The Charity League Celebrates 20 Years of Outstanding Agency Support

Movin’ On Up

The Charity League of Atlantic County was organized in 1932.

It consisted of a few area women who donated their time at the Atlantic City Day Nursery. As the times changed, the Charity League decided to financially support the social agencies in which they were volunteering their services. In 1947, the first Christmas Mart was held for this purpose. Baked goods and handmade items were sold at the Mart. The Charity League has become synonymous with beautifully sequined Christmas pins, tree skirts, table runners and stockings. The Charity League is comprised of 50 active members and numerous associate members. The funds raised from the Mart and their activities are distributed to several social agencies in the South Jersey area. Family Service Association is a grateful recipient of funds raised by the Charity League since 1998. On April 25th, at the Family Life Center Open House, the Agency formally recognized the Charity League in celebration of their 20 years of commitment to our mission and the exceptional work that we provide in this program. In total, FSA has received over $165,000 in support.

To better serve the growing needs in Atlantic County, we expanded our Family Life Center program with a larger space at our Egg Harbor Township main office. The new location, which officially opened April 25th, allows us to expand our parenting education and support services for individuals affected by abuse or neglect, along with supervised parent-child visitation and activities. Funding for the program is provided by the New Jersey Department of Children & Families, Division of Child Protection & Permanency and the Charity League of Atlantic County.

Now in its second year, our annual Ladies’ Night Out proved to be a successful and fun event. The February 22nd celebration at the Atlantic City Country Club featured a designer handbag auction and wine tasting presented by Gallo Wines to raise funds for our critical community outreach programs. Guests bid on handbags from well-known brands such as Coach, Michael Kors, Kate Spade and more – all for a good cause!

Spring into Fun at Our Family Success Centers

Spring into some family fun at our two Family Success Centers, Inland in Egg Harbor Township and New Day in Galloway. Each month, they host fun, family-friendly events including group painting, yoga, cooking activities, crocheting, gardening and much more! Teaching Random Acts of Kindness to the Community They may seem like simple acts to some, but giving a compliment or word of appreciation goes a long way.

On February 17th, we did just that with our celebration of the National Random Acts of Kindness Day at New Day Family Success Center. Members of the public learned the art of kindness and how even a small act of kindness can have a large ripple effect and create positive change in the world. Guests also wrote letters of affection to people in their community, including police officers, school teachers, neighbors and others they felt could use a compliment.

Behavioral Health Services Millions of Americans suffer from mental health conditions. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five U.S. adults and teenagers experiences mental illness in a given year. More than two-thirds of youth in juvenile justice systems have at least one mental health condition, with 20% living with a serious mental illness, the advocacy group found.

Inland Family Success Center Open House

Golf Tournament

Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Tickets are $150.
