9. Tasting Wine
A few days after that, I saw him on the street. I believe it was around January 25th. His smile is not one that anyone could forget. Going back to what I was saying about the warm light. When I met him: the room was warmly lit. The lighting made his face looks very smooth and at the same time; it made his eyes look so matte. I’d say his eyes shined but, they didn’t, at first. They were so smooth and big. His lips looked so beautiful and when he turned his head and gave me a confused look, that’s when they shined. When he’d given me this confused look; he smiled lightly, and turned his head. I kept replaying that smile in my head and couldn’t even fully process that it was really happening. That this was real. I felt so grateful that I’d come to LA. It was a last-minute plan and I even second-guessed it before going. After I saw him, I understood that this was fate, this was destiny. This was all part of the plan and all the bad and boring shit that’s been happening was leading up to this moment. This was what I was hoping for, I just didn’t know it. I realized so much just by seeing his smile. And he still does that all the time, his smiles reassure everything and make me feel so special and hopeful. I can never forget his smile. Like, ever.

Chapter Seven: Golden Girls
The Golden Girls is a classic TV show from the 80s. It is one of my favorite shows ever, if not my favorite. My favorite character is Dorothy, she’s the funniest, most charismatic, and lovable character of all time. Bea Arthur, who plays her, did an amazing job and I’m so heartbroken that she passed around 13 years ago. Of course, I love Rose and Blanche. I also love Dorothy’s mother Sophia. She has got to be my second favorite character. One of the effortlessly funniest on-screen characters ever; I love her. I also love the addition of all the other characters. Dorothy’s daughter, in the first few episodes, Angela and Miles, were all hilarious characters. The whole premise of the show is so unique. It’s about the friendship between three middle-aged women in Miami. It’s about their lives, they also happen to be single, so it follows all of the trials and tribulations of dating people in your 50s. What makes this show so good is the sense of family, you really feel like these three women are your family. The jokes are always funny and are never cringy or forced. I miss the old kind of dialogue style that was around back then. For example, there’s a scene where the women want to know how Rose’s date went and she says she doesn’t want to tell. And Blanche says “Oh shoot, honey that’s half the fun! Most of the boys I dated in college were just for the stories” And Dorothy replies, from across the couch: “You must have more stories than O. Henry” (O Henry is an author) I miss jokes like that, stupid jokes; that aren’t gross. The Golden Girls shows you a different perspective, most shows are about people in their teens, 20s, 30s, or 40s- but rarely are the main characters in their 50s and 60s. The show is always funny, and one of the things that made it very strong was the first episode, it takes place at Blanche’s wedding, at their home.
