Impact REPORT

2
You are reading the first lines of our very first impact report.

Let’s be proud but clear-headed. These pages are far from being a self-celebration to say that we're perfect: they're an initial assessment of our first steps, but above all of all the steps that we still have to take.

When it comes to CSR, sustainability, responsibility, engagement... the risk of greenwashing is never far away. Let us humbly point out that tourism has a significant environmental and social impact. This means that our efforts to change the rules of the game... Are essential. So, what should we do? We act determinedly and realistically. Lets go!

future?

The starting POINT

Our model - local from day one.

Our philosophy hasn't changed since the very beginning of Evaneos. We're looking to change the rules of mass tourism, by creating shared value for local economies. This is what sets us apart from the other players in the sector.

IN A NUTSHELL?

Evaneos puts travelers in touch with local agencies. The itineraries are 100% personalized and the emphasis is put on offering truly authentic experiences. With us, travel benefits the entire community - not just one company.

6

THE FIGURE TO REMEMBER?

WITH EVANEOS, AT LEAST 85% OF THE COST OF EACH TRIP DIRECTLY FUNDS LOCAL PLAYERS IN THE DESTINATIONS VISITED .

7

01. Changing the rules of the game 2019

"BETTER

TRIPS" WAS BORN.

This is a name you will see a lot in these pages: it embodies all our initiatives to make tourism more virtuous. In other words, to increase the positive impact of travel on destinations, their environment and their economy. This is the foundation of our entire strategy.

2020

COVID AND TAKING A STEP BACK.

The temporary suspension of travel raised questions about which way to go. We raised our selection criteria for our community of agencies, strengthening our ties with them, but also with our customers thanks to tailor made guarantees and support. Our intuition has been confirmed: it's important to continue traveling, but to travel differently.

8

2021 2022

OUR WORK IS RECOGNIZED BY A B CORP CERTIFICATION:

THE LAUNCH OF OUR BETTER TRIPS FUND,

where a percentage of each trip sold is donated. We'll talk about it in a few pages, we promise. Also: the signature of Climate Neutral Now and the Glasgow Declaration, the UN Global Compact Commitment and the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative. We're on our way!

We are part of a global community of companies that uphold high social and environmental standards. To get it, our entire ecosystem was examined: in length, in breadth, in depth, 360°. Was it dizzying? A little but it was also necessary!

01. Changing the rules of the game

Being a B Corp is not an end in itself, and it doesn't mean we're perfect. It means that we respect high social and environmental standards, and above all that we are committed to always doing better.

MARION

B what?

Certified B Corp companies reconcile objectives and profits. They are legally obliged to consider the impact of their decisions on workers, customers, suppliers, the community and the environment. This worldwide movement sees the company as a force for the common good.

Continuing in the right direction, of course. Not least through this1st impact report, which contains our reflections, improvements, concrete actions and also our future plans to change the rules of mass tourism.

02. Better Trips: definition

What does it mean to travel better?

AT EVANEOS, WE CREATE EVERY TRIP WITH A BETTER TRIPS VISION.

For tourism to be transformed, travel must be beneficial, not only for those who travel, but also for those who welcome them.

For travelers: a unique, more ethical, responsible trip, aligned with our values, with an offer, expertise and service that are of outstanding quality. For the world around us: a more virtuous, measured, sustainable impact, more respectful of natural environments, local economies and cultures.

Objective: 100%, of course.

Great pride

We were awarded the B Corp label, the most demanding international standard in terms of social and environmental performance, with a score of 89.6.

Big assessment

An initial carbon footprint assessment at allows us to know where we're starting from, but above all to build a roadmap for reducing our carbon footprint.

18

Introspection

An unprecedented consultation exercise was carried out with all the players we work with (over 680 people mobilized internally and externally!) to determine our next areas of action in terms of impact, while projecting ourselves onto the major trends and challenges of the world in which we live. This is a double materiality, as experts know.

The report

An impact on whom, on what?

At Evaneos, we have four main stakeholders at the heart of our business: the agencies, the travelers, the destinations and, of course, our employees!

Let's see how we do our best to maximize the positive impacts, whilst limiting the negative ones.

20
21

01. On the agency side

Locals do it better

Our model rethinks the way local agencies relate to each other, with an approach that is truly partnershipbased.

4,1 5*

THIS

IS HOW SATISFIED

OUR agencies are with our partnership. We measure this satisfaction on a quarterly basis, tracking our progress and taking into account both positive and negative feedback from our partners. *on average and in 2022

22

Sharing value is at the heart of our business model and it is not just a financial concept; it also means choosing the right partners to develop and grow:

IT ALL STARTS WITH AN ULTRASELECTIVE NETWORK OF "COMMITTED" AGENCIES WHO ARE ALIGNED WITH OUR VALUES AND PROMISE.

IT CONTINUES WITH SUPPORT TO HELP LOCAL PARTNER AGENCIES IMPROVE THEIR DAY-TO-DAY PRACTICES

AND IT IS MOVING TOWARDS DEMANDING SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS AND CERTIFICATIONS .

That's how we can make an impact: by sharing this vision of travel with our partners.

23

01. On the agency side

The casting

How do we select our agencies?

Short answer

Long answer

We choose the best.

They are chosen for the quality of their service and their local commitment. Out of 10 agencies applying, only 1 will work with us. In 2019, we launched the Evaneos Code of Conduct, to which 100% of our local agency partners have committed.

24

The Evaneos Code of Conduct

COMMIT TO EVER-HIGHER STANDARDS:

Demanding and exhaustive, our Code of Conduct goes far beyond conventional industry best practices. It summarizes, clarifies and is inspired by the directives of competent authorities, such as the World Tourism Organization.

The 5 golden rules to which our local agency partners are committed:

1. PROVIDING EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND UNIQUE EXPERTISE,

2. RESPECTING THE LAW AND OFFERING FAIR WORKING CONDITIONS,

3. TREATING PEOPLE ETHICALLY AND PROMOTING EQUALITY,

4. SUPPORTING THE LOCAL ECONOMY,

5. PROTECTING THE CULTURAL HERITAGE AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

Our Code of Conduct is mandatory for all our agencies. More than 1,400 agents have been trained since its launch in 2020.

25

01. On the agency side

Let’s give women more agencies

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), women account for 54% of the tourism industry workforce worldwide... but they occupy no more than 20% of management positions.

To redress the balance (at our scale), we committed in 2021 to recruit at least 200 new agencies that are owned and run by women by 2025. By the end of 2022, 25% of the target had already been reached .

The figure to remember?

50 WOMEN-OWNED AGENCIES HAVE BEEN RECRUITED SINCE, INCLUDING 25% IN ASIA-PACIFIC AND 32% IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA - AREAS WHERE GENDER INEQUALITIES ARE MORE PREVALENT.

THE BETTER TRIPS INDEX, OUR TOOL TO HELP AGENCIES PROGRESS

Each local agency is rated on the basis of feedback from travelers, random audits and the monitoring of operational performance indicators.

We can offer them personalized support based on their results.

30

All committed to our cause

WE SUPPORT AND FINANCE OUR PARTNERS SO THAT THEY CAN BECOME BETTER FOR THE WORLD. SOME AGENCIES ARE ALREADY MAKING THEIR MARK THANKS TO A CONCRETE COMMITMENT. THESE ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE OBTAINED OR ARE AIMING TO OBTAIN : A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATION

A FIRST LEVEL OF QUALIFICATION IN SUSTAINABILITY

Since 2022, we have been supporting and financing our agencies in order to help them obtain these certifications. Recognized certifications must be transparent and meet standards ranging from a well-established reputation to a holistic approach. Their legitimacy is recognized by national governments or the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). The most common are ATR, Tourcert, B Corp or Travelife. We've created a partnership with the latter: we will tell you more about it in two pages!

Since 2022, we have been supporting our agencies in obtaining these certifications and have been participating in their financing.

31

01. On the agency side

Here are our Local Heroes

Award-wise, some agencies are rewarded by external organizations. In our case, there's the "Local Hero Award", an internally award that was created to give greater visibility to agencies that promote ecotourism, work with local NGOs... By going far beyond the standards required by our code of conduct.

SREYMOM

LOCAL AGENT AND LOCAL HERO IN CAMBODIA

We donate part of our profits to the Phare Ponleu Selpak association. It's our way of working to reintegrate young people through art and education. In 2022, we launched a waste collection campaign in several cities to raise awareness about this major issue for Cambodia.

"

We donate €10 per traveler to the association, taken directly from our profit margin. We also collaborate with the Naturevolution Madagasikara association, which fights to ensure the preservation of biodiversity in the Makay, a region in the south that is still little visited."

01. On the agency side

Travelife objective

TRAVELIFE IS THE BENCHMARK CERTIFICATION INSTITUTE FOR THE SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL SECTOR*.

* To go into more detail: the Travelife standard covers the themes of Corporate Social Responsibility, ISO 26000, including the environment, biodiversity, human rights and labor relations.

We are certified, and we encourage our local agencies to be too: it's a fantastic tool for transforming the world of tourism. We dedicate time and resources to providing educational support for our agencies, while subsidizing the financial cost through our Better Trips Fund.

34

Our ambition for 2025:

OF OUR AGENCIES WILL HAVE BEGUN THIS ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION PROCESS

And bam!

OF THEM WILL HAVE OBTAINED A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATION.

IT WILL HAVE A SNOWBALL EFFECT AND A TRULY POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE GLOBAL TOURISM ECOSYSTEM.

02. On the travelers' side

Decarbonize*

As we all know, the carbon footprint of travel to and from the destination often represents the majority of a traveler's carbon footprint.

OUR SOLUTION: suggest more itineraries locally or in neighboring countries, destinations that can sometimes even be reached by train. Today, 50% of proposed itineraries are less than 4 hours' flight away by 2022, compared with 30% in 2019 . Once you've reached your destination, the agencies also offer more leisurely ways to get around: on foot, by bike...

*Vocabulary moment

When you read "decarbonize", you'd think we'd arrive at a neutral operation. But decarbonizing means reducing, not totally eliminating. This reduction applies to the journey towards the destination and to on-site transport.

42

SINCE 2020, WITH OUR "LOW CARBON" OFFER, WE HAVE MULTIPLIED:

Our aim is to promote quality encounters, to reconnect with the essence of travel and to move away from mass tourism wherever possible .

For example?

MORE UNCONVENTIONAL ITINERARIES... ... OR RATHER OUT OF SEASON TRAVEL.

OR EVEN IN THE MIDST OF NATURE.

44

We always offer volunteer days or halfdays. In Playa del Carmen, certified divers can take part in coral restoration. In Los Cabos, we have a "whale defender" tour: in addition to whale watching, we also take a census, checking that nearby boats are respecting the rules of distancing. We also plan to launch half-day beach clean-ups to raise awareness, particularly among children, about the use of plastic. This brings a real 'activist' dimension to the trip."

03. Destinations

Climate: so what do we do?

WE'VE JUST SEEN THE POSITIVE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL EFFECTS OF TOURISM.

But don't bury your head in the sand: it also generates considerable negative impacts, starting with CO2 emissions.

Between 2009 and 2013, tourism accounted for 8%* of anthropogenic global warming. Since climate change is a direct consequence of greenhouse gas emissions, this is an immense (and vital) challenge.

To meet this challenge and limit the temperature rise to 1.5°C, as set out in the Paris Agreement, Evaneos signed the Glasgow Declaration at COP 26 in 2021.

*Nature Climate Change, May 2018.

46

OUR COMMITMENT FOR THE CLIMATE INVOLVES 3 KEY STAGES BETWEEN NOW AND 2024:

IN 2022, MEASURE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT OF ALL OUR DIRECT AND INDIRECT ACTIVITIES (SCOPE 1, 2 AND 3) OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS, CALCULATE OUR TRAVELERS’ CARBON FOOTPRINTS AND OFFSET THEM OVER THE CURRENT YEAR.

BY 2023, DRAW UP A CLIMATE ACTION PLAN FOR OUR OWN FOOTPRINT AND TRAVEL, WITH INTERMEDIATE TARGETS VALIDATED BY THE SBTI INITIATIVE (SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS INITIATIVE),

AND ABOVE ALL, TO IMPLEMENT CONTINUOUS REDUCTION POLICIES AND SUPPORT OUR VALUE CHAIN IN REDUCING ITS EMISSIONS.

03. Destinations

Evaneos... and beyond.

IF WE WANTED TO PUT BLINDERS ON, WE COULD.

We could say that, after all, Evaneos only has a hundred or so employees... And that the travelers’ carbon footprint is the responsibility of the local agencies, and that the aircraft’s is the responsibility of the airlines. But that would be hypocritical and counterproductive.

So we count the trips booked through Evaneos in our carbon footprint, and our targets are based on these figures. This is the principle of a Scope 3 carbon footprint, measuring our partners’ emissions and their partners’ emissions as well. And if you keep your eyes open, you'll see that few take this into account.

48

71,5 %

OF OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT IS LINKED TO OUR TRAVELERS’ INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL, AND 28.4% IS LINKED TO ACCOMMODATION, ACTIVITIES AND TRANSPORT WITHIN THE TRIP.

Protecting biodiversity

To put it simply: tourism (and over-tourism in particular) is exerting increasing pressure on natural environments and biodiversity.

We obviously encourage off-season travel or travel away from the crowds ... But we also try to give tourism a regenerative role. Tourism revenues can, for example, contribute to the conservation of national parks and nature reserves.

52

IN 2022, THE BETTER TRIPS FUND SUPPORTED PROJECTS DEDICATED TO PROTECTING BIODIVERSITY:

Planting of over 130,000 mangrove trees via Eden Reforestation Project in Madagascar.

Collection of over 65 tonnes (!) of marine plastic waste with the NGO Plastics for Change.

At the same time, our agents are trained to respect ecosystems and wildlife, and the Evaneos* Animal Welfare Charter is signed by all our partners.

Spoiler: photos with sleeping tigers or rides on the backs of mistreated elephants: that will not happen.

* When deciding on animal-related activities, Evaneos follows ABTA guidelines. And updates its rules with recommendations from Animondial's industry and conservation experts.

Travel: less carbon-intensive...

Evaneossians who avoid flying for long-distance journeys benefit from an extra day of compensatory time. This commitment is a concrete way of embodying our values: a way of setting an example.

...and different

Being flexible also means being able to work remotely from anywhere in the world, for up to 16 weeks a year, in blocks of up to 30 days . Evaneossians can spend time with an agency abroad, live abroad or combine vacation and remote working. Yes, we really do believe in the long haul: no more flying from Friday evening to Sunday evening.

58

Environmental compensatory days are completely consistent with our model, the link between what we say and what we do: encouraging low-carbon travel and transport by minimizing negative impacts and optimizing positive ones.”

Gentler parenting
