We're proud to be the first tour operator to set a goal of this kind, and it starts with rewilding the Apennines. he wild Italian landscapes in the Apennines are particularly close to our hearts as Italy remains one of our most popular destinations for our walking and cycling holidays. So this year we have partnered with leading biodiversity experts, Rewilding Europe, to help us work towards our Nature Net Positive goal and their aim of making Europe a wilder place.

Our Nature and Carbon Corridors Project aims to help rewild 5,000 hectares of the Italian Apennines, and over the course of five years will capture an estimated 85,000 tonnes of carbon. These corridors will also help to increase the endangered Marsican bear population, and the recovery of the Apennine wolf, wildcat and other wildlife.

We will work with local communities to show how peaceful coexistence with wildlife is possible. We’re supporting Rewilding Europe with their community carbon scheme that supports smallholders and landowners in rewilding their land, while mitigating any loss of agricultural income, so it is mutually beneficial for both nature and the local community.

Through this partnership, we will be rewilding 100 square metres of land for each and every passenger who books a trip with us. This is just a first step in our aim to support biodiversity projects across Europe, by putting Nature First.

THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

CALL OF THE COAST It was while zipping along the east coast train line that Rick and Nancy Adams first glimpsed the beauty of the Northumberland coast.

As experienced travellers, they decided the best way to discover it would be on foot. From the moment they arrived, they were enchanted by its wild nature and rugged shores…

Our route was perfectly planned

The distances varied each day

The length of each day’s walk allowed us to really immerse ourselves in the area and take in the changing landscape. The route began on wide open, almost empty sands with crashing waves under a blue sky. We passed bays with incredible rock formations and then onward to a small estuary. Birdlife popped up like jewels along the way, including wheatears and stonechats!

We chose this trip because it factored in the kind of distances we wanted; between 10-20km a day. Nothing too short! The pacing suited us well. We’d choose spots on clifftops to stop and eat, not because we were pushed for time, but so we could soak in the views and sounds of the sea. Navigation was easy – if the sea is to the right, keep going!

We read our route notes the night before

We’re not big on cities and glaze over when someone starts talking history. Our first day’s walking should have been to Alnwick Castle but, the flexibility of Headwater self-guided meant we could walk down the coast instead.

Several times we rounded a corner to gasp at a swathe of orchids, and some flowers we didn’t recognise. It was such a joy.

Headwater recommended places to go and things to see in each location, from Cresswell to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Each evening, we’d highlight the things that interested us most and planned our adventure that way. One recommendation was the Long Nanny nature reserve, south of Beadnell. We spotted so many raptors and moorland birds on our journey, but watching the tern colony at Long Nanny was mesmerising.

Headwater helped tailor our trip

The hotel at High Newton was perfect, we could sit with a drink in the evening sun on our little balcony, relaxing with views over the hills. Our preferred dates meant that the tide would be wrong when it came to crossing the causeway to Holy Island, so Headwater arranged two nights for us at Bamburgh instead. The team was so friendly and made it easy to make changes – we also chose to upgrade our room so we could look straight out at the castle. Anything we needed, they arranged. We got along so well, we kept them updated with photos of our adventure as we went along.

Go at your own pace Our itineraries allow time to enjoy the moment, to relish the little things that make all the difference. Stop and smell the flowers, dip your feet in the lake, sit down in the meadow or enjoy a freshly-baked treat from the local bakery. There's no great rush – after all, you're on holiday.

Stay on the right track Every one of our routes has been tested by our staff to ensure accuracy – not just the route directions, but the local recommendations along the way too. Many of our routes also offer GPS navigation.

Nothing too difficult Each trip shows an activity level. While it’s not possible to be precise about how easy or difficult a trip will be for you personally, our ratings give a practical idea of what you can expect. See the rating guide on p65.

By yourself, with friends or guided On our self-guided holidays, you’re free to do it your way.

You take the lead, navigate your route, and decide what you want to see, equipped with detailed route directions. We also offer a small selection of guided walking holidays run by experienced local guides who have a wealth of interesting local information they can divulge along the way.

Getting away from it all

We would meet with other walkers when we stopped at an ice cream van or when we opened gates for each other along the way, but other than that we revelled in being away from it all. In Hawick we stayed in an old rectory and the couple running it were just brilliant. Good food, a relaxed atmosphere and miles away from anywhere.

fter a full day exploring on foot, there’s nothing quite like unwinding in a comfortable hotel for the evening. We’ve been researching and sourcing the finest, friendliest and most charming hotels since 1985. Our hotels vary enormously from ‘agriturismo’ properties in Italy to castles in Spain, reflecting the differing tastes and styles of their owners and the region. Many have excellent facilities such as swimming pools, saunas, spas and massage, offering a great way to limber down or relax after a good day’s walk – or even just a good day’s rest!

As food-lovers ourselves, we know how important eating well is to our customers – and who doesn’t love to try local specialities from the menu? To ensure you enjoy the best cuisine a region has to offer, we select hotels whose restaurants showcase local dishes, from fresh pasta you can make yourself at the Agriturismo La Pietriccia in Tuscany to a Michelin star experience at the Relais d’Amelia in Piedmont. Hotel Le Monarque  ITINERARY 01 Arrival in Blois Explore the cobbled streets, arcaded squares and impressive chateau of this pretty riverside town before dinner.

02 Blois/Chambord to Chitenay 22km Transfer to Chambord, the largest Chateau of the Loire Valley. Then walk through the estate’s forest before heading across open countryside via sleepy wine villages to Chitenay. Dinner is included for the next two nights.

03 At Chitenay Relax by the pool, visit the picture postcard Chateau de Cheverny or discover the dainty Chateau de Troussay with its attractive landscaped gardens.

04 Chitenay to Chenonceaux 16km A short transfer takes you to Bourré, then walk alongside the River Cher. You have the chance to visit the Caves des Roches, a vast network of underground caves and tunnels which were formerly limestone mines. You'll also pass La Magnanerie de Bourre, the site of traditional cave dwellings and a silk-worm farm.

Continue to Montrichard, a traditional French town with its own riverside beach before heading along the GR41 to Chenonceaux.

05 At Chenonceaux Marvel at the impressive Chateau de Chenonceau, one of France’s best-known chateaux, with its iconic arches spanning across the river. This fairytale chateau has seen some famous figures from history, notably Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de'Medici rivals for Henry II's affections - and Mary, Queen of Scots. Tours is an easy train ride away.

06 Chenonceaux to Amboise 19km The first part of today’s walk takes you along the beautiful Cher river, a tributary of the Loire. Turn north, continuing your walk through quaint villages and forest before arriving in the bustling, historic market town of Amboise.

WHERE YOU’LL STAY ITINERARY 01 Arrive in Colmar Explore this picturesque town with half-timbered houses, romantic canals, flower-laden windowsills and a labyrinth of cobblestone lanes. Visit the scenic Fishmongers’ Quarter or ‘Little Venice’, the Tanners’ Quarter and the Place de L’Ancienne Douane. Discover plenty of shops and a covered market before you sample the fabulous local cuisine.

02 Colmar to Riquewihr 18km A short transfer will lead you to Turckheim.

Explore the Renaissance church and medieval gate where storks nest. Pass through the fortified town of Kaysersberg, voted prettiest town in France 2017, before reaching Riquewihr, a town so enchanting it's been declared an historic monument in its entirety.

You'll be fascinated by its cobbled alleys, galleried courtyards, fountains and colourful signboards.

Riquewihr is an important wine centre, its two Grand Crus are ‘Sporen’ and ‘Schoenenbourg’.

03 Riquewihr to St Hippolyte 18km Walk through the vineyards to Ribeauville, a medieval village dominated by three chateaux. Then, explore Saint Hippolyte. Famous for its Pinot Noir, you will have plenty of opportunities for wine tastings.

04 At St Hippolyte 14km A day devoted to the amazing Chateau of Haut Koenigsbourg perched on mountain summits offering spectacular panoramic views of the Alsatian countryside towards the Vosges mountains and the Black Forest. Towering 757m above local villages and vineyards, it’s one of France’s most visited castles.

05 St Hippolyte to Itterswiller 19km Transfer to Chateaunois. Discover fascinating local history as you explore the ruins of Ramstein and Ortenbourg castles. Continue through the Bernstein forest before reaching Itterswiller a pretty wine village on the ‘Route des Vins’.

02 Pernes-les-Fontaines to Roussillon 16km We give you a lift to medieval Saint-Saturnin, where you can explore the narrow streets and château ruins, then walk through fragrant lavender fields before descending into Roussillon. You stay at Les Sables d’Ocre for the next two nights.

03 At Roussillon Roussillon is famous for its streaked ochre cliffs and is the starting point of the Ochre Trail. Visit the village of Bonnieux, full of art galleries, cafés and restaurants that are perfect for lunch.

04 Roussillon to Les Imberts 16km Stroll past the Domaine de Tara wine estate, then enjoy views across the Luberon valley as you head north to the hilltop village of Gordes. 02 Orvieto to Bolsena 13km After a short transfer, leave the valley surrounding Orvieto and head through oak woods and open fields towards Bolsena and its spectacular volcanic lake and Monaldeschi castle.

03 Ta’Pinu and Gharb 12km or 14km First stop is the fantastic neo-Romanesque basilica and National shrine, Ta’ Pinu and then continue on to Gharb with its stunning 350 year old Baroque church. We did six walks... highlight for us was the locality around the hotel, Ta' Cenc is a nature reserve with fabulous sunsets and ancient cart ruts and dolmens. The local bay is great to swim, snorkel and dive off the rocks – [and] take the boat trip at the Inland Sea near Fungus rock: the light filtering through azure water in the caves is stunning. All in all, we loved it.”

Narrow, stonewalled lanes lead down to bamboo groves and to Fungus Rock, the former site of the Azure Window, and the Inland Sea. 07 Bays and Towers Walk 12km Beginning at Qala, it's an easy stroll to Dahlet Qorrot, a tiny harbour with gaily coloured boat houses.

ITINERARY 01 Arrive in Sagres Arrive at the Memmo Baleeira in the characterful coastal town of Sagres in time for your dinner which is included.

02 Sagres to Pedralva 15km or 17km Follow the Fishermen’s Trail to clifftops and the impressive Amado beach. Drop down to the village of Carrapateira, then pick up the Rota Vicentina (walking trail) through the Sinceira Valley to Aldeia da Pedralva. You’ll stay here for two nights with dinner included both nights.

03 At Pedralva Unwind in the pretty village or enjoy one of two optional walks. Follow a clifftop trail back to Amado beach or a smaller loop along the Marreiros plateau, taking in the amazing views.

04 Pedralva to Vila do Bispo 13km or 18km There are two options for today, both setting off through a forest of pine and eucalyptus as you follow the Rota Vicentina, then a meandering trail through flower meadows leading you along a path and down to the pretty village of Vila do Bispo. The longer trail adds a wonderful horseshoe loop heading into the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, to Praia da Barriga with its impressive cliffs and crashing waves.

05 At Vila do Bispo Visit the coastal town of Lagos, with its tangled, cobbled lanes. Alternatively, there are two walks: one taking in the cliffs and views above Vila do Bispo; the other's a real gem of a walk through rolling hills and gentle valleys to Raposeira and Guadalupe Chapel.

06 Vila do Bispo to Cabo de São Vicente/Sagres 15km Surrounded by foaming Atlantic breakers, Cabo de Sao Vicente marks the most south-westerly point of Europe. The walk out to the edge of the continent should prove to be one of the highlights of your week! You are spoilt with amazing coastal scenery on this wild and unpopulated route that follows sandy paths and gorse-strewn meadows to the very edge of the Iberian Peninsula. At the Cape there is a lighthouse, museum and small bar, offering wonderful photo opportunities. It's a short transfer back to Sagres where you can relax with a cold drink on the waterfront, watching fishermen mending their nets.

Walking the levadas was a very interesting way to see the parts of Madeira some people never see. The transfers each day were excellent but best of all was the quality of the hotels which were excellent and are in locations that let you experience the different areas of Madeira.”

02 Circular Walk to Sao Jorge 10km or 13km Take the panoramic coastal path that leads you to the ancient cobbled route linking Santana to Sao Jorge. Past agapanthus and cacti descending to the coast and Calhau, then follow the coast and ascend to Sao Jorge with its lighthouse and fabulous MR CLARK coastal vistas. The mighty peak of Pico Ruivo frames the horizon as you return to Santana.

03 The Caldeirao Verde Levada 14km From the Parque das Queimadas follow the shady Caldeirao Verde Levada into the Vale da Lapa with magnificent scenery, before reaching the magnificent Caldeiro Verde waterfall via a series of impressive levada tunnels and descend through the Lapa valley.

04 Santana to Ribeiro/Santo da Serra 14km A scenic 25 minute ride takes you to Ribeiro Frio.

Join the Levada do Furado, a verdant paradise of laurel, heather and pine with waterfalls tumbling into the gushing river. Tiny firecrest and tame finches flit between the trees, which occasionally part to reveal stunning views of white hilltop hamlets. You descend to Santo da Serra's vibrant square with its lively market. Stay overnight at Santo da Serra.

05 Sao Lourenco 8km A short transfer takes you to the eastern tip of Madeira. Explore the peninsula loop of the Ponte de Sao Lourenco's Nature Reserve with jagged peaks, sweeping ocean views and masses of flora and fauna.

06 Cabo Girao Walk 11km A transfer takes you to Boa Morte to take the Levada do Norte, through pine and eucalyptus trees, and on paths lined with pink belladonna flowers. ITINERARY 01 Arrive in St Wolfgang Stay by the shores of Lake Wolfgang.

02 St Wolfgang to Bad Ischl 12km Walk up to Lake Schwarzensee where it's worth a break at the lake cabin of Lore to savour the delicious homemade snacks. Continue along the Wirer gorge into the valley and around Burglstein to the lake promenade of Strobl from where you travel by bus to Bad Ischl.

03 Bad Ischl to Hallstatt 11km From Bad Ischl walk along the riverside promenade into Kaltenbachau, a site of Imperial amusements such as horse races, picnics and rendezvous.

Follow the brine pipeline trail, used to transport salt from Hallstatt to Bad Ischl, to Bad Goisern, the gateway to UNESCO heritage Hallstatt. Take the train for the last section.

04 Hallstatt to St Wolfgang 18km Take the train to Bad Ischl then follow the romantic Sissi-Path to the tiny lake Nussensee. Continue along the River Ischl and through the Blinklingmoos Nature Reserve following the lake back to St Wolfgang.

ITINERARY 01 Arrive in Motovun Arrive at your hilltop hotel in Motovun, the Hotel Kastel, where you’ll spend the next three nights.

02 At Motovun – Circular Walk 17km Ascend through Kaldir Valley before reaching a high ridge with excellent views of Mount Vojak and the sea. Picnic amid olive groves then stroll along the castle sentry’s walkway around the ancient city walls.

Eat at one of the many local restaurants in the evening.

03 At Motovun – Motovun to Groznjan 20km or 25km It’s a steady descent (or short transfer) to reach Livade’s panoramic walking track that leads over aqueducts and bridges. Then it’s onwards through apple orchards and smreka bushes to reach the artists’ village of Groznjan. Enjoy the views before transferring back to Motovun just in time for dinner.

04 Motovun to Buzet 14km After a 10-minute transfer to the abandoned village of Bentonici, a forest trail leads you high above the Mirna River. Ascend a stone-slab trail (used since the Middle Ages by traders and travellers) before descending to the Roman hilltop settlement of Buzet.

Spend the next two nights at the Hotel Vela Vrata.

05 At Buzet – Circular Walk 12km High above Buzet, a limestone escarpment runs east to west above shady oak woods. Pass through villages leading up onto the ridge for uninterrupted views back to Motovun. Follow the escarpment edge across wind-scoured limestone as Buzet floats on clouds below, and paragliders launch themselves into the sky. Descend past country churches and tumbledown villages leads back to the hotel.

06 Buzet to Opatija 10km It's a 40-minute transfer to Ucka Nature Park, a haven for many protected flowers and plants, before you zigzag to the summit of Istria’s highest peak, Mount Vojak. From here you can take in 360-degree views of Croatia’s islands and Alpine peaks in Slovenia, Switzerland and Italy. On the descent, look out for orange fire lily, amethyst sea holly and bee orchids. Then it's a short transfer to Opatija, and two nights on the coast.

07 At Opatija 6km or 12km The Adriatic Riviera was a playground for the social elite in the 19th century. Impressive villas with opulent gardens rich in local and exotic plants line the waterfront with views over to the Velebit mountains. A panoramic walkway leads along the sea between yachting marinas, pretty coves, sea cliffs and azure bays for 6km into Lovran. Enjoy lunch on the waterside with a view over to Cres Island. Either catch the local bus back or stroll home above the waves.

ITINERARY 01 Arrive in Venabu Take the transfer (3 hours) from Oslo Airport to Venabu just in time for your first dinner. Head to the ski room to be kitted out for the week, followed by a briefing of the week’s exciting activities.

PARTICIPATION On a guided group holiday it is necessary that you abide by the authority of the tour leader, who represents the Company. The tour leader is not an employee of the Company, however they are appointed by the Company to guide your holiday. If you commit any illegal act when on the holiday or if in the reasonable opinion of the tour leader or another person in authority your behaviour is disruptive, threatening or abusive, causes unnecessary inconvenience or is causing or likely to cause damage to property, danger, distress or upset, disturbance or annoyance to others or puts any traveller or our staff or agents in the UK or resort in any risk or danger, on the telephone, in writing or in person, we may terminate your travel arrangements without any liability on our part.

PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS We ask you to let us know of any pre-existing conditions, illnesses, disabilities or recent surgeries that may affect your safety or other people’s enjoyment of the holiday. There is no upper age limit on our tours, but as most holidays are quite active we may ask clients over the age of 80 a number of questions about their health and fitness. We also require you to advise us of any dietary requirements in advance of a tour.

ACCOMMODATION Our prices include accommodation based on two adults sharing a twin or double room with en-suite facilities. Please speak to a sales consultant if you would like to enquire about a single room and associated additional supplements.

British nationals require a full passport that is valid for six months after the date of your scheduled return home. We recommend that you visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice to ensure any necessary travel vaccinations / regulatory visitor requirements are met prior to booking and travelling. A GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) may be used within certain destination countries www.gov.uk/global-healthinsurance-card. A GHIC does not constitute as adequate travel insurance, we strongly recommend additional cover is taken.

RISKS OF ADVENTURE TRAVEL Whilst we ensure that all activities are operated to the local legal standard, many of our holidays do carry an element of risk. We require that all the properties and transport we use comply fully with local regulations, but we do not guarantee the same standards as in your home country. If you choose to travel on this type of holiday, you must be prepared to accept that this is all part of the experience. Outdoor activities are weather dependent to an extent and some can become dangerous in certain conditions. We will take all reasonable care of you and expect that you will take sensible precautions yourself.

3. BOOKING ON A FLIGHT INCLUSIVE OR LAND ONLY BASIS Headwater holidays can be booked on a land only basis or with flights included. When booking on a flight inclusive basis, Headwater complies with our responsibilities under the ATOL regime. For all packages (flight inclusive or not) we comply with the Package Travel and Linked Travel Regulations 2018. In the event of a significant change to travel plans by an airline, we are responsible for ensuring that you can complete your journeys in a reasonable timeframe and without additional cost to yourself. Details of your rights under the Package Travel Regulations can be found at www.headwater.com/key-rights FLIGHT COSTS AND SUPPLEMENTS Flight inclusive prices include return flights from a London airport and UK departure tax. Our flight inclusive holiday prices include a base price for the flights, however this is always subject to availability at the time of booking as airfares are outside of our control. Where the cost of flights is higher than this base price, a flight supplement may be applicable; your sales consultant will be able to advise you if this is the case. We can often arrange flights from regional airports too; your sales consultant will be able to advise you if this is the case.

TRANSFERS If you book a flight inclusive package with us, return airport transfers will be included in the package price. If you book a land only holiday transfers can be arranged at an additional cost. Please ask your sales consultant for transfer details during the booking process. If you book on a land only basis, services start and end at the local joining point detailed in your documentation.

TRAVEL INSURANCE It is an essential condition of joining a Headwater holiday that you have an adequate and valid travel insurance policy for the full duration of your holiday to cover the cost of medical treatment, cancellation and curtailment, and the activities included in the holiday (including the maximum altitude reached). We recommend that you take out insurance as soon as your booking is confirmed.

5. PAYMENT, CANCELLATIONS AND CHANGES Unless stated otherwise during the booking process or in the full terms and conditions, the following applies: DEPOSIT You will be asked to pay a deposit at the time of booking of at least £300 per person. You will be advised of your deposit at the time the booking is made and/or confirmed. You may also be required to pay on booking for any non-transferable and non-refundable items; your sales consultant will advise you of this during the booking process.

Please note that for certain travel arrangements the deposit may be higher than those shown.

FINAL BALANCE We will invoice you for the remainder of the cost of your holiday, which must be paid prior to 70 days before departure. In certain cases, we may request full payment more than 70 days before departure where, for example, airlines require full payment on booking.

MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR HOLIDAY Please contact Headwater as soon as possible if you wish to make a change to your existing booking, wish to change to a different tour or wish to change departure date. We will always endeavour to assist with the requested change, but this is subject to availability and payment may need to be made for non-refundable costs (for example from airlines) and other fees may also be applicable.

CANCELLATION CONDITIONS You may cancel your tour at any time by providing written communication from the lead booker. As we start to incur costs from the time the contract is confirmed we will retain your deposit and will apply other cancellation charges as shown below.

IF WE CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR BOOKING We plan the arrangements for your tour many months in advance and may occasionally have to make changes, most of which are minor.

WHEN A MAJOR CHANGE (AS OUTLINED IN THE FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS ON OUR WEBSITE) OCCURS, YOU WILL HAVE THE CHOICE OF EITHER: a) Accepting the change; or b) Accepting a replacement tour from us of equivalent or similar standard and price (at the date of the change), if we are able to offer you one; or c) Cancelling your tour, in which case you shall receive a full refund of all monies paid.

Some of our holidays are group holidays and require a certain number of participants to operate; we include details of normal group sizes on our website. In the unlikely event that a holiday does not reach the normal minimum, we may be forced to cancel the tour; a decision will be made as early as possible and not later than four weeks before departure. We reserve the right to confirm holidays on numbers lower than the minimum indicated and occasionally we may exceed the normal maximum. If at the time of booking your holiday is not guaranteed, we strongly recommend that you do not make any non-refundable or nonchangeable travel arrangements.

While it’s not possible to always be precise about how easy or difficult an activity will be, our activity ratings have been carefully designed to give you a practical guide as to what you can expect. When assigning an activity level to a holiday we consider factors such as gradient, length of walk as well as the terrain or route conditions.

Suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit and healthy, enjoys the occasional weekend walk and can walk for 2-5 hours on any given day. Trails are seldom totally flat so you should be prepared for gentle ascents and descents but a head for heights is not necessary.

Suitable for anyone looking for walks of 4-6 hours and confident with daily ascents/descents of up to 700m. You don’t need specific walking experience; however, good health and reasonable fitness are important. There may be some sections on uneven terrain where scrambling is required. A head for heights may be required on some routes.

Fitness is important as you can expect to be walking for over 5 hours a day (5-8 hrs for level 3, 6-8 hrs for level 4) including ascents/descents of up to 1,000m for level 3, and up to 1,200m for level 4 walks. High altitudes, climate and remoteness can also be factors depending on your chosen destination. Compass reading skills and experience of walking in mountains is important, and you should have a reasonable head for heights. There is likely to be some scrambling required, although not rock climbing. Not suitable for under-12s.

Gentle cross-country skiing and winter activities suitable for relative beginners. Skiing is mostly on well prepared tracks.

Suitable for more experienced skiers with a good level of fitness.

Routes will include more ascents and descents and may include sections through virgin snow.

Customers should have controlled technique and ability to get up swiftly and easily after a fall.

These are more demanding trips that require a high level of fitness and good technique. Routes may include high snowy peaks, long ascents and faster paced sections. Suitable for experienced skiers only.

These trips have some sections of the route that are more challenging than the overall grading.

All accommodation detailed in this brochure has been inspected and classified by the authorities of the relevant countries. As there is no direct British equivalent of many classifications, the broad expression ‘hotels’ refers to all the different types of accommodation we use, from friendly family-run B&B and country inns to luxury  hotels (where is the country’s official hotel rating).

The H symbol indicates the level of comfort for all accommodation not falling within the country’s official rating system and has been assessed by us in a similar way to the star system used by the AA within the UK. These accommodations are usually officially licensed, extremely popular with customers and very much part of the country way of life.

Our prices include accommodation based on two adults sharing a twin or double room with en-suite / private bathroom facilities.

PLEASE NOTE: In Europe when requesting a room for three people either a double or twin room with an extra bed is often provided, which may be cramped.

• Single rooms (even if you’ve paid a supplement) sometimes just offer privacy, and are often of a lower standard than doubles or twins.

• When requesting a room with twin beds in Austria, Croatia, Germany or Switzerland a double bed frame with two single mattresses and separate bedding are the norm.

• Some facilities, including swimming pools may not be available for early and late season holidays and the reduced prices shown on our website reflect this.

• Any special children’s facilities are generally only available during school holidays.

All prices quoted in the brochure are in GBP. Lead prices shown are ‘land only’ (i.e. exclude flights) and include accommodation based on two adults sharing a room with en-suite/private facilities. Prices are correct at time of going to press but should be treated as a guide only.

In countries where wearing a cycling helmet is mandatory (see above) you are expected to bring your own helmet as we cannot guarantee the availability of helmets for hire or purchase at your destination. If you decide to hire or purchase a helmet at your destination the choice of helmet and its suitability are at your discretion and Headwater will not be responsible for any issues or problems with helmets or other protective headwear. Note that if you do not have a helmet in countries where it is mandatory, you will not be allowed to take part in any cycling element, which may mean that you are not able to continue with the tour and Headwater will not be responsible for any costs you incur as a result.

To help you choose a holiday that best suits your level of fitness, all our holidays are given an activity level rating, see page 57 for more details.

Even in countries where cycling helmets are not a legal requirement, we strongly recommend that all customers wear helmets while on one of our cycling tours. You are expected to bring your own helmet as we cannot guarantee the availability of helmets for hire or purchase at your destination. If you do decide to hire or purchase a helmet at your destination the choice of helmet and its suitability are at your discretion and Headwater will not be responsible for any issues or problems with helmets or other protective headwear. If you choose to ignore our advice to wear a helmet or other protective headwear you understand that you do so at your own risk and that such action may affect the validity of your travel insurance. Cycling of all kinds has its dangers and accidents can happen from time to time. Please ensure that you are properly prepared for the riding you are going to undertake.

CHILDREN’S PRICES We can often offer prices for children, including infants (over 1 and under 12 on the date of the outward travel) when sharing a double/ twin room with two adults or two full fare paying passengers. Please contact us for details and prices.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS & CAR HIRE Our air and air-rail inclusive arrangements are detailed on our website; here you will find the most up to date timings and routes along with all UK regional airport information. Should you prefer to travel to your destination by Eurostar and onward rail or take one of the various channel crossings you can find all the details relating to these options on our website along with prices and what’s included. For holidays where car hire is not included in the standard package we can, of course, arrange car hire for you - contact us for details.

TAXES Departure/arrival taxes and visa charges which are payable locally in cash are not included in the holiday price. Neither are local tourist taxes like the French taxe de sejour and Italian tassa di soggiorno (if charged), which are payable directly to your hotelier at the end of your stay.
