We are excited to kick off our Spring Semester Afterschool Activities Program, offering students a vibrant range of opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun beyond the classroom! From creative arts to sports and life skills, there is something for everyone to explore. We cannot wait to see our students engage, learn, and make lasting memories this spring!

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Our Extension Education Department is dedicated to providing the DIS community with services that include:

- Afterschool Activities for students on both campuses

- Tutoring Services for students on both campuses

- Mini camps for our primary school students

- Summer Enrichment Camp (open to all students ages 3 to 17 and DIS 2 year-olds)

- Language classes for adults (open to all)

The Spring Semester of our After School Activities Program is both a continuation of the Fall Semester and an opportunity to introduce new activities for the benefit of our students. The program will start on January 21 to end on May 23. Makeup week will be May 26 through May 30.

Enrollment will open on January 1st and will be processed through your BBTM Smart Tuition account. As you scroll down the list of activities in your account, you will notice that only those activities that are still available will show. Classes that are full will not show

The costs for each activity are detailed in the schedules that you will find in this catalog.

For regular Aftercare for Elementary grades GS-CM1/K-4th or for upper campus students traveling to Churchill, the cost is $10/per hour, with no proration. Since the service ends at 6pm, there will be additional charges for any after 6pm pickup.

All activities are subject to change depending on enrollment.

Waterview students have the possibility of signing up for Circus. However, this activity will be conducted at the Churchill campus.

A shuttle service will be available to transfer the enrolled students from the Waterview campus to the Churchill campus. Parents will have to pick-up their children at Churchill at the end of the activity.

CHURCHILL CAMPUS PROGRAM

FOR MATERNELLE STUDENTS

Our after-school program for Maternelle students is a package program of activities and childcare. Every student in grade PS and MS/EC3 and EC4 will have a different activity from 3:00-4:00 pm each day. The students enrolled in this program can stay in childcare until 6pm without additional cost. The cost of the program is $130 per week when signed up for this option, or $30 per day for drop-in.

Parents who choose to do so will be able to enroll their child in regular afterschool care by sending an email to cwafterschool@dallasinternationalschool.org.

Mon DIMA Music In this class, children will focus on exploration and creativity through music. They will learn to interpret emotions evoked by listening to short musical pieces, engage in musical games, practice reading music, sing, and play lullabies with bells. Throughout, they will work on concentration, rhythm, and motor and reasoning skills all while having fun!

Mon Art Art classes allow kids a rich learning experience while having fun. Students’ progress through the elements of art such as line, color, shape to create masterpieces and encourage their creativity. They will use a wide range of quality art materials. They will develop fine motor skills, language, cognitive skills, and the ability to listen and follow directions. The children will convey ideas, express emotion, use their senses, explore colors, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences. The classes are conducted in English & French.

This class will promote physical learning through play and movement and promote health and physical fitness. This class is taught in Spanish so students can learn vocabulary related to the activity.

Wed STEAM Our STEAM Labs are crafted to inspire young scientists, encouraging them to use their creativity to explore, design, and apply their new knowledge on the day’s topic. Thurs Motricity This class is designed to nurture children's natural movement patterns such as crawling, walking, jumping, climbing, lifting, carrying, throwing, catching, balancing, and running. While having fun, children will also build self-confidence, agility, and a strong foundation in efficient movement patterns that support physical activities like soccer, football, tennis, gymnastics, and martial arts. Additionally, practicing these natural movements enhances brain development by reinforcing sensory perception, proprioception, intellectual awareness, and reflexes. Classes will be conducted in French, providing an opportunity for students to also develop their language skills.

Students will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra through games, and instruction. Activities will include an instrument-building workshop and an instrument petting zoo. Parents will be invited to a final performance from our Silly Symphony where students will perform using their own creations or a real instrument.

Focus is on movement, coordination, feeling the rhythm, and creative improvisation to music. The children will develop poise, plasticity, flexibility, and grace. The curriculum includes warm-up, steps, dance elements, recognizing rhythm patterns, developing an ability to move to music, and rhythmic dance. Parents are encouraged to attend each semester’s parent demonstration day the final week of class.

This is a great opportunity for our new athletes to try something new, or take their skills to the next level, all while gearing up to join our competitive teams.

Sportsmanship, teamwork and self-confidence are some of the skills our athletes will acquire while playing games in a positive and fun learning environment.

Children will divide their time between solo lessons on their respective instruments and learning music theory and music history. They will prepare a memorized repertoire and get to perform. Lessons are scheduled directly with DIMA.

Students will have access to beautiful recitals, fun festivals, and concerts, while developing their selfesteem and building confidence. Children are taught easy lullabies, memorization techniques, reading skills, and lively rhythms to aid their learning. Soon, your children will be performing well-known melodies for all the family to enjoy. The most important thing is to make expressive, beautiful music, while having fun learning a new instrument!

Students explore the different mediums as well as exposure to art history and its influences. With a focus on pottery, students will experience working with their hands and creating works of art with clay and other material. There will be several final products for special days.

Come join in the fun and learn how to get started playing chess. Your TCC Chess Coach is excited to spend the semester teaching you how to set up the chess board, how the pieces move, how to capture, chess notation, check, checkmate, castling and the ABC’s to starting a game. The class will also include fun facts about chess history and current events. Of course, there will be plenty of activities and playing!

Each child will learn at their own pace, with activities tailored to their individual skill levels. Our program includes foundational modern and jazz techniques, hiphop moves, and team-building exercises. Classes will primarily be conducted in French, offering a unique opportunity for students to practice the language in a fun, engaging setting.

Additionally, students will have the chance to perform at the school pep rally (if they are ready), helping to build their confidence and providing experience in presenting to an audience.

Music activities will focus on warm-up exercises, balance, coordination, body and spatial awareness, listening skills, and, above all, having fun!"

Math Fun is a unique after-school club that makes math exciting and interactive! Through hands-on activities, students will explore math concepts in creative ways, working together to solve fun, real-world challenges. From building structures to solving puzzles, each session encourages creativity and teamwork around engaging math themes.

Designed for 3rd and 4th graders, Math Fun meets for one hour per week and offers a variety of activities that adapt to different learning levels, ensuring every student can join in. Whether it is exploring patterns, cracking codes, or creating shapes, Math Fun shows kids how math can be part of the adventure!

This activity involves learning how to cross-stitch on plastic canvas as well as other techniques such as running stitch, popcorn stitch and French knot. The students will start with a simple square design with yarn colors of their choice. As confidence increases, other designs (including hearts, flags, frogs, rainbows, fish, cats etc.) can be completed. Finished projects can be made into magnets, bookmarks, added jump rings to hook onto backpacks etc.

This engaging and fun camp is specially designed for kids who have a passion for creativity and a desire to explore the art of beautiful writing. We will cover the fundamentals of this elegant art form, and learn the skills and techniques needed to create stunning, personalized lettering. Projects will include the creation of beautiful cards for special occasions.

You will also learn how to solder, the basics of electrical components and power while using your hands to build. TUTORING SERVICES

Whether child is struggling in a specific subject or needs help to prepare for an exam, our tutoring services are here to help.

Our tutors are mainly recruited among DIS teachers and provide personalized support tailored to the student’s needs.

Tutoring session are typically scheduled after school on weekdays. The tutoring sessions can be in person or online.

MINI CAMPS

During our school’s seasonal breaks, our elementary school student have the opportunity to attend our mini camps. These are held at our Churchill campus four times a year:

 Fall camp (in October)

 Thanksgiving Camp (three-day camp before the Thanksgiving holiday)

 Winter Camp (in February

 Spring camp (in April)

The activities offered during these camps range from tennis to pottery and from Robotics to cooking. Enrollment for these camps typically opens 3 weeks before the camp’s start date.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT CAMP

Each summer, our two campuses transform into vibrant hubs of energy and creativity, welcoming campers from around the world. Our Churchill campus welcomes students ages 2 (our very own TPS) to 10, while our Waterview campus gives a chance to our students ages 11 to 17 to meet students coming from as far as Japan or Brazil.

During the 6 weeks of camp, our instructors and coaches will use their skills and knowledge to provide our campers with a unique experience that will make them feel invigorated and accomplished by the time they are back to school in the fall.

HOST FAMILIES

Our program also allows families to host international students, ages 12 and up, during their stay with us. Interested families can apply by filling out the host family form.

Enrollment for the Summer Enrichment Camp opens in early February.

WORLD LANGUAGES

Our Language Institute has been dedicated to helping adults learn world languages since 1987. While the offer may vary from time to time, depending on the demand, the language we teach include French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Portuguese and Italian.

Our students have the possibility to choose form a number of options:
