ABOUT THE SHOW
Originally written as a song cycle for American soprano Dawn Upshaw, Maria Schneider’s Winter Morning Walks is based on poems by Ted Kooser—what he calls ‘postcards’, written as he battled depression on pre-dawn walks alone and with his wife. Vancouver- based composer and arranger Réjean Marois arranged the musical miniatures for vocal ensemble and trio.
In this concert, volcan ensemble musica intima will perform Marois’ version of these haunting and beautiful pieces with Vancouver-based ensemble Triology (Jodi Prozinik, Miles Black and Bill Coon), and drummer Craig Scott.
ABOUT MUSICA INTIMA
In 1992, a group of friends wanted to sing together. They started gathering in one another’s homes to make music while they shared the artistic values that fed into what musica intima has become today: a collective that fosters human connection through vocal music.

Triology is a supergroup of three award winning Canadian jazz musicians – Jodi Proznick on bass, Miles Black on piano and Bill Coon on guitar. They have joined forces to form one of Canada’s finest jazz trios. Their live performances are a captivating fusion of timeless jazz standards and original compositions, drawing inspiration from jazz trios of the past, reminiscent of icons like Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson.
Bill Coon is an amazing and fluid guitarist, originally from Montreal. Bill has over 25 years professional experience. He has worked with many jazz greats, including Jimmy Heath, Eddie Daniels and more.
Jodi Proznick is an award winning bassist, Jodi has become one of Canada’s “top call” artists. Jodi leads her own quartet, and is a member of many other amazing jazz ensembles, such as the Tilden Webb Trio and the Oliver Gannon Quartet.
With over 30 years experience, Mike Black is a highly accomplished pianist and composer who has performed worldwide and recorded extensively.
