What according to you makes for a transformational leader? How do you integrate the same thought into your leadership?

What prompted you to begin your entrepreneurial career?

Ididn'tactuallywanttobeanentrepreneurafter growingupwithanentrepreneurialmom.I startedmyirstoficialbusinessattheageof23 becauseIdidn'thavetheopportunitytogetajob inmyieldofstudy.Itbeganasasidehustleand awayformetocontinueusingmycreativity, whileworkingafull-timejob.Yearafteryearit grewandeventuallybecamemyfull-time income.

What approach do you follow in ensuring optimal client satisfaction?

Acombinationofcompassionateunderstanding andbutt-kickingmotivation!It'simportantto havebothbecausemorethananythingwe're humansandweneedboth.

What has the journey been like for Bri Seeley over the years?

It'sbeenatrip.Theentrepreneurialjourneyin generalisajourneyofextremes.Thebest

Looking back, what would you have done different when starting out?

IwishIwouldhavehiredacoachto helpmefromtheget-go.Iwastedso muchtime,energyandmoneyontrial anderror,withafocusonallthewrong things.Mybusinessandmyjourney wouldberemarkablydifferentifIknew andtrustedhowimpactfulacoach wouldbeinsupportingme.

What would be your advice for aspiring and emerging women entrepreneurs?

Gethelpandsetyourselfupforsuccess. Thesuccessratesforentrepreneursare abysmalandlessthan10%ofwomen ownedbusinesseseverreachthe6igurethreshold.Ifyou'regoingtotake therisktobecomeanentrepreneur, don'triskthesuccessofyourbusiness ontrialanderror.Riskeverythingyou cantowardsyoursuccess.

What makes you stand out as a business and leadership coach?

Iconsidermyselfanentrepreneurcoach becauseIviewbusinessasinherently personal.One'spersonalhabits,mindset andbeliefparadigmsimpactthesuccess ofyourbusinessjustasmuch(ifnot more)thanyourstrategy.Inorderfor

myclientstosucceed,Isupportthemonaholisticlevelfrom theinsideout.

What are some of the pre-conceived notions or stereotypes that you have faced being a women entrepreneur?

I'vemetalotofmeninthebusinessarenawhoassumethatmy businessisjustahobbyorthatI'mbeingbankrolledbya signiicantother.It'sunfortunatethatincertaincircles,women stillaren'ttakenseriouslyinbusiness.ButIdon'ttakeitasmy responsibilitytochangethem,andinsteadjustcontinuebeing thebesttoletmyexpertiseandauthorityspeakforitself.

What has been the biggest roadblock during your journey? What has been your biggest learning?

Myself.WhatI'velearnedduringthisjourneyisthatIamthe beginningandendingofmybusiness-mybusinesscannot surpassme.IfIbelievesomethingisimpossible,itbecomes impossible.AndifIbelievesomethingtobepossible,it becomespossible.I(andeveryentrepreneurreadingthis)are concurrentlyourbiggestroadblockandourbiggestsourceof opportunity.Learningtonavigateourselvesisahuge ingredientinbusinesssuccess.

What does the future look like for you in the coming years? What is your long-term vision?

Continuingtosupportentrepreneursthroughstarting,building andgrowingproitablebusinessesinmytwosignature programs“MonetizeYourVision”and“TheEntrepreneur Accelerator”,writingmysecondbook,startingtotravelto speakingengagementsagainandlaunchingmyownwomen's entrepreneurconference!

Finally, what do you think is the most important trait for a leader and why?

Nottosoundlikeabrokenrecord…Integrity.It'simportantfor leaderstobehonestabouttheirjourneyandwhatactually goesintobuildingabrandandbusiness.ThedaysofInstagram perfectionandsleazy“quickix”marketingarethankfully ending.Peoplewantleaderstheycanrelatetoandtheydon't wanttobedeceived.Thosewhoareleadingwithintegritywill risetothetopandcontinuetothriveinbusinessbecauseof this.

Buildinga Successful Businesswith theToolsYou AlreadyHave

uildingabusinessisnotfor theweakatheart.Overnight successesarerare.Accordingto theBureauofLaborStatistics' BusinessEmploymentDynamics, only50%ofbusinessessurvive theirifthyearofoperation,and only30%ofbusinesseswillmake itpasttheten-yearmark.Beingan entrepreneurisilledwith challengesandsetbacks,butitcan provideyouwithopportunities thatyoucanonlyimagineworking asaW2employee.

IneverthoughtIwouldgofrom beingagovernmentandW2 employeetoasuccessful entrepreneur.Mymentorsand peopleIworkedwithweretheirst

oneswhobroughtupthenotion.

AfterIquitmylong-term governmentcareer,Itooka positionasanEVPatasmall company.EventhoughIheldan executiveposition,Ihadno ownershipofthecompany.Forsix years,Ihelpedtheownersgrow theirbusiness,butIwasn'tableto shareintheproitdespitebeing responsiblefordevelopingthe growthofapracticeareawhich ultimatelyrepresented80%ofthe company'srevenue.Istartedto thinktwiceaboutwhatmy mentorsandpeopleIworkedwith said,“ifIwassuccessfulinhelping someoneelsebuildandgrowtheir business,Icandothesamefor myself.”

WhenIirstbegan,Iknewnothing aboutstartingabusinessor runningabusiness.WhatIdid knowwasthatIhadifteenyears ofexperienceworkingforthestate andfederalgovernment,twelveof thoseyearsgrowingaggressively inmyleadershipexecution,soI tookwhatIknewandusedthemto buildAvantGarde.

Herearethreeessentialprinciples thatIlearnedinmytwelveyears servingtheformerTexasGovernor andPresidentBushthathelpedme buildasuccessfulbusiness.

LOOK AT THE TOOLS YOU ALREADY HAVE

Beforeyouputabusinessplaninto action,thinkabout (1)whatyoucanofferthatis worthsomethingtosomeoneelse, (2)whomightneedit,and(3)who mightacquireit.

Iheldleadershippositionsinthe TexasStateGovernmentandatthe WhiteHouse,whichtaughtme howtobearesults-driven, outcome-basedleader.Becauseof mybackgroundandupbringing,I hadtremendoustenacityand resiliencetoworkanddealwith dificultissues.Iwentfrombeinga pregnant,teenagedropoutlivingin povertywhosurvivedallsortsof abusetoholdingaseniorexecutive positionasaCommissionedOficer attheWhiteHousewhen9/11 happened.IknewtherewaslittleI couldencounterthatwouldstop me.Ibuiltareputationformyself asthego-topersontogetthings done.Iwasthechangeagentwho wouldtaketheinitiativeand orchestratechangestosolve problems.

DuringmytenureastheEVP,I contributedtothegrowthofthe businessthroughtheexperience, gifts,andtalentscultivatedduring my15yearsingovernment service.Iwasconidentthesesame skillscanhelpwiththe developmentofmyownbusiness.

BUILD A NETWORK

Nobusinesscansurviveinasilo. Afterall,you'reaskingpeopletodo businesswithyou,butpeopletend toonlydobusinesswiththosethey likeandwanttoworkwith.Having astrongnetworkcanhelpmake

yourbusiness,andthelackofone canbreakit.

Duringmytimeinmygovernment career,Ibuiltaverystrong networkofpeoplewhotrustedme, reliedonme,andcouldcounton metodeliver.WhenIstartedmy business,theybecamemy superpowerandthekeytomy initialsuccess.Ihadarolodexwith hundredsofpeoplewhoIcould callandconnectwithinperson. Onceitbecameclearthatmy consultingserviceswouldbeneit anyorganization,including governmentagencies,Ireached outtomynetworkandbegan marketing.Ididn'tgetmyirst clientsbycoldcallingpeople; instead,Itappedmywarmleads.

Ialsodeviseastrategyandprocess toevolvemybusinessfrombeing merelyavendortoa"trusted advisor."Itismuchharderto replaceaproven,trustadvisor thanjustavendor,whomaybe providingservicesothersprovide.

Nearlythirteenyearslater,more than80%ofAvantGarde'sclients aretheresultsofourcurrentor formerclients'networks.Never underestimatethepowerofyour networkwhenbuildingyour business.

LEVERAGE YOUR EXPERTISE, BUT BUILD ON TOP OF IT TO SCALE
