Chapter Four: Red (Taylor’s Version)
November 12th, 2021. 12:00 AM Red (Taylor’s Version) comes out. The first lyric video I see is “The Lucky One” I was so excited. I clicked “State Of Grace”, trying to stop myself from listening to “All Too Well 10 Minute Version)” first. The whole album was fantastic. I’m gonna break down what Taylor said about each song and my opinions on it. State Of Grace is a song that Taylor wrote at the beginning process of writing the album. She said it helps to define what the rest of the album is about, with one line. “Love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right” Indicating that there are two ways things can go. You can be good to people or, not play fair. Red is a song Taylor wrote halfway through making the album. It changed what this album became for her, hence the fact that it’s the name of the album. This song is about correlating different emotions with different colours. She realized that most of the emotions she felt while writing the songs that she’d written so far, were RED emotions. Treacherous is about taking chances. Taylor wanted to explore the idea that something can be dangerous and enticing, at the same time. It has this big bridge at the end of it and it’s insane. The lyric she points out when talking about this song is “Nothing safe is worth the drive” She says “To me, that says so much about this album because I really do feel that even if something really hurt you, if it made you feel something… it was worth it.” I Knew You Were Trouble is an idea Taylor got abruptly. She writes this song from the point of view of someone who is realizing that they saw red
