Page 1

From the Head of School

Dear Epiphany School Community,

As I reflect on the 2023-24 school year, I’m tremendously proud of and inspired by all that we were able to accomplish together. Thanks to the generous contributions of so many, we were able to surpass our annual fundraising goals, introduce new programing and professional development opportunities, and continue to ensure Epiphany School remains one of the top choices for elementary school in Seattle.

I’m grateful to each and every one of our dedicated faculty and staff who created joyful learning experiences for their students. Huge thanks go to our trustees, parents, and alumni who donated countless hours in myriad ways to support our school and help our community shine.

For the second year in a row, we surpassed $500,000 in support of the Annual Fund, achieving an incredible 100% participation from current families and board members. GATHER: Sapphire Sky welcomed 270 attendees and raised an impressive $338,000 for our financial aid program. Our community also contributed over 5,000 volunteer hours, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to our school’s continued success.

In addition, your support helped advance the shared mission that we all hold dear by enabling us to launch a new Outdoor Education program, enrich student learning with technology upgrades and additions throughout our school, and expand our teacher-leader program to increase both mentorship and professional learning opportunities so all faculty can thrive.

In the pages that follow, we celebrate the contributions of our community and highlight some of the inspiring stories that your generosity has brought to life. Your ongoing support ensures that we’ll be able to continue investing in the exceptional, ever-evolving learning environment that makes our school so special. If you haven’t been on campus recently, come visit! The Epiphany magic is alive and well.

Warmly,

What does Epiphany School mean to you and your family?

Epiphany School means community to us. It’s where my parents found a sense of belonging, where I made lifelong friends, and now, as a parent, it’s where I’m rediscovering that same sense of connection. Watching my daughter build meaningful relationships, just as I did as a student, feels incredibly special.

What inspires your continued support of Epiphany School?

I’m inspired by the opportunity to give back to a place that has shaped my life in such a profound way. Epiphany provided me with an education that shaped my journey and even inspired me to become a teacher. Seeing that same positive influence on my daughter, who is here now, and knowing it could shape the futures of our younger daughters when they join, fills me with gratitude and motivates me to support this incredible community.

What feels meaningful about giving to Epiphany School?

How do you see your gift making a difference?

Giving back is deeply important to me—it’s a value instilled by my parents. I see my gift enabling the school to address needs that go beyond the regular budget, like adapting during unexpected challenges. For example, during COVID, the school had to reimagine education delivery, and the flexibility provided by community support helped make that possible. I feel good knowing our contributions support the school’s ability to respond to similar needs and enhance the educational experience for all students.

Are there specific programs or aspects of Epiphany that you’re especially passionate about supporting?

As a former teacher, I’m particularly passionate about supporting the educators and programs that have the greatest impact on students. It’s important to me that the school has the resources to go above and beyond, whether that’s through scholarships, enriching academic programs, or addressing unforeseen needs. Knowing my contributions help make that possible is incredibly meaningful to me.

2023-2024

Annual Fund

Epiphany School’s Annual Fund is a crucial philanthropic initiative that provides the resources needed to meet both the immediate and long-term needs of our school, ensuring the ongoing success of our students. Support for the Annual Fund has allowed us to enhance our Music, Drama, and Movement programs; expand our Extended Day offerings; and launch our new Outdoor Education program. Additionally, the Annual Fund supports our faculty and staff by creating leadership opportunities, funding professional development, and providing the resources necessary to attract and retain exceptional educators.

Family Giving Participation by Student Class Year

2023 Annual Fund Committee

In the 2023-24 school year, we raised over $500,000, with 100% participation from current families. This remarkable achievement reflects the strength of our community and the unwavering belief in the important progress being made at Epiphany School every day. Annual

Ways to Give

Thank you for your support of Epiphany School! Whatever way you choose to give, please know that your contribution — of any amount — makes a meaningful impact on our school. There are several options available for making a gift to Epiphany School:

Online or Mail

Make a one-time or recurring donation using our online donation platform, which allows for secure transactions. You also have the opportunity to contribute by mail with a personal, foundation, or business check.

Pledges

A pledge is a promise to donate a certain amount of money over a designated period of time. You can choose to fulfill your pledge with a one-time donation or a series of payments before the donation deadline. Pledging your intended donation allows you to commit your support to the Annual Fund while paying on a timeline that works best for you.

Stocks & Securities

This option can be a strategic way to maximize tax benefits and, often, minimize capital gains taxes. You can easily transfer stock electronically to our school’s brokerage account. The value of your gift and tax deduction is the mean price of the stock on the date of transfer.

Matching Gifts

Many companies offer a matching gift program to encourage philanthropy among their employees. As a result, you may be able to double, or even triple, the impact of your gift! Matching gifts are counted toward your annual giving in our donor recognition categories.

Donor-Advised Funds

Utilizing a donor-advised fund (DAF) offers many benefits, including the option to fund it with assets such as cash or appreciated stock, providing an immediate tax deduction. There are two primary ways to support Epiphany School through a DAF: by recommending grants or designating Epiphany School as a beneficiary. During your lifetime, you can make donations to Epiphany School by recommending grants from your DAF.

Endowment Funds

The Epiphany School Endowment was created in 1983 to ensure the financial stability of the school. It has grown to more than $16 million today. The corpus is kept in place; the earnings from the endowment provide monies for special projects, financial aid, faculty development, arts enrichment, technology, buildings, and grounds and learning skills.

The establishment of the Endowment Fund Campaign in 1983 was spearheaded by Mr. Jack Goodfellow and a committee of past presidents of the Epiphany School Board of Trustees. Below are highlights about a few of our named endowments:

NEW! Candi Coe Memorial Endowment

The Candi Coe Memorial Endowment Fund was established in 2024 and is dedicated to supporting the children of Epiphany School’s faculty and staff. Our aim is to ensure that the doors to a world-class education at Epiphany School remain wide open to the entire school community. This endowment will provide financial assistance to eligible students of current faculty and staff, helping them pursue their academic dreams and participate fully in the vibrant life of Epiphany School.

Arts Fund

Established in 1992, the purpose of this fund is to provide funding to our art program to allow students to be creative and express their artistic curiosities.

Augustine Hall Maintenance

Established in 1998, the purpose of this fund is to cover ongoing improvements and maintenance of Augustine Hall. It is named after Epiphany School’s seventh Head of School, Jean Augustine.

Dorothy Griffin Learning Skills Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1984 by Matt and Cameron Griffin, in honor of their mother, Dorothy P. Griffin, to honor her upon retirement from 15 years of teaching Learning Skills at Epiphany School. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial aid to Epiphany School students requiring supplemental Learning Skills support and tutoring to learn and thrive in school and to reach their full potential.

Faculty Enrichment

This fund was established in 1983 by the Board of Trustees to support teacher professional development.

Financial Aid Endowment

Established in 1990, the purpose of this fund is to provide tuition support to families who may not otherwise be able to afford an Epiphany School education.

General Buildings & Grounds

Established in 1990, the purpose of this fund is to support and maintain the historic buildings and grounds of the Epiphany School campus.

George O. Edwards Faculty Enrichment

This fund was established in 2008 by the Board of Trustees, in honor of Epiphany School’s ninth Head of School, George O. Edwards. Inspired by George’s commitment to the ongoing education of his faculty and staff, this fund supports faculty/staff development and enrichment.

Jenny Cummins Children’s Opportunity Fund

Established in 2019 by Jenny and Richard Cummins, the purpose of this fund is to

provide tuition assistance to under-represented students. It is the donor’s preference that the award supports students of African American, African, Hispanic, or Latino origin.
