Dear Neighbors,

Commission Editorial

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez

Kudos to Emily and Melanie Altuve and their mom who saved a two-year old boy from drowning! It was an honor to talk with Emily, and join Challenger Elementary’s Principal Zdanowicz, Asst. Principal Dunbar-Creary, and Teacher Ms. Hollis in celebrating Emily’s heroism.

Thank you to the 400+ people who came out to support the 2025 Furever Friends Pet Expo! Commissioner Wright and I are grateful to the eight pet rescues and companion organizations along with the American Red Cross who conducted pet CPR sessions, Tamarac Fire Rescue who conducted handsonly CPR, and over 40 pet and people vendors. Visit www.Tamarac.me/FureverFriends2025 to view photos from the event and stay tuned for the 2026 Pet Expo date soon.

At this time of year, we come together as a grateful nation to honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women of our military. We recognized Vietnam War Veterans on March 29th, observe National Military Appreciation Month in May and Memorial Day on May 26th, celebrate Women Veterans on June 12th and recognize Korean War Veterans on July 27th. We honor and thank these heroes each and every day!

Personal note: On March 1st, our sweet little Rosco took the peaceful passage over the rainbow bridge. He was a rescue who was loved and adored. Rosco gave us a great life of unconditional love and joy! He made everyone smile when he’d visit City Hall and walked around Paws with Claus. To say Rosco will be missed is an understatement, but we know he is in a place full of continuous belly-rubs, unlimited treats, and endless love!

Happy Passover, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Eid al-Adha, Juneteenth, and first day of summer! And congratulations, graduates!

Warm regards, Michelle

pring is in full bloom, and with it comes fresh opportunities to connect, grow, and make a meaningful impact in our community. As we move through April, May, and June, I want to take a moment to celebrate our shared progress and highlight what’s ahead.

From introducing residential assistance programs to keeping our sidewalks clean and accessible, we’ve been hard at work addressing the needs of our community. Through initiatives like expanded driveway permits and first-time homebuyer support, we’re helping residents navigate important changes and opportunities. Additionally, our ongoing efforts in sidewalk cleaning and infrastructure improvements continue to create a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone.

April kicked-off following an incredible gala where we honored outstanding women advocating for our City. In May, we’re looking forward to the Neighborhood District 4 Meeting May 29, at 6:30 p.m. (location to be announced) where we’ll discuss key neighborhood developments. June will bring continued engagement, with updates on golf course renovations and more community-driven initiatives.

One of the most exciting ways we’re staying connected is through our new “Chew & Chat” series— an opportunity to sit down in your neighborhood and talk about the issues that matter most. Our recent

discussions have helped residents voice concerns on parking, expanding sidewalks, and other community improvements. We’ve also welcomed the Code Department into these conversations to provide realtime answers and solutions.

As your Vice Mayor, I’m here to support you. Your voices drive the change we make, and together, we’re creating a City that listens, grows, and thrives. Stay engaged, get involved, and let’s keep the momentum going!

Follow my Instagram @DrKiciaDanielViceMayor for updates. I look forward to seeing you out and about this spring!

Commission Editorial Commissioner Morey Wright, District 2

As we transition into the vibrant spring and summer seasons, I would like to extend my best wishes for a safe, enjoyable and relaxing time ahead. Recently, the Tamarac Mayor, Commission and City Manager traveled to Tallahassee to meet with legislators about important issues, including the rising cost of home insurance. We remain committed to advocating for the best interests of our residents.

I’m excited to announce the launch of “Commissioner on Your Corner,” where residents can speak directly with me about their concerns and ideas. I’ve had productive conversations with Woodlands residents on topics like beautification, green space for Glades West Golf Course, speeding in Mainlands 8 & 9 and requests for Spanish correspondence in Lime Bay. In collaboration with Code and BSO, we are bringing a more personalized approach right to your doorstep.

Lastly, congratulations to Tamarac Fire Rescue as they celebrated 50 years of dedicated service to our community. They have not only been a vital part of Tamarac’s safety and well-being, but also an award-winning department that is recognized for their excellence and commitment.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me at Morey.Wright@ Tamarac.org. I am here to serve you, and I look forward to connecting with you soon.

DFROM THE CITY COMMISSION Commission Editorial

Commissioner Krystal Patterson, District 3

District 3,

Spring is in full swing, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead for our community. Over the past few months, we have come together to celebrate our history, uplift our residents, and lay the foundation for continued progress in Tamarac. As we move into the next quarter, I look forward to building on this momentum and working with you to make District 3 even stronger.

Mark Your Calendar: District 3 Townhall

I look forward to connecting with you at our District 3 Townhall on May 21, at 6:30 PM at Woodmont Country Club. This is your chance to stay informed, share your thoughts, and hear about the latest projects. I hope to see you there!

District 3 Residential Assistance Program

Senior Advisory Committee Approved

Keeping my promise, I championed the creation of the Senior Advisory Committee, which has now been approved! This committee will advocate for seniors, ensuring they have access to housing, healthcare, and social services in Tamarac.

It was inspiring to see our diverse community come together at the One Tamarac Multicultural Festival. I was proud to launch the District 3 Residential Assistance Program, securing $230,000 to help residents with HOA/condo fees, rent, mortgages, and utilities. Seniors and public service workers will be prioritized.

Honoring Kings Point

I am proud to announce that NW 80th Street is now dual-named “Kings Point Way” to honor the 9,000+ residents of Kings Point. This community is an integral part of Tamarac, and I’m honored to help ensure its legacy is recognized.

Advocating for District 3 in Tallahassee

In February, we traveled to Tallahassee to fight for funding and legislative support for Tamarac. I’m thrilled to share that we pushed for $1.5M in funding for critical projects:

• $750K – Expanding the Underground Fiber Network to enhance public safety, Wi-Fi, and storm resilience.

• $750K – Upgrading wastewater infrastructure to modernize lift stations and protect public health. Beyond funding, I advocated for affordable housing, public transit, condo assessment reform, and property tax relief—issues that directly impact our community.

Thank you for your trust and support. I am committed to serving you with dedication and passion. My door is always open!

Warm regards,

Krystal Patterson, MPA, FRA-RA City Commissioner, District 3

ARE YOU READY FOR THE 2025 HURRICANE SEASON?

The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season offi cially begins on June 1. Here are a few tips to help you safely weather a storm.

EVALUATE YOUR RISK

• Tamarac isn’t in a mandatory evacuation zone; however, parts of the City are in fl ood zones. Review the 2025 Flood Brochure that’s included in this edition of Tam-A-Gram to determine whether your property is in a fl ood zone. Through the guide, you will also learn about fl ood hazards and insurance. Additional fl ood information is available at www.Tamarac.org/420.

• Consider the special needs of all household members. Don’t forget your pets!

• Review insurance policies before the start of the hurricane season to ensure you understand your coverage. Insurance providers prohibit individuals from purchasing new homeowners’ insurance policies or raising the coverage limits on existing policies when a natural disaster is approaching.

MAKE A PLAN

• Decide in advance whether you’ll stay or evacuate.

• Make pre-storm arrangements if you need help installing shutters and preparing your home.

• Share your plans with friends and family before a hurricane. Be sure to also have a post-storm communication plan.

BE PREPARED

• Repair, update and hurricane-proof your home before the start of hurricane season.

• Trim trees before a hurricane threatens to ensure debris is collected in advance.

• Stock up on supplies and medicines family members need. For suggested provisions, visit www.Ready.gov/Build-a-Kit.

• Have gas in your car and cash on hand when a storm threatens. Gas pumps and ATMs may not work in post-storm power outages.

• For additional details about storm preparation, visit www.Tamarac.org/EmergencyManagement.

BE AWARE

• Monitor local news and weather announcements, especially once storm watches and warnings are declared.

• Visit www.Tamarac.org/CodeRED to sign up for free CodeRED emergency notifications.

• For City emails, click the “Stay Connected” button on the homepage to subscribe to the “City-At-Large” and “District” lists.

• Watch for regular hurricane updates on the City’s website and social media.

TAMARAC’S ANNUAL MULTICULTURAL OPEN-AIR FESTIVAL

No passport was required, as guests enjoyed cultural performances, international cuisine and a vendor market at the vibrant and inclusive One Tamarac Multicultural Festival held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Tamarac Sports Complex. The celebration featured energetic entertainment by Cachi Y Saoco Nuevo and soulful rhythms by headliner Dancing on The Ceiling, an 8-piece Lionel Richie and Commodores tribute band. The community stage featured international acts by Thai Nattasin, Venezuela Danza Y Tambor, Voces De America, Drake Irish Dance School and the Junkanoo Band. Across the lawn stretching the length of the field was a lineup of bounce houses, kid-friendly activity booths and life-sized lawn games for the whole family. As the stars began to twinkle, the City’s laser light show lit up the sky to close the evening.

HELPFUL WATER SAFETY TIPS

Many Floridians enjoy spending hot summer days by the pool, but amidst the fun and laughter, safety must remain a priority. Tragedy can strike in an instant when precautions are overlooked.

Florida leads the nation in drowning deaths among children ages 1 to 4, according to the Florida Department of Health. Nationally, drowning is the leading cause of death for children in this age group.

Between Florida being surrounded by water and many homes having backyard pools, teaching children to swim is not optional—it’s essential. The City of Tamarac’s Caporella Aquatic Center provides swimming lessons and critical water safety programs. Visit www.CaporellaAquaticCenter.com to learn more and take action today.

Join the City for a day of fun, learning and, most importantly, ensuring the safety of our community in and around water at the Pirate Plunge & Safety Sail, on Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m., at the Caporella Aquatic Complex. The event delivers hands-on life-saving swim skills. Preregistration is required by visiting www.Tamarac.me/Events. Admission is free.

GREEN SCENE:

HELPFUL WATER SAFETY REMINDERS FROM TAMARAC FIRE RESCUE:

• Never leave a child alone in or near water, not even to refill your drink. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, it only takes 20 seconds for a child to drown. That’s about the same amount of time it takes to read and respond to the average text message.

• Leave all distractions, including your phone and tablet, inside and closely watch those in the pool. Not only does drowning happen quickly, but in many cases, it’s a silent tragedy.

• Install fences and alarms around your pool or lake. It can save a life!

• Call Tamarac Fire Rescue at (954) 597-3800 or visit www.Tamarac.org/ CPR to sign up for CPR and first-aid training.

• Always call 911 in case of an emergency.

Spring is here! Whether you conduct a thorough cleaning routine every spring or quarterly, here are some tips to assist in maintaining an environmentally friendly and eco-conscious approach to cleaning.

• Declutter before cleaning. You can donate unwanted items to give them new life instead of discarding them.

• Replace disposable paper towels with reusable and washable alternatives like cut-up old T-shirts for cleaning purposes.

• Create an all-purpose cleaner by combining 1/4 cup of vinegar, 3/4 cup of water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional) in a spray bottle.

• Reusing and repurposing household items can give them a new purpose. For instance, a shoebox can effectively organize small items, and an empty spice container can store paper clips or thumbtacks.

TAMARAC FIRE RESCUE CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF SERVICE

On January 25, Tamarac Fire Rescue celebrated its 50th anniversary at Station 36, which kicked-o with an opening ceremony by the Tamarac Honor Guard. Guests enjoyed live demonstrations, including a fire sprinkler side-by-side burn, vehicle extrication with a medical scenario and a push-in ceremony for the brand-new Engine 36. The event brought together retired and current firefighters, including one of the first hired firefighters, the American Red Cross, Sparky the Fire Dog and more to honor Tamarac Fire Rescue’s past, present and future. The celebration highlighted how far Tamarac Fire Rescue has come since its inception. In 1975, the Public Safety Unit operated from the original City Hall on Rock Island Road, using a picnic table for meetings and even slept on the Commission Chamber floor to stay ready for emergencies. In 1978, the City opened its first fire station—where Station 41 stands today on Pine Island Road. Fast forward to today, Tamarac Fire Rescue is stronger than ever, running more than 14,000 emergency incidents out of four fire stations with 132 employees.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Natacha Rodriguez has always had a heart for giving back to her community, and she turned that passion into action by launching in-person Spanish classes with the City of Tamarac in January 2000. These classes switched to Zoom in 2020 when in-person classes were temporarily suspended due to COVID-19; she’s been leading her Spanish classes on Zoom ever since. “I wanted to give back to the community, help others learn a new language, gain teaching experience, and connect with people.” Thanks to her dedication, she’s built a loyal following of students. We’re incredibly grateful for her unwavering commitment to keeping the class going for all these years. Thank you, Natacha!
