A NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dear Friends, The photo on this page is my family, my world outside of Fair Tide. At least that’s how I used to see it. These days, that world has become astonishingly entangled, and any previously distinguishable boundaries between work and family have disappeared. In March, my new reality suddenly became phone calls during car naps, Zoom meetings conducted with a child on my lap, and concentration broken by endless snack requests. It was, and still is, challenging, and is a story echoed by countless families across our nation. Out of these challenges, however, rose a keen awareness of privilege. I have a safe, warm home in which to quarantine and I never once worried about losing my job, or being unable to pay the bills. I am not alone in recognizing good fortune during this pandemic. If there is a bright side to all of this, it is the outpouring of kindness we have seen from people with the ability and desire to help. This generosity is evident in the $27,000 raised for Fair Tide’s COVID Response Fund which was used to help those impacted by the pandemic keep up with their bills. It is on display through the landlords who have come forward to partner with Fair Tide and rent to households most in need. It shines within those who advocated for critical measures to advance affordable housing development in Kittery. It is reflected in Fair Tide’s donors who made our Hike for the Homeless event a recordbreaking success. And, this generosity is exemplified through the continued patronage of our thrift store customers and in-kind donors. Your outpouring of support is THE reason Fair Tide has been able to surpass our expansion goals and provide housing for an unprecedented number of people, all in the face of a pandemic. The need for our work continues to grow, as do the challenges to our forward momentum. The donation envelope enclosed presents an opportunity for you to help clear the path for Fair Tide to assist more of our neighbors in need. Donations can also be made at www.fairtide.org. FAIR TIDE PROVIDES HOUSING... Fair Tide secures housing for clients in the community, in addition to our own five unit house. While our focus is on serving those experiencing homelessness, the issue of affordable housing cuts across many income brackets and impacts the community at large. Fair Tide envisions a world in which everyone has access to safe, affordable and secure housing. But, what does that mean....?

AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES Helping clients secure affordable housing is just one piece of our mission. The long-term support that follows is the reason Fair Tide sees a 96% success rate in keeping people housed. Behind each success is a person, a family and a story worthy of honoring.
Client Spotlights Lisa was working as a waitress when COVID hit. She struggled to make ends meet prior to the pandemic, but with reduced hours, it was impossible to pay rent. She moved her and her daughter into a tent at a nearby campground while she continued to work as many shifts as possible. Thanks to Fair Tide, Lisa and her daughter received a rental voucher, and a warm apartment, just in time for the cold winter months.
Julian and Kate were proud homeowners until a job loss left them unable to afford their mortgage. Despite new employment, they fell too far behind and found themselves, along with their two young children, at the local homeless shelter. This heartbroken family was offered a new lease on life through the generous gift of a Fair Tide donor who offered to cover one year of rent for a family in need. Julian and Kate are now settled into their new home, saving money for their family's future.

Steph found out she was pregnant at the same time she was let go from her job as a direct care provider. With nowhere else to turn, she sought refuge at the emergency shelter until Fair Tide offered her housing through our landlord program. In October, Steph gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and is adjusting to life as a new mom, in their very own apartment.

Key to Success: Landlord Engagement In October, 2019 Fair Tide launched the Landlord Engagement Initiative. This program offers a menu of incentives to landlords who rent to homeless households with rental vouchers. Our successful growth in 2020 can, in part, be attributed to the wonderful landlords who have come forward to open up their rentals to those most in need. THREE YEAR PROGRESS housing for 40 households
Strategy 2: Expand via New Affordable Housing Development The process of developing affordable housing is long, complex, and fraught with obstacles, but that hasn't stopped Fair Tide from making great progress! In the last three years Fair Tide's advocacy, leadership and expertise have resulted in laying critical
groundwork
for affordable housing projects.
Zoning Changes Fair Tide helped draft and pass changes to the town of Kittery's zoning code that allow for, incentivize, and in some cases, mandate affordable housing development.
Affordable Housing Fund With the help of Fair Tide's advocacy, the town of Kittery created an Affordable Housing Fund which will serve as a flexible source of funding used to advance affordable housing objectives.
Vetting potential properties Fair Tide has evaluated numerous properties for potential affordable housing projects. We have our eyes set on two sites: One that could be home to a small, 4-6 unit, deeply affordable project; and one that is well suited for a larger, 40 unit, workforce housing project.

Our annual Spring Dinner was on track to be another wonderful evening of food, drinks and fundraising...until the pandemic halted our plans. Thanks to the generosity of our would-be guests and sponsors, we still raised over $13,000 which went a long way in helping us to continue serving our community during this crisis. HIKE FOR THE HOMELESS The pandemic was no match for this year's Hike for the Homeless! Fair Tide's community stepped up in a major way, expanding the event and bringing in a record-breaking $27k. Six teams joined our veteran hikers, Charlie and Mac, to embark on adventures in the name of Fair Tide.
FAIR TIDE THRIFT STORE After a four month closure, the Fair Tide thrift store re-opened in July with new safety protocols and procedures. We are gladly accepting donations of gently used items, by appointment, and have been able to keep the store stocked with incredible treasures! We've also revamped our online shopping options so customers can fulfill their thrifting desires from the comfort of their homes.
The Fair Tide thrift store remains a critical source of funding for our housing programs. THANK YOU to all our customers and donors for your ongoing support!
