The Aphogee Treatment for damaged hair has a wonderful restorative and fixative value for damaged, chemically processed hair. It repairs the hair for up to six weeks and then needs to be repeated. Protein treatments are important when you want to strengthen the hair cuticle, and stop/ prevent split ends, and shedding. Since hair is made up of about 70% keratin protein, giving it a good, protein treatment will help to strengthen it from the inside out. An intense protein treatment like this one is ONLY necessary every 6-8 weeks (as needed), and it will keep the hair shaft strong and prevent breakage before it even starts. Before We Begin: After you’ve tried this once and gotten the initial “scare” out the way... It really becomes quite fun! Watching your hair harden before your eyes, like the helmet of a Warrior Princess, is very cool! * Please note that I find it best to do this without a shirt on and without a towel around the neck.* The reason why it’s best to be shirtless is because, as your hair starts to harden and dry, it sticks to the surface of whatever it is touching. Iif you have a towel around your neck, or a shirt on , the hair may stick to the fabric... And you may unable to remove it without tearing the hair. If you opt to leave your hair down rather than pinned up during the treatment, try not to move your head around too much as it hardens/dries and sticks to your back. While the sensation of that is very annoying, it’s best to leave it be, lest you inadvertently tear/break the strands. Now We’re Ready To Get Stated: 1

Two weeks after a touch-up I use the Aphogee protein treatment. After shampooing, saturate hair with the Aphogee treatment. Do Not comb through. Use your fingers to gently and quickly work it into the hair. Apply heat to the hair, using hooded dryer or a blow dryer with funnel attachment. You should feel your hair harden, like a helmet. Do Not try to comb or manipulate your hair during this time. If your hair is long make certain to concentrate the heat toward the ends, so that can harden as well. Once your hair is hard all over, rinse the treatment out thoroughly. As soon as the water starts to hit it, you should feel the hair start to soften immediately. At this point, you still don’t need to use your fingers/comb to manipulate the hair. The pressure from the water will be sufficient to soften the hair. Follow up with the Aphogee Moisturizing Humuctant. I then apply another moisturizing conditioner, usually a cheap condition ( Suave Milk and Honey or V05) blended with a few heaping spoons of honey and olive oil. I let this to sit in hair for about fifteen minutes before rinsing. Moisturize with a generous amount of the ORS Olive the Cantu Shea Butter: Break Cure & Strengthening Treatment, put into one plait, and bun to air-dry.

Final Notes: An intense protein treatment like this one is only necessary every 6-8 weeks (as needed), and it will keep the hair shaft to become strong and prevent breakage before it even starts. As you can probably tell, your hair is very fragile throughout this enire process. However, just be very cautious and vigilant during this process, and you will see that it is well worth the mess and hassle!! My name is Gwenicia Pettie and I am a Make-up Artist. I’m from Tulsa,OK but currently live in Norman,OK. I graduated in May of 2008 from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts in Human Relations. I’m the oldest of 8 children; my mother also had triplets who are now fourteen years old. I love my family and friends and of course I love my school, but most of all I love make-up. Make-up Artistry is my passion. I fell in love with make-up during my sophomore year of high school. This is when my mother let me start wearing it and I began experimenting with colors and applications. By the time I was a senior I perfected my look and have built on it every since.

have a gift of finding the beauty in any person. I always say, there’s not anyone in this world that I can’t make over. Everyone has something unique about her face; all you have to do is be able to do is draw attention to it. I love to encourage and inspire people, I think that self- love and self- worth are the most important ingredients in the recipe for confidence. That’s why I love enhancing beauty; I enjoy making people feel good about themselves. Eventually I would love to own my own make-up consulting business or work for a major make-up corporation, doing runway or even being the personal make-up artist to the stars. I love performing makeovers; the look a person gets when she sees herself transformed from cute to gorgeous melts my heart. It makes me proud to know that my talent and passion for make-up can make someone feel and look beautiful. It’s not about making ugly people pretty or converting flaws, it’s about helping everyone to let her inner confidence shine through because if one looks good, she feels good and when a person feels good, she does well.

Erika “Cotton” Slade ESEM: Hello Erika. I wanted to start with the oldest of the sisters. Tell me a little about yourself and your background. Erika: Well, I am the oldest of four children; we also have a brother. We grew up at our grandparents church where my father is the Assistant Pastor; my mother plays the piano and we all are musically inclined. I went to school for education and I got married a couple of years ago. I moved to Tennessee and we just moved back to Oklahoma, I am enjoying life right now. ESEM: Where did it all begin for “Sonday” with taking your music to the world? Erika: “I feel like we were trained to be on our own. It started at home with our family, my Mom would get us together and my Dad would play the guitar and we would sing at the house. Whatever organization my Mom was in we would be involved with the choirs; I always felt that we were separate entities and we were destined to be a music group.” ESEM: Tell me your dream for reaching people with the music. Erika: We all have different inspirations and what we excel in ministry. I am also a nanny, I love children and teenagers. Amber is good with people that have disabilities and young women. Krystal is good with the youth. We all can gleam from each other and we would like to branch out into different arena’s within our ministry in life.

Beauty Inspiration Beauty is that perfect Balance of life. God is a God of balance in all things. Balance is a sign of maturity in knowing to go there or not, to wear that garment or not and to hang there or not. Beauty to me is a well balanced lifestyle.

Style I am the tallest out of my sisters and my style is between my sister’s exsictric and classic.

Dove Beauty Moisture Foaming Facial Cleanser contains ¼ moisturizing cream to improve your skin’s moisture level. It combines ultra-mid cleaners with high levels of effective moisturizer, leaving your skin soft and smooth.

Beauty I have very sensitive skin, I am allergic to sunscreen and it is very hard to find things without it, so when I was younger I would break out some where on my body, so I use Dove products.

“Cranial Hair Prosthesis” For those with pattern baldness, Alopecia, Lupus, severe thinning of the hair, your lace front hair unit may be covered by your insurance. Always check with your doctor to find out if it is a medical condition that can be given a diagnosis for hair loss. It never hurts to ask and it could save you money. Most medical providers insurance companies cover from 80% to 100% for the expenses incurred for purchasing your hair replacement system. Some medical health care providers will authorize two or three hair replacements. Ask your health care provider how many they will approve. Also some health care providers will allow hair replacements yearly, but remember; a doctor's prescription must always accompany your claim for a hair replacement. With HMO's and all new provisions some medical health care providers are turning towards, it is a good idea to call your health care provider to see if you need pre-approval from your primary care doctor. Never file an insurance claim for a WIG!. Always call it a "CRANIAL HAIR”. Many, but not all insurance companies attempt efforts to turn down claims for "wigs". They should have no reason to turn down a file for a cranial hair prosthesis or cranial prosthesis when it accompanies medical therapy and your doctor's prescription. Invoices for the replacement must accompany your doctor's prescription. Make copies of all invoices and prescriptions. Save this and send a copy along with your claim file. Notify us about your medical need for alternative hair and we will bill you for a "cranial hair prosthesis" as well. Save your bill. Your emotional well-being is an important part of your medical recovery process. If you encounter resistance from your insurance company, a letter from your doctor, spelling out that he "prescribed" the prosthesis, not for cosmetic reasons, but as part of your recovery program, should suffice. If you are still denied ask for a review by the medical review board. Add to your original claim, some before and after photos and a hand written letter about the emotional necessity for your prosthesis, letters from your employer of why the prosthesis has improved your performance. why the claim was denied if you do not have the insurance, most counties in the US have state social services departments which offer medical assistance for those who meet their financial guidelines. The American Cancer Society will provide free hair replacements and turbans for those without health care. These hair replacements and head wear have been donated by individuals no longer requiring the use of a hair replacement.

“I enjoy designing and creating handbags. I feel that every woman should feel comfortable and confident with everything they wear, including their handbags.”

Myla’s bags was started by Michaela Butler in 2006. Michaela always had a passion for sewing way before she started her company, Myla’s Bags. Michaela started sewing mostly clothing in high school. She enjoyed sewing for herself and family. After high school, she became a busy woman, she became a single mother. During this time, Michaela started to be more creative in ways that she could re-use old clothing and developed new styles for her daughter ( who at the time was very tall and thin for her age). Once her daughter filled out and could wear mainstream clothing, she ventured into making small totes and handbags for herself and her daughter. As more people started to see these creations that Michaela made, they started requesting their own handbags from her. The first store was opened online in 2007 on a small online marketplace community. This was Michaela’s first attempt in seeing if her bags were going to go places. With some help of her family and friends, she started to get some sales. Once she seen that many people were really interested in her handbags, she decided to create a web-site www.mylasbags.com. Krystal “Cotton” Gaulder

ESEM: Hello Krystal, Can you tell me about what you have been up to?

Beauty Inspiration Beauty is completion inner (spirit) and outer (natural). Nothing missing and Nothing broken in who you are in life. A lot of times when we go through things (challenges) in life we grow and can become more beautiful and that is what makes you complete.

Style I am very simple; I am not flashy, I’m easy with my style. I like the classic look; natural, clean.

Beauty The facial products I use are Neutragena skin care products. Neutrogena Healthy Skin® Anti-Wrinkle Intensive SPF 20 begins filling in and smoothing out the look of deep wrinkles in just two weeks. Everyday exposure to the sun's damaging rays can bring on deep wrinkles and fine lines. Now there's help. Smooth Deep Wrinkles with Retinol SA. The patented Sustained Action formula continuously renews the look of skin throughout the day helping smooth even the deepest wrinkles. You'll see noticeably younger-looking skin every day. Meanwhile, Hyaluronic Acid replenishes skin with line-plumping moisture, as patented Helioplex-stabilized sunscreen technology provides superior anti-aging protection.

Krystal: “ I got married two years ago and we live in Muskogee, OK I work at a home health agency at this time. My heart has always been for music, unlike my sisters I didn’t really have a desire to go to college but I tried and attended for a very short time. My focus is to further our music career; I enjoyed the times when we all traveled together and to sing. ESEM: Can you tell me about the connection with SonHo Music productions? Krystal: We connected with SonHo Music through a Competition called Gospel Dream. The creator of Gospel Dream took a liking to us at the auditions. Eric stayed connected to us, even after not winning the competition, to help us start our music career. Eric helped us with the business side of music and with getting us in doors to get us started. ESEM: Now that everyone is closer to each other what are you all going to do with your music? Krystal: We are now seeking God for direction on our music career; following him you can’t go wrong. We have been singing for so long and have traveled all over and we just want to make sure we are doing what God wants us to do and who to work with.

Expostyles July-Sept 2008

After suffering the devastating effects of severe hair loss and damage related to the mishandling of her hair, Eddie Simpson began to research ways to grow her hair healthy and strong. She purchased every product in the beauty supply store that claimed to be a miracle cure for damaged hair, but found that these products did not live up to their claims. Along her journey to healthy hair she discovered priceless information regarding the harmful ingredients contained in hair care products geared towards African Americans; the most effective ways of washing, conditioning and handling African American hair; the most beneficial ingredients for African American hair; and much more. She has complied her 12 years of research and produced the comprehensive guide to growing African American hair to its fullest potential. The guide includes everything one would need in order to grow and maintain healthy hair. The book is extremely informational, entertaining as well as easy to follow and understand. There is a homemade deep conditioning recipes. On the back of the book, her hair growth journey, over a period of 18 months is documented and quite impressive.

The information in the book is found to be invaluable, but it did not solve the problem of finding healthy hair care products at reasonable prices. That lead Eddie to formulate her own natural hair care products. For years she made concoctions at home using the ingredients she found favorable and essential for the health of African American hair. While using these products in conjunction with the information in her book, Eddie consistently saw tremendous improvements of the health of he hair and documented growth to length she was unable to achieve using the products she purchased from beauty supply stores. She then began to make the concoction for family and friends along with providing them with a copy of her book. They too began to reach hair goals never before achieved. IN 2006, Eddie decided to market her natural hair care line along with her guide and has found much success. Her website displays testimony after testimony of accolades and praise for her wonderful products.

While resarching hair and caring for hair became a major part of Eddie’s life she decided she wanted to display her passion in a hot and trendy way, so she designed the Natural Headed Girl line. The line includes shirts, hats and bags that display an African American female with natural hair. The line was created to try and encourage women to see the natural beauty and to be proud of every aspect of the culture, heredity and distinctive physical characteristics of African American females; which was another discovery of Eddie’s journey. In searching for beautiful hair, Eddie found beauty within her that she had neglectfully overlooked for many years. She also noticed that she was not the only woman that failed to realize the strength and beauty of herself and others. The purpose of the web-site www.fabulousblackwoman.com is to uplift and encourage women. Her mission is to make sure that every Black Woman knows how fabulous she is and the she shines so bright that everyone who looks at or even thinks of a black woman recognize her Fabulousness.

Join us Today by stopping by your local book store to purchase “Temptation”. Temptation Click to order via Amazon or Barnes and Noble by Victoria Christopher Murray ISBN: 0446677833 Format: Paperback, 400 pp Pub. Date: September 2001 Publisher: Warner Books, Incorporated This work of Christian fiction has crossed the lines into mainstream fiction selling over 11,000 copies! Reviewed by Linda Dominique Grosvenor Temptation is a refreshing literary effort by first time novelist Victoria Christopher Murray. This book has crossed the line into mainstream fiction, and teaches valuable life-changing lessons. Although this book shows the Christian aspect of dealing with adultery, we can all find ourselves in the characters and are spiritually enlightened along the way. Temptation is a wild ride of envy, betrayal, deceit, and struggle for forgiveness. This book tests the marital bond to the core! Temptation draws you in and leaves you reaching out to help the characters as if they were close friends. Victoria is a creative storyteller as she shows that "friend" is a label one can wear for years, only to be unmasked, uncovered and revealed for who they really are. Temptation does give you a glimpse of true friendship, and how sisters aren't superhero's, just individuals who benefit from the bond we form with our sister friends. This story teaches that even in a perfect marriage doors can be unknowingly left ajar, inviting the ultimate betrayal. Temptation gives you the tools to spot check your own marriage, and seal the cracks around your door! The crafty way this tale is woven together, leaves you not only wondering what happens after the book ends and lives seemingly return to normal, but craving the sequel!

Last Issue Book Review by Lacey Marshall My personal out look, of this book really taught me alot about my soul. this book made me realize that i need to rethink my life's journey. you don’t always have to act a certain why in a situation, she teaches the correct why of thinking when you are in a bad path. when i was reading about all the pain she was going through, it made me realize something about myself, that i haven't work through all my pain. it was a inspirational book for me. it teaches you self understanding after reading this book i realize. it doesn't matter what people think as song as i think I'm beautiful and I'm what God created. she made me realize that the pain is over for me and it is time for me to take over my life again.
