* The Mountaineers have played OIT 163 times, the Hustlin’ Owls are leading the series 97-66. * EOU won both meetings this year, breaking a seven game deficit prior to their win at OIT this season. * Their first meeting was during their 1950-51 season where they faced each other four times, splitting the series. * The last time EOU swept their annual meetings was during their 1970-71 season. * This season’s win at OIT was the first time in 33 years that Eastern Oregon defeated the Hustlin’ Owls on their home court.

He also leads the CCC in assists. * The Mountaineers are the No. 2 seed going into the CCC tournament, losing the tie breaker to the Knight of Warner Pacific. * EOU finished tied for first place in the CCC with 17 wins and 3 losses which markes the first conference championship under head coach, Isaac Williams.

ABOUT THE HUSTLIN’ OWLS The Oregon Institute of Technology Hustlin’ Owls ended their regular season play with an overall record of 16-14 and 7-11 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference placing them at seventh in the conference. The Owls are currently on a two game win streak after sweeping last weekend’s games against Northwest Christian and Corban. OIT is currnetly ranked 3rd in Div. 2 in total 3-pt field goals made and 5th in 3-pt fieldgoals made per game. The Hustlin’ Owls are lead by David Clarke who’s averaging 12.71 points per game.

LAST TIME THEY MET... Jan. 18, 2013

La Grande, Ore. – The No. 1 ranked Eastern Oregon men’s basketball team (21-1, 9-1 CCC) defeated Oregon Tech (11-11, 2-8 CCC) tonight in a Cascade Collegiate Conference match-up at Quinn Coliseum. Senior Jason Mumm led all scorers with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Senior Anthony Brown chipped in 14 points and 4 rebounds. OIT was led by David Clarke with 16 points and 4 rebounds, teammate Dani Lopez ended the game with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Early on the Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead holding the Owls to 6 points in the first five minutes while posting 19 points on the scoreboard. Midway through the half the Mountaineers held a 23-11 lead and would go into the locker room up 43-33. EOU shot 16-of-36 (44%) from the field in the first half and 5-of-15 (33% ) from behind the arc. Oregon Tech would shoot 13-of-32 (40%) from the field and 5-of-15 (33%) from behind the arc. In the second half the Mountaineers would come out and go on a 13-0 run and to take their largest lead of the game, 23, led by Mumm’s 7 point spurt. The Owls would go on a run of their own to stop the bleeding and cut the lead down to 13 with 11:39 on the clock. For the remainder of the half the Mountaineers would maintain their double digit lead to sweep the Owls for the first time in 33 years. EOU shot 34-of- 72 (47%) from the field and 8-of-25 from the three. OIT ended the game shooting 28-of-65(43%) from the field and 10-of-28 (35%) from behind the arc. The Mountaineers won the rebound battle grabbing 43 rebounds compared to OIT’s 37 and outscored OIT in points in the paint, 42-26.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE With the seeding going down to the final night, the pairing for the 2013 Cascade Conference Men’s Basketball Championships are finally set with the tournament set to begin on Wednesday night at the campus sites of the top four seeds. The top overall seed goes to the Warner Pacific Knights, who earned a share of the regular season title with wins over Eastern Oregon on Friday and College of Idaho on Saturday. They will play host to eighth-seed Corban, who finished the conference season with a record of 5-13. Eastern Oregon is the other co-champion and will be the second seed after finishing the conference portion of the season with a record of 15-3. They will play host to the Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech, who defeated Corban on Saturday to wrap up CCC play with a record of 7-11 after a 1-7 start. Southern Oregon takes the third seed, using a win over Northwest Christian to clinch third place with a record of 13-5. The Raiders will host Concordia on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers earned the sixth seed with a record of 9-9 in conference action. The final matchup features fifth-seed Northwest traveling to fourth-seed College of Idaho. The Yotes and Eagles each finished the conference season with a record of 11-7 but College of Idaho earned the tiebreaker by virtue of winning percentage against opponents .500 and better. The 2013 Cascade Conference Men’s Basketball Championship begins on Wednesday night with all games set to tip at 7 p.m. Wednesday’s winners will meet on Saturday night in the semifinal round with the winners of those games advancing to the championship on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
