FAIRCAPE FOCUS

Where People, Purpose and Progress Meet.

Your Bi-Monthly Look at the Heartbeat of Our Group

In our first edition, we celebrated the heart of Faircape, our people, and the service excellence that makes us who we are. We talked about how showing up, even in small ways, makes a real difference. Whether it’s for our residents, clients, or colleagues, every action matters. That commitment to giving our best is what truly defines us. In this edition, we continue that journey of connection, celebration, and progress. Faircape Focus is your bi-monthly space to pause, catch up on group news, and celebrate the people and stories that makes our community special.

It’s where we celebrate milestones, welcome new colleagues, recognise those who go the extra mile, and share the wins (big and small) that keep us moving forward together.

From inspiring personal achievements to behind-the-scenes glimpses of life at Faircape, this edition gives you a fresh snapshot of the energy and spirit that make our team so vibrant.

Thank you for everything you bring to the group. Your dedication, your energy, and the pride you put into your work make all the difference.

Here’s to another edition filled with stories that celebrate us all.

SPOTLIGHT ON Maintaining Momentum 1.

This time of year can leave us feeling stretched or distracted, so our focus is on resilience and positivity and staying steady, hopeful, and supportive, even under pressure. A simple pause and a breath can shift stress into encouragement for ourselves and others.

Like a succulent thriving in tough conditions, small choices to stay positive help us adapt, grow, and brighten the days of those around us.

DID YOU KNOW?

Even small gestures, like sharing a kind word, celebrating a win, or offering help can lift spirits, ease stress, and strengthen our connections.

Over the next two months, let’s look for these moments, carrying hope and determination into each day, and reminding ourselves that we’re in this together.

PEOPLE & Culture 2.

Culture isn’t just a building, rules, or a mission statement. It’s in the smiles, conversations, teamwork, and small acts of support that connect us each day. It’s the encouragement in tough times, the pride in shared success, and the moments that bring us together.

For over 41 years, Faircape has been nurturing a culture we can be proud of; one that keeps growing with every challenge, new team member, and interaction along the way.

Take a moment to reflect on the culture you want to be part of because every action, word, and choice shapes it. Each act of kindness and effort to connect contributes to the bigger picture, creating a community that reflects our values.

Here, we celebrate just a glimpse of the incredible moments across Faircape, reminding us of the difference we make and inspiring us to keep building a culture we all can be proud of.

We said it in the last edition, and we’re saying it again… showing up matters.

It always matters, and it’s worth celebrating every time it happens.

We’re thrilled to shine a light on a few of our Faircape Champions. These colleagues have gone above and beyond, stepped up when it mattered most, and shown dedication, care, and teamwork that inspires us all.

Your commitment makes a real difference, and we want to say thank you. You remind us every day that effort, kindness, and pride in what we do are what makes Faircape such a special place.

Keep inspiring us, keep showing up, and keep making a difference.

Know someone who deserves to be acknowledged?

We’d love to shine a light on them!

If you’re a Line Manager, you can submit a formal nomination through the recognition process. If you’re a colleague who’s witnessed someone doing great work, whether it’s lending a hand, stepping up, or just consistently showing up with heart, speak to your Line Manager and encourage them to put that person forward. Recognition doesn’t have to be reserved for big achievements. Sometimes it’s the small, consistent actions that make the biggest impact , and they deserve to be celebrated just as much.

Let’s keep lifting each other up, one story at a time.

Someone told us the other day that starting a new job is like opening the first page of a brand-new book. The beginning is filled with anticipation, a little uncertainty, and endless possibility. We often underestimate how much the first chapter, those first few days, can shape the story that follows.

A new joiner’s story is filled with first impressions, questions, and moments of learning. Remember that feeling? They’re there, finding their place, getting to know their team, and discovering how they fit into the bigger picture.

We want every new colleague to feel welcomed and supported from day one. After all, that’s exactly what we hoped for when we started too, right? It’s the small gestures, thoughtful guidance, and shared experiences that turn those early pages into the beginning of a meaningful journey.

Let’s get to know our new colleagues, embrace their fresh ideas, extend patience and understanding, and go the extra mile to help them feel part of the Faircape community from day one.

GROWTH In Motion

Often, when we look back at our experiences in life, it’s not just about the roles we’ve held or the titles we’ve earned. It’s about the moments of learning, the challenges we’ve faced, and the courage it took to step into something new.

Some of our colleagues have recently taken that step, moving into new roles and embracing fresh opportunities. It’s a chance to grow, to stretch themselves, and to make an even bigger impact in the work they do.

We’re proud to celebrate these milestones and the effort, dedication, and resilience that made them possible. Their journeys remind us that growth isn’t just about what you achieve, it’s about the journey, the lessons learned, and the inspiration it gives to everyone around you.

Congratulations to everyone taking on new challenges. Your growth is in motion, and it’s worth celebrating.

If you have a celebration outside of Faircape, tell us! We would like to celebrate with you.

Every month, we see moments of connection and new initiatives across our team that help us create better experiences for everyone.

It’s these small yet meaningful actions that make our workplace not just somewhere we work, but somewhere we grow, thrive, and feel supported.

A WELLNESS DRIVE Because You Matter 3.1

Your well-being matters to all of us, which is why we’re introducing a Wellness Bonus as part of our quarterly bonus. From August 2025, you can earn up to 5% of your monthly salary by taking part in qualifying wellness activities.

Read the bonus policy below:

Bonus Policy

Thriving at work starts with feeling good. Small actions like walking, stretching, or wellness sessions boost energy, mood, and the team. Just complete three activities per quarter, keep proof, and submit with your KPI review on PaySpace. It’s not about being the fastest, but about showing up consistently.

Watch video below:

How to Upload Proof on Payspace

Along with the bonus, we’ve launched the Faircape Wellness Library which is a growing collection of tips, articles, and resources across six dimensions of wellness. These are;

Emotional Wellness

Recognising and managing your emotions

Physical Wellness

Caring for your body, energy, and health

Intellectual Wellness

Staying curious and continuing to learn

Social Wellness

Building meaningful connections

Environmental Wellness

Living in harmony with your surroundings

Occupational Wellness

Finding purpose and fulfilment in your work.

Whether you’re exploring the library for yourself or sharing resources with a colleague, every small step adds up. By making wellness a shared focus, we’re investing in individual health, and investing in our collective spirit.

Let’s embrace this opportunity, celebrate the small wins, and support each other on the journey toward stronger well-being. Because when you thrive, we all do.

A big kudos to our wellness committees at every facility who go the extra mile in promoting movement every week. We see you, and appreciate you.

Physical wellness isn’t about pushing yourself to extremes or achieving perfection, it’s about honouring your body as the incredible vessel that carries you through life. Every step you take, every breath you deepen, every healthy choice you make, no matter how small, is a powerful act of self-respect. Moving your body regularly, nourishing it with wholesome food, and giving it rest when it needs it, creates a foundation of strength and resilience.

Remember, wellness is not a race or a onetime fix but a lifelong commitment to listen to your body’s needs, celebrate progress, and embrace the simple but profound truth that your health is your greatest wealth.

Handling Stress Before It Pops

We recently received some wise words from our very own Social Worker, Juanee Pretorius, that really stuck with us - especially as we notice stress creeping up at certain times of the year.

“Think of yourself like a balloon,” Juanee says. “You can stretch and carry pressure, but only up to a point. If you don’t release some of that pressure, through rest, reflection, or even just taking a breath, you risk popping. Self-care is how we let that air out before it overwhelms us.”

It’s a simple metaphor, but it says so much. Stress isn’t always the enemy. It’s a signal, a message from our body telling us that something needs attention. How we respond makes all the difference. Our natural reactions, fight, flight, or freeze, kick in whether we notice it or not. Sometimes we overextend ourselves, sometimes we shut down, and sometimes we feel completely stuck.

The good news is that small, consistent shifts can help us reset. Even just five minutes of deep breathing, a short walk, or a quiet moment can calm your nervous system and give your mind a reset.

As the year moves on, many of us notice stress increasing, whether it’s deadlines, changes at work, or the usual hustle of daily life. The key is to notice it early, give yourself permission to pause, and ask, what do I need right now?

Because just like a balloon, a little release goes a long way.

STRONGER TOGETHER Building Teams

Not every team clicks all the time, and that’s normal. What matters is choosing to connect, support, and value one another, even when it’s hard.

Across Faircape, teams are finding creative ways to build cohesion, from problem-solving sessions to informal catch-ups. Every effort strengthens relationships and helps us all thrive. Well done to those investing in each other.

We’re challenging your team!

Looking for a way to break up the work week, share laughs, and bond? Try one of these fun activities this month:

• Two Truths and a Lie (work edition): Share two truths and one lie about your work life and let others guess the fake!

• Desert Island Picks: Choose 3 office items to survive on a desert island.

• Build a Story: Create a group story one sentence at a time, slipping in work-related words for laughs.

• Office Scavenger Hunt: Hunt for quirky items or complete tasks around the office and share the results.

Pick one, set a date, and see how creative you can get. Remember, teamwork doesn’t always have to be serious. Some of the best connections happen while laughing together.

VOICES Of Faircape

Remember Grace from our previous issue?

This is her, still saving the day.

Every voice matters at Faircape. Get to know some of our colleagues! Because when we listen to each other, we grow stronger as a community.

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

Biltong - a nice protein snack.

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

I would like to be a talent magnet where every perfect candidate just shows up in your inbox instead of the 400 “professional ninjas” who can’t spell Excel.

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

I was in the middle of a serious interview, trying to keep a straight face, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a cockroach strutting across the floor straight toward me. Panic levels: maximum. Just as I was wondering whether I should run, climb the chair, or faint dramatically… the door burst open. In swooped Gracie the Great, toilet paper rolled in her fist like a weapon! Channeling her inner superhero, she darted across the room, armed with toilet paper and ready for glorious bugsquashing action. The candidate froze, probably thinking we were under some kind of surprise attack. Meanwhile, Gracie went full Avengers Assemble on the poor cockroach, saving the day while I tried to look like this was all perfectly normal HR procedure. Moral of the story: every office needs a Gracie.

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

A good refreshing Lipton Peach Ice tea!

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

The power to influence our environment!

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

There’s been so many to pick a specific one! Everyday at Faircape is an adventure!

Meet Sherae Swart Social Worker | Clé du Cap

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

My go-to comfort snack at work is definitely a cappuccino. Does that count? But if we’re talking actual snacks, I’d say apples. I probably go through four or five a day.

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

I’d love a superpower that instantly types out everything from each session as I’m doing it and automatically uploads it to Healthware! That way, note taking and report writing would be automatically done and I’d have more quality time to spend with my lovely residents. No admin, only good, quality time with residents.

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

One of the most memorable moments was definitely our outing to the Clay Café with my fellow social workers, what an incredible team! Honestly, the teams at Clé du Cap and Noordhoek are just as wonderful. They never fail to make me smile or laugh. I truly adore my colleagues.

Meet Craig Goldman Finance | Claremont

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

Overnight Oats from Kofi (a shop that recently opened downstairs at Claremont).

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

I would love to be able to teleport so I never have to sit in traffic again (quick fix).

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

When we did the scavenger hunt as part of a wellness Thrive Friday session, I laughed the entire time and had so much fun.

Meet Monica Mason

Village Manager | Noordhoek

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

It’s definitely our coffee shop’s chicken strips with sweet chilli sauce. And when 3pm rolls around and I need a coffee boost, my new favourite drink is the cortado.

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

I’d love a pause button for the day, sometimes there just aren’t enough hours to fit everything in, and having a moment to catch up would be wonderful.

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

I’m fortunate to work with great colleagues who make me laugh every day. Over the past five years, I’ve had many memorable moments. Some highlights include our first Art Exhibition last year, our annual Open Gardens, and our markets. I’m very proud of the events we put together at the Manor.

Meet Shayleen Newman

Carer and Housekeeping Manager | North

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

I have a sweet tooth and occasionally I would treat myself to the cake of the day at Bridgewater. Their cheesecake is a winner!

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

I like to get things done, fast, in my personal life and work life. My superpower would be instant task completion. Simply snapping my fingers to get tasks done immediately. If I could have 2 superpowers, the second would be teleportation and instantly being able travel to work and between facilities to save time.

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

Most memorable would be achieving a gold employee recognition certificate for my time at Faircape. It made me feel valued and gave me a sense of accomplishment. To add, the teams I have built, with the most amazing supervisors, have contributed to building lasting memories, filled with joy, laughter and success.

What’s your go-to comfort snack at work?

Coffee , coffee, coffee.

If you could have any superpower to make your workday easier, what would it be?

Talking to animals, then atleast I could finally understand what our cat Ginger at Clé Du Cap is always moaning about haha.

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened to you at Faircape?

One of the funniest moments was when a horse visited Healthcare, decked out in rainbow booties, a matching harness, and a pink custom-made bag for its “pony poop.”

Thanks for taking the time to read this edition of Faircape Focus. This newsletter is a reflection of who we are; a community rooted in purpose, progress, and people.

Have a story, milestone, or idea for the next edition? We’d love to hear from you.

“We can’t always control what happens around us, but we can choose how we show up and respond. There’s real beauty in kindness, and when we stay grounded in our values and compassion, we can turn everyday moments into something lighter and brighter.” - Leandri
