“PERFUME ANNOUNCES THE ARRIVAL OF A WOMAN AND PROLONGS HER DEPARTURE”
Coco Chanel
In this special edition of ELM, we pay tribute to icons of elegance, fine jewellery, unique perfumes, contemporary art, interviews, design...
The story behind all the jewels that Richard Burton gave to Elizabeth Taylor during their tumultuous marriage makes us reflect on the power of jewellery. Why do we women love it so much? Jewellery is not just a gem; it awakens a timeless sentimental value in many women as it becomes part of their history. ‘A piece chosen at a special moment for someone very special’... Jewellery symbolises love, seduction, elegance, power and success. Chaumet once again shines in the world of fine jewellery with pieces that are true sculptures of light, and we had the opportunity to try on their new collection.
With his secret seal of the hidden ruby, Roberto Coin reminds us that beauty, like feelings, is often found in the invisible details. Thanks to her natural elegance and impeccable career, actress Jessica Chastain, the global brand ambassador of Damiani jewellery, has established herself as one of the great muses of contemporary cinema. She not only dazzles on the big screen, but also embodies a woman who is committed to social causes, with an aesthetic that reflects character and depth.
In the world of perfumery, Guerlain continues to set the standard with its exclusive, unique fragrances, which are like liquid poetry. Drawing on connections with nature, femininity, oriental influences and French craftsmanship, each fragrance
provides a distinctive and sophisticated sensory experience. This issue features the beautiful Olivia O. Wickert on the cover. She once again surprises us with her new interior designs, and we are delighted to announce that she has been awarded the International Architecture and Design Award 2025.
Among all these illustrious women, we also remember Diana, Princess of Wales, whose legacy is as powerful as her smile.
When we talk about elegance, we inevitably think of Princess Diana. Her style defined an era and continues to inspire people to this day. What mattered was not what she wore, but how she wore it: with impeccable naturalness, quiet sophistication and an innate grace. From the moment she entered the public eye, Diana knew how to make fashion her own.
She was a designers’ muse and a trendsetter, but above all, she was a symbol of authenticity.
In the world of culture and art, we present a selection of art galleries and emerging talents that you won’t want to miss! All of this, and much more…
“JEWELLERY HAS THE POWER TO BE THE ONE LITTLE THING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL UNIQUE.”

In this exclusive conversation, acclaimed international interior designer Olivia O. Wickerts unveils the philosophy behind her studio, OMEO Design, recently awarded the AIDA – International Architecture & Design Award 2025 for Secret Spaces. Rooted in a deep respect for natural materials and a refined mastery of spatial storytelling, her work offers a true reconnection with the joy of real luxury. Beyond this, there’s still room for a lifestyle shaped by horses and philanthropic commitments. Have you heard of the famous #OllyBollyRanch parties? Take a deep dive into Olivia’s new way of living in Marbella.
Congratulations on receiving the Platinum IADA Award. What does this recognition represent for you and OMEO Studio? Thank you! It feels amazing to be recognised on a global stage, especially with this being our first-ever competition entry. Being validated by high-profile professionals at that level is deeply humbling. This moment belongs to my entire team. I couldn’t have achieved it without each and every one of them. I’m incredibly proud and grateful.
Designing luxury villas in Marbella is already an art form, but you’ve added secret spaces, spa caves, outdoor beaches with cascading water… projects that feel like something out of a childhood fairytale. Where do you begin when designing a villa? When I design a space, I always think about the three S’s, which are very important to me: Sophisticated, Sustainable, and Surprising. Sophistication means creating a beautiful home with outstanding design. A space should feel meaningful and well thought out, not just beautiful, but solid and enduring.

Sustainability for me is more than using recycled materials wherever possible, it also means designing in a way that’s long-lasting. Constantly replacing furniture has a serious environmental impact. I also fight hard to produce locally wherever in the world I’m working, to connect the space with the local talent where possible.
And finally, the Surprising element. I love including something unexpected. It brings playfulness and imagination into the home. It’s important to keep curiosity alive, to preserve the child within us, and to think a little outside the box.
I pour my entire heart and soul into every project. When I take something on, I dive in fully, almost obsessively. I care deeply about every detail, from the materials to how each element connects with the next. It might sound intense, but this level of dedication is the reason my projects often feel so complete. They carry a sense of harmony and warmth that makes a house feel like a real home. It’s this thoughtful approach that often leads my bespoke projects to sell both quickly and at a premium price.
Alongside your fascinating professional life, you still find time to enjoy the everyday. Tell us, what does a typical day in your life look like?
My mornings start simply — cuddling my baby, feeding my rescue dogs, and visiting the nearby field where my horses live. I often ride to the beach and also care for my four mares and rescue donkey.
After that, I usually visit one of my project sites — often still in my riding clothes. Then I hopefully return home to change into normal clothes for the rest of the day, with team meetings, client appointments, and checkins with our carpenters or upholstery partners.
Since I live in a very urban finca close to everything, I’m lucky to drop by home a few times a day. I use those moments to cuddle my baby girl, say hi to my dogs, and recharge a bit. Then I’m usually back at the office, working on planning and development for upcoming projects. I also visit my two stallions daily — training them or simply sharing a moment with some carrots before dinner.
If it’s a special day, I might end with dinner out with girlfriends. Otherwise, I come home and have dinner with my husband, John. Most evenings, our rescue donkey tries to join us — he’s always pressing his nose against the patio window. It’s very sweet. After dinner, I catch up on emails and devote time to my animal charity. On good days, we end with a family walk before heading to bed.

Your deep connection with animals has evolved into a meaningful rescue mission you’re now leading in Marbella. What does it bring you? Being around animals grounds me deeply. I’ve never been able to meditate — there are just too many thoughts racing through my mind. But spending time with my animals is my way of finding peace. When I’m with them, I have to be fully present, and that presence gives me strength every single day. I’ve rescued four horses, one donkey, and three dogs. Some now roam freely in my garden. Many came from heartbreaking situations — like my best riding horse, who was once near death. Giving these animals love and a second chance fills me with purpose. We also support local animal charities such as ARCH, Triple A, and Donkey Dreamland, and I participate in a Christmas initiative providing gifts for underprivileged children in Nuevo Hogar Betania, La Línea.
You’re also known for the funny and extravagant #OllyBollyRanch parties you organise in the villas you’ve lived in. What makes them so outstanding?
I grew up in a home filled with events. My father was deeply involved in the arts, and we had themed parties at least once a month. My grandmother was also an incredible hostess, welcoming my grandfather’s international guests with elegance and warmth. I suppose I inherited that love for hospitality from both sides of my family. It became part of my DNA to celebrate and bring people together. What I always try to create is a sense of home. There are no rules, no expectations, no masks — just the freedom to be yourself. Children are always welcome. Animals, too. In fact, my donkey is usually right in the middle of the party, often trying to sneak into the house and steal snacks from the guests. He’s part of the fun. For me, throwing parties is a way to connect people and celebrate life. There’s so much to be grateful for, and I love embracing traditions from different cultures. Diversity broadens my creativity, after all.
What’s next for you?
We just launched Casa Cenote, where we are right now. What makes it special is the element of surprise woven into the design. There are hidden features throughout — a secret underground cave spa, a concealed pantry behind a bookshelf, hidden doors leading to the bedrooms, even disguised kitchen cabinets that open into the office. The house is ready for its future owners to move into — for those who want to take living and lifestyle on the Costa del Sol to the next level.

JESSICA CHASTAIN
BEYOND STEREOTYPES
MÁS ALLÁ DE ESTEREOTIPOS
BY EVA DEL AMO
Few Hollywood stars combine the acting talent, charisma and social commitment of Jessica Chastain, a woman who has managed to transcend stereotypes to be the best version of herself on and off the screen.
‹‹
“She has a magnetism that makes her one of the most influential, inspiring and respected actors of her generation”
Jessica Chastain was born in Sacramento, California in 1977.
From an early age, she was drawn to acting and found theatre to be the best way to communicate with the world. It was her grandmother who encouraged her to pursue her dream, taking her to see plays and motivating her to believe in her talent. After years of study and dedication, she won a scholarship to the prestigious Juilliard School in New York.
FROM UNKNOWN TO INTERNATIONAL STAR
For several years, Chastain settled for small roles in television and theatre. Her big break came in 2011, a year that catapulted her to stardom, thanks to her success in films such as The Help, with a performance that earned her her first Oscar nomination.
A year later, Zero Dark Thirty propelled her to the forefront of Hollywood. Her performance as a CIA agent obsessed with capturing Osama Bin Laden not only won her a Golden Globe, but also made it clear that Chastain was not afraid to play the most complex characters.
Beyond red carpets and awards, Chastain is known for her activism in the fight for gender equality in the film industry.
The actor’s commitment is also reflected in her choice of characters. In Molly’s Game, she plays an empowered woman in a male-dominated world, while in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, her performance as the wife of a televangelist who rebels against Christian conservatism won her an Oscar. And in her latest hit, Memory, she plays a hard-working ex-alcoholic who dares to open the door to the past.
MAGNETISM AND INSPIRATION
What sets Chastain apart is her integrity. The film star has remained true to her values in the face of the most superficial Hollywood, speaking out loudly and clearly on issues such as sexual harassment in the industry.
Jessica Chastain is much more than just a talented actor. Every role she chooses and every statement she makes to the media reflects the thoughts of a woman who wants to change the world. She has a magnetism that makes her one of the most influential, inspiring and respected actors of her generation.
“In The Eyes of Tammy Faye, her performance as the wife of a televangelist who rebels against Christian conservatism won her an Oscar.”
ROBERTO COIN
ITALIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP
Roberto Coin has always defined craftsmanship as a work of balance. In addition to their technical mastery, the artisans who give form and substance to a piece of jewelry must have an attentive, acute inner dialogue.
In Roberto Coin’s atelier, there is a continued commitment to respecting traditions while mastering technological advancement. Artisans are the keepers of ancient secrets that they hold in their quickmoving fingers.
In Roberto Coin’s atelier, there is a continued commitment to respecting traditions while mastering technological advancement. Artisans are the keepers of ancient secrets that they hold in their quick-moving fingers. At a glance, setting a diamond may look like a simple feat but anyone who tries to do it soon realizes the extreme complexity of the process. On the other hand, technology continues to advance quickly towards horizons that were unimaginable even just a few years earlier. Knowing how to change is a talent, being able to do so in the noble, rigorous world of fine jewelry requires a constant effort. It’s the translation of intentions to gestures, a way of thinking that only unfettered, creative minds possess, and ultimately, it is indeed a work of balance.
‹‹
To be able to make something antique and something else new, something never made before, in the same day and in the same project, is the rule of the future. It’s why we can often find a white-haired artisan sitting beside a very young technician, engaged in an exchange of ideas that will lead them to a final result.
For Roberto Coin, this result is always the creation of a piece of jewelry, of a collection or of an entire line that he has designed and that must become precious matter, perfectly wearable, eternal in its quality and intense in its beauty and the emotion it inspires.
It’s no surprise that the artisans who make jewelry in Italy are considered artists.
“Knowing how to change is a talent, being able to do so in the noble, rigorous world of fine jewelry requires a constant effort.”
AMANDA LEVETE
THE ART OF REINVENTING SPACES EL ARTE DE REINVENTAR ESPACIOS
BY EVA DEL AMO
“Architect Amanda Levete is redefining the way we live and experience spaces”
Architect Amanda Levete is redefining the way we live and experience spaces. Born in the UK, her interest in how environments can influence everyday life led her to study architecture, and she quickly excelled at masterfully combining technical rigour with inexhaustible creativity. During her training, Levete absorbed the influences of the great architects of all eras, convinced that architecture is not simply building, but a way of telling stories. With her characteristic determination, she set out to explore new territories and, after working in various studios, decided to set up her own firm, AL_A, which allowed her to translate her vision of innovation and beauty into her own projects.
INSPIRING SPACES
Many of AL_A’s buildings have become synonymous with avant-garde design. Among the firm’s most emblematic works is the Victoria and Albert Museum Exhibition Road Quarter project in London. In this ambitious project, Levete faced the challenge of reinterpreting one of the world’s most iconic museums while respecting its impressive history. Her technical proposal succeeded in transforming the building by incorporating a new courtyard and an underground gallery, allowing natural light to interact with the space in an almost magical way. The entrance, crowned by an imposing roof, is a clear example of how an architectural element can surprise and captivate, creating an atmosphere in which each visitor is immersed in a unique experience that goes beyond a simple cultural visit. Another of the architect’s outstanding projects is the Central Embassy Tower in Bangkok
‹‹
(Thailand), a multifunctional complex that uniquely combines a shopping centre with a luxury hotel. This building is not just a commercial space, but a true sculpture in motion, where curves and futuristic aesthetics create a sensory experience for visitors. The design of the Central Embassy thus evokes the image of an infinite loop, integrating open and closed spaces in a precise balance. This project demonstrates Levete’s ability to adapt her architectural language to different cultures and urban contexts.
IN TOUCH WITH THE ENVIRONMENT
Amanda Levete’s work is also internationally recognised for the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) in Lisbon, located in the historic district of Santa Maria de Belém. This building is a masterpiece that blends architecture and landscape, blurring the boundaries between the city, the Tagus River and the sky. Its undulating design, inspired by the waves, creates a connection between the museum and its surroundings, inviting visitors not only to walk inside but also to climb up to the rooftop, which offers spectacular views of the city and the river.
The MAAT is a perfect example of Levete’s philosophy: architecture that is not imposing, but in dialogue with its surroundings. Its three-dimensional tiled façade reflects the shifting light throughout the day, giving the building an everchanging appearance. Inside, the exhibition spaces are flexible and adapt to different exhibitions. With this project, Levete has created not only a museum, but also an architectural landmark, both in the cultural sphere and the profile of the
city and in its relationship with nature. If there is one aspect that truly distinguishes Amanda Levete, it is her transversal approach that makes each project a global experience. It is not just about choosing innovative materials or applying cuttingedge construction techniques, but about designing spaces that improve people’s quality of life.
Her work is characterised by a creative use of different materials which, in combination with light, create organic scenarios that seem to be alive. Levete’s architecture is designed so that the user feels a direct connection with the surrounding space, making each building both aesthetic and functional.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
The work of Amanda Levete, winner of the prestigious Jame Drew Award in 2018, is not limited to iconic buildings, but extends to a design philosophy in which each space is a combination of tradition and modernity. Her ability to integrate historical elements with contemporary solutions becomes a metaphor for how architecture can act as a bridge between different eras and cultures. In this way, every project the architect designs is a commitment to innovation, without losing sight of the context and the need to respond to today’s demands for sustainability and functionality.
Amanda Levete’s legacy inspires a new generation of architects. Her work invites us to rethink the way we inhabit our spaces, urging us to see the city not as a collection of isolated buildings, but as a living organism in constant evolution. In this way, Levete shows us that architecture is much more than the construction of buildings. It is a discipline that, when conceived with passion and precision, as in her case, has the power to transform the way we see the world and the way we live in it. Her legacy is a call not to conform to the status quo and a reminder of our ability to reinvent the everyday. This is precisely what makes her work so special and places it in a privileged position on the international architectural scene. In a world that demands intelligent, beautiful and inspiring solutions, Levete’s vision has already left an indelible mark on the history of architecture.

A LUMINOUS BREATH
Composed by House perfumer Delphine Jelk, the fragrance contained in this exceptional bottle is an original perfume creation, specially designed to celebrate Eid. L’Heure Dorée embodies all the oriental soul of this festival, opening with luminous and spicy cardamom notes. After this vibrant, almost sunny freshness, its heart welcomes a majestic rose, pairing gentleness and passion. It then unfolds in an aura of warmth, beautifully enhanced by Guerlain’s beloved opopa- nine accord. Delphine Jelk references the amber in the legendary Shalimar as a source of inspiration in “a new sensuality with cardamom, sugar, coco- nut and sandalwood”. This unique fragrance blend reveals a mysterious and sensual sillage, a real invitation to spiritual retreat and contemplation. L’Heure Dorée’s sillage instantly conjures up a world of light, in which tradition and modernity intertwine in perfect harmony, like a luminous breath captured in a bottle..
EXCEPTIONAL ART PIECE SHALIMAR 100TH ANNIVERSARY

A century of travel, mystery and daring. A perfumery icon, Shalimar is celebrating its centenary in 2025. For this exceptional anniversary, Guerlain has collaborated with the Franco-Brazilian artist Janaïna Milheiro – a virtuoso of contemporary featherwork – to magnify its legendary bottle with a masterful adornment. Artisanal expertise and creative brilliance meet in an encounter where shimmering feathers reinvent the lushness of the gardens and the flamboyance of Frida Kahlo, a devotee of Shalimar and the source of inspiration for this unique creation. More than a limited numbered edition, this opus goes beyond the legend, elevating Shalimar to the rank of an olfactory work of art.
AN AGE-OLD BOTTLE, A JEWEL OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
In the beginning, there was a bottle: Guerlain’s legendary Bee Bottle, designed by Maison Pochet du Courval. The embodiment of exceptional glassmaking know-how, every detail of this objet d’art bears witness to an artisanal tradition that spans the centuries without ever losing its modernity. Since 1623, this illustrious House has epitomised craftsmanship excellence, combining tradition and innovation in the production of exceptional bottles. Drawing on four centuries of history, Pochet du Courval has genuine expertise in the art of bottle- making, making glass an exceptional material. The heirs of a profession passed down from one gene- ration to the next, the glass blowers infuse each creation with their mastery, sculpting with a fas- cinating precision forms that are streamlined and complex in equal measure.
Once again, the Bee Bottle created in 1853 for the marriage of Empress Eugénie de Montijo to Napoleon III has been reinvented in a finely gilded bees edi- tion unprecedented at Guerlain. In homage to Eid al-Fitr, the legendary glass bottle is adopting a sumptuous velvet attire that celebrates the pearl.
This daring creation embodies the subtle fusion between Fine Perfumery and artistic craftsmanship.

THE LATEST TREND - THE RONQUEO EXPERIENCE: LA ZAMBRA RESORT JOINS IN THE TUNA FESTIVAL
The traditional Spanish ‘ronqueo’, or tuna cutting ceremony, is all the rage. For those who like to try new experiencesand enjoy good food, watching a 200–300 kg specimen being cut up live provides a unique chance to sample a variety of tuna-based dishes.
The five-star La Zambra Resort Mijas took part in the tuna festival, welcoming a team from Balfegó – a leading fishing company which is specialised in the capture, study and commercialisation of bluefin tuna. The team explained to guests the different parts of a tuna, how they are cooked and how they can be prepared. The Mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, and her husband did not want to miss out on the event, which, despite the heat, was a great success.
JENNIFER LOPEZ: MANILA SHAWL, GUITAR AND FLAMENCO ON HER RETURN TO THE COSTA DEL SOL
Jennifer Lopez, ‘JLo’, returned to the Costa del Sol after a six-year absence from Málaga. She wanted to put on the best possible show at her Marenostrum Fuengirola concert, for which she wore a Manila shawl and danced to the rhythm of a Spanish guitar and percussion box – a clear nod to local culture. The concert was a resounding success with the audience. The diva from the Bronx danced non-stop throughout the two-hour show, proving that she can fill any stage, no matter how large. However, she barely spoke in Spanish and only sang a couple of songs in this language, which the mainly national audience did not appreciate.
SIERRA BLANCA FOUNDATION SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN NEED
Sierra Blanca Foundation held the second edition of its charity gala, raising half a million euros thanks to the generosity of the more than 400 guests in attendance. These included renowned figures such as the Malaga-born actor Antonio Banderas, footballers Arbeloa and Lorente, and the adaptive surfing champion, Sarah Almagro. The gala’s success was also thanks to those who donated experiences to be auctioned off, such as a stay in a luxury villa in a South African nature reserve. Donors included tennis players Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic, as well as footballer Kylian Mbappé. “We can’t solve all the world’s problems, but we want to show solidarity and give hope to children in need,” said Pedro Rodríguez, trustee of the foundation and real estate developer.
THIRD LAMBORGHINI DEALERSHIP IN SPAIN OPENS IN MARBELLA
Lamborghini has opened a new dealership in Marbella – the third in Spain – adding to its existing establishments in Madrid and Barcelona. This new opening “enables us to continue expanding our network in Spain and southern Europe,” explained Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann at the inauguration of the dealership, located in the iconic Puerto Banús. Spanning 270 m2, the showroom features some of the Italian firm’s most iconic models, including the new ‘Temerario’. The Lamborghini showroom has been designed to become a landmark destination in southern Spain for clients and enthusiasts of the brand.
MARBELLA DESALINATION PLANT READY TO COMBAT THE DROUGHT
The Marbella desalination plant is now operational, following improvement works costing around eight million euros and completed in record time. Although it had the capacity to desalinate up to 20 cubic hectometres of water per year – enough to fill 20 Real Madrid stadiums – it had become obsolete and was only operating at a third of its designed capacity. Maintaining optimum conditions for the infrastructure serving this important tourist and economic region is crucial, especially in times of low rainfall. “Without water, there’s no future,” said Juanma Moreno, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, emphasising the need for a forward-looking approach to water policy. A third of the Costa del Sol’s water needs can now be met by the production of water from the Marbella desalination plant.
THE DON CARLOS HOTEL REOPENS: A €45 MILLION EURO REFURBISHMENT AND A RAFA NADAL TENNIS CENTER
The Don Carlos Marbella Hotel, which opened in 1969, reopened its doors following a €45 million refurbishment which kept it closed for just over a year and a half. Completely redesigned by Catalan interior designer Jaime Beriestain, the hotel now offers 308 rooms, suites and residences with panoramic sea and garden views. Guests can also enjoy facilities such as the Natura Bissé Wellness Spa and the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre. This emblematic five-star hotel’s reopening in Marbella has been made possible by Selenta Group, which is part of the portfolio of the Canadian investment fund Brookfield Asset Management.
PUERTO BANÚS: A GALA OF ARAB AND CHINESE HAUTE CUISINE WITH CHEFS KHAROUF AND XIAOWEI
The Muelle de Honor in Puerto Banús hosted 300 guests at a gastronomic event which showcased the fusion of Arab and Chinese haute cuisine, as interpreted by the renowned chefs Heba Kharouf and Zhao Xiaowei. Among the attendees was Marbella’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, who highlighted the fact that the city offers ‘unique experiences’. Accompanying the mayor were the Councillor for Tourism of the Andalusian Regional Government, Arturo Bernal, and the CEO of the marina, Juan Núñez. Mr Núñez said that this type of initiative is “key to attracting visitors who are looking for excellence and to further promoting our brand.”
MARBELLA CONSOLIDATES ITS POSITION IN THE ULTRA-LUXURY RENTAL MARKET
Marbella is strengthening its position in the ultra-luxury international rental market. It is attracting a global clientele with significant purchasing power, who, until recently, had prioritised destinations such as Ibiza, the Côte d’Azur and the Greek islands. The effects of overtourism in these areas have created an opportunity for Marbella to develop a highly personalised tourism model.
“Marbella has all the requisites to become the world’s leading luxury destination: a favourable climate, privacy, connectivity and cultural and gastronomic diversity. But above all, it offers space, versatility, and an excellent quality of life,” says Luis Ponce, CEO of luxury villa rental firm Marbella Mountain Reso
RECREATIONAL SAILERS, KEY TO PROTECTING THE SEA
According to the association Marinas de Andalucía, recreational sailors play a vital role in protecting the marine and coastal environments. They often act as custodians of the sea, playing a fundamental role in the surveillance and care of these ecosystems. “We’re working hard to ensure that sustainability and respect for the marine environment become an integral part of our marinas’ identity,” states Manuel Raigón, president of Marinas de Andalucía. The association promotes training in this area in collaboration with the Fundación Aula del Mar Mediterráneo (FAMM).
A FOOTBALL MATCH TO RAISE MONEY FOR PIEL DE MARIPOSA, WITH XAVI HERNÁNDEZ ON THE PITCH
Marbella Football Center was chosen as the venue for a football match in aid of the association DEBRA Piel de Mariposa. The match saw a team of players from the legendary squad that won the 1999 Under-20 World Championship in Nigeria take on the AFE Veterans Team. Legendary footballers such as Michel Salgado, Juanito, Ballesta and Xavi Hernández took to the pitch. Before the match, AFE president David Aganzo presented Lisandro Vieytes, the Marbella Council Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Sport, with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his collaboration. Aganzo also presented Natividad Romero, coordinator of Piel de Mariposa, with a T-shirt to recognise the association’s commitment to supporting those affected by this rare and painful disease.
PAINTER LAURA CHAPLIN:
“THE LIGHT IN MARBELLA IS FANTASTIC.”
“The light in Marbella is fantastic,” says Laura Chaplin, painter and granddaughter of silent film actor Charlie Chaplin. Laura also believes that it is “one of the most cosmopolitan places in the world, where you can breathe joy.” She chose Marbella as the venue for her debut solo exhibition in Spain, which took place at the Gómez & Molina Joyeros art space from 5th to 17th July and featured around twenty pieces combining elements of figurative art, pop art and surrealism. The artist’s focus in these works is her grandfather’s most memorable on-screen character, The Tramp.
THE REBIRTH OF THE TIVOLI: A THEMED HOTEL, A FOUR-STAR HOTEL AND A SHOPPING CENTRE
A large resort with at least two hotels – a four-star hotel and a themed hotel – as well as a shopping centre, a roller coaster, two Ferris wheels, water rides, and even a free-fall attraction will bring the new Tivoli World in Benalmádena to life. While it will continue to be a great leisure space for the whole family, it will also offer more modern and innovative attractions. The future amusement park, the oldest in Andalusia, will be extended upwards rather than outwards, spanning several storeys and tripling the building potential of the property to give it a surface area of approximately 70,000 m2.
FROM MARBELLA TO THE WORLD
DR. CARLOS SAIZ
EDEFINED LUXURY IN DENTAL AESTHETICS
In a world where beauty is often filtered, retouched, and redefined by algorithms, Carlos Saiz Smile offers something entirely different: truth. Or rather, the version of ourselves that we’ve always imagined—polished, radiant, natural, but never altered.
“The smile is the most powerful non-verbal weapon we have,” says Carlos, as he adjusts his impeccably tailored blazer in his Marbella flagship. “Why should it be built on destruction?
Behind this global phenomenon is Dr. Carlos Saiz, a name whispered among European elites, celebrities, and football stars who want a perfect smile—without the trauma, the pain, or the artificial look. For over 16 years, Carlos has been a silent pioneer of a revolution: micro-veneers with zero tooth reduction. In other words, aesthetic dentistry without damage. A miracle? No. Just the outcome of a relentless pursuit of excellence.
A SILENT REVOLUTION BORN FROM A WOUND
Carlos’s story does not begin in glossy clinics or on red carpets. It begins in silence, in the discomfort of growing up different, in the pain of not fitting in. A childhood marked by psychological abuse and bullying would become the unlikely birthplace of his obsession: to help others feel seen, safe, and powerful.
“I wasn’t trying to build a dental brand,” he admits. “I was trying to create a sanctuary. A space where people walk in with shame or pain and leave feeling invincible.”
From that emotional root, the Carlos Saiz method was born: technical perfection paired with deep empathy. Every smile is designed not just for symmetry, but for identity. Each treatment is a conversation between who you were and who you’re ready to become.
NO DRILLS, NO PAIN, NO COMPROMISES
The core of Carlos’s technique is deceptively simple: ultra-thin ceramic veneers that are custom-crafted and bonded directly onto the enamel—without drilling a single millimeter.
This approach has attracted not only discerning patients but also scrutiny. Traditionalists questioned its longevity. Carlos answered with data, follow-ups, and thousands of stunning results: natural, durable smiles that age with grace.
“I respect the tooth. That’s my religion,” he states. “Aesthetic dentistry should enhance, not mutilate.”
Today, clients fly from Los Angeles, Dubai, and Stockholm to one of his three clinics—Madrid, Barcelona, and Marbella— for a smile that doesn’t shout “veneers.” It whispers, “I’ve always looked this good.”
A BRAND BUILT ON CRAFT AND CONSCIOUSNESS
Beyond the medical mastery lies the Carlos Saiz experience: a luxury brand born from craftsmanship, discretion, and emotional intelligence.
Every patient begins their journey with a design consultation. Not with digital filters or aggressive sales tactics, but with storytelling. Who are you? What do you want to project? Where are you hiding behind your teeth?
The answers become the blueprint for a transformation so subtle, so bespoke, it almost feels like magic. But it’s not magic. It’s Italian ceramics, Swiss technology, and a Spanish obsession for detail.
“We don’t work with cookie-cutter templates. Each piece is handmade by top international ceramists. There’s no outsourcing, no shortcuts.”
THE FACES THAT TRUST HIM
While discretion is part of the allure, some names have inevitably escaped the velvet rope of confidentiality.
Sergio Ramos, Fermín López (FC Barcelona), and Conor Gallagher (Chelsea FC) are just a few of the highprofile athletes who have entrusted their smiles—and reputations—to Carlos Saiz Smile.
“They don’t just come for the smile. They come for the silence, the privacy, the precision,” Carlos notes. “In this world, trust is the ultimate currency.”
MORE THAN A CLINIC: A LEGACY
With over 568,000 Instagram followers and a digital presence that blends minimalism with magnetic storytelling, Carlos has built a universe. But he’s not stopping there. “The future includes international franchising, an elite academy to train aesthetic dentists worldwide, and a commitment to supporting youth who, like him once, feel invisible.”
“I don’t want to be remembered for beautiful smiles,” he reflects. “I want to be remembered for helping people come home to themselves.”
THE FINAL TOUCH
What makes a smile timeless? In the world of Carlos Saiz, it’s the absence of trend. No exaggerated whites. No fake symmetries. Just the natural expression of the best version of you, respectfully enhanced.
It’s not vanity. It’s agency.
It’s not a smile. It’s your signature.

At Andala Marbella pleasure is born from a creative, seasonal kitchen deeply rooted in Andalusian tradition, paired with excellent craftsmanship and high-quality ingredients.
Andala Marbella offers an exceptional culinary experience with exquisite gourmet tapas and dishes. Located near Marbella’s beachfront promenade, this restaurant strives to be different and to challenge the palates of its guests. A gourmet cuisine that does not deny its roots, yet looks beyond the horizon with a curious eye and allows Andalusian tradition to shine in a modern, refined light.
The restaurant features an inviting, modern space designed for comfort and style. The interior blends clean lines with warm elegance. Natural wood, soft neutral hues, and blue linen accents, along with a Mediterranean outdoor terrace, create a refined and welcoming atmosphere.
At Andala Marbella, you can taste the soul of Andalusia, but with a modern twist. It is not a place of loud staging but of quiet culinary revelation. The cooking here is not staged, but done with conviction - honest, precise and full of dedication. The dishes are down-to-earth and at the same time surprise with subtle nuances. No dish seems overloaded, everything is finely balanced. Here, pleasure is born from a creative, seasonal kitchen deeply rooted in Andalusian tradition, paired with excellent craftsmanship and high-quality ingredients. Traditional recipes are reinterpreted in a smart and balanced way, allowing the culinary heritage of Andalusia to shine through in every bite.
A CULINARY JOURNEY
The Restaurant offers Tapas and a seasonal Menu. Tapas are not just small dishes. They’re a social experience and a reflection of culture. The menu reads like a culinary journey through Andalusia, with each province represented by a signature dish. The kitchen team has created eight gourmet tapas using ingredients primarily from the featured regions, from Huelva to Almería. Granada, for example, is represented by a delicious onion soup with baby broad beans and chorizo. Jaén is represented by a delicate salad called pipirrana served with a smoked sardine, and Almería by a red “carabinero” prawn cooked with sliced garlic and small pieces of chorizo.
The kitchen team, led by chef Mirko Moscatelli, offers a unique, independent and product-oriented cuisine with just the right touch of creativity, without disguising the authentic flavours.

Dining Room Manager - Manuel
Naturally, you will not miss delicacies such as white prawns from Huelva and oxtail from Córdoba. The menu of productbased cuisine changes according to seasonal availability.
The kitchen team, led by chef Mirko Moscatelli, offers a unique, independent and product-oriented cuisine with just the right touch of creativity, without disguising the authentic flavours. Mirko is Italian and moved to Marbella 29 years ago. His parents ran a restaurant, so he practically grew up in a kitchen. Since 2004 he is working as a chef. His first focus was Italian cuisine, his family heritage, before he began working in international restaurants. For over five years, he shared the kitchen with Juan José Villlba, known as Kanuto, who was the previous chef of Andala.
A MENU FULL OF STORIES
The menu changes with the seasons, but some dishes have become beloved staples. They’re untouchable dishes and part of Andala’s history from the very beginning, such as the crispy layered potatoes with herbs and grilled garlic or the legendary slow cooked rib with andalusian barbecue sause
ANDALA MARBELLA IS MORE THAN TAPAS
Guests are encouraged to try the delicate Rib Eye Carpaccio or the Selected Andalusian Cheeseboard. Among the main courses, the slow-cooked ribs or the iberian pork marinated in miso are definitely a must-try. From spicy clams with the chef ’s special sauce to innovative combinations like the Garden section dishes, everything is tasty.
The squid might initially seem like just grilled squid, but Chef Mirko gives this dish an exciting twist, filling it with a pesto andaluz (parsley, lemon, and toasted almonds), and serving it with garlic confit, preserving an authentic Andalusian feel.
The steamed bacalao is served with a panko crust and Andalusian Verdial olives, along with a fresh herb mix, a topping that adds freshness and evokes Andalusia. Chef Mirko has also renewed the tapas menu. Jaén is now represented by a delicious Pipirrana, a kind of salad famous in Jaén, with spiced, Moorish-style seasoning.
THE WINE LIST FOCUSES ON WINES FROM ANDALUSIA
The wine list reflects the restaurant’s concept, focusing on Andalusian wines, with exciting discoveries from small bodegas and natural organic wines that pair perfectly with the rich, flavorful Andalusian dishes. Includes are must-haves like Fino and Oloroso Sherry, as well as well-known classics from La Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
Andala Marbella is more than a restaurant, it is a living expression of Andalusian identity and the ideal place to enjoy a modern, regional offering.

CHEFS FOR CHILDREN BRINGS TOGETHER THE CULINARY ELITE IN MARBELLA FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Under the motto ‘Eating Healthy is Fun’, the seventh edition of Chefs for Children has once again brought together Spain’s culinary elite in Marbella for a worthy cause. Forty-four of Spain’s 65 Michelin-starred chefs have joined forces to demonstrate the charitable side of haute cuisine, lending their support to the DiabetesCERO foundation in its quest to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. This condition currently affects one in every 42 families in Spain. In the country, between 1,200 and 1,500 children under the age of 15 are diagnosed with diabetes every year, and patients and their families must learn to live with this chronic condition. For these children and their families, food is paramount. However, as Sandra Campina, the foundation’s director general, explains, “There’s no specific diet for diabetics, but rather a way of relating to food.”
DANI GARCÍA, IZU ANI AND NOBU COOK IN AID OF THE RED CROSS AT PUENTE ROMANO
The first edition of ‘Culinary Icons’, a charity event organised by the five-star Puente Romano Marbella to raise money for the Spanish Red Cross, saw three-Michelin-starred Málaga chef Dani García take centre stage alongside Gaia creator Izu Ani and Nobu Group founder Nobu Matsuhisa. Against the backdrop of the recently renovated Bar La Plaza – a space that blends the essence of an Andalusian square with the hotel’s contemporary spirit – the three chefs gave a live cooking demonstration, preparing some of their most iconic dishes. As anticipated, Nobu’s menu featured two classic Japanese ricebased dishes featuring raw fish: tuna morrillo nigiri and tuna and caviar maki. Izu Ani, a Nigerian chef based in Dubai, opted for tuna tataki with truffle and a red tuna cone with caviar, and the Marbella chef prepared a wild tuna parpatana with celeriac and turnip purée.

JUAN ANTONIO MEDINA
EXECUTIVE CHEF OF TATEL RESTAURANT
TATEL is much more than a restaurant; it’s an experience where haute Spanish cuisine is fused with music, ambiance, and a cosmopolitan spirit. Today, we have the honor of interviewing its Executive Chef, Juan Antonio Medina, a key figure in this international gastronomic concept with a Spanish soul.
Juan Antonio, you have worked in high-level kitchens for years. What led you to take on the TATEL project?
The time came to embrace a new challenge. TATEL offered me a project with ambitious plans at both national and international levels: it wasn’t just a restaurant, but a concept that united gastronomy, culture, and experience. I found the idea of leading a project where I could apply everything I’d learned during my career – while continuing to grow –incredibly motivating.
At TATEL there is a balance between tradition and modernity that truly resonates with me, and the opportunity to work with such a committed and passionate team was the key that made me take the leap.
How would you define TATEL’s culinary concept?
TATEL has an identity and personality from the very moment you step through the door. It’s a restaurant that, for ten years, has proven it was the pioneer in defining a concept that creates trends and has been widely replicated – one where gastronomy, dining service, mixology, and entertainment go hand in hand. Its current positioning in the market, its clientele, and its ability to generate sales, all while maintaining sustainability, underscore this success. As important as the journey is the destination we have set for ourselves: to become a true icon of the Marca España (the Spanish brand). We aim to identify the fundamental elements needed as we continue to showcase and refine a global concept for a brand like TATEL.
What would you say is the restaurant’s signature dish?
It’s very hard to choose just one, but if I had to highlight one as our signature, I’d say the TATEL Escalope is probably the most representative. It’s a dish that surprises with its apparent simplicity, but behind it lies a very refined technique, high-quality meat, and a simple presentation that makes it truly unique. Guests seek it out, recommend it to others, and ultimately it becomes part of the quintessential TATEL experience we want to convey: dishes that respect tradition, but with a contemporary twist.
What is a typical day like in a kitchen like TATEL’S?
A typical day is intense but very rewarding; every day you’re writing your own book of memories. The day starts with receiving ingredients – from fish and meats to seasonal vegetables. The morning team arrives and begins station by station with the mise en place, which is fundamental atTATEL since the kitchen runs continuously. Service usually starts slowly, and each station’s head chef is very clear about their role within the internal organization needed to handle such high volumes of guests. But beyond the demands, there’s a very close-knit team, and you can feel it in the atmosphere. We know that we aren’t just cooking dishes; we’re crafting an experience for every guest who sits at our table.
You have worked in great restaurants in Spain – Zalacaín, Arzak, El Racó de Can Fabes, El Bulli – and in Italy at Dal Pescatore. What lessons did you bring to TATEL from those experiences?
Each of those experiences taught me something that now forms part of who I am and how I work with my teams. At Zalacaín, I learned the core values of this profession. At Arzak, I learned creativity and the evolving art of conveying gastronomy’s cultural values. At El Racó de Can Fabes, I learned the absolute respect for ingredients and the honesty of great mountain cuisine. At El Bulli, I learned organization, working methods, and the very essence of innovation – never taking anything for granted. And at Italy’s Dal Pescatore, I saw family-style cooking elevated to excellence, with a perfect balance between tradition and technique. All of those lessons I carry with me and try to pass on at every TATEL location: from product quality to attention to detail and the overall customer experience. In the end, all those years of experience shape my way of understanding the kitchen and leading teams.
TATEL is present in different cities around the world. How do you maintain a common identity among such diverse locations?
The key is to have a very well-defined identity and a team aligned with that vision. At TATEL, we know who we are and what we want to convey: a cuisine rooted in Spain (Marca España), an experience cared for in every detail, and an atmosphere that is elegant and vibrant. We understand that each city has its own rhythm, culture, and clientele. That’s why, even though we maintain a common base in terms of menu, service, and style, we also adapt with subtle local touches: seasonal ingredients, nods to the tastes of each place… In this way, we achieve that TATEL is recognizable anywhere in the world, but never an exact copy. This combination of consistency and flexibility is what allows us to grow without losing our soul.
How important are the ambiance and experience in TATEL’s overall concept?
The atmosphere and overall experience are just as important as the cuisine or good service. We strive to ensure that the guest experiences something different. From the moment you step in, the lighting, live music, the team’s attentiveness, and the energy of the space are all designed to create a complete experience. Every detail is carefully considered so that the guest feels they’re in a special place, all conveyed in a single, unified style. It’s that balance between the sensory, the emotional, and the culinary that defines TATEL’s proposal.
What advice would you give to young chefs who dream of running a kitchen at this level?
My advice is to accumulate experience, patience, humility, and a lot of passion. This profession demands sacrifice, consistency, and a great capacity to learn. It’s not just about cooking well – it’s about understanding how a kitchen operates, how to lead a team, how to handle pressure and learn to rise above it, and how to earn respect.Every step counts, from the simplest preparation to running a full service. Don’t rush to get there, because each experience adds up and you should never lose your sense of wonder. Kitchens are full of magic; they change all the time, and that’s what makes them so exciting. If you work with honesty and surround yourself with good mentors, the path will come naturally.
How do you see the future of Spanish cuisine on the international stage?
The future remains very promising. Spanish cuisine and Spanish chefs have earned a place of respect in the world, not only because of their products and traditions, but because of their capacity for innovation. The most valuable thing is that we’re not talking about a single cuisine, but many cuisines within one country: from haute gastronomy to the most popular offerings, all with identity and roots.
The challenge now is to continue evolving without losing our essence and to honor our traditions. Sustainability, local and seasonal ingredients, research, and the reinterpretation of tradition will be key. As long as there is passion, curiosity, and commitment – like those we see emerging today – Spain will continue setting trends.
What challenges does the opening of Villa Tatel in Marbella next year present?
For TATEL, establishing ourselves in Marbella’s Golden Mile has been a goal we have pursued for many years. Being able to do so in such an iconic venue as Villa Tiberio is truly an honour and a great responsibility. We are deeply excited about this new chapter and the opportunity to become part of an area that is so emblematic of the city’s gastronomic and social scene.

OPENS IN MARBELLA - GOLDEN MILE’S FIRST AND ONLY ROOFTOP
Cielo is the rooftop expression of the Italian love affair at the heart of Florentine, now lifted to the skies above the original concept. It is the newest addition to the Florentine portfolio, created to offer a different rhythm, always with the same soul.

In May, this bold new concept opened its doors and sets a new standard for rooftop dining on the Golden Mile. As the first and only rooftop venue in the entire Golden Mile district, it introduces a completely new perspective on dining in Marbella, where Mediterranean flavours, striking design, and vibrant energy come together under open skies. Florentine, the landmark restaurant that houses Cielo, is located inside Forum shopping mall, perfectly positioned between Marbella Club Hotel and Puente Romano Beach Resort. This stretch of the Golden Mile is currently one
of Europe’s most sought-after destinations, known for its luxury, lifestyle, and international appeal. Cielo is not simply an extension of Florentine; it is a standalone concept within the Florentine portfolio. While Florentine evokes the timeless elegance of 1970s Italy through its refined trattoria experience, Cielo marks the point where the rhythm picks up and the atmosphere shifts, built for movement, celebration, and golden hour energy. Cielo offers a different perspective on the same Italian spirit designed for the rooftop, with a new menu, a new mood, and a new kind of magic.

THE SUPREME COURT INCREASES ITS REQUIREMENTS REGARDING
BANKING CYBERSECURITY
BY SANTIAGO DE LA CRUZ
In its recent judgment 571/2025 of April 9th 2025, the Supreme Court has ruled on a case that is increasingly recurrent in today’s banking practice.
An organised group of hackers obtained the access credentials to a customer’s online banking account, the victim of a “phishing” attack (criminals tricked the victim into revealing confidential information—such as passwords, bank details or personal data—by posing as legitimate entities, thereby impersonating their identity).
Subsequently, using SIM swapping techniques, they duplicated his SIM card and took control of his phone number, which allowed them to intercept the verification codes necessary to complete several high-value bank transfers.
The bank, upon receiving the corresponding complaint from the customer, denied responsibility on the grounds that the transactions had been validly authenticated using the usual mechanisms—username, password and verification codes—and therefore, it claimed there was no failure in its security systems.
However, both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the customer, ordering the bank to repay the stolen amounts—a
significant development that will lead to the necessary reinforcement of the cybersecurity requirements of banks. In this judgment, the Supreme Court emphasised that the mere correct entry of the customer’s credentials cannot simply constitute sufficient proof of authentication under the standards required by Article 7 of Royal Decree-Law 19/2018, of 23 November, on payment services.
As a consequence, the ruling introduces an additional requirement for banks that must not only implement strong authentication systems but also effectively monitor the transactional behaviour of the customer so that anomalous transactions can be detected and subjected to additional verification measures.
The Court noted that, in this case, the transfers were carried out from an unfamiliar IP address to non-recurring beneficiaries and for amounts significantly higher than the customer’s usual transactions. In the Court’s opinion, this series of warning signs was sufficient to trigger security alerts, and the bank should have either suspended the transactions or requested explicit confirmation from the holder by alternative channels.
The ruling also stresses the need for banks to adopt proactive measures
“In summary, this Judgement No. 571/2025 establishes a doctrine that offers greater protection to banking customers in the face of digital threats”
Santiago de la Cruz
against known fraud. Both phishing and SIM swapping are widespread and documented techniques, with respect to which banks have a reinforced duty of vigilance, prevention and reaction. This resolution constitutes a significant precedent that will probably set the course for future litigation in this area of our system. Notably, it places a greater burden of diligence and control on banks, moving away from the automatic validation of any transaction conducted with correct credentials.
This judgment balances the position of the client, who is often unprotected against highly sophisticated attacks, whose authorship is difficult to prove and whose prevention often exceeds his technical possibilities. Finally, the judgment carries significant implications for the burden of proof. Although the customer is formally required to demonstrate that they did not authorise the transaction, the Court recognises that once fraud has been alleged and established, the bank must prove that it exercised the required diligence and that its security system was adequate to prevent the attack. Otherwise, the bank will be held responsible for the damages suffered by the customer.
In summary, this Judgement No. 571/2025 establishes a doctrine that
offers greater protection to banking customers in the face of digital threats. Financial institutions can no longer rely solely on formal compliance with authentication protocols to avoid liability, especially when the signs of fraud are evident and reasonable preventive measures are not taken. This marks a clear advancement that translates into stronger protection for banking customers in their online operations, increased cybersecurity demands for banks, and an adaptation of our legal framework to the digital environment in which we now operate.

THE AMERICAN DREAM
Finds Its Mediterranean Home
A new chapter is unfolding on the Costa del Sol as Marbella cements its place as the preferred European haven for American luxury property buyers. This transatlantic connection has gathered remarkable momentum: the number of transactions involving Americans is now over four times higher than it was just five years ago. In 2024 alone, US buyers accounted for 2,795 property purchases across Spain — a clear sign of sustained confidence in the Spanish market.
At Engel & Völkers Marbella, we work closely with our colleagues at Engel & Völkers Americas to meet this rising demand. More and more Americans are reaching out to understand the process of buying a property in Marbella and to discover why Europe — and Marbella in particular — has become such an attractive lifestyle and investment choice.
Spain remains firmly on investors’ radars in 2025, with real estate investment forecast to grow by 15% to reach €16 billion, according to recent Auxadi analysis. Marbella, in particular, stands out thanks to its unique blend of lifestyle, sound market fundamentals and superb connectivity. Following a surge of over 30% in US buyers last year, demand for prime and new-build homes remains especially strong. Industry projections for the Costa del Sol point to further price appreciation this year — around 5–8% for resale properties and up to 12–15% for new developments — reinforcing the region’s enduring appeal. Within Marbella’s coveted Golden Triangle alone, luxury real estate investments exceeded €3 billion in 2024, and the outlook for 2025 remains equally buoyant.
A LIFESTYLE INVESTMENT WITH LASTING VALUE
American buyers bring significant purchasing power and an appetite for quality. As Reuters recently noted, US buyers tend to pay the highest prices for Spanish property — a reflection of their focus on premium residences that deliver both lifestyle rewards and resilient investment returns.
Yet the driving force behind this trend goes beyond financial considerations. Forbes named Marbella Europe’s top destination for 2024, highlighting exactly what discerning Americans are seeking: a refined lifestyle at a competitive cost. Life in Spain typically costs around 30% less than in the United States, allowing purchasing power to stretch further — from everyday dining to high-quality healthcare. Marbella’s climate adds to the appeal, offering more than 320 days of sunshine each year and a laid-back outdoor lifestyle. Its cosmopolitan infrastructure caters perfectly to international residents, with secure gated communities, excellent international schools, world-class restaurants, and direct flights

connecting the region to the US — a seamless bridge between familiar comforts and Mediterranean allure.
CONNECTING GLOBAL DEMAND WITH LOCAL INSIGHT
At Engel & Völkers Marbella, we have been privileged to witness this evolution first-hand. In just the first half of this year alone, our team has sold over €46 million worth of property to American buyers — and we have already generated 115 qualified leads from the United States. These figures highlight not only the strength of American interest but also the unique trust placed in our expertise. With more than 300 E&V offices across the United States, Engel & Völkers remains the only luxury agency in the area with this level of international reach — building a direct bridge between American buyers and Marbella’s most exclusive properties.
This unrivalled network allows us to provide insights that span continents, ensuring every client benefits from local know-how underpinned by global connections.
The numbers tell a compelling story: American interest in Marbella is not a passing trend but a structural shift towards lifestyle-driven investment, where quality of life and solid returns align. For discerning American buyers, Marbella represents not only a property purchase but a long-term commitment to a better way of living.
Looking ahead, 2025 is set to be another landmark year for American investment in Marbella. At Engel & Völkers Marbella, our unrivalled network of high-net-worth clients and deep connections across the US mean we can offer opportunities far beyond a typical transaction. Whether you’re looking to secure your place in Europe’s most prestigious coastal destination or explore strategic investment options, our team is ready to help you turn your American dream into a Mediterranean reality.

EL CORTIJO
A REFINED DIALOGUE BETWEEN HERITAGE AND DESIGN HOW A VISIONARY RESTORATION IN LOS MONTEROS BECAME MARBELLA’S MOST COVETED ADDRESS
There are houses that whisper their stories through weathered stone and faded frescoes. Then there are properties that roar with the audacity of their vision. El Cortijo belongs to the latter—a breathtaking love letter to the Alhambra that has somehow materialized in the sun-drenched area of Los Monteros, where Marbella’s glittering coastline surrenders to something far more eternal. Step through the entrance, and time fractures. The central courtyard unfolds like a fever dream of medieval Granada— horseshoe arches march in perfect procession around a crystalline swimming pool, their ancient geometry refl ected in waters that seem to hold centuries of Andalusian sunlight. The distinctive green exposed beams overhead create shifting patterns of shadow and light, a living kaleidoscope that would make the Nasrid architects weep with envy. This is not pastiche. It is a reawakening. The double-height living room commands attention like a diva taking centre stage. The coff ered ceiling—a symphony in emerald and gold—soars overhead while contemporary masterpieces hang against walls that have witnessed the marriage of two millennia. The kitchen reads like a love poem to craftsmanship. Rosewood cabinetry, bears intricate red geometric panelling that could have been lifted from a Moorish palace. Yet beneath this historical romance lies the beating heart of modern luxury. Each of the fi ve en-suite bedrooms tells its own story, but the principal suite writes poetry. Here, sculptural textile creates an environment so sensuously tactile you want to run your fi ngers along every surface. The master bathroom is pure theatre—a dramatic arched alcove frames a contemporary freestanding bath, surrounded by geometric tilework that seems to pulse with Moorish mystique. Descend to the lower level, and discover
El Cortijo’s most contemporary secret: a fully equipped golf simulator and entertainment suite that acknowledges Marbella’s championship courses while creating an entirely new defi nition of refi ned leisure. This is where the property’s split personality becomes most apparent—ancient soul, modern heart. In an era where luxury has become synonymous with ostentation, El Cortijo off ers something infi nitely more precious: authenticity with attitude. Set within 2,600 square meters of grounds that feel like a private kingdom, protected by 24-hour security that ensures this fantasy remains uninterrupted, the property represents more than real estate—it’s a portal to an Andalusian dream that most of us only glimpse in museums. This is what happens when vision
meets execution, when heritage dances with innovation, when someone dares to ask: “What if the Alhambra had a rebellious younger sibling who moved to Marbella and never looked back?” The answer, it turns out, is magnificent.

“Virrey 3; Discover three state-of-the-art villas under construction in Lomas del Virrey, on Marbella´s Golden Mile.”
The Current State of the Luxury Real Estate Market on the Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol, with Marbella at its helm, has firmly established itself as a premier luxury destination. I’ve seen its real estate market evolve into a sophisticated blend of architectural distinction, elevated living, and strong investment appeal—consistently drawing discerning international clients and leading developers. What sets us apart is the combination of exceptional inventory, compelling value, and steady capital appreciation. Amid global wealth migration, the region delivers exactly what affluent buyers seek: security, quality of life, and enduring value.
What Sets Sotheby’s International Realty Apart in a Competitive Landscape
An iconic brand, deeply rooted in the centuries-old legacy of the world’s most renowned auction house, it naturally embodies trust, refinement, and quality. This reputation appeals to a highly discerning clientele who value discretion and excellence. With over 1,100 offices in 84 countries and more than $157 billion in annual sales, the reach is unparalled. In Spain, we’re now under new ownership by Vivium, a Middle East-based family office, and that’s allowed us to expand our reach quite significantly. We’ve unified operations across 15 offices in Spain’s key markets and strengthened ties through
shareholding with offices in the UK, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia—regions that are major sources of buyers for this area. It’s a strategic move that makes the whole network more connected and responsive to global demand.
We collaborate with a hand-picked network of multicultural, independent real estate professionals who offer deep local knowledge, speak Spanish fluently, maintain strong connections with key stakeholders, and utilise our global network and state-of-the-art marketing tools to ensure consistently high standards of service.
On the seller’s side, Sotheby’s International Realty offers strong brand recognition that elevates a property’s perceived value by conveying exclusivity, quality, and trust to highnet-worth audiences. Its global network and affiliation with the Sotheby’s auction house provide listings with extensive visibility among qualified buyers in key luxury markets.
The Significance of Opening a Flagship Office in Marbella
The recent opening of our flagship office in Marbella’s golden mile marks a significant milestone in Spain Sotheby’s International Realty’s growth. This location reflects our longterm commitment to the region and was a natural choice for establishing a strong presence in the area.
We connect the finest properties in Marbella and Sotogrande with high-net-worth individuals worldwide, maintaining the
highest standards of discretion and professionalism. Our focus lies on the secondary home market and off-market listings, providing clients with exclusive, confidential opportunities, while partnering closely with leading developers to promote new projects and branded residences globally.
Supported by our global network, we provide seamless access to prime residential markets around the world and ensure a consistent experience regardless of location.
The Evolving Profile of Luxury Property Buyers
Buyers today are more informed, discerning, and focused on longterm strategy rather than immediate urgency. This evolution reflects a maturing market where quality and value take precedence over rapid sales. High-profile clients are increasingly avoiding overexposure online and flashy marketing, preferring instead a more discreet, stealth approach, targeting a limited, carefully chosen audience to maintain confidentiality and exclusivity. This is where we excel.
Challenges Facing the Luxury Real Estate Sector in the Region We currently face two key challenges: a lack of regulation and pricing misalignment.
Regarding regulation, the market operates with limited oversight, which allows many underqualified and inexperienced agents to work freely. This often leads to overpromising and inconsistent service, damaging the industry´s reputation and discouraging clients. Implementing a formal licensing system and stricter enforcement would raise professional standards and protect the market’s integrity.
In this context, the Leading Property Agents of Spain (LPA) plays a vital role. By promoting ethical practices, encouraging collaboration among reputable agencies, and enhancing market transparency, the LPA is instrumental in professionalising the sector and rebuilding trust with buyers and investors
On pricing, we frequently see a considerable gap between initial listing prices and final sale prices, highlighting a disconnect between seller expectations and the current market reality. With ongoing economic uncertainty, this gap could widen. Sellers with unreasonable price expectations risk losing buyer interest and longer time on the market.
Advice for Investing in Luxury Property on the Costa del Sol and Sotogrande
Begin by choosing a reputable agent with proven local expertise and an established physical office. Trust is paramount—visit the agency in person to assess both the environment and the people.
A knowledgeable agent will expertly navigate the market, offer access to exclusive opportunities, and oversee thorough due diligence throughout the process.
Prioritise professionals who uphold strict ethical standards, understand the legal and fiscal landscape, are fluent in the local language, and possess the experience necessary to manage the market’s complexities—ensuring smooth and secure advisory services.

The sun slowly sinks over the Cantabrian Sea as the Costa Verde Express leisurely rolls out of Ferrol station. The soft clatter of the wheels is accompanied by a golden glow reflecting off the gleaming wood of the nostalgic carriages. This is the beginning of a journey that not only leads through northern Spain, but also back in time.
COMFORT AND SOPHISTICATION OF A HOTEL ON RAILS
The Costa Verde Express stylishly combines comfort, culture, nostalgia, and scenic beauty. The day begins with a rich breakfast in the elegant dining car. Guided bus excursions are scheduled daily.
In the stylish restaurants along the route, some of which are Michelin-starred, as well as in the train’s onboard kitchen, the diversity of northern Spanish cuisine is celebrated at the highest level. Head chef Nerea Garcia and cook Damian Alende offer gourmet cuisine deeply rooted in the culinary traditions of each region, paired with modern creativity and high-quality ingredients.
Sardines in pepper tapenade, shrimp with apple vinaigrette, Zamburiñas ceviche, Lagareiro-style octopus, turbot with asparagus and mushrooms, suckling pig confit, as well as Tarta de Santiago and Tarta de Asturias turn the journey into a culinary exploration.
Maître Elena Perez ensures that wines from the respective regions are always perfectly paired with each dish. On some evenings, live music is performed. One night the piano plays in the bar car, while another night a violinist creates a delightful atmosphere.
Lovingly restored in the style of the 1920s, the carriages are a tribute to the golden era of rail travel. Spanish cava is served in the salon car as the lush green landscapes of Asturias unfold outside. Apple orchards, cows grazing in pastures, and the rugged peaks of the Picos de Europa pass by on the horizon.
LUXURY MEETS AN INCOMPARABLE LANDSCAPE AND CULTURE
Northern Spain is considered a hidden gem for lovers of peaceful nature, historic towns, and culinary diversity.
The journey begins in Santiago de Compostela, the spiritual center of Galicia and the endpoint of the famous Camino de Santiago. Among pilgrims with heavy backpacks, you can find quiet moments in the square in front of the famous cathedral, where the remains of the Apostle James are kept. The old town enchants with lively squares and rich gastronomy.
The next day features Ribadeo, with an excursion to the spectacular natural beach Playa de las Catedrales and its bizarre rock formations. The town itself is charming, with narrow streets and cozy cafés. The picturesque port town of Luarca, the “white city on the green coast,” is the next stop, followed by Gijón. The wide city beach Playa de San Lorenzo, excellent cuisine, and a relaxed atmosphere make the stay a special experience.
In Oviedo, the aroma of roasted coffee wafts through the charming old town lanes. The capital of Asturias impresses with medieval architecture and unique sights like the pre-Romanesque churches
Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo. Here, one enjoys the hearty Fabada, a typical regional bean stew, ideally with Sidra, the traditional apple cider.
Another highlight is the Picos de Europa National Park with the Santuario de Covadonga. This sacred place with its impressive cave chapel, Santa Cueva, is closely linked to Spanish history, particularly the beginning of the Christian reconquest. In Santillana del Mar, one dives deep into history and culture. The Neocueva Museum of Altamira houses a replica of the famous cave with its Stone Age paintings.
In Santander, travelers encounter a mix of elegance and maritime lifestyle. The coastal city captivates with fine sandy beaches and historic charm. On a peninsula stands the Palacio de la Magdalena, telling stories of a royal past.
As the train slowly arrives in Bilbao, there’s a hint of farewell in the air – yet the city offers a grand finale. The Guggenheim Museum, with its spectacular architecture, symbolizes modern Basque Country. The old town, with its many sights, is ideal for enjoying both culinary and cultural offerings.
A JOURNEY WITHOUT HASTE
Traveling aboard the Costa Verde Express means not only traveling through breathtaking landscape but through the soul of northern Spain. It is a slow-paced journey that immerses you deeply in the region’s history, culture, and lifestyle, leaving you with the feeling of having discovered a different, more authentic Spain. In addition to this six-day trip, RENFE also offers an eightday route to San Sebastián with the El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo. And with the Tren Al Andalus, Andalusia can be explored in style on rails in seven days from Granada to Seville.

One of the most beloved figures of the 20th century, Diana’s life continues to inspire admiration. She left an indelible mark on the worlds of fashion, culture and the British monarchy, ensuring her memory remains vivid to this day.
Diana Spencer was born in 1961 into a British noble family. Her earliest photographs reveal her to be a shy yet determined individual, hinting at this behind a slight smile and an absolutely captivating gaze. An intelligent woman with a passion for dance, sport and classical music, Diana endeared herself to those who knew her long before she was discovered by the world. The early images of her as a teenager, taken before she was in the international spotlight, contrast with those that would follow soon after. Her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 was a global event. More than 750 million people watched the young bride walk down the aisle in her fairytale dress. Although the ceremony promised eternal happiness, it concealed insurmountable cracks.
Despite facing immense pressure, Diana refused to be defined by her role as consort. Instead, she gradually forged her own path, winning the admiration of the British public and people around the world with her approachability and empathy. Her dedication to humanitarian causes cemented her status as a distinctive and relevant figure. A particularly poignant moment came during her visit to Angola in 1997, when she walked through a minefield wearing a protective visor and bulletproof vest to symbolise her fight to ban landmines.
SPEAKING THROUGH GESTURES
The birth of her sons marked a turning point in the Princess’s life. Considered her most precious
legacy, Princes William and Harry were raised by an affectionate, fun-loving mother who was hands-on and wanted them to enjoy a normal, happy childhood. Images of the three of them enjoying themselves at an amusement park, or of the Princess taking part in school activities reveal her attempts at royal motherhood, which were far removed from the strictures of the British monarchy.
However, Diana of Wales did not have an easy time during her years as part of the British royal family. Despite her public smiles, she suffered greatly from her husband’s infidelity with Camilla Parker Bowles, which caused her to start expressing herself through her clothes. Her famous ‘revenge dress’, the black gown she wore after Charles admitted to his affair, became a symbol of dignity and empowerment. It was more than just a display of her style – it was a statement about her inner strength.
Free from the constraints of royalty, Diana embarked on an intense love affair with Dodi Al-Fayed. Images of the couple on holiday, looking relaxed and happy, stood in stark contrast to the palatial rigidity to which Diana was accustomed. Their tragic deaths in a Paris accident in 1997 shocked the world.
MORE ALIVE THAN EVER
However, Diana’s legacy lives on. Dozens of books have been written about her life, and she has also been honoured in films and TV
series. The Netflix series The Crown dedicated several episodes to her, reflecting on her youth, marriage and her struggle against the establishment and the demands of public life. Naomi Watts played her in the 2013 film Diana, while Kristen Stewart received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Diana in the 2021 film Spencer, which offers an intimate glimpse into the life of a woman trapped in a gilded cage.
The following year, Netflix released The Princess, a documentary featuring archive footage which reconstructs Diana’s life. Offering a first-hand account of Diana’s magnetism, it explores the impact she had on the media, politics, royalty and millions of people around the world.
Diana’s legacy in terms of charity work is also very much alive. At a time when the disease was still highly stigmatised, she allowed herself to be photographed with AIDS patients, as well as with sick children, lepers and the homeless. Many of the charities she helped raise awareness of are still active today, inspired by her example. Her son, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, also continue her work, which includes strong involvement in social projects, recalling Diana’s compassion.
Diana was a free spirit who refused to conform. The indomitable essence of the ‘People’s Princess’, who remained true to herself until the very end, continues to shine brightly and leave an indelible mark.
“Despite facing immense pressure, gradually forged her own path, winning the admiration of the British public and people around the world with her approachability and empathy.”
THE DUKE OF SEVILLE WHO PUT MARBELLA ON THE MAP
The 5th Duke of Seville left this world in the same way he lived: with his eyes fixed on his nearest and dearest. Many posthumous tributes have been paid to the nobleman who put Marbella on the map.
TEXT: AMPARO DE LA GAMA
In an interview with ELM Exclusive Life Magazine just a few months before his death, he told us that he defined himself as “someone who always tried to do their duty and carry the name of Spain with them wherever they resided.”
During the final years of his life, he divided his time between Madrid and Marbella. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, walking by the sea, sailing: he would talk about how he had crossed the Atlantic Ocean twice in a sailboat; skiing, polo, archaeology and art.
The duke was of the philosophy that it was easier to accept death and not dwell on it than to live with the constant fear that it could come at any time and not focus on living. The death of his brother, Alfonso de Borbón, just ten days earlier, had affected him greatly and filled him with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia.
He had already experienced other significant losses in his life, including the deaths of his daughter Cristina, and the mother of his children, Beatriz de Borbón. This time, the Grim Reaper
appeared furtively, with Olivia, the legal heir to the Duchy of Seville, holding the duke’s hand as he departed. The title granted by King Ferdinand VII in 1823 to his nephew Enrique de Borbón will continue to be held by Enrique’s descendants, who are related to King Felipe VI. Paco, as he was known to those of us who loved him, did not want to leave without capturing his life story in his book ‘Cuasi memorias’.
We presented it at Trocadero Arena during the Foro de Encuentros con la Cultura, where he opened up, sharing anecdotes from his intense and passionate life, sometimes marked by greatness and sometimes by misfortune.
“I had no intention of writing anything,” he pointed out in our last interview, “but my friends, hearing about my travels around the world and the relationships I’ve had, encouraged me to write these quasi-memoirs. I’ve written them from the heart, despite my memory no longer being what it was, in the hope that my children and grandchildren will see what life was like in the era in which I’ve lived.”
“Paco, as he was known to those of us who loved him, did not want to leave without capturing his life story in his book ‘Cuasi memorias’
“Everyone who knew him praised his strong sense of duty, which he always carried out to the letter. In his memoirs, he portrays his children in different passages of the book”
Everyone who knew him praised his strong sense of duty, which he always carried out to the letter. In his memoirs, he portrays his children in different passages of the book. In particular, Olivia, who chose to live with her father in Madrid when the Duke separated from Duchess Beatrice von Hardenberg Beatrice, his first wife. “I’m happy about my children’s marriages. I think Sophie is a wonderful mother, and Julian is an impeccable man and a great person for my daughter Olivia,” he told ELM.
In his memoirs, Francisco de Borbón also pays tribute to his daughter Cristina, who died in 2020: “I like to remember my daughter Cristina as she was: a loving and fragile person. She was always affectionate and kind, always generous with me. Her mother and I had to admit her to various recovery centres on numerous occasions. But after a short time, she would relapse. She became increasingly anorexic and started drinking more alcohol. Inevitably, she met a tragic end.”
THREE MARRIAGES AND AN INTENSE LOVE LIFE
Paco de Borbón was full of love. He had three marriages and an intense love life. His first marriage, to the mother of his three children, the Duchess Beatrice von Hardenberg, made headlines all over the world. In the book, he describes her as shy and discreet, “until her shyness ran out and she ended up walking a little pig on a leash in Marbella and organising flamenco parties at her house with Lola Flores”. I will always remember her originality and warmth. He did not have the same kind words for his second marriage. “It was the worst thing that ever happened to me,” he said of Isabel Karanitsch, whom he described as “a social climber and fortune-hunter like no other I have ever met, and who never loved me. A malevolent person I fell madly in love with.” Although the marriage only lasted a few months, she continues to take advantage of the Bourbon name wherever she goes. In his book, Francisco recounts how he had little desire to remarry after his brief and unhappy marriage to Isabel, until he met Ángeles Vargas-Zúñiga, who would become his third wife and companion for 24 years. His widow is suffering from a serious illness, and Paco had to look after her during her years of decline. The Duke recounts this in his memoirs: “Six years ago, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and has gradually lost her faculties. I don’t know how long it will be before she stops recognising us, I hope it will be a long time.”
CARRYING THE TITLE, A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
He always said that being the Duke of Seville came with great responsibility: “I am fully aware that those of us who carry the title have an obligation to keep it clean. It is a family heritage held for a lifetime, and it must be passed on as clean as when it was given to us.”
Francisco de Borbón y Escasany’s ancestors played a significant role in 19th-century Spanish history. The 5th Duke of Seville and grandee of Spain presided over a number of companies and foundations. One of these was the Military Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, the Grand Mastery of which he handed to his son Francisco a few years ago.
His great-great-grandfather was born in Seville and became the first Duke of Seville. Thus the title has been passed down from generation to generation. When we asked him if his grandson, ‘Little Fran’, would be the next heir, he replied that if they choose, he would be the successor, but that an election would first have to be held.
All the charitable activities to which the Duke of Seville devoted his time were carried out through the Order of Saint Lazarus. For many years, the military order focused on hospital projects.
THE ‘BIG BROTHER’ OF KING JUAN CARLOS
One issue that concerned the Duke of Seville was the recent attacks on the nobility. “Ever since left-wing parties came into existence, the nobility has been under attack, and is doing what it can to defend itself.” It plays a discreet role in safeguarding family traditions. That’s what it does.’
As part of these left-wing attacks, we asked him about the situation with the King Emeritus. Paco de Borbón was unequivocal: “Juan Carlos de Borbón did more for Spain than almost anyone else. It would be a great historical mistake to remember him only for recent events, given all that he contributed to Spain becoming a democracy. The king cannot be judged on the basis of current affairs. He should be valued for the significant role he played in the transition.”
The nobleman would complain that: “We are living in a real ‘Big Brother’ situation. Things would have been different before, but now we are under the spotlight and any mistake will be highlighted.”

CARLOS GRANADA & JAVIER CATALÁN
ARCHITECTS OF ONE ESTEPONA
BY RAFAEL BARRIO, DIRECTOR OF ELM
How would you describe your personal approach to architecture?
Javier: For me, architecture is a form of dialogue with the environment. I’m interested in creating spaces that are calm, functional, and respectful of their context.
Carlos: I agree. With a more international background, I try to make each project connect with its surroundings through a contemporary yet sensitive lens.
You design buildings in one of the most desirable places in Europe: the Costa del Sol. What specific characteristics or challenges does building in this region present?
Carlos: The climate is a great advantage, but also a challenge. You need to design with light, thermal comfort, and indoor-outdoor living in mind.
Javier: There’s also a clear aesthetic expectation. People come here seeking beauty, serenity, and quality of life. That demands a high level of attention to detail.
How do you balance contemporary design with the Mediterranean identity that defines this area?
Javier: We aim for a clean, serene architecture that uses noble materials and reinterprets traditional elements.
Carlos: In One Estepona, for instance, the volumes are modern, but the warmth of the ensemble captures the Mediterranean spirit.
What is your creative process when starting a new project? Do you begin with functionality, the setting, the light...?
Carlos: We always start by listening to the site—its orientation, topography, views, and atmosphere.
Javier: And light is key. It’s what gives meaning to the space. From there, we build the entire living experience.
There’s a constant dialogue between nature and construction in your work. How important is sustainability in your designs?
Javier: It’s essential. We don’t conceive of any project without energy efficiency, durable materials, and natural ventilation.
Carlos: Sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a professional and ethical responsibility.
Many of your buildings feel like they’re not only meant to be inhabited, but also to be lived. What role do emotions play in your projects?
Carlos: A central one. Architecture must move people—it must create experiences.
Javier: We think about how each space will feel: the morning light, the view, the connection to the outdoors. Those moments make a house a home.
What materials or styles do you usually prefer for your projects on the Costa del Sol?
Javier: Natural materials: stone, wood, neutral ceramics. We value honesty and durability.
Carlos: As for style, we avoid excess. We go for a sober, elegant aesthetic—one that finds balance and harmony.
Which project has had the greatest personal or professional impact on you so far?
Carlos: One Estepona has been especially meaningful. It allowed us to integrate design, landscape, and quality of life in a single vision.
Javier: It’s a project that challenged and inspired us. Every decision was an opportunity to learn and grow.
Based on your experience, how do you see the future of architecture in this region? Where do you think it’s heading?
Javier: Toward a more human, responsible architecture—more connected to its surroundings.
Carlos: The Costa del Sol has the potential to lead a new Mediterranean way of living: contemporary design with soul.
Finally, what advice would you give to young architects who dream of making their mark in the world of design?
Carlos: Listen. Observe. Travel. Architecture begins with paying close attention.
Javier: And don’t lose your passion. It’s a demanding profession, but incredibly rewarding when done with dedication.
SANDRA LÓPEZ
THE TOP TALENT ACQUISITION DIRECTOR TRANSFORMING GLOBAL HOSPITALITY
BY ANA PAVÓN, EDITOR OF ELM
Visionary in People Strategy | Hospitality Leader | Gastronomy & Lifestyle Influencer
In the high-touch world of luxury hospitality, it’s not the design, menus, or even location that defines long-term success—it’s the people. And no one understands this better than Sandra López a globally recognized Talent Acquisition & People Director with over 20 years of experience shaping the human capital behind the world’s most ambitious hospitality brands.
Known for her strategic approach to recruitment, leadership development, and culture building, Sandra Lopez has quietly become one of the most influential figures in the industry—balancing deep HR expertise with a flair for digital storytelling and lifestyle branding.
What distinguishes your approach as a leader in hospitality talent acquisition?
I take a holistic approach. It’s not just about hiring someone to fill a role—it’s about aligning personality, values, and ambition with the soul of the brand. Every great hospitality experience is built by people who bring their full selves to the job. I look for that spark, and then I make sure the environment allows it to shine.
You lead large-scale recruitment for luxury openings. What are the unique challenges in doing this at a global scale? Each market has its own cultural, operational, and legal nuances—but the core remains the same: people want purpose, recognition, and growth. The challenge is in finding individuals who can deliver excellence consistently, while still expressing authenticity. Global scale requires a flexible strategy—blending strong local insight with a unified vision of service and brand values.
What trends are shaping the future of hospitality hiring today?
Three things: personalization, digital integration, and purpose-driven culture. Today’s talent wants more than a role—they want to be part of something meaningful. At the same time, we’re leveraging digital tools to streamline processes, source more creatively, and build communities, not just candidate pipelines. Social media has become a
major asset in this—both for branding and for showing who we really are behind the scenes.
You’re known as a lifestyle and gastronomy influencer as well. How do those worlds intersect?
They’re more connected than people think. Hospitality is lifestyle. Gastronomy is culture. When I share my insights or experiences online, I’m not just promoting a dish or a venue—I’m giving people a window into the heart of this industry. It also humanizes the recruitment process. Candidates aren’t just looking at a company; they’re seeing the people, the passion, and the purpose behind it.
What’s your biggest leadership priority right now?
Coaching the next generation. I’m focused on helping young leaders grow—especially those who are stepping into management for the first time. Emotional intelligence, resilience, and adaptability are now essential leadership traits. If we want to evolve as an industry, we need to invest in developing those soft skills alongside operational excellence.
And what does success look like for you now?
Success is when people thrive—not just professionally, but personally. If I can help create work environments where individuals feel inspired, valued, and part of something bigger, that’s the real legacy. I’m not just building teams; I’m shaping futures.

PROACTIVE SKIN HEALTH
UNDERSTANDING SKIN CANCER SCREENING IN MARBELLA
Skin cancer, while common, is highly treatable when caught early. If you’ve noticed skin changes or are simply due for a check-up, a professional screening is a crucial step. At Helicopteros Sanitarios Hospital in Marbella, we offer straightforward skin cancer screenings designed for your comfort and peace of mind.
What is a Skin Cancer Screening?
A skin cancer screening involves a thorough examination of your skin by a doctor to identify any suspicious growths, changing moles, or unusual spots. It’s an essential preventive measure for early detection, which significantly improves treatment outcomes. We prioritize a clear and stress-free experience, ensuring you’re informed every step of the way.
Your Screening Appointment: What to Expect Your screening begins with a conversation with your doctor about your skin history, any changes you’ve observed, sun exposure, and family history. This helps tailor the examination to your specific needs.
The Exam: You’ll put on a gown, and the doctor will conduct a comprehensive head-to-toe skin examination.
Identifying Concerns: The doctor will carefully look for moles, freckles, or spots exhibiting “red flags” such as:
• Irregular shape, size, or uneven colors/tones.
• Jagged or undefined edges.
• Bleeding, itching, or crusting.
Dermatoscope Use: A dermatoscope, a magnifying tool, may be used for a closer look at areas not easily visible to the naked eye.
Why Regular Screenings Matter
Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers. Early detection is vital: treatment is significantly simpler when caught in its initial stages. Delays can lead to spread and more complex interventions. For individuals with high sun exposure or a family history of skin cancer, annual screenings, as recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology, are particularly impactful. The sooner potential issues are identified, the better the prognosis.
After Your Screening: Next Steps
If a doctor identifies a concerning spot, a biopsy may be recommended. This quick procedure involves taking a small skin sample for lab testing. You’ll receive the results promptly, and if a diagnosis of skin cancer is made, your doctor will discuss all available treatment options, which may include surgical removal or other therapies.
Your Skin Cancer Diagnosis in Marbella
Don’t delay a skin check if you have concerns or haven’t had a recent screening. Helicopteros Sanitarios Hospital in Marbella is here to guide you. Whether it’s a routine check-up or a closer look at a worrying spot, we’re committed to early detection as the cornerstone of your health.

ALBERTO ROMERO
THE ARTIST WHO IMMORTALIZED THE DUCHESS OF ALBA
Alberto Romero, a painter and sculptor from Toledo, has stood out in the Spanish art scene for his deep connection with the Duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart. Since 2010, Romero devoted himself to portraying the duchess, becoming the only artist authorized by the House of Alba to work with her image. His work, characterized by a mixed technique and a pop-art style, has been exhibited in several Spanish cities, paying tribute to one of the most iconic figures of Spanish aristocracy.
The relationship between Romero and the duchess began when the artist presented her with a portrait he had painted.
The relationship between Romero and the duchess began when the artist presented her with a portrait he had painted. Impressed by the piece, Cayetana granted him permission to create a series of works based on her image. This gesture marked the beginning of a collaboration that materialized in the traveling exhibition “Doña Cayetana, ¡va por usted!” (“Doña Cayetana, this is for you!”), presented in cities such as Toledo, Madrid, Seville, and Ibiza. The exhibition included 45 pieces created over three years, using materials such as wood, paper, polyester, and marble dust, which added unique textures and reliefs to the works. The exhibition was inaugurated in Madrid by Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, son of the duchess, and was attended by Cayetana herself, who was visibly moved as she toured the show alongside the artist. Romero also presented his work in Seville, at the Gran Meliá Colón Hotel, and in Ibiza, where he exhibited 35 pop-art-inspired paintings at the Chapter Hall of Vila’s City Hall.
After the duchess’s passing in 2014, Romero continued to honor her with new exhibitions. In 2015, he presented a show in Talavera de la Reina, inaugurated by the current Duke of Alba, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, who praised the artist’s unique style and his ability to capture the essence of his mother.
Alberto Romero’s work not only pays tribute to the duchess, but also reflects a deep admiration and respect for her persona. Through his art, Romero has managed to immortalize Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, offering the public an intimate and colorful vision of a woman who left an indelible mark on Spanish history and culture.

With an artistic career spanning more than 40 years, Romero has undertaken numerous exhibitions. In the past 20 years, nearly all of his projects have been dedicated to history: exhibitions centered on Queen Isabella the Catholic, monarchs, and great historical figures.
His sources of inspiration include renowned artists such as Lucio Muñoz, Tàpies, Manolo Valdés, and Paco Rojas—artists who, like him, place great emphasis on the use of material. The themes in his work speak of sustainability, uniquely blending nature, humanity, and solidarity.
His technique stands out for the use of natural silks, reclaimed fabrics, plant-based papers, wood, recycled materials, algae, sawdust, ropes, threads… He brings these elements to life in every piece, imbuing each work with luminous colors and volume, which define his final creations and mark the unmistakable signature of his art.
Soon, we will witness his new and impressive sculptural work in Toledo. It promises to be a major event.

AMIGOS DE LA MÚSICA From Passion to Tradition: 55 years of
Celebrating musical excellence, vision, and cultural connection. When thinking of classical music in Marbella, one name inevitably comes to mind:
Yolanda Galeras de Martos . As president of the renowned Amigos de la Música, she has shaped the city’s cultural life for decades.
It all began in Marbella in 1970, when a small group of music lovers, including Yolanda’s father, grew tired of traveling to Málaga for concerts. They founded Amigos de la Música, supported by none other than pianist Arthur Rubinstein , who gave a benefit concert for the fledgling association.
“Music is a unifying element,” says Galeras. “It opens hearts and builds bridges between cultures and generations.” Over the years, the association became a cultural institution, turning venues like the Hotel Don Pepe and El Fuerte into concert halls. Legends such as Rubinstein, Teresa Berganza, Andrés Segovia, Montserrat Caballé, Rostropovich, Barenboim , and Plácido Domingo , honorary president since 1983, have all graced its stage.
In honor of Rubinstein, Yolanda Galeras launched the Rubinstein Prize to support young musical talent. “The goal is to promote the next generation,” she explains.
Though rooted in classical music, Amigos de la Música embraces diversity: jazz, gospel, flamenco, French chansons, and even rock have all found their way into the program. With tireless dedication, Yolanda Galeras embodies what cultural mediation means today: passion, expertise, and a deep sense of what truly matters.

HUBERTUS
VON HOHENLOHE GALERÍA ISOLINA ARBULU
PRESENTED PEINTURE TROUVÉ, A VISUAL EXPLORATION OF FOUND BEAUTY AND THE POETRY OF THE FORGOTTEN
Isolina Arbulu Gallery was honored to present; Peinture Trouvée: The art of serendipity, the second solo exhibition at the gallery by artist and photographer Hubertus von Hohenlohe. Opening on June 6, 2025, the exhibition offered a poetic immersion in the accidental: a visual celebration of the beauty that emerges from what is overlooked, discarded, or forgotten.
Through a striking series of large-format photographs, Hohenlohe transforms everyday objects— crumpled papers, abandoned fabrics, dried pigments—into visually rich and textured compositions. Inspired by the concept of Objet Trouvé, the artist reveals a universe where painting is not created, but discovered, shaped by chance, time, and neglect. These images, brimming with texture, color, and form, blur the boundaries between photography, painting, and sculpture. “Where does beauty hide?” Hohenlohe asks. “What happens when we stop chasing perfection and start seeing the aesthetic in what the world has left behind?” His work invites us to look with fresh eyes and to find unexpected meaning and emotion in the accidental.
In a special collaboration with furniture artisans, Treforma and interior designer Eva Carrasco, Hohenlohe takes his vision further by intervening directly on handcrafted furniture pieces. The result is a series of hybrid objects, where functionality merges with artistic expression, and art steps beyond the frame to inhabit daily life.
Hubertus von Hohenlohe is no ordinary photographer. Described as a “sportsman, globetrotter, and bon vivant,” his multifaceted career spans photography, design, performance, and media. Born into European aristocracy and educated in philosophy and economics, his creative path has been guided by curiosity, irreverence, and a deep sense of aesthetics.
His work has been exhibited at major institutions including the Belvedere Museum (Vienna), the National Museum of Hungary, Fundación Cajasol (Seville), Fundación Unicaja (Málaga), the Danubiana Museum (Bratislava), and the Chiostro del Bramante (Rome), among many others. He has collaborated with global brands such as Leica—which even launched a special edition camera in his name—Jaeger-LeCoultre, Mandarina Duck, and Kappa, and was a longtime creative partner for Red Bull.
From Buenos Aires to Tokyo, Hohenlohe’s visual language—marked by pop colors, poetic irony, and a unique sensitivity—invites us to rediscover the world through fragments others have overlooked.
With Peinture Trouvée, Hohenlohe offers a contemplative pause, a different gaze amidst everyday chaos. A reminder that the sublime can be found in the simplest things, and that sometimes, the most powerful works are not made—but found.

SINERGIAS CLUB MARBELLA
WHERE IDEAS MEET PEOPLE
In the heart of the Costa del Sol, the Sinergias Business Club is committed to connecting cultures, industries, and generations. Marbella is home to people from all over the world: digital nomads, expats, and investors.
The club aims to harness Marbella’s potential as an international hotspot for innovation, entrepreneurship, and lifestyle. Sinergias is not a typical business club, but rather a meeting place for creative minds and visionary entrepreneurs. Its goal is to foster cooperation and business synergies along the Costa del Sol.
The club brings together over 150 entrepreneurs from various nationalities and industries. The name “Sinergias” represents the positive energy that emerges from collaboration.
“Our main objective is to connect the regional businesses,” says the president of the club, Helena Olcina. It’s not just about exchanging business cards, but about building lasting partnerships. Already, 30 percent of the
members come from abroad. Within the club there is an international group to provide personalized attention to foreign members, led by Anastasia Sedykh, which provide answers and support to members of different nationalities who reside and undertake in La Costa del Sol, and sometimes find it difficult to understand the Spanish bureaucracy, in addition to seeking more personalized events and services, always provided in English.
In an increasingly digital world, the club emphasizes personal encounters and the power of community. It regularly hosts exclusive events such as business breakfasts, afterwork meetups, talks, workshops, and its annual gala. In addition, a digital platform offers space for exchange and collaboration. These encounters have already led to start-ups, business partnerships, and creative projects.
This exhibition marks the second solo show by the young Cordobés artist at the gallery. The show brings together internet culture, selfreferences, and iconic imagery from classical art in a body of work that balances between the meme and the transcendent.
YUSTO / GINER gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by artist Fran Baena (Priego de Córdoba, 1999), titled “Tú nuncacaca sabes nananada sobre mimimimí” (“you nevererer know anynynything about memememe”). In this new body of works, the artist delves into themes of contemporary identity, imposture syndrome, and emotional fragility in an age of hyperconnection. He uses humor and internet aesthetics as tools to create deeply personal and generational paintings.
A VISUAL LANGUAGE BETWEEN MEME AND MASKING
Combining conceptual clarity with refined technique, Baena uses egg tempera—one of the oldest painting methods in art history—among other materials to depict some of the most fleeting images of contemporary visual culture: memes, cursed images, and digital symbols reimagined as psychological portraits. His works are populated with ambiguous figures and distorted selfportraits, shifting between the grotesque and the touching, between shitposting and melancholy.
The exhibition unfolds through a non-linear narrative. Figurative pieces, emotional portraits, and abstract compositions appear in succession like a digital feed. Amid dark backgrounds, bright, colorful, almost childlike elements emerge, contrasting with the severity of certain gestures and titles—as if reminding us that even in the chaos of the internet, there is room for tenderness and truth.
IMPOSTOR SYNDROME AS A STARTING POINT
At the heart of the exhibition lies the theme of impostor syndrome—a concept Baena explores not only in relation to his own youth and career (at just 25, he has already developed a distinctive voice and a solid presence within Spain’s art scene), but also as a collective experience in a time when we all project multiple versions of ourselves.
The exhibition title, partly borrowed from a previous show (at the Palacio de los Condes de Gabia, Granada), acts as a playful and defensive statement: a childlike chant of denial that paradoxically reveals deep insight.
“Everything that happens on the internet happens first in real life,” Baena says. It is in that passage between the personal and the virtual that his works become meaningful artifacts—where each image, no matter how absurd, points to shared experiences, common frustrations, and universal desires.
A PRACTICE BETWEEN CLASSICISM AND THE MEME
Despite his age, Baena has developed a coherent practice that merges drawing, painting, and visual research. He draws from influences such as Warhol, Picabia, Paula Rego, and Angélica Liddell, fusing them with the iconography of social media. Remix, appropriation, recycling, and irony form the foundations of his artistic language— without abandoning symbolism or narrative. In “Tú nuncacaca sabes nananada sobre mimimimí”, titles act as emotional cues or semantic traps. Against the speed of digital consumption, Baena offers a moment for reflection: his paintings don’t aim to shout, but to resonate.
FRAN BAENA – BIOGRAPHY
Fran Baena (Priego de Córdoba, 1999) critically reinterprets digital imagery through irony and narrative, transforming what might seem trivial into politically charged visual statements. Through appropriation, memes, and “poor images,” he investigates the social issues hidden behind the images we consume online—recasting them with a new aura and a sobering perspective.
SOBRE YUSTO/ GINER Yusto/Giner is a Spanish platform for the exhibition and promotion of contemporary art on an international scale. Opening in Marbella during the financial crisis of 2012, and later in Madrid at the height of the Covid pandemic, Yusto/ Giner brings this bold and optimistic spirit into both its artistic aesthetic and philosophy. Its main goal is to foster the evolution of contemporary art toward a positive and productive output, through a selection of artists whose work seeks to create a new understanding of life in the 21st century—often ironic or harsh, but always aiming to discover an optimistic and meaningful vision of the world. https://yusto-giner.com

RAFA B.
A uthenticity in its purest form
At just 12 years old, Rafa B has emerged as one of the most exciting new talents in the world of Spanish contemporary art. Hailing from Marbella, his work has begun to take the world by storm. Full of colour and emotion, his art exudes a unique authenticity that can only stem from a child’s perspective.
Rafa B’s ability to connect with the viewer and convey complex emotions through his art establishes him as a promising newcomer to the contemporary art scene. He specialises in large-format paintings that are full of colour, vitality and sensitivity. His work is clearly influenced by styles such as Cubism and artists such as Picasso, Dalí, Miró, George Condo, André Butzer and Basquiat.
“Rafa paints what he observes and how he feels above all else, offering the viewer his intuition and his vision of life.”
“His work leaves no one indifferent in each exhibition. Critics, collectors and artists alike agree that he is a prodigiously talented artist with a distinctive voice. Rafa B does not aim to please; he aims to express himself.” ‹‹
Rafa has been painting since the age of two, climbing ladders to reach the canvases. He uses acrylics, Posca markers, crayons and charcoal with ease.
His style is free, intuitive and powerful. He does not adhere to any particular school of thought or formula. Rafa paints what he observes and how he feels above all else, offering the viewer his intuition and his vision of life. This is reflected in his works, which reveal his concerns, desires and dreams. Often compared to the early stages of Abstract Expressionism, his compositions blend naivety and maturity in a way that confuses the viewer, compelling them to stop and take a closer look.
His work leaves no one indifferent in each exhibition. Critics, collectors and artists alike agree that he is a prodigiously talented artist with a distinctive voice. Rafa B does not aim to please; he aims to express himself. Perhaps that is why his art is so moving – because it is real, direct and unadorned. A pure heartbeat in the midst of the noise. Each piece encourages
viewers to explore fresh perspectives and recognise the value of creativity in all its forms.
Ultimately, Rafa B’s exhibition at La Casa de las Tejerinas in Estepona celebrates young art, showcasing the boundless potential of the new generation. The exhibition invites us to appreciate art without prejudice, and to recognise that passion and talent know no age limits.
The exhibition, which opened on 5th June at La Casa de las Tejerinas, was notable not only for the quality of the works on display, but also for the message they convey: the concept of art as a universal language that transcends generations.
The artist presented large-format pieces characterised by free brushstrokes, vibrant colours and subtle references that reflect an unexpected maturity for his age.
Noteworthy pieces include: La Duquesa Holandesa, inspired by his trip to the Netherlands, as well as Miss Margarita, Los Músicos, El Torero Pacífico and reinterpretations of iconic works like El Minotauro.
“Ultimately, Rafa B’s exhibition at La Casa de las Tejerinas in Estepona celebrates young art, showcasing the boundless potential of the new generation. The exhibition invites us to appreciate art without prejudice, and to recognise that passion and talent know no age limits.”
Rafa B has attracted the attention of collectors, galleries and the media. He has sold his work in Marbella, Madrid (SAM Art Fair), Belgium and Germany, and has participated in international competitions in England and Moscow.
His spontaneous discussions about his creative process, his emotional connection and his admiration for Picasso give him a unique presence on the cultural scene. The exhibition, organised by the Delegación de Cultura de Estepona, attracted a diverse audience ranging from art lovers to prominent figures from the cultural and political spheres. With its rich history and emblematic architecture, the Casa de las Tejerinas provided the perfect setting for this exhibition. Situated in the Plaza de las Flores, this cultural venue has hosted numerous art exhibitions, establishing itself as a leading promoter of art in the region.

WHITE CANVAS
ERASE & REPLACE:OWN YOUR GOOGLE PRESENCE
In a world where Google is your first business card, White Canvas works silently behind the scenes to guard and restore digital reputations. We spoke with founder and CEO Marco Juffermans about the invisible battle against online damage, fake news, and search engine pollution. Together with his team of dedicated online reputation managers, he assists individuals and companies in managing their digital image in more than 23 countries. Their secret weapon? A proprietary method called S.I.L.K. Technology®, designed to make negative search results vanish from Google’s pages. These can include gossip articles, unwanted photos, or even damaging news reports.
“When you Google yourself, you might come across things you’d rather not see, whether it’s something recent or something from years ago. Our job is to make sure that such content no longer defines you in the digital space.”
M a r c o Ju f f e r m a n s
THE IMPORTANCE OF A CLEAN FIRST PAGE
For Juffermans and his team, the first page of Google is everything. “Nearly 98 percent of users never click beyond the first page,” he explains. “That’s why we treat that page as your first digital impression - and we make sure it looks spotless. Whether it’s harmful links, outdated news, or misleading blog posts, White Canvas ensures these traces are pushed away, making room for positive and relevant content. This allows both individuals and businesses to present themselves in the best possible light. White Canvas operates discreetly. Most clients, ranging from high-level executives and public figures to private citizens, prefer to keep such digital cleanups confidential. “Reputation damage can happen to anyone - a bitter ex-partner, a disgruntled customer, or simply an unfortunate media incident - and its impact can last for decades if left unchecked,” says Juffermans.
THE S.I.L.K. TECHNOLOGY: A FOUR-STEP DEFENCE
At the core of White Canvas’s success lies its self-developed S.I.L.K. Technology ® a method that follows four carefully designed steps: Search, Identify, Lower and Keep. “We start by scanning and mapping all negative content,” Juffermans explains. “Then we identify which results can be suppressed or removed. After that, we actively lower their visibility using legal tools, SEO tactics, and content creation. The final step, ‘Keep’, ensures long-term monitoring to prevent old problems from resurfacing.”
The method is effective but never aggressive. “We don’t hack or manipulate”, Juffermans emphasizes. “Everything we do complies with Google’s guidelines and legal boundaries.”
COMMON
MISTAKES IN REPUTATION MANAGEMENT
managementAccording to Juffermans, many people, and even companies, underestimate the risks of lettingnegative search results linger. “One of the biggest mistakes is to ignore bad links, hoping they’lldisappear by themselves. They never do,” he warns.Another pitfall: poor communication. “Some businesses think that by staying silent online, they aresafe. But this creates a vacuum that others can fill, often with unwanted or misleading information.”His advice? “Stay active, monitor your name or business, and invest in positive content. It’s notabout hiding the truth; we can control your story.”
THE FUTURE OF DIGITAL REPUTATION
As AI and deepfakes grow more sophisticated, the field of online reputation management ischanging rapidly. “We’re already seeing fake videos and AI-generated articles that damagereputations without any factual basis,” says Juffermans. “This makes our work even more important— and more challenging. In the future, prevention will become just as crucial as repair.”White Canvas is preparing for this shift by developing early warning systems and predictivemonitoring tools. “We want to detect threats before they appear in Google search results,” heexplains.
FINAL THOUGHT
A good name is more vulnerable than ever, but fortunately, it’s also more defendable than peoplerealise,” Juffermans concludes with a smile. “Your digital reputation is your new business card.Better make sure it’s clean.”
