OVERVIEW
This project tackled creating a brand identity for a brand that is not as inherently fun or cool as something like a food truck or a coffee shop. This project tasked us with the creation of a logo and a brand system of a company that has been overlooked by designers in the past.
Overall I thought this project was a great exploration into creating an entire system of elements and finding ways for them to work together. I felt like it was a great culmination of all of the skills we have worked on for the past two years.
For this project, we had to conduct research into the company we were assigned and learn about the current landscape of design in that field. Using that knowledge, we created three distinct identities for our brand, refine them, then work our way down to one identity to fully flesh out.
Though this project was pretty long, I think the amount of time we took genuinely helped make each step of the project a lot more clear. We probably could have done it at a faster pace, but I think the pace we actually completed it at was helpful.

There were a lot of moments where I felt like I had no clue which concept was working the best, and I think being able to work through that and get a better understanding of how to filter through feedback and critique to pick one to more forward with was immensely helpful to me as a designer.
For this project, I worked with Index Restaurant Supply, an industrial restaurant supply company located in Kansas City, Missouri.

HISTORY OF INDEX
TAGLINE IDEAS
Index Restaurant Supply opened its doors in 1946 with owner Earl R. Juul. Earl came from a family of meat cutters that came over from Denmark and went into the meat cutting business as well. He was overworked and under-paid so he decided to open his own grocery business called Index Refrigeration Company in 1946. Earl owned three small grocery stores and started selling their products to meat lockers. When Earl’s son, Earl J. Juul got into the business in 1955, he decided to stop selling to meat lockers and start selling their products to restaurants. That’s when the name was finally changed to Index Restaurant Supply. Earl R. thought of the name index like the index in a book, because it has everything you need.

Concept 1-
Everything PLUS the Kitchen Sink This concept shows that this is a company that has been around a long time, they’ve seen it all and can show it. They have a large collection of whatever your restaurant needs, and you can find it, just like you would find a book in an index. This has some clutter, like a hidden gem bookstore you’d find downtown. And as a family owned business, it definitely has a “well loved” feel, though you have no need to worry about your product being well loved... until it gets to you.

Concept 2-
Know Your Kitchen Inside and Out This concept centers around the idea of these guys knowing their product inside and out, down to the nuts and bolts. With a masculine feel, this concept pulls from industrial themes, the grit and texture of the backs of fridges and insides of ovens. This has strong detail oriented elements and a bit of edge to it from wear and tear.

Where Quality Meets Your Kitchen Pulling from the stainless steel finish and sleek feel of a brand new kitchen appliance, this concept is a bit more modern and would be a refreshing feel for this company. This concept show you how your kitchen will feel after working with us. It pulls from the idea of a watch or clock, mixed with the durable stainless steel, showing that like a well made watch, their quality products will stand the test of time.
