Tips

to

Maximize

Your

potential

FOCUS. Know the big picture. Define what it is you really want. This step is vitally important as the ability to achieve goals is dependent on following a clear path. The closer a goal is to your heart, the more precise your actions should be – making it easier to realize your objective. Mapping your course ultimately saves time. The results will come when you disregard insignificant trivialities and when you focus your energies only relevant, essential and weight-bearing issues that are of importance to your destiny. Example: Nancy desires to lose 15 pounds. I recommend a lifestyle change by way of healthy eating habits and daily exercise utilizing the following Ardyss Weight loss Combo AM/PM dietary supplement: Enhances metabolism to burn body fat, helps eliminate accumulated toxins and reduces anxiety, stress and insomnia. Thermogen Plus Tea: Elimination of fat through urine, bowl and sweat. Body Magic: Reshapes your body potentially dropping up to 3 sizes. Be Happy and reachable The process of achieving your goals involves living in the present while still being aware of the bigger picture. Thoughts matter – “For as a man thinks, so is he.” The more accurate your goal is, the clearer your path to attainment. Stylist Tanisa of Stylistix Salon Tulsa, OK, created a partial quick weave on Model Nia. To achieve Nia’s stylish cut with multiple layers and side swoop bang, Stylist Tanisa used the ever popular 27-piece weave to sides and back of head. The top of Nia’s hair is left out to show off her original short hair cut. Model Valarie Collins is the lead singer for Wallstreet Band. Stylist Tanisa created a beautiful short, flipped Mohawk with pin curl swoop bangs with blonde hair pieces added to Valarie’s natural light brown hair.

Dread Care Tips by Lynn Barnes Stylist Lynn Barnes explains that in the beginning it is best to have a professional maintain your dreadlocks until they start to fully lock. Your stylist will show you how to groom and keep them looking neat. Experts agree that locks should not get wet for the first 4-6 weeks, which is the most critical stage of the locking process. During this time the hair needs to mesh together naturally, and any obstruction to this natural meshing, can easily disrupt the locking of the hair.

“Nail Fungus Control”

Nails by Ebony Jackson

Athlete’s foot is skin infection of the foot commonly caused by a fungus called Trichophyton. When the feet or other areas of the body stay moist, warm and irritated, this fungus can thrive and infect the upper layer of the skin. Fungal infections can occur anywhere on the body, including the scalp, trunk, extremities (arms and legs), hands, feet, nails, groin and other areas. Nail Technician, Ebony Jackson, at Nevaeh Oasis Salon located at 5066 South 79th East Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145, (918) 6228222, recommends clients with athlete’s feet get a pedicure treatment at least every four weeks. Upon examination, Ebony determines whether or not the client needs to visit a Podiatrist or if they can treat their condition with over-the-counter medications. Symptoms of athlete’s foot include redness, itching, burning and peeling. Great over-the-counter medications include Vick’s Vapor Rub or Tea Tree Oil (allow 30-60 days for Treatment full affect).

Recommended Products: Teatree Oil is a great choice as it removes the itchy feeling that may occur on the scalp. Hairobics Therapeutic Shampoo, Neutrogena Clean Balance Normalizing Shampoo (Clear) and AVEDA Rosemary Mint Shampoo are essential to maintaining moisture as well as the PH balance of the hair. Stylist Lynn Barnes warns against the use of Shea butter or beeswax as they can lead to buildup and leave behind a sticky film on the hair over time.

the steps necessary to build a successful Salon with her sister, Shelley. Redz Salon is a full-service salon with a laid back family atmosphere consisting of four stylists and one nail technician. The styles at Redz Salon literally vary from stylist to stylist, but her personal style is on the edgy more colorful side. She does a lot of natural styles, cuts and colors.

Natural transition Style Tips by Kenya: It all starts with your lifestyle I recommend texturizing new growth with Sentonics in order to leave some of the wave pattern in the hair to make the transition smoother when going all natural. I take a conservative approach when relaxing hair because I feel hair with some texture better enables it to have both body and bounce. It is best to keep natural hair straight by pressing so the tension from combing will not break the hair at the stress point. Make sure to keep from becoming wet as it will convert back to its natural state. Copyrights © CK Photography/ www.ExpoStyles.com

COMMUNITY OUTREACH “The children are our future”

“DON’T UP!” “Don’t GIVE give Up”

Adversity comes in a variety of shapes,

forms and fashions. The frustration that accompanies many of these circumstances usually comes at the most inconvenient of times, often leaving us perplexed and confused. With or without an invitation, adversity knocks at each of our doors. One moment our lives can mirror a picturesque peaceful waterfront replete with seagulls, blue skies and gentle breezes. However, the next moment we can find ourselves caught smack dab in the middle of a tumultuous storm.

ExpoStyles.com

Storms can overwhelm us. One devastating experience after the other can render us helpless and cause us to wave the flag of complete surrender. This tragedy followed by that distraction on top of failed marriages, unhealthy relationships, wrong career choices, domestic and/or mental abuse, death of a loved one, rebellious children, racism, loneliness, emptiness, religious hypocrisy and betrayal can all appear to be insurmountable. They are, after all, unwelcomed packages of adversity neatly wrapped in constant reminders of our past and completely void of hope for our future.

“WHAT DO I DO WHEN I’M TEMPTED TO GIVE UP?” Speak LIFE! The TRUTH is: 1. YOUR PAST DOES NOT DICTATE YOUR FUTURE “Forgetting (an ongoing process) those things which are behind and reaching (an ongoing process) forth unto those things which are before. I press (constant action) towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:13-14

2. STAY FOCUSED “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at he right hand of the throne of God.” Heb. 12:2; “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matt. 6:33; “If ye, then, be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.” Col. 3:1

3. SURROUND YOURSELF

While those experiences may be factual regarding your life, they do not represent the truth of who you are nor the truth God declared about your life and your destiny. DON’T GIVE UP! You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Life and death are in the power of your tongue, so speak LIFE!

5. SPEAK LIFE “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Prov. 18:21; “Thou are snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.” Prov. 6:2; “For verily I say unto you, whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatever he saith.: Mk 11:23

4. KNOW YOUR SOURCE OF STRENGTH

Whether you are a Stylist, Barber, Salon Client or business owner, be encouraged. Never give up on your dreams. Continue to set and achieve your goals. Everything that now stands in your way will make you stronger if you rely on God.

Tips for hair and skin: “Plenty of water keeps the skin on your body and scalp hydrated. During the course of every day we lose a percentage of the water our bodies hold, so it is important to replenish it. You may have to turn the dryer off and put it on the counter until you get used to applying the technique. The key factor is spraying the hair, then using a blow dryer set to "hot" to act like a curling iron then allowing the hair to cool before removing the brush. Repeat until all the hair is dryed under. If you have a lot of hair try pinning the top layer up and working first on the underneath layer.

Stylist & Salon Branding Salon branding is often the key to building clientele and attracting top stylists. Branding your salon allows you to reach new heights, achieve longevity and imprint your name in the toughest marketplaces. The right mix of publicity, events, marketing programs, editorial work and signature salon styles particular to your salon not only ensures unique branding, but also provides the tools necessary for a successful business. Branding is an essential building block in developing your salon and increasing business.

Storehouse Finacial Group, LLC Here are some basic start-up ideas: Choose your brand identity. Find and build on your signature identity to help introduce your salon as a brand and household name in your region. Establish yourself in the community by participating in local hair and fashion shows, bridal fairs, community outreaches, etc. Consistent association with these various organizations serves to familiarize and popularize your style/fashion footprint identity in the marketplace. Additionally, it will keep your brand as a leading contender with editors and producers when selecting fashion-forward salons and stylists from the region. And, strategic exposure of your staff’s creativity will regularly attract new talent. Generate publicity. Make your salon the “go-to” place for the movers and shakers including, but not limited to magazine and newspaper editors, politicians, celebrities, corporate executives, marketing reps, educators, community reps, influencers and persons of affluence. Extend invitations for them to come to your salon for style and color treatments, blow-outs and cuts. Your ultimate goal is to get them in the door in order to provide them with an exceptional salon experience that showcases your distinctive expertise. Because consumers trust third-party recommendations, articles, reviews and commentaries are invaluable resources when growing your salon. Stylist education. Continuing education for stylists is essential for salon branding. Stylist must be adept in the latest cutting and color techniques as well as proficient masters of the art of editorial styling. Additionally, stylists should read magazines for the most recent runway trends. In vogue stylists produce happy customers who, in turn, are walking testimonials of your salon brand. Clients expect to have good hairstylists, proven products and a salon with a friendly atmosphere. But now, more than ever, clients are making choices about the salon they align with based on the overall perception of quality, trendiness, prestige, expertise and how they feel about your brand. Capitalize on this by producing an experience unparallel to other salons in your area and watch clients pour into your salon, and your brand identity come alive! What is the Difference Between a Dermatologist and a Trichologist?

gist specializes only in alopecia and scalp disorders whereas Dermatologists specialize in the skin of the entire body, which includes some alopecia and scalp disorders. Dermatologists have a doctor’s degree in the specialty of Dermatology. Trichology, however, is paramedical profession that doesn’t require a medical doctor’s degree. A licensed cosmetologist or barber can become one after completing a threeyear study and a dissertation topic. Both Dermatologists and Trichologists evaluate visible signs of the scalp such as erythema (redness), inflammation and infection. They also look for scaly scalp disorders, including psoriasis and eczema as well as alopecia and/or damaged hair follicles. The degree of damage will determine to which specialist a client should be referred. Keep in mind that Dermatologists and Trichologists share a certain amount of territory:

A Trichologist will: Most commonly treat two notable forms of alpecia: (1) “chemical alopecia,” due to over processing from chemical relaxers and hair coloring; and (2) “traction alopecia,” due to excessive tension from ponytails, ponytail attachments and hairweave extensions – most often found in children, cheerleaders and adult women

Look for all the different forms of alopecia (there are over 75) Microscopically analyze the hair bulb and shaft for any damage. Note: if the hair follicles are damaged and scar tissue is confirmed, hair re-growth is impossible. Sometimes the only resolution is a haircut Analyze hair shaft defects (there are 36 types) Evaluate nutritional deficiencies to determine if a mineral analysis is necessary. And, if so, will perform scalp treatments based on the evaluation. Will provide nutritional counseling, and work jointly with other medical professionals to assist in a person’s overall health Both internal and external factors must be considered when assessing alopecia and scalp disorder maladies. Some require prescription medications, and the assistance of a medical doctor. Only a few Dermatologists also have Trichology credentials. A Dermatologist will: Treat scalp infections usually with an oral antibiotic Treat follicular keloids (special scars that lead to an overgrowth of tissue), which are often found in African American men Treat other maladies including acne keliodidis (scalp acne), discoid lupus erythmato

There are over 80 million men and women worldwide who are affected with either a scalp disorder or some form of alopecia (hair loss). This, however, also includes male pattern baldness, so it’s not as horrifying as it sounds. Unfortunately, very few people know that Trichology – the branch of medicine that studies the health of the hair and the scalp – has been developed to heal them. That being said, there is still a great deal of confusion between the differences between a Dermatologist and a Trichologist. sus (a connective tissue disorder of the body that causes discoloration and scar tissue on the scalp), neurodermatitis (an itching in one specific part of the scalp, most common in adults in adults over 40), and moderate to severe forms of inflammation Give steroid injections or write prescriptions (Rogaine, for example) if necessary

The health of your scalp can reflect the health of your body. So, by the time the malady appears on your scalp, some other problem could be present in any other part of your body. Consequently, a Board Certified Trichologist may refer a client to an Internal Medical Doctor, Dentist, Medical Doctor, Endocrinologist, Neurologist, Nutritionist, Optometrist or even a Psychiatrist. In conclusion, you should consult a Board Certified Trichologist if you require an evaluation for alopecia or scalp disorder. The American Academy of Dermatology recognized the field of Trichology, and currently has one board member who is a Doctor of Trichology.

Dr. Linda Amerson, Doctor of Trichology, has over 27 years of experience in solving scalp disorders. She is the owner of LA’s Hair & Scalp Clinic located in Arlington, TX. Please direct all inquiries to 888-265-8854 or at www.hairandscalpessentials.com

Model Lisa Victory is ready for an evening out, with her back sweep pinup updo. Stylist Gerry Grant created an easy to do at home style by hot roller curling Lisa’s hair. Remove rollers, then vent brush hair back while designing a ocean wave on front right side of the head. French twist the back of the hair while using bobby pins to secure your updo.

Model TeRena Colbert is wearing a beautiful updo style that is a Classic formal up sweep with a natural hair side pincurl cluster. If, you are looking to accessories without adding pearls or gems to your hair, this style may suite you. Stylist Chiku’ Griffin, hot curled TeRena’s hair, then created a french side tuck, by leaving the ends of the hair out from the tuck the pincurl cluster was shaped. To complete the style, add a deep wave up sweep with a swoop pincurl bang.

Do’s and Don’ts of Faux Lashes Follow these simple rules in order to achieve flirt-worthy lashes Don’t allow just any Jane Doe to apply your lashes. It is your responsibility to know whether or not your Lash Technician is licensed. Yes, my dear, you have to be a licensed professional to apply lashes. Do your research! Know exactly what kind of lashes you want before you make your appointment, be it Individual Lashes, Strip Lashes or Lash Extensions. Don’t think bigger is better. If your lashes are too long or too thick, you may end up looking like Elsie the Cow or Sassy the Dinosaur! Do know that certain lash lengths and sizes should be selected according to your eye shape. One size does not fit all! Don’t allow your Lash Technician to use BONDING GLUE! OMG! Using the wrong products can not only damage your lashes, but can seriously harm your eyes.

Don’t wait until the day of an important event to have lashes applied – especially, if you have never worn them before. Always inquire at least seven days in advance. This way, if you are not happy or if you have an allergic reaction, you will have time to have them removed or to seek medical treatment, if necessary. Do acknowledge if your eyes are burning or stinging during the application. Stop your Lash Technician immediately. You may either be allergic or the wrong product is being used. Although some adhesives are strong, there is a difference between “fumes” and burning.” Don’t get lashes if you have any type of eye or hair concern. In many cases, clients who have Alopecia, are under going Chemotherapy or who suffer from Trichotillomania (trich) cannot have faux lashes applied unless you’ve had effective treatment or consulted your doctor. Now that you have some practical how-to and know-how tidbits, Lash Out Loud!

Do ask questions.
