There are plenty of different ways for visitors to play when they choose Western Mass. Springfield Museums is home to five world-class museums, including the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum and the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, all under a single admission. There’s always a new exhibit to visit too! The Basketball Hall of Fame is the world’s one and only shrine to the sport which was discovered right here in Springfield. The Hall has recently completed a $20 million renovation and features state-of-the-art exhibits as well as a new exhibit dedicated to the late basketball legend, Kobe Bryant. Eric Carle (1929–2021) was one of the best-known illustrators of our time. The creator of more than 70 picture books, he combined whimsical stories and exuberant collages that appeal to young readers and adults alike. In 2002, Eric Carle and his wife, Barbara Carle, founded The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst in the middle of an apple orchard.
