MAY 2019

Dear Friends of HIPICO Santa Fe, The Santa Fe Summer Series turns five this year! It is hard to believe that HIPICO Santa Fe and our signature event, the Santa Fe Summer Series, have been a part of the horse show circuit in the Southwest since 2015. That year, in less than six months, we worked with lightning speed at HIPICO Santa Fe to install new proprietary blend textile arenas, thousands of feet of arena fencing, a RV park, sound system, over 300 stalls, new wells and water lines, an abundance of electricity to various corners of the site and provided long-overdue maintenance to our beautiful grass fields. Each year since our inception, we work to improve and build upon site elements as well as those aspects of the show that our clients, sponsors and spectators have told us they value. We continue to strive to be the horse show that provides the finest in hospitality and service, from our friendly show office, continuously maintained grass fields and arenas, comfortable and shaded viewing areas and unique VIP lounge to our welcoming staff who greet you at the gate upon arrival— we want to be the show you can’t wait to attend each year! We are pleased to welcome John McQueen and Queenie Productions back to the Santa Fe Summer Series for their second year at HIPICO. We know that John and his staff will be looking for ways to inject even more fun into our shows and can’t wait to see what he has planned for 2019! New this year, we are excited to welcome the USHJA 2019 Zone 7/8 Platinum Individual and Team Jumper Championships during Sonrisa Week, July 24-28. Speaking of fun, we are pleased to offer the 2nd Annual Battle of the Flags, which sprang to life in 2018 thanks to the diligent, and highly competitive, efforts of a few of our most illustrious competitors who saw an opportunity to settle, at least for a year, the question of which state deserves to fly its flag on the tallest flagpole in our Grand Prix arena. Will New Mexico be able to vanquish Texas, Colorado and California again in 2019? Will other states join in the team fun? Don’t miss

this class, scheduled for Saturday, August 10 (Grand Prix de Santa Fe Week), to find out! If you are looking for ways to extend your summer fun, you’ll be in the right place as Split Rock Jumping Tour joins us at HIPICO Santa Fe, August 14-18, 2019 for the inaugural Santa Fe International CSI2*. Come see why Split Rock Jumping Tour is the talk of the show jumping world, providing a truly entertaining sporting event that has revolutionized the way competitors, sponsors and spectators benefit from an international show jumping event in the United States. For more information about Split Rock Jumping Tour and the Santa Fe International CSI2*, visit www.splitrockjumpingtour.com/santa-fe-csi3. Back by popular demand, don’t miss the Sale Horse Exhibition Class (all weeks) and Fiesta Sale Horse Auction (Saturday, August 3). Details can be found on page 46 and interested sellers can now request a spot in the auction using our Fiesta Horse Auction Application, located on page 81 of this Premium. And, as always, we are pleased to offer our ever-popular $5,000 Sandia BMW & MINI Ride-and-Drive, All-in-One Grand Prix, World Champion Hunter Rider Member Event, $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derbies and $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby (Santa Fe Fiesta Week). Returning for a second year, the $5,000 “El Jefe” Professional Hunter Rider Bonus will be paid to the top three high point professional hunter riders competing in at least three of the Santa Fe Summer Series shows. And, the $5,000 1.2m AOHCJI Challenge (Sonrisa Week) still offers an additional prize to the competitor who guesses the meaning of the AOHCJI acronym! We look forward to seeing you this summer and thank you for your support of the HIPICO Santa Fe Summer Series!

Sincerely, The Organizers of HIPICO Santa Fe

GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION JUMP ORDER: Show Management will determine a rotating jump order for all classes over fences. Riders or trainers with conflicts must see the paddock masters in both rings so that the necessary adjustments can be made. Starters have the authority to scratch entries that make no attempt to be timely, without going through the Steward or Show Manager. RINGS/FOOTING: Grand Prix Ring is 200’ x 630’, Jumper Ring 2 is 300’ x 190’, BMW/Mini Hunter Ring 1 is 150’ x 300’, Hunter Ring 2 is 300’ x 145’, Derby Field is 230’ x 355’ and Carino Grass Field 150’ x 630’. Footing in Hunter 1, Hunter 2 and Jumper 2 is sand composite with textile. Grand Prix Jumper Ring, Derby Field and Carino Field are grass. RASS FIELD: Many of the classes held during the HIPICO show season take place on our grass fields. Grass footing is considered G by many to be the best footing for horse sport. As it is natural, grass conditions vary depending on moisture, grass length, time of year, usage and other natural conditions. Listed below are a few tips for safe riding on the grass to help you have the best possible horse show experience. • Consult with your farrier to ensure proper shoeing for competition on grass. • We suggest that you inspect the grass on the day of your ride to determine the condition. • Sign up for a class that will be a “practice” ride if you’ve never ridden on grass before. • Ride conservatively for your first round on grass, to become accustomed to these different conditions. • Slow down your turns: Your horse needs to be balanced when executing quick turns, accelerating and decelerating on grass footing. There are many weather and natural situations that impact the condition of the grass. The staff at HIPICO will do everything we can to ensure the best possible conditions, but be aware that there are many factors outside of our control. With proper preparation, knowledge and equipment, competitors can enjoy our grass footing safely. OURSES: Courses will be posted a minimum of one hour prior to each class. In Hunter classes, fences will simulate fences C found in the hunt field such as; brush, wall, in and out, oxer, post and rails, and gates. At management’s discretion, a dotted line may be put into effect to restrict the size of the courtesy circle in hunter classes. IBBONS/PRIZE/CHAMPIONSHIPS: All hunter classes to receive a redeemable HIPI Chip for a prize to first place and ribbons R to eighth place, unless otherwise noted. All equitation and jumper classes receive a redeemable HIPI Chip for an award of choice and ribbons to sixth place, unless otherwise noted. Each hunter and jumper section will receive a champion and reserve award based on points unless otherwise noted. Full Championship points will be given in all classes in each hunter section except Conformation Model classes, which will count as half points. In all hunter sections, champion and reserve champion will be awarded to two of the top four horses acquiring the most points over fences. These four horses will also receive full points for one under saddle class. RIZES: Prize money is indicated for each class. Prize money can be applied toward each horse’s show bill. An IRS W-9 form P must be completed in full before any prize money can be paid. Prize money will be withheld if the recipient’s’ Social Security number is not on file. Prize money will be payable to the owner unless written authorization and complete alternate payee information is on file with the show secretary. Attention foreign exhibitors: All fees MUST be paid in US funds. Foreign exhibitors are advised that the US Internal Revenue Service requires sporting events to withhold 30% of the prize money won in the United States. Foreign exhibitors should apply for a US Social Security number and complete FORM W8— BEN prior to any prize money being paid. PRIZE MONEY DISTRIBUTION: Prize monies will be paid as follows unless specified otherwise in the class/section description.

Check or credit card must be on file in order for Show Management to hold RV reservation and PAYMENT IN FULL must be made by close of entries to guarantee RV slot, no exceptions. RV fee will not be refunded after close of entries unless accompanied by a note from an authorized mechanic. Seriously, a refund will be issued in the event the RV space(s) can be filled from an existing wait list, in the event that the RV park is in a sold out position, at the discretion of management. Campers may arrive on or after Monday at noon and depart by noon on Monday of the departure week. Arrangements for early arrivals, and/or late departures, must be made in advance, subject to availability, for a per diem rate based on weekly Camper/RV rental rate. OPERATION OF MOTORIZED VEHICLES: Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the facility grounds. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described vehicles so long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’s license. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance with Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. SHARPS DISPOSAL: Sharps containers will be provided in all barns for the disposal of needles and other disposable sharp instruments. ALL items of this nature MUST be disposed of in the provided containers. NO SHARPS are to be disposed of in any receptacle other than the provided sharps container. Any individual or entity not in compliance will be subject to a $100 fine per USEF 1210.4 RESPONSIBILITY: Submission of entry to this show constitutes an agreement to the following: Competitor agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Grand Prix de Santa Fe, LLC. (dba HIPICO Santa Fe), Queenie Productions, LLC., Welcome Week, Sonrisa Week, Santa Fe Fiesta Week, Grand Prix de Santa Fe Week management and Horse Show officials against any claims, demands, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney fees for the defense thereof, arising from the conduct or management of Competitor’s business or its use of the premises or from any breach on the part of the Competitor of any conditions of this Agreement, or contractors, agents, employees, guests or invitees in or about the premises. In case of any action or proceeding brought against Grand Prix de Santa Fe, LLC. (dba HIPICO Santa Fe), Queenie Productions, LLC., Welcome Week, Sonrisa Week, Santa Fe Fiesta Week, Grand Prix de Santa Fe Week management and Horse Show officials, by reason of such claim, Competitor, upon notice, covenants to defend such action or proceeding by council acceptable to owner. Competitor is responsible for his/ her own property and Grand prix de Santa Fe (dba HIPICO Santa Fe) HIPICO Santa Fe, Queenie Productions, LLC., Welcome Week, Sonrisa Week, Santa Fe Fiesta Week, Grand Prix de Santa Fe Week management and Horse Show officials are not responsible for accidents, fire or theft. ASSUMPTION OF RISK: By signing the entry blank, the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach, Driver, Rider, Handler, Vaulter or Longeur acknowledges that horseback riding, particularly jumping, is a dangerous activity and involves inherent risks that may cause serious injury and in some cases death because of the unpredictable nature and irrational behavior of horses, regardless of their training and past performance and expressly assumes all such inherent risks whether identified herein, in the entry blank or in the Federation Rules and Regulations. A horse, without warning or any apparent cause, can buck, stumble, fall, rear, bite, kick, run, make unpredictable movements, spook, jump obstacles, step on a person’s foot, or push a person—all of which may cause the rider or observer to fall or be jolted, resulting in serious injury or death. A horse may also become loose and cause injury to an observer or rider or to another horse–a loose horse can run at full gallop in a panic and run into objects or persons or other horses. The Show Ground Facilities are bordered by highways/roads and thus noise from traffic and other sources occurs that can and will cause a horse to unexpectedly spook or react quickly. The Show Ground Facilities contain roads and driveways that are traversed by cars, golf carts, tractors, trailers and heavy equipment all of which may spook a horse. The above warnings and risks are meant as an example of some of the risks that are inherent and may be encountered but it is agreed this is not an exhaustive list and there are numerous additional conditions and/or events that may result in injuries while participating in the Competition and/or being present on the Show Ground Facilities.
