HELLO from Cyndi !

Spring is here and we couldn't be more thrilled! Not only are the flowers in full bloom, but we have been waiting for the release of our Spring issue for quite some time. Between Fashion Shows and Fashion Week, our hands have been a bit tied, but world ... we are in love and we are here.

Firstly, we cannot tell you how ECSTATIC we are to have beauty, Victoria Hernandez, a dancing machine––whose grace and heart match in size––as our cover girl. Winner of NBC's World of Dance in Season 2 with her dance team, The Lab, this gal is a whole lotta spunk and then some! With a love and appreciation for many-things La La Land, the City of Angels seemed like the perfect backdrop to our dancing queen, who we took note every where we went, was in a beautiful world of her own! If there was music to be had, Victoria didn't miss a beat ... even right on Melrose Ave. Her feet got to moving as photographer, Shawn Hall, stepped up to bat capturing these fun moments of Victoria on camera. We just know you will fall in love with her as quickly as we did.

As we dreamt about spring and fashion, we couldn't help but to incorporate some of what walked the runway, both in Fall '18 and Spring '19, thus producing, Glam on the Farm––where country life meets fashion. A special shout out to Friend of Fashioned, Christy Mireles, for going the extra mile to ensure our shoot was everything it needed to be, from beginning to end. We love you! And to have our newest team member, Chela Williams, slaying our shots with expertise and finesse, while on the prowl for that perfect shot. We are humbled that you said YES to us and welcome you as our new Director of Photography. For these reasons and more, this issue is very special to me.

While some might win a championship by luck, when it comes to a dance competition––namely the "World of Dance," winning requires work.

Hard work. Such is the story of Victoria Hernandez, who was in The Lab––Season Two's World of Dance Champions.

FM: It was a very moving performance. It was beautiful to see the team rallying together through dance ... so powerful. VH: The reason behind our togetherness as a team comes from our love for one-another and for our craft––dance. If one messes up, we all messed VH: In preparation for W.O.D. we practiced 13 up. There is no individual in a team. That is what hours a day. For the first two routines it took two held us together and resulted in our ability to be in sync with one another. That is what community months to practice and perfect, is about––love and support.

FM: Wow! FM: What is the hardest thing you endured to win VH: There were many revisions of the dance, mu- World of Dance? sic, and costumes. For the last three weeks we had only three days to put them together.

the community, too, knows where he came from––no matter how big you get. I also look up to Jackie Lopez––she is the founder of an organization, Versa-Style Dance Company. VH: When we got cut on the third week, it was our first big competition. so leaving it feeling like we weren’t good enough put us in disappointment ... so we came together as a team and our directors helped us and (we) pulled ourselves out of it, prepared harder, ate better, worked smarter. Even though we're kids, we knew we had what it takes to do it. We added five members because we felt we needed something new to spark the audience's interest, but our interest and our own creative process, as well. Bigger tricks, more appealing visuals, bigger formation … it was a blessing to know we could go in with fifteen, rather than with ten. Because we went through that, the five added to the team and made us want to work harder.

FM: What role do your parents play in your life with who you are today?

VH: My parents played everything. When I was 11 they gave me a dance studio to give me training I needed. To assist with knowledge of dancing … they are always teaching me about giving. Giving is the better success in life, staying true to our roots, etc...

FM: What is your favorite memory?

VH: In 2014 I performed at an event called Body Rock. and my parents performed on stage with me, too. My team was called, Mini-otics. How to Stay

Motivated! by Kelsey Lee Hollenbeck

A question I’ve been asked through my health and fitness career more times than I can remember is, “How do you stay motivated (to exercise; in marriage; to eat well, etc.)”?

Knowing my answer to that question is personalized for my life, and should be for any of ours, I don’t give an easy, or even intricate, recipe for getting motivated in the way most people want to hear. Instead, I believe there’s a response that can help anyone create their own lifelong motivation, so-long as they’re willing to dig deep and do the work. The answer is “purpose” and getting rid of the ‘perfect timing’ mentality. So let’s talk about those two things.

someone who says they will start eating better when they have fewer social commitments or when ‘things slow down’ rather than saying they’re going to start now and simply acknowledge that it will be more of a challenge on days there are social, work or family commitments.

Another example being someone saying they will treat their spouse, or someone in their life, better or differently when that person speaks or acts in a way they perceive as ideal, rather than saying they’re going to choose to fight for that relationship and choose to treat them with respect and love instead of spite. And even more commonly, someone who says they don't feel like doing something, like exercising or eating in a way that makes them feel their best. Especially when we’re talking exercise or having discipline to make healthy choices, its crucial to understand that we aren’t always going to feel like it, but we’ll always be glad we did.

Purpose. Having a strong purpose eliminates the desire for ‘perfect’ timing (or you could even say it creates it) and that’s why knowing why you intend to do something is so important. » I’ve been walking about life somewhat despondent and without any specific or clear direction.

Alot of times I feel lonely––even when I'm surrounded by people. Though I do experience moments of happiness, I still feel discouraged and sometimes hopeless. I’ve tried just about everything to fill the emptiness I wake up to every morning. Though I do laugh or appear to be making it, alot of times I feel empty, sad and often, alone. I'm tired of putting on a front.

The end of a year and the beginning of a new one always bring new things. For one, we can all agree that we set new goals and establish new mindsets at the beginning of a new year. And with that sometimes comes the idea and goal of being in an exciting relationship.

However, when Valentine’s Day rolls around, it can be clear that it was more wishful thinking, than a reality. And for some reason, when Spring comes around and we’re still boyfriend-less, while we should be feeling fresh and new, with Spring colors of yellow, orange and pink, nothing can be more daunting than the pressure of finding that new romance knowing that Summer is just around the corner.

It can be at that moment that the end of the year flashes before your very eyes and now you’re thinking about that uncle you only see once a year (and never get a birthday card from), joining you around the dinner table pressing you with questions like, “Who are you dating?”, “Why aren’t you dating?”, “How can a smart and beautiful girl like you not have a boyfriend?” or “Aren’t there any boys at your school?” The questions go on and on and all you want to do is run and hide … under your bed! While you may feel the pressure to be in a relationship for relationship’s sake (thank you, Social Media, for hyping up those Pinterest-worthy relationships), it is so important to keep in mind that taking care of yourself comes first.

When is the last time you said “hello” … to you? If we don’t learn to love ourselves, then how can we love others and be who they need us to be? As women we have gifts already built in us to mentor, teach, guide, love, while at the same time—being strong, fierce and bold. In order to walk out in our identities with true confidence we must also take time for ourselves and know it is completely okay to be happy being by ourselves before we bring anyone else into our lives.

1) Give yourself permission. Do you ever feel like you're being selfish or self-centered when saying “no”? While you might want to deny it, it’s normal to feel selfish when you decide to say “no” or when you create boundaries for yourself. The truth of the matter is, you have to say no, so that you say yes to the bigger picture. Give yourself 100% permission to not feel bad for taking care of your heart, mind, body, and soul. Please! 2) Listen to music that is upbeat and happy. I remember having a rough morning a while back. I had slept late, didn’t have time for breakfast, was late for my 9AM Psychology class and to top it off, it was pouring outside! My day was just not going well and I still had two other classes to get through. While walking to my car I found my fingers typing, “Happy Tunes” into my Spotify and pressing shuffle. The first song that came on was, “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men. Oh the power of music! Just the beat itself made me skip all the way to my car not caring about the pouring rain. By the time I opened the car door, I was filled with so much joy that I repeated the song all the way home! What is it with always wanting to play sad songs when bummed or having a bad day? The solution? Do the opposite––put on something vibrant and fun … it will help almost instantaneously!

3) Buy yourself something nice. Okay, as a college girl I am constantly putting away money from every pay check and trying to save as much as I can. Although, it's financially mature to set aside as much as possible, make sure that you also treat yourself! It’s so healthy and beneficial to give yourself mini rewards after working so hard! So girl, get yourself that coffee with an extra shot or those heels you've been eyeing for quite

some time, and why not buy that cute blouse you’ve already paired those shoes with in your mind?!? If it won’t put you in the red, it’s safe, won’t hurt someone and will put a BIG smile on that beautiful face of yours, do whatever makes your heart do that little jig on the street!

4) Journal your thoughts (or talk it out). In the midst of going to school, getting enough hours at work, volunteering, maintaining a social life, keeping up with mental/physical health and balancing family events, at some point that can cause our minds to want to explode! It’s incredibly important to clear your thoughts in order for you to stay sane and not go crazy. There's so much value in taking time to journal out your thought process and being completely honest with yourself or simply sitting down with a genuine friend who will just listen. Write it out.

Talk it out. Or do both – but just make time to do it.

5) Post-it Note Encouragement. This may sound silly, but when I was in middle school I would write down encouragements on post-it notes and put them all over my bedroom walls.

They would say things like, “Keep moving forward!” and “You are beautiful regardless of what you think” and “Your dreams will come true!” I now put them on my mirrors and even in my car so I can see them every day! Sometimes after being around the same people for a long time, their comments become almost accustomed to what you believe about yourself. Posting these types of notes in various places can remind you of what’s and who’s important … YOU! You are beautiful, brilliant and powerful! The more you tell yourself that, the more you begin to truly believe it! And guess what? You really are.

LAFW with Glaudi

If you've even seen one Glaudi gown designed by Johana Hernandez, you may think that you have died and gone to couture-gown-heaven ... on earth! Held on Thursday, March 7 at St. John Cathedral in Los Angeles, was the wedding of all weddings––The Glaudi Wedding and in all her beauty and shine, Fashioned Magazine was right in the mix of it all.

Our team would be the first to tell you we did miss the New York City noise of New York Fashion Week this year, but our hearts soared high as we partnered in production to assist friend of Fashioned, Designer, Johana Hernandez as both, her models and gowns glided the halls of the historic cathedral at LAFW. In all their array with reflections of light so glorious it could blind even the strongest of eyes, Glaudi gowns made their rounds to all in close proximity with divine beauty fit for royalty. Making a grand entrance to Ave Maria, this show was not only the finale of the shows, it was the stopper of all stoppers, while celebrity-status models beamed on the runway until the last song rang it's chorus.
