Project 1: Bauhaus

1/3 : shape composition, line and texture

Based on the German art school of Bauhaus, which focused heavily on simple geometric shapes, this exercise was to think about forms and their relation to each other and space. Graphite and colored pencil on 18x24 Bristol paper.

2/3 : Picnic and Sections

On the colored rendering, a path and picnic blanket were added, as well as scale figures, to start a conversation about scale. The shapes were then given materials and heights and drawn as section elevations. The triangle is a 5’ deep reflecting pool, the circle is a 10’ tall grass mound, the square is a 30’ tall concrete monolith, and the background is a 5’ tall field of flowers. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil on trace paper.

3/3: Modeling

To visualize the space in 3D, a real site on campus was selected to place the forms upon. Scale models were created in SketchUp and with plasticine clay.

Project 2: Takoma-Langley Urban Replenish Park

1/3 : Site Analysis + Concepts

This is a real site located at 7645 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland. It is a severely sloped plot of disturbed urban land covered in grass. Clients who worked for the city gave advice and critiques. Pictured here are site analyses done in Photoshop, and two basic concepts done by hand. The board was part of a group project with two other members.

2/3 : Concepts + Final Site Plan

Multiple designs were considered before a final design was settled. Final features a central plaza with garden, two overlook pavillions, and naturalized planting. Done with alcohol markers on trace paper.

3/3 : Concepts + Final Site Plan

Accompanying the final site plan were multiple hand-drawn perspective views of various areas on the site, including the overlook pavillions and main entrance. A section was also cut to show elevation change, and preliminary sketches are to the left for comparison.

Project 3: Colorplay Park

1/2 : Analysis, Concepts, and Final Plan

This is another real site located at 3400 Stanford St, Hyattsville, MD, AKA the University Hills Dunk Pond. The client was Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission, who provided guidelines and a program to follow. Initial site inventory and analysis was conducted. A geometric design was chosen. Left images are graphite, pen, and marker on trace paper, and right is rendered in Lumion.

Project 3: Colorplay Park

Part 2: Concepts + Final Site Plan

A SketchUp model was built from scratch of the site. Built elements were added and materials were colored, then it was brought into Lumion to add vegetation and realistic textures. Pictured are the Colorplay Pavillions, the Boardwalk, the main entrance, and an aerial image of the hardscape. Figures added to show scale.
