking their own life. Be encouraged that you are enough, because He who created you made no mistakes.

There are a few things to deeply consider when finding a balance in honoring the One who created you, and the temple you live in.

We are reminded in 1 Samuel 16:7, “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” A particular shape, size, height, color, weight, charisma or overall “look” does not determine the value or capability of any individual; what does determine their value and capability is who God intends for them to be, what He intends for them to

do, and the condition of their heart. If our life revolves around our outward appearance, or judging the outward appearance of others, we so badly miss the boat that we will never feel fulfilled. Each of us have a certain grace on our life, and are called to live victoriously in it for His purpose; we were not created to compare ourselves to one another and run in circles of insecurity, fear, envy or pride- so why is it that the world promotes such a trend?

Because, it is easy to buy into what the world refers to as ‘ideal’, and the revenue brought in by both men and women chasing after that ‘ideal’ drives the financial bottom line of companies throughout the world.

People from all walks of life are being destroyed by the lack of knowledge of what is real and what is not, in terms of physical aesthetics, and the drapery of deception our world’s standard deploy through visual media and advertising. We must realize that we are imperfect people, and chasing after the world’s criteria/s of ‘perfection’ is an endless, unfulfilling, empty pursuit. If we desire genuine health (physically, emotionally and spiritually), the confidence that comes with it, and to live as the very best version of ourselves, first things must be put first- “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” –Matthew 6:33.

Living with genuine resolve to seek first the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33) in all things is truly foundational in being free of the lies that ‘self-image’ is-

sues can entrap us in. It is one thing to be aware of deception, but to be armored from its enchantment requires something greater than ourselves; His name is Jesus Christ.

When we begin to understand who we are in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), we live more intentionally, and take greater consideration into being good stewards of ourselves, and the choices we make in every area of our lives. Unhealthy, unproductive thinking and habits become a thing of the past, and healthy, productive thoughts, behaviors, and refreshed confidence flow through our everyday lifestyle. Being the best you that you can be entails responsible stewardship over what God has given you, and being responsible stewards of our bodies makes living undistracted by what the world tells us we should be less challenging.

The importance of having a healthy and able body goes far beyond feeling confident in our clothes or performing better physically. It allows us to live and operate more efficiently, and effectively, in whatever it is we are designed to do. 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 reminds us that responsible stewardship of our body is vitally important to the Lord, and for the sake of ourselves. 1 Corinthians 6:12 suggests the liberties we have that are not inherently wrong, may also not be advantageous, either: “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” We should

consider that even thoughts and actions, which may not be considered sin, or wrong, can become sin, and become wrong if we allow them to have power over us. An example being taking days of rest, and enjoying foods we love that may not be beneficial to eat consistently, becoming a routine habit, resulting in laziness and gluttony. Another example is someone who intends to incorporate healthy eating and exercise into their daily routine becoming obsessive and driven solely by those activities and the tangible results they produce, rather than being driven by living in a way that honors the Lord. We are once again encouraged to consider the condition of our heart; the intentions of why we do what we do reflect greatly on our relationship with God and our willingness to die to ourselves and live for Him. If we truly live as Matthew 6:33 instructs, we will be able to become the best version of ourselves we can be, and the lie that we aren’t enough, or must meet a worldly criteria to become more, will no longer hold us back.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! hello from fashioned!

This has been our biggest issue yet, and while this month finished so late, i couldn’t do it without saying “hello”...it must be love! with love as this month’s theme, we found it fitting to capture beauty at it’s finest and were stoked when model, christina boudreau, agreed to being february’s cover girl. as beautiful inside as she is out, she represents and symbolizes the truth that beauty is more than skin deep. because she has had victories over peronal struggles with eating disorders, she was a total catch for fashioned! we also wanted to feature love in different stages - new, old and even rough; and so we featured engagements, a beautiful marriage and more, but with february being national teen violence awareness month, how could we not address a topic that is a living nightmare for some? it’s real and some of you are living this out. we know that life isn’t easy & want you to know there are people in your corner, so don’t hide in fear and don’t keep silent. we really are better together. to honor leap year, janae klatt shared about upng her life and moving to l.a in her “leap of faith” article. as for “leap year,” i have three words: Movie, Matthew Goode. this issue is filled with greatness. as thrilled as we are about february’s love issue, we are super excited about march. in fact, this “hello” is placed on the pic of beautiful and talented singer/songwriter alissa griffith, our covergirl for march! so be on the lookout for this nashville spitfire and sensation!
