WESTERN MASS If you’re looking for a nearby destination with plenty of outdoor activities and socially distanced one-of-a-kind attractions, you’re looking for Western Mass. Western Mass is a dream for outdoor adventure with plenty of hiking, biking, fishing and open space. Choose from three whitewater rafting options with Zoar Outdoor, Crab Apple Whitewater and Berkshire Whitewater. Add in some zip-lining with Zoar or Berkshire East while you’re here. Berkshire East also has a mountain coaster, mountain bike park and aerial adventure course.
A different kind of adventure can be found at Six Flags New England. If you’re looking for thrills, you’ve found them. In fact, you’ve found some of the fastest, tallest, wildest, most gut-wrenching rides in the country — including a few record-breakers. Little adventurers are sure to get excited for music-filled whirlwinds, twisting swings, and mild-sized dips. All of this, plus a whole waterpark full of splashing for the whole family. Pair any of these great outdoor adventures with indoor attractions that you’ll only find in Western Mass. The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum is a whimsical look into the life and art of Springfield native Theodor (Dr. Seuss) Geisel and it sits on a hilltop with four other world class museums dedicated to Springfield history & innovation, science, art and fine arts. There’s also a sculpture garden of Seuss characters on the grounds.

The newly renovated Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is the world’s only basketball shrine and just happens to be located in the birthplace of the sport. James Naismith invented basketball at Springfield College and the Hall salutes him with exhibits inside and outside of the venue. You’ll find interactive exhibits and state-of-the-art technology here. For indoor adventure, look no further than MGM Springfield. MGM Springfield covers three city blocks in the heart of downtown Springfield, Mass. As the world’s first LEED™ Platinum-certified gaming resort, MGM Springfield ignites a cultural and economic renaissance in a historic New England city by seamlessly blending new design with restored historic buildings. The resort offers socially distanced gaming space and inspired dining with beautifully landscaped outdoor space in the heart of Downtown Springfield. There’s so much to see and do in Western Mass that you’ll need a couple days to fully appreciate our special part of Massachusetts! Rest assured, our hotels, restaurants and attractions are following all necessary safety protocols. To see the details, we’ve compiled a list available here and more detailed information about Yankee Candle Village is so much more than a retail

y Six Flags New England SUPERGIRL Sky Flyer is the newest thrill ride at New England’s Thrill Capital! Thrill seekers spin and tilt, all while suspended from the whirling wheel of justice. Riders are raised up by a giant arm, feet dangling, and then launched into a high-speed spin…round and round…higher and higher…head over heels! This ride is located in the DC Super Heroes section of the park.
y Tree House Brewing Company – Tree House will open an expansive, conveniently located facility in Deerfield in 2021 to mirror and improve upon the experience in their original Charlton location. It will be a taproom + On The Fly location, and more. This artisan brewery is wellknown for its rotating roster of craft beers.
y Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame The only shrine to the sport and located in Springfield, the birthplace of basketball, the Basketball Hall of Fame has just reopened after a $20 million top-tobottom renovation. In place of the plaques covering the building’s dome — the centerpiece of the old museum tour — inductees now have their names etched on glass panels in a Hall of Honor. Forty monitors show videos and photos, while four touchscreens allow fans to pick Hall of Famers and go deep on their career.

y Marriott Springfield Downtown The new reimagined and redesigned Marriott Springfield Downtown reopens in late 2021. Overlooking the Connecticut River in Springfield, this hotel places you downtown two blocks from the MassMutual Center and six miles from Six Flags New England. Host an engaging event in the hotel’s 16,364 square feet of flexible event space. Take your VIPs onto their one-of-a-kind hotel’s rooftop oasis and enjoy downtown views while you relax by the firepits. Then end your night at 1636 Restaurant and Bar, sipping one of their signature cocktails. Each room includes complimentary Wi-Fi, a smart TV, a mini-fridge and plush bedding for a restful night’s sleep.
y Adams Donuts Charles and Myra Adams began the Greenfield Adams Donuts tradition 65+ years ago when they started producing donuts in their garage on Conway Street in the 1940s. They first opened Adams Donut Shop in the current Greenfield location in 1956. After a few changes in ownership, the shop was closed down in March 2020 as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. In the fall of 2020, sisters Sidra Baranoski and Sabra Billings purchased Adams and set out with the goal of adding new life to the business while still retaining the magic that has made Adams a local favorite for so many decades.

F R A N K L I N C O U N T Y C U LT U R A L D I S T R I C T S Imagine a place where you can explore a museum, go gallery-hopping, then have lunch at an outdoor café. Perhaps pick up tickets for a show, see local artists at work in their studio lofts, or stop and listen to a local jazz trio. All this in a compact, walkable neighborhood. That’s the idea behind Western Mass Cultural Districts.
Crossroads Cultural District (Greenfield) Do you like journeying off the beaten path and discovering new delights in unexpected places? Visit the Crossroads Cultural District and find something cool and different in every corner; Greenfield proves the adage that great things come in small packages. Come enjoy the completeness of a quirky, small, old-fashioned, full-service New England town that’s enjoying a blossoming of arts, music, history, and culture as more and more artists of all stripes discover this easily-accessible yet hidden Western Mass treasure. Take in a show at the Hawks and Reed Performing Arts Center, attend a lecture at the Greenfield Public Library or an outdoor concert at the Greenfield Energy Park. visitgreenfieldma.com
Shelburne Falls Cultural District
Turners Falls Cultural District The Turners Falls Cultural District is energized by the same assets as in the past two centuriesthe natural beauty of the Connecticut River, preserved 19th century architecture, and creative people who live and work in its downtown. The district, a recipient of Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Creative Community Award, features green parks, casual and fine dining, craft beer tastings, outdoor sculpture, art exhibitions, galleries, and antique shopping along a wide tree-lined street. The remarkable offerings also including a riverside bike path, the Great Falls Discovery Center, the historic 1906 Carnegie Library, unparalleled recreational amenities at Unity Park, and the newly renovated Shea Theater Arts Center, a regional hub of music, dance and theater. turnersfallsriverculture.org
In 2012, the Village of Shelburne Falls was designated as a Cultural District by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and received the Creative Community Award. This rural pairing of two villages - Shelburne and Buckland - on either side of the Deerfield River joined by an historic iron bridge is a delightful surprise. Honored as one of the “100 Best Small Art Towns in America,” the towns are recognized as a nationally desirable cultural destination. Walk across the famous Bridge of Flowers, spend an afternoon gallery hopping, and refuel at one of the many eateries. shelburnefalls.com
