Message from MS KRUGER

Dear Parents/Carers and all our students The trees on the school site are in full bloom, and combined with the beautiful sunny days we’ve seen, we are left full of hope for new beginnings and better days to come! Students are reminded that they need to wear their EWS lanyards at all times on school site. They are advised to not wear it on the journey to and from school. This is for safeguarding reasons. Due to the improved weather we will be adjusting school uniform from April 26th • Students may wear their PE kit to school on PE days. If they do not have EWS PE kit they are to wear normal full school uniform. • Students are to wear full school uniform on all other days. • Students who have the EWS logo shirt may leave their EWS jumper at home on hot days. • Students may not wear hoodies. • Students will be required to take their coats off in lessons. • Full details of EWS uniform is in the student planner and on the website. Unfortunately this year we are unable to accept private examination entries for the June 2021 GCSE and GCE examination series. Students will still have the opportunity to sit these examinations in the October/ November 2021 series.

Attendance at EWS

Attendance at EWS EWS attendance expectations: attendance over 95% and no or 1 lates a week. Supporting good attendance is the most crucial factor in both your child staying safe and achieving academically. As parents you can monitor your child’s attendance on the schoolgateway app and attendance and punctuality on firefly.

Communication school to home

EWS uses firefly and the schoolgateway as the means by which we communicate with parents. Please click on the links below or on the school website to sign up to if you have not already done so. Contact Mr Pallister on the school number if you have any issues with signing up.

The Queen’s 95th birthday was celebrated with the premiere of a new work that I think quite a few of our students will find interesting: It tells the stories of 12 of the Kings and Queens in England’s history, read by Helen Mirren and Damian Lewis, and with music especially composed by Debbie Wiseman. Look out for its release in June.

Welcome Congratulations on receiving a place at EWS. We have a range of virtual and on-site events and activities to help make sure that your child’s transition to secondary school is as smooth as possible. As you will appreciate, our on-site events will be subject to government guidelines so please check our website before setting out.

Summer Term 2021 Events and Activities for Year 6 Parents and Students • Virtual Open House

Tuesday 4th May - 4pm to 6pm

This is a voluntary event for new parents to ask any immediate questions. You will be informed how to sign up nearer the time.

• Primary School Visits and Liaison Tuesday 4th May to Wednesday 30th June

Each year we enjoy visiting your child in primary school. If government guidelines do not permit visit we will liaise with the school by phone.

• Virtual Transition Evening for Parents Tuesday 8th June - 4pm to 6pm

All Year 6 parents are strongly advised to attend this event. You will be informed how to sign up nearer the time.

• EWS Teacher and Parent 1:1

Wednesday 9th June to Wednesday 30th June

This is an opportunity to tell us about your child. This year we will be running these sessions by phone.

• Transition Day at EWS for all Year 6 students Friday 2nd July - 9.00am to 3.00pm

This date is decided by the London Borough of Ealing (this may change due to Covid). All Year 6 children are on site at EWS for the whole day, doing a range of fun and educational activities.

• Year 6 BBQ

Late June / Early July

Each year we host a family fun BBQ with complimentary food, drinks, music and activities. This event will depend on the government guidelines at the time. We will give you full details at our virtual transition evening for parents, if not before, so please put it in your diary.
