The Journey of a Visionary Leader Natasha's passion for communication and coaching was sparked by a deep belief in people's potential. "I've always been drawn to communications and coaching because I saw their power to inspire, uplift, and empower," she shares.

Her career began in corporate communications, where she gained over 20 years of experience in branding, public relations, and crisis management.

"At age eleven, a sermon about being 'fearfully and wonderfully made' resonated deeply with me, boosting my self-esteem and solidifying my relationship with God," she recalls. This faith-based con idence has fueled her mission to help others recognize their worth and potential.

While her faith is deeply personal, Natasha considers herself spiritual rather than religious, believing that spirituality transcends divisive labels. This inclusive perspective has guided her career, fostering a collaborative and understanding approach in her interactions with clients and audiences.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Vulnerability Starting her own company came with challenges, the biggest being overcoming her vulnerability and sharing her personal story. "I tend to be private, but I realized that vulnerability and authenticity were crucial for building trust in the coaching industry," she explains.

"By sharing my experiences, I was able to attract a signi icant following and establish a strong connection with my audience.

While I still value my privacy, I've learned to strike a balance between sharing enough to build rapport and maintaining healthy boundaries."

INTERVIEW WITH BRI SEELEY Coaching Entrepreneurs on How to Grow Their Business

he business world is more competitive than ever, and it has become much harder for leaders to stand out. And when it comes to leadership, word of mouth is the best form of advertisement you can have. If your people love working for you and respect you, they will spread those good words and naturally grow your company. Thus, leaders with integrity don't need to be feared because they know they are honest, genuine and are taking the world by storm due to this virtue.

In the following interview, Entrepreneur Coach Bri Seeley talks about the said integrity and why it makes a leader stand out from others leaders.

She also explains why entrepreneurs are their own roadblocks alongside guiding us as to why every entrepreneur must hire a coach.

What according to you makes for a transformational leader? How do you integrate the same thought into your leadership?

Integrity. In order to facilitate transformation in others, we as leaders need to be willing to irst facilitate it within ourselves. Long gone are the days where people want perfect leaders - they want leaders they can relate to. I approach life, business, and leadership with the courage to go

irst through the messiness, then show up for others and support them through their messiness.

What prompted you to begin your entrepreneurial career?

I didn't actually want to be an entrepreneur after growing up with an entrepreneurial mom. I started my irst of icial business at the age of 23 because I didn't have the opportunity to get a job in my ield of study. It began as a side hustle and a way for me to continue using my creativity, while working a full-time job. Year after year it grew and eventually became my full-time income.

What approach do you follow in ensuring optimal client satisfaction?

A combination of compassionate understanding and butt-kicking motivation! It's important to have both because more than anything we're humans and we need both.

What has the journey been like for Bri Seeley over the years?

It's been a trip. The entrepreneurial journey in general is a journey of extremes. The best

example I can give of this was the day I was interviewed on The TODAY Show when I had $0.25 in my bank account.

What it has taught me more than anything is to cultivate a strong, courageous, and powerful inner resilience. At any moment in this journey, my world could take a 180* turn and instead of letting external factors have control, I rely more on my inner resilience to keep going.

Looking back, what would you have done different when starting out?

I wish I would have hired a coach to help me from the get-go. I wasted so much time, energy and money on trial and error, with a focus on all the wrong things. My business and my journey would be remarkably different if I knew and trusted how impactful a coach would be in supporting me.

What would be your advice for aspiring and emerging women entrepreneurs?

Get help and set yourself up for success.

The success rates for entrepreneurs are abysmal and less than 10% of women owned businesses ever reach the 6igure threshold. If you're going to take the risk to become an entrepreneur, don't risk the success of your business on trial and error. Risk everything you can towards your success.

What makes you stand out as a business and leadership coach?

I consider myself an entrepreneur coach because I view business as inherently personal. One's personal habits, mindset and belief paradigms impact the success of your business just as much (if not more) than your strategy. In order for

my clients to succeed, I support them on a holistic level from the inside out.

What are some of the pre-conceived notions or stereotypes that you have faced being a women entrepreneur?

I've met a lot of men in the business arena who assume that my business is just a hobby or that I'm being bankrolled by a signi icant other. It's unfortunate that in certain circles, women still aren't taken seriously in business. But I don't take it as my responsibility to change them, and instead just continue being the best to let my expertise and authority speak for itself.

What has been the biggest roadblock during your journey?

What has been your biggest learning?

Myself. What I've learned during this journey is that I am the beginning and ending of my business - my business cannot surpass me. If I believe something is impossible, it becomes impossible. And if I believe something to be possible, it becomes possible. I (and every entrepreneur reading this) are concurrently our biggest roadblock and our biggest source of opportunity. Learning to navigate ourselves is a huge ingredient in business success.

What does the future look like for you in the coming years?

What is your long-term vision?

Continuing to support entrepreneurs through starting, building and growing pro itable businesses in my two signature programs “Monetize Your Vision” and “The Entrepreneur Accelerator”, writing my second book, starting to travel to speaking engagements again and launching my own women's entrepreneur conference!

Finally, what do you think is the most important trait for a leader and why?

Not to sound like a broken record… Integrity. It's important for leaders to be honest about their journey and what actually goes into building a brand and business. The days of Instagram perfection and sleazy “quick ix” marketing are thankfully ending. People want leaders they can relate to and they don't want to be deceived. Those who are leading with integrity will rise to the top and continue to thrive in business because of this.

Building a Successful Business with the Tools You Already Have uilding a business is not for the weak at heart. Overnight successes are rare. After I quit my long-term government career, I took a position as an EVP at a small company. Even though I held an executive position, I had no ownership of the company. For six years, I helped the owners grow their business, but I wasn't able to share in the pro it despite being responsible for developing the growth of a practice area which ultimately represented 80% of the company's revenue. I started to think twice about what my mentors and people I worked with said, “if I was successful in helping someone else build and grow their business, I can do the same for

When I irst began, I knew nothing about starting a business or running a business. What I did know was that I had ifteen years of experience working for the state and federal government, twelve of those years growing aggressively in my leadership execution, so I took what I knew and used them to build AvantGarde.

Here are three essential principles that I learned in my twelve years serving the former Texas Governor and President Bush that helped me build a successful business.

LOOK AT THE TOOLS YOU ALREADY HAVE

your business, and the lack of one can break it.

Before you put a business plan into action, think about (1) what you can offer that is worth something to someone else, (2) who might need it, and (3) who might acquire it.

During my time in my government career, I built a very strong network of people who trusted me, relied on me, and could count on me to deliver. When I started my business, they became my superpower and the key to my initial success. I had a rolodex with hundreds of people who I could call and connect with in person.

Once it became clear that my consulting services would bene it any organization, including government agencies, I reached out to my network and began marketing. I didn't get my irst clients by cold calling people; instead, I tapped my warm leads.

I held leadership positions in the Texas State Government and at the White House, which taught me how to be a results-driven, outcome-based leader. Because of my background and upbringing, I had tremendous tenacity and resilience to work and deal with dif icult issues. I went from being a pregnant, teenage dropout living in poverty who survived all sorts of abuse to holding a senior executive position as a Commissioned Of icer at the White House when 9/11 happened. I knew there was little I could encounter that would stop me. I built a reputation for myself as the go-to person to get things done. I was the change agent who would take the initiative and orchestrate changes to solve problems.

During my tenure as the EVP, I contributed to the growth of the business through the experience, gifts, and talents cultivated during my 15 years in government service. I was con ident these same skills can help with the development of my own business.

BUILD A NETWORK No business can survive in a silo.

Afterall, you're asking people to do business with you, but people tend to only do business with those they like and want to work with. Having a strong network can help make

I also devise a strategy and process to evolve my business from being merely a vendor to a "trusted advisor." It is much harder to replace a proven, trust advisor than just a vendor, who may be providing services others provide.

Nearly thirteen years later, more than 80% of AvantGarde's clients are the results of our current or former clients' networks. Never underestimate the power of your network when building your business.

LEVERAGE YOUR EXPERTISE, BUT BUILD ON TOP OF IT TO SCALE In order to convince your potential customers to invest in you, you need to establish yourself as a thought leader and expert in the business. Once you're known in the marketplace as a thought leader or expert, bring people who can build on top of the values your business

has to offer onto your team.

When I started AvantGarde, more than 80% of our business was in HR even though it was a consulting irm for HR, Strategy and IT services. However, HR was the focus of my entire government career and the expertise I brought to the table. Once revenue began to low, I hired other people whose expertise complemented mine. For example, I wanted to scale up our service offerings to give our clients a holistic approach to their problems, so I hired people who were smarter than me—people who were experts in the areas I want to scale up in such as Organizational Development, Change Management, Strategy, and Business Process IT. I also teamed with a partner who had a robust IT background and expertise. This elevated our capabilities as a irm.

I believe that anyone can build a thriving business in America as long as they have (a) a vision, (b) a speci ic skill set, expertise, or talent, (c) a robust network, (d) and a well-thought-out plan of execution. Nothing is more satisfying than reaching your goals and seeing your vision come to fruition. If you think being an entrepreneur is your calling, here are 10 steps that you can begin taking now to achieve your entrepreneurial goal.

Ten Steps to Begin Your Entrepreneurial Journey Ÿ Determine what you have to offer. Once you decide what that is, set yourself apart by identifying what makes your offering unique.

Ÿ Create a business plan or strategy. DO NOT jump out and start a business with no plan.

Make a plan and stick to it.

Incorporate phases of development and set realistic milestones. Ÿ Learn 101 about starting a business. Learn all that there is to know about how to set up the right structure from the getgo. This includes learning the legal requirements and regulations, protecting intellectual property, obtaining the appropriate insurance, and even considering your longterm exit strategy. Ÿ Pick the right partner. A business partnership is like a marriage. You have to stick together through thick and thin.

Take inventory of your shared values and goals, and whether your skills complement one another, etc.

Ÿ Map out your inancial plan.

Determine what your inancial needs are and how you plan to fund the irst stages of development. Ÿ Build your brand. Think about how you will showcase and advertise your business to your potential customers. Start with a basic website and a simple marketing plan using social media to your advantage. Ÿ Build and expand your network. If you don't have a professional network, focus on building a network as soon as possible and continually invest energy into expanding it. Ÿ Make an operational plan.

Unlike a business plan that focuses on high-level strategies, an operational plan lays out tactical steps, the “who, how, when, what,” necessary to execute your business plan.

Ÿ Engage the right people to support your business.

Having PEOPLE on your team can make or break a CEO or entrepreneur, so it is important to hire people who believe in your cause and champion your vision. Ÿ Focus on continual learning.

You can ind a business mentor, join a chamber group, or take classes on zoom, online or with your local chamber. The more knowledge you gain, the more knowledge you will have in building your business.

We live in a country that affords anyone, regardless of their background, pedigree, or status to build and grow a business – I am living proof of that! Embrace your vision, leverage your strengths, and build meaningful connections.

Remember, the tools are within reach – now, it's time to craft your story.

70% of organizational programs fail and the most likely cause is often a lack of communication. I have witnessed many points of failure in organizations due to poor communication planning, skill, and tactics.

Providing our teams clear, concise, and frequent communication cannot be underrated. Much of my consulting is in support of helping leaders foster stronger skills toward communicating their vision, mission, delivering feedback, navigating dif icult conversations which all point toward elevating employee performance and engagement.

What advice would you give to aspiring leaders on fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture?

Active listening is critical. My advice is to maintain ongoing authentic dialog with team members and ask open ended questions. I encourage leaders to schedule employee brainstorming or ideation sessions because these interactions foster creativity and collaboration among team members, leading to innovative ideas and solutions. This can help people feel heard and included.

Your book, 'A Candid Conversation' combines memoir and a guide to re lection and empowerment.

What inspired you to write this book, and what key lessons do you hope readers take away from it?

Talk to us about your growing up years. What is your earliest memory as a leader / entrepreneur that you can remember?

From a young age, I displayed a natural knack for managing money, staying organized, and taking charge of my time. According to my mother, I kept track of my allowance money in a ledger when I was 4! (I think I was likely closer to 6!)

By middle school, my entrepreneurial spirit was evident.

I chose homeschooling because I believed I could save time by teaching myself rather than relying on a teacher. At the beginning of each school year, my textbooks would arrive, and I would sit down with a calculator, divide the number of pages in the text by the number of days I wanted to study (usually 3-4 months), set my daily goals, then get to work. My mom mentioned that if she saw me playing outside, she was con ident that my work was done for the day!

By my senior year of high school, my passion for business led me to work at a prestigious inance company during the day and complete my studies at night.

But it wasn't just innate traits that shaped my entrepreneurial journey. My father, a lifelong entrepreneur, passed down a mindset of endless possibilities. He instilled in his children that everything is igureoutable long before Marie Forleo wrote about it!

His example instilled in me the con idence that I could “ igure out” how to succeed at just about anything!

How are you helping entrepreneurs and executives improve their overall business performance without sacri icing their personal lives?

In 2021, my life took an unexpected turn. I was forced to step away from my thriving career, sell my client list, and face a challenging illness head-on. Burnt out from the demanding pace of working nonstop, I realized I needed a different approach to not only ight this illness, but also to prioritize my overall well-being when I returned to my career.

Throughout my journey, I had the privilege of working with top doctors, therapists, mentors, and coaches. Drawing from my experience as a business advisor and fractional CFO for over a decade, I've developed a unique methodology that blends professional success and personal well-being.

Let me share the core idea behind my methodology through this funny story. I once con ided in my sister about a tough situation with a client, expressing my wish to escape to a tranquil tropical island and have a zero-responsibility job at a snow shack. I'll never forget her life-changing response. She reminded me that my ambition and drive would inevitably lead me to not just manage the snow shack, but “You'd open your own snow

shack, and soon, you'd start a snow shack franchise, and you'd be on all the islands. It's just who you are.”

And she was right!

When I am speaking on this topic, I often have the audience envision their career goals. I can always feel the energy in the room while people are envisioning the status or the income they aspire to.

So, my best advice to emerging women entrepreneurs is to be 100% authentically and unapologetically you. There is only one you, and if your brand shows the world who you are, you will attract the people who have been looking for you!

Looking ahead, what is your vision for your brand? What are you most excited about?

Then I ask them to envision themselves when they reach that goal. Who will they be? Will they be happy or stressed? Do they look tired or energized? Are they surrounded by friends and family?

Sadly, every time I reach that point in the exercise, the mood in the room plummets. So much of what we learn in our youth revolves around an “achievement leads to reward” structure. Especially in America, we are taught that hard work and dedication always pays off. To hustle and to grind is to win.

But what is missing in that tale is that without substantial teaching on the bene its of rest and a focus on health, the hustle isn't sustainable. And then comes the guilt and shame we put on ourselves for becoming too burnt out to remain successful. So, we hide it and push even harder, often leading to serious health consequences.

Having nearly lost my life to success, I'm on a mission to ensure others don't take the same path that I did. Coining the term #antihustlemovement, I am here to give hope that sustainable success is achievable without giving up everything!

What would be your advice for emerging women entrepreneurs when it comes to establishing market presence?

I am seeing a huge shift in the market over the last 5-7 years, and what it boils down to is that people are truly seeking out authenticity.

Between social media and userfriendly platforms that allow us all to create our own websites overnight, the market is overwhelmed with choices of service-providers. And, since COVID, the increased level of consumers/companies willing to have work done remotely has

What according to you makes for a successful woman realtor? How have you integrated the same thought into your real estate journey?

A successful woman Realtor needs to be able to fully understand not only her clients' current and future housing needs, but also their equally as important emotional situation.

This requires the ability to listen actively, act compassionately, and provide viable solutions. My own experiences have given me these skills. I faced many challenges early on as a child with dyslexia. I learned to navigate school by using my listening skills and by speaking up to advocate for myself. I would seek help from teachers and others, and I was able to graduate with a BA in American Studies, while never inishing a novel. Audio books had not come into being yet.

Then, as a mother of three children who all have learning differences, one with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I used my evolving problem-solving skills to get them the services they needed. I was determined to help my children through their early years.

But I also had inspiration. My father was an entrepreneur and built his business on strong relationships where he always put his team and customers irst. I learned from the best.

As an agent today, I use the skills that I developed throughout my life to connect with and serve my clients. I hear their problems and help guide them through manageable actions, alleviating their concerns.

What prompted your interest and subsequently your foray into the real estate space?

I often say that my life's journey has provided me with the skills and expertise needed to run a successful real estate business that is both pro itable and embodies my core values.

I married very young and quickly discovered that my husband was a master carpenter and master gardener. We bought our irst condo before we were even married, but then he needed a yard for gardening. We tried to sell our condo, but with interest rates at 17% this became impossible. We discovered that we could rent our unit, cover our expenses and depreciate the property. We became landlords, and our journey began.

Throughout the years we moved several times, building homes, renovating houses, and owning various rental properties. I now have a son who is a professional carpenter and a daughter who is an interior architect.

As a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, talk to us about how you're helping seniors transition out of their homes.

Unfortunately, my husband and I divorced, and years later he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I quickly became personally involved with caring for a senior who needed to transition out of his current home and into a community. My children and I navigated the entire system including his medical diagnosis, the guardianship process and then ultimately the management of his estate. He died of COVID in 2020.

The experience made me instantly passionate about helping others

through this dif icult life-changing transition. It was frightening, stressful, and all-consuming. Most of us are not at all prepared to face the time in life when we can no longer care for ourselves. There are so many misconceptions and a great deal of information that is sales and pro it driven. Consumers are left to fend for themselves and are often taken advantage of or misguided during a time of crisis.

Hence, I became a Certi ied Senior Housing Professional. I studied and continue to study the best practices and have now devoted the rest of my life to advocating for, educating, and empowering seniors and their families through the emotional and physical demands of late life transitions.

I truly care about my clients, and I get deep satisfaction from helping them through this dif icult time in their lives. Maybe I have gone from being a full-time problem solver for myself, as a dyslexic student, and for my kids, to doing the same for seniors.

What are some of the emotional and logistical challenges that you face when it comes to providing seniors with housing solutions?

There are many challenges that seniors face as they begin to contemplate transitioning into alternative housing. As we age, leaving a legacy and maintaining control becomes increasingly more important. Emotionally, we catalog the years of our lives and begin to try to make sense of their meaning.

Our homes are a physical representation of that, compounding the emotional trauma of selling the home and parting

with many of our treasured possessions. Moving often also signals the end of our independence; another emotionally charged step. This is why appropriate listening skills and legacy coaching of a skilled Realtor is so important.

While emotionally and logistically handling the needs of seniors might be cumbersome for some, for me it is easy. Clients may need help with electronic signing or may call several times a day with the same question. But after so many years of juggling my children's emotions primarily on my own, I absolutely do not mind handling whatever my clients bring my way. In fact, I tell them, I answer all calls as long as the call is not one of my kids asking for money.

For me personally, I ind that helping seniors has helped me to reconcile my own legacy. I have found a purpose and a passion that I am hopeful will result in the betterment of others' lives.

What does a day in the life of Betsy Phillips look like? How do you ensure work-life balance?

I am an early riser and do my best work in the morning. This is when I write and do any kind of detail work. I am often attending networking and educational events and spend a great deal of time meeting new people and exploring options for my clients. The senior space is ever changing, and we need to keep up with the moving pieces.

As far as work life balance is concerned, my children are grown and I have plenty of time to do what I truly love. While I do spend most

of my time working, I now have the opportunity to “read” by listening to audio books, which I love. I am also a gym rat and a devoted dog lover. Anyone who knows me certainly knows my dogs, Leo and Kramer.

My vision is to create a trustworthy resource with easy access for the ever-growing senior population. I am hopeful that

through my work more seniors will face their housing options with knowledge and less stress.
