ONE of the much-loved local bars destroyed by a devastating fire earlier this year has triumphantly reopened its doors, thanks to extraordinary support from the town’s tight-knit expatriate community. The popular venue, a favourite among British and international residents, was completely gutted in a blaze back in August, leaving owners heartbroken after years of hard work. However, determination and community spirit have won. Hundreds of locals rallied with fundraising events, generous donations, and hands-on help to fund and complete a major rebuild. The owners of Champagne Charlies expressed eternal gratitude to everyone involved, highlighting the tireless efforts of John, Robbie, and Mark (Cavery) in particular. “We are proud to announce our doors reopen tonight,” the owners said. “This would not have been possible without the incredible support during an extremely difficult time.” The reopening promised a fabulous celebration, with locals invited to join what was set to be an emotional and joyful night.

Taxi convoy around Marbella for the elderly.

IN Marbella, Christmas shines brightest when its light touches every heart, especially those who feel forgotten. This deeply caring spirit inspires one of the town’s most touching traditions. On this note, the eighth ‘Paseo de la Ilusión Taxi Luz’ warmed souls once more. Over 150 elderly residents were gently whisked away in a loving convoy of 50 taxis, turned into glowing ‘light sleighs’ for the evening. Drivers become compassionate volunteer guides, collecting each person from their home to share joy, ease loneliness, and

remind them they are cherished this Christmas. This heartfelt initiative brought together Marbella Council and the devoted Taxi Solidario association - whose volunteers once drove aid all the way to Ukraine. The evening began at 6.30pm with a cosy light meal at Gamonal restaurant, filled with laughter and the soulful sounds of a traditional zambomba navideña, stirring cherished memories. Then came the magical tour: gliding through the illuminated streets of Marbella and San Pedro Alcantara, where se-

niors can marvel at the dazzling lights without any barriers, wrapped in comfort and companionship. This beautiful tradition reveals Marbella’s profound generosity, showing how simple acts of kindness on wheels can fill hearts with light and prove that no one spends Christmas alone.
