Southern upset Eastern in their first meeting this season , handing Eastern their first loss of the year, 72-68, in Ashland. * Their first meeting was during their 1937-38 season where EOU fell short 45-49.

* 28 wins is the most wins in EOU history by a men’s basketball team * The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 4 in this week’s NAIA Div. 2 coaches’ poll (Feb. 20, 2013), dropping one spot from the previous week. * Eastern is currently ranked No. 2 in Division 2 in rebound margin and total rebound offense. * Senior, Trent Roos leads the Mountaineers in scoring, averaging 13.4 ppg. * JD Esters is currently ranked 14th in Division II in Total Assists and assists per game and 15th in total assists. He also leads the CCC in assists. * The Mountaineers are the No. 2 seed going into the CCC tournament, losing the tie breaker to the Knight of Warner Pacific. * EOU finished tied for first place in the CCC with 17 wins and 3 losses which markes the first conference championship under head coach, Isaac Williams.

ABOUT THE RAIDERS The Southern Oregon University Raiders finished their regular season play with an overall record of 23-8 and 13-5 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. They are currently on a 7 game win streak after their win against Concordia during their first round of CCC playoffs. The Raiders are led by Eric Thompson who averages 15.74 ppg and shoots .453 from the field.

LAST TIME THEY MET... Jan. 19, 2013

La Grande Ore. – The No. 1 ranked Eastern Oregon men’s basketball team defeated Southern Oregon tonight in a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup, 75-61. EOU’s (22-1, 10-1 CCC) Anthony Brown recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds in tonight’s contest while teammate Trent Roos chipped in with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Southern Oregon (15-7, 7-4 CCC) was led by Taylor Roos with 16 points and 2 rebounds. Jeff Bush contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Eastern was able to get revenge on the lone team to defeat them this season in a physical game that saw three technical fouls in the first half. Southern led for the majority of the first half taking a 6 point lead with under five minutes to play in the half. The Mountaineers relied heavily on their defense and were able to close the gap and take a 4 point lead going into the half, 34-30. In the second half Eastern led by 8 points, 53-45, at the ten minute mark but the Raiders would make a small run of their own and cut the lead to just five with 4:43 left to play. On the ensuing possession Junior transfer JD Esters would knock down a three pointer that would help the Mountaineers take control in the final minutes to defeat Southern , 75-61. The Mountaineers shot 23-of-60 (33% ) from the field for the game and 38% (10-of-26) from behind the arc. The Raiders shot 21-of-50 (42%) from the field and just 6-of-19 (31%) from behind arc.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE With the seeding going down to the final night, the pairing for the 2013 Cascade Conference Men’s Basketball Championships are finally set with the tournament set to begin on Wednesday night at the campus sites of the top four seeds. The top overall seed goes to the Warner Pacific Knights, who earned a share of the regular season title with wins over Eastern Oregon on Friday and College of Idaho on Saturday. They will play host to eighth-seed Corban, who finished the conference season with a record of 5-13. Eastern Oregon is the other co-champion and will be the second seed after finishing the conference portion of the season with a record of 15-3. They will play host to the Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech, who defeated Corban on Saturday to wrap up CCC play with a record of 7-11 after a 1-7 start. Southern Oregon takes the third seed, using a win over Northwest Christian to clinch third place with a record of 13-5. The Raiders will host Concordia on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers earned the sixth seed with a record of 9-9 in conference action. The final matchup features fifth-seed Northwest traveling to fourth-seed College of Idaho. The Yotes and Eagles each finished the conference season with a record of 11-7 but College of Idaho earned the tiebreaker by virtue of winning percentage against opponents .500 and better. The 2013 Cascade Conference Men’s Basketball Championship begins on Wednesday night with all games set to tip at 7 p.m. Wednesday’s winners will meet on Saturday night in the semifinal round with the winners of those games advancing to the championship on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
