AMTRAK POSTERS Set of typographic and illustrative posters created for Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express. These posters focus on the affordability of the line (left) and the architecture and natural beauty present throughout all the cities that the Ethan Allen Express travels through on its route.

ADVOCACY POSTERS These posters were created for the Sunrise Movement, a radical environmentalist group, with the aim to deter individuals from fossil fuel usage. These posters were hand created with paintbrushes (left) and spray painted stencils (right), then scanned and digitally manipulated.
We must make climate change an urgent priority across America and end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics.

TIMELINE POSTER With the goal to create and render a non-linear timeline, this poster was designed to explain the tragedy of the 1875 Ripley Opera House Fire. In this poster, each block of body copy explains the time of each event leading up to and during the fire and is placed on the blueprint in the area where the event occurred.
Smoke starts rising from the building and is noticed and reported by residents on the block.
After consuming the individual shops and working it’s way toward the center of the building, the flames become visible through windows and doors, confirming to the nearby buildings that the Opera House is actually on fire.
As the fire grew completely out of control, firefighters diverted their attention to the back and sides of the building, confining the destruction to the inside of the building. The new plan was to prevent the fire from spreading.
The sides of the Opera House collapse due to the fire, the southern half of the building seeing the most damage. The collapse crushed the roofs of the two adjoining buildings.
Firefighters arrive and start working on reducing flames, they found, though, that the height of the building was inhibiting to the fight.
The Opera House finishes construction, towering over the rest of the block, and is opened to the public. It is well known in the town and widely used.
The fire is finally put out after roughly 3 hours. After the building is safe to enter, investigation began as to what caused the fire, if it was intentional, and if the building could be salvaged at all.
The front face of the Opera House collapses into the street after an hour of attempting to put out the flames. The collapse of this wall does not injure any fire fighters or civilians.

The Opera House catches fire, the original spark beginning in the building’s harness shop owned by M.C. Hayes.
Almost a decade later, the Opera house was rebuilt by the original builder, William Y. Ripley. It was brought back into use by the community for years to come.
COLLAGE POSTER With the goal of designing a collage that emmulates the European influences on Early American design, this poster was created with typography taken from modern magazines and abstracted to become visual color. The composition itself is a reference to the editorial magazine cover that was popularized during this era.

FRENCH FOLD In a project meant to explore the work of unsung graphic designers of the past, this French Fold mailer advertises an art exhibit on Dorothy Waugh at the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas. Pulling typographic and illustrative themes from Dorothy Waugh’s original work, this mailer emmulates her body of work while attempting to appeal to a modern audience.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Educated at the Chicago Art Institute, Waugh was a graphic designer, illustrator, editor, and teacher. She created at least 16 national and state park posters around 1934, amidst the Depression. Later in her career, she taught at the New York School of Fine and Applied Art.
NYT EDITORIAL Using a New York Times article and photos as a base, this editorial layout was created with the intention of developing typesetting skills.

BOOK COVERS This set of book covers was created using Wolfgang Weingart’s text as a base. The purpose of this project was to see how far typography could be pushed in both small and large directions.

EDITORIAL ART As part of a further exploration into the Sunrise Movement, this editorial illustration was designed based on a New York Times article written about the organization. It depicts a man chopping down a smokestack, as one would a tree. It conceptually represents organizations and institutions abandoning the fossil fuel industry and in turn, slowly breaking down the industry.

ABSTRACTION These illustrations are part of a larger project focused on the abstraction and symbolism of recognizable objects. This set specifically shows minimal, cultural, pattern, and one line representations of a chicken.

STORYBOOK This illustration was created to be printed at 3 feet by 3 feet. It was created based on a wide set of illustration styles found in old storybooks. It was created digitally, with handmade textures on top.

MEDIA POSTERS These posters were created as part of a personal project exploring the different ways to create and render 3D models. The posters are based on shows and movies I felt had a strong cutltural impact in recent years. All imagery in these posters were created in Blender, with some type being rendered in 3D, and some being set in InDesign after rendering the image.
