ANNUAL REPORT 2022

A NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Friends,
Five years ago, we set out to significantly expand Fair Tide’s scope and reach This growth was based on a strategic plan with a goal of securing permanent housing for 40 households This was a lofty target for a lean organization, but even more ambitious was the plan to get there Our journey included launching innovative programs and undertaking strategies that were new to Fair Tide We developed unique partnerships, deepened existing collaborations, and used education and advocacy to clear the way for our work. All the while, we remained nimble enough to pivot in the face of challenges, including the pandemic.
As we wrap up the final year of the growth plan, I am incredibly proud to share that our goal is in sight. We secured housing for 31 households, many of them as a result of our partnerships with landlords In addition, we have two deeply affordable housing projects in the pipeline which will provide stability for another 10 12 households. Each one of these families has their own story, but the life changing impact of the permanency and support that Fair Tide provides is universal
While we celebrate our successes, we are also exceptionally mindful of the increasing demand for our work. Rising inflation, the intensifying housing crunch, and persistent stress is creating a swell of households in crisis Fair Tide is poised to utilize the blueprint created over the last five years to expand access to affordable and stable housing The complexity of the need, however, necessitates a bold reimagining of how we collectively support our community members
Fair Tide and Footprints Food Pantry are coming together to offer that bold vision The solution comes in the form of a one stop shop social service hub that provides all citizens with the resources to thrive. The facility, named Mainspring, will provide a new home for Fair Tide, in addition to several agency partners We successfully secured American Rescue Plan Act funding through York County to purchase the project site and will be spending the next year moving this endeavor forward.
None of these notable achievements would be possible without the ongoing encouragement from our community of supporters We invite you to be a part of Fair Tide’s exciting future through making a financial contribution to our work Donations can be made through the enclosed envelope or at www.fairtide.org.
With profound gratitude, Emily Flinkstrom

Gross sales from our Thrift Store accounted for nearly 50% of Fair Tide's revenue last fiscal year! In addition to our local shop, we expanded our customer base through enhancing the store's online presence. Our incredible team of thrift store employees exemplified hard work and superb customer service during this remarkably busy time. Thank you to all our donors and customers for a stellar year of turning donations into housing!

CELEBRATING FIVE YEARS OF GROWTH
Since 2018, Fair Tide has been following a strategic growth plan to expand the scope and reach of our housing programs and services.

31 Households moved into permanent housing
Fair Tide's Landlord Engagement Initiative offers a menu of incentives to landlords who rent to homeless households with rental vouchers. Fair Tide recently received a grant through MaineHousing to support this work, including funding for a position dedicated entirely to landlord outreach. We are undertaking this project in partnership with York Community Service Association with the goal of securing housing for 50 additional households over the course of the next two years.

We are extremely proud to report that our five-year goal to secure housing for 40 households is within reach!
FIVE YEARS OF PROGRESS
Affordable housing development
After several years of laying the groundwork, Fair Tide has two supportive housing projects underway in Kittery. One development will host six-units and is estimated to be completed by early 2024. Fair Tide was one of only three projects in the state to be awarded funds through MaineHousing's HOME-ARP program to cover the costs of this development.
The second project, consisting of four to six-units, will be built on property acquired from the town of Kittery. The anticipated completion date is in late 2025.
Fair Tide continues to explore opportunities for additional housing projects and advocate for policies that facilitate these efforts.

IMPACTING LIVES

Dale is a skilled roofer with a generous soul and an inquisitive mind. He approaches the world with hope and positivity, despite the challenges life has dealt him. These personality traits helped him persevere when financial struggles led him into homelessness. After a brief stay at the shelter, Fair Tide was able to secure a studio apartment for Dale and helped him get his life back onto stable ground. Dale now serves on Fair Tide's board of directors, adding an important perspective to our agency's strategic discussions.

HIKE FOR THE HOMELESS

Celebrating Eight Years
800+ miles walked, 8 Mount Washington summits, $90,000+ raised for Fair Tide
For Charlie Simpson, this year's Hike for the Homeless marked the eighth time he laced up his hiking boots in the name of Fair Tide. In this most recent voyage, Charlie walked solo from Kittery to Pinkham Notch, where he was joined by his daughter, Sara for the trek up Mount Washington. Charlie continues to amaze and inspire.

A TIME OF NEED
Households are currently being hit with historic levels of inflation. For many families already living on the edge, these cost increases force them to choose between paying rent, putting gas in the car, or buying groceries. As budgets are stretched beyond capacity and households are struggling to stay in their homes, Fair Tide's work is more important than ever.
Staggering Inflation
The Impact in York County, Maine
73% of renter households unable to afford median 2 br rental 975 households relied on emergency federal rent relief last fiscal year, many seeking assistance for the first time 137 homeless households are temporarily living in hotels paid for by federal assistance, as of October 2022

A COLLABORATIVE SOLUTION
We are thrilled to announce that Fair Tide is partnering with Footprints Food Pantry to develop a resource hub of social services for the Seacoast This facility, named Mainspring, will offer comprehensive programs and services to address a variety of human needs in one centralized location, making it easier for clients to access holistic support

Mainspring will provide a new home for Fair Tide’s case management and administrative offices, as well as greatly improved space for the Fair Tide Thrift Store Our agency will enjoy the benefits of sharing overhead, resources and ideas with our Mainspring partners And, with equal importance, Mainspring will strengthen our entire community by providing all citizens with the resources to thrive
Fair Tide purchased the project site in April, 2022 utilizing York County's American Rescue Plan Act funds We are now in the midst of a capital campaign to secure the resources necessary to bring this vision to life We invite you to learn more, including how you can support this initiative, by visiting www mainspringcollective org
