Gloucester was founded in AD97 and some of its ancient Roman heritage can still be seen today. Since then it has grown into a bustling city with a rich historic past.

The focal point of the City has to be the beautiful Cathedral, which is steeped in over a thousand years of history. Its ‘Great East Window’ is one of the finest examples of English medieval stained glass, while its ‘Cloisters’ have been famously featured in the Harry Potter films.

The heart of the City is home to two excellent shopping centres, ‘King’s Walk’ and ‘The Eastgate’ - home to many top name stores.

Places of interest include the Museum of Gloucester offering a diverse range of displays and unique exhibitions. You’ll also find Gloucester Guildhall - a fantastic venue offering music, theatre, cinema, comedy, workshops and more!

A short walk will take you to the famous Docks. The renovated Victorian warehouses served what was once the most inland port in Britain.

Find out about the ‘Days gone by’ at the Museum of Gloucester Found within the city of Gloucester is an internationally important collection of treasures of nearly one million objects. The Museum of Gloucester tells the story of the city’s origins as a Roman settlement and its subsequent development through the Dark Ages and Medieval period to the present day.

This fine Victorian building also has a significant collection of art, including paintings

by Richard Wilson, Thomas Gainsborough, John Atkinson Grimshaw and Thomas Dibdin.

The Archaeology collection includes the world famous Birdlip mirror, impressive Roman tombstones and the Gloucester Tables Set, the oldest complete backgammon set in the world.

An educational and fun day out at the historic Docks for all the family The museum celebrates the role Gloucester Docks and the local canal network had in transporting goods to the industrial Midlands. The bright and engaging galleries showcase the uniqueness of the River Severn and Gloucester & Sharpness Canal.

Daily Boat Trips from 1 April to 27 October at 12.00pm and 1.30pm

Rediscovering the past, reimagining the future.

Not only is Gloucester a great day out with the family, it’s packed with history and even has connections with Disney.

Gloucester Docks was recently used in Disney’s ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ and it’s possible to cruise along the same section of water used in the film.

Daily Boat Trips run from 1 April to the 27 October at 12.00pm and 1.30pm. Queen Boadicea II, one of the Dunkirk Little Ships, will take you on a 45-minute boat trip along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal with running commentary. The boat departs from the quayside at the back of the museum.

Three times as much fun at one venue in Gloucester!

JDR Karting was the first Karting centre in the UK to combine KARTING and LASERTAG under one roof. As a result they are able to offer hours of fun for children aged 4 and over to adults. The main track has a minimum age requirement of 12 years and offers many different sessions tailor-made for individuals, groups and corporate events.

The track features high-speed banking corners and tarmac surface for exhilarating highspeed racing. There is ample viewing available which is free for spectators. Full training and equipment is included.

There’s also a separate junior track for 4 - 11 year olds - great fun for birthday parties.

The Darklight Lasertag arena has been uniquely designed just for the centre and uses the best equipment available. It can accommodate ages from 6 years to adults, with up to 32 players in the arena at any one time.

The Segway Experience master the spaceage Ninebot machines within minutes and try your skills around the track with fun obstacles and more.

Underground adventure and amazing caves to explore!

Explore atmospheric caverns with displays throughout.

The Caves are an important record of iron mining in the Forest of Dean, as well as great fun for the whole family. The Caves were opened to the public 50 years ago, to show the incredible hidden world beneath the Forest of Dean.

Above ground is the ‘Lamproom Café’ serving great coffee, teas, delicious homemade cakes, light meals and snacks.

Clearwell Caves is an allweather attraction with children’s play area, picnic areas and walks. There is also a great gift shop, selling unusual gifts, including ceramics decorated with ochre from the mine.

During the year at Clearwell Caves there are a varied programme of events including seasonal children’s fun and activities, underground theatre and music - which are very inspirational and enchanting.

There are also special deep and semi-deep level caving activities which can be booked throughout the year, especially during the school holidays.

A unique way to explore the countryside Briery Hill is located in a stunning location in Kilcot near Newent, with views to the Malvern hills in the distance.

The site consists of beautiful woodlands and a lake - home to many wild birds, waterfowl fish, and 18 llamas!

This is a unique experience with friendly and experienced staff on hand. Llamas are extremely tranquil animals and are often used as therapy animals due to their calming qualities - when you groom and walk a llama, you tend to smile, feeling calm and relaxed.

New for 2019 - the luxurious Shepherd hut is very much geared to those who want to experience ‘posh camping’!

The extremely comfortable accommodation, complete with ensuite, has a fabulous living area with a wood burning stove, kitchenette, 2 ring hob, fridge and dining area. At night, this transforms into a double bed where you can gaze at the stars through the glass roof.

Outside there is a fabulous pizza oven, a fire pit, chimenea and even a wood fired hot tub!

Pedalabikeaway - Cycling for everyone in the beautiful Forest of Dean Looking for things to do with the kids? The Forest of Dean Family Trail is, quite literally, the perfect place in Gloucestershire for a day out with the family or a gentle cycle with friends. It’s a beautifully tranquil place to spend your spare time. It’s safe too - the 11 mile (17km), traffic-free trail explores the quieter parts of the forest, using old mining railway tracks and forest roads.

There’s lots on offer at Primrose Vale Nestled on the edge of the Cotswold scarp between Cheltenham and Gloucester, Primrose Vale’s speciality is growing super fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables picked daily from their fields.

Famous for its Pick Your Own Fruit there are some fifteen different crops available for picking from late May through to October.

The farm shop is open seven days a week selling fresh fruit and vegetables and other produce from local suppliers.

There’s also a free play area and from April to October the outdoor café opens, serving light refreshments, paninis, scoop ice creams and hot drinks with covered seating in a large marquee.

During the school holidays Primrose Vale organises fun family activities, including the popular Easter and Halloween Trails. October is also the perfect time to pick up your pumpkins and autumn produce.

A great day out in the Cotswolds on Adam’s Farm!

Sitting in the heart of the Cotswolds, Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park has a long-standing reputation for a fun-filled day out. Visitors of all ages can interact closely with the animals, learn about farming – past and present – and soak up the beautiful surroundings in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Get Closer to amazing birds of prey in the Cotswolds Located near Moreton-in-Marsh, there’s a dazzling collection of some of the world’s most beautiful and elegant birds.

From eagles, hawks and vultures, to falcons and enchanting owls, the Centre is full of fascinating sights.

With various demonstrations taking place throughout the day, visitors will gain an insight into the wonderful world of birds of prey while also learning about the importance of their conservation and the work that goes on at the Centre.

Visitors are able to enjoy some hands on experiences and gain a greater knowledge of the ancient art of falconry during some of the special experience days which are held from March to October. The popular Owl Evenings give a special insight into these magnificent creatures at dusk.

Many people who visit the Centre express their wish to help with the upkeep of the birds. By adopting a certain bird of prey you can help with the feeding, housing and any veterinary fees for the following 12 months.

Bambi, birds and beautiful views - a must for families The Bird & Deer Park is situated in a picturesque Cotswold Valley and is famous for its tame fallow deer, which can be hand fed, along with many other of the birds and animals within the park such as the waterfowl, pygmy goats and poultry.

The Reindeer are fed at 11.00 daily and the Kookaburras are flown in the summer months at noon. On arrival, you’ll be greeted by hooting peafowl and a wide range of really amusing poultry. Follies within the park include the lovely Wendy House nestled by the main lake and picnic area and the Castle situated in the tame deer area, which can be enjoyed by all ages.

The carp and golden orfe can be fed in the main lake where you will find a wide variety of waterfowl. Throughout the year there are various events including the well established Winter Wonderland at Christmas with its stunning illuminations and amazing Christmas Grotto, private Children’s parties in Teal the exquisite Gypsy Caravan or the Mad Hatters Marquee along with art exhibitions which change regularly throughout the year.

The splendid Visitor Centre houses a gift shop and café where visitors can enjoy refreshments on the balconies overlooking the Park, outside or inside as weather permits.
