a) Cory's Shearwater In the Azores, data used was from simultaneous raft counts carried out at all islands from several points. Raft counts have been carried out since 1996, at five-year intervals, but in line with the sampling coverage the mean number of birds at each point from two different years, 1996 and 2001, was used. At the Berlengas archipelago, data used came from to exhaustive surveys of the breeding population, carried out in 2005 (M Lecoq unpublished data).

b) Little Tern Cory´s Shearwater

Between 2002 and 2007, monitoring of the breeding population of Little Tern (nest counts) was carried out annually and showed a relatively stable breeding population, with an estimated population of 170-334 pairs on the barrier islands of the Ria Formosa (J.A. Ramos unpublished data).

c) Roseate Tern In the Azores, data used was based on direct nest counts at breeding colonies (Neves 2007). Data was from surveys carried out in the most important breeding colonies between 2004 and 2008.
