know I speak for the whole EWS community in expressing my deepest sympathy for the families and friends of the victims of the appalling atrocity in Manchester this week. We can all learn from the way in which the Mancunians responded with humanity and compassion after the incident.

nternational Bestseller! Year 8 student Mercygrace Samuyiwa has had a short story published in Reader’s Digest magazine. This is her with her prize winner’s cheque. We look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

ater this week, we will be sending home a letter about a charity project called “Bridges to Africa.” The aim of the project is to promote an understanding amongst UK schoolchildren of some of the issues facing their peers in Uganda and Zambia. EWS students will be offered a chance to do a sponsored 10km walk on Saturday 1st July through central London, crossing 10 bridges of the Thames, from Vauxhall Bridge to Tower Bridge. Teachers volunteer their time to accompany those students who commit to raising money for the project through sponsorship. The money will go towards the work of the UK charity, Promoting Equality in African Schools, which is helping to provide affordable secondary education in developing countries (You can find out more about the work of the charity by visiting www.peas. org.uk). We hope you will encourage your child to participate in this worthwhile experience.
