City Year Los Angeles (CYLA) was founded in 2007 and is one of the largest City Year chapters with more than 260 AmeriCorps members impacting nearly 28,000 students As a key partner working with Los Angeles Unified School Districts, CYLA effectively, holistically, and compassionately supports students who need help the most CYLA unites communities of all backgrounds in a positive way to ensure every student feels safe and connected to their school community That’s why 95% of partner principals and vice principals agree that CYLA has an overall positive impact on their school’s climate With an increasing demand for CYLA's services and results, the organization is on a growth trajectory
A five-year analysis found that City Year L A helped schools recover 16,500 days of instruction through student attendance interventions, saving the Los Angeles Unified School District $1.03 million in lost attendance revenue
As a member of the City Year Los Angeles Senior Leadership Team, the incoming Director of Development (DOD) will report to the Executive Director while leading a department team of ten To fill this role, CYLA seeks an experienced and dedicated development professional who will be responsible for creating and implementing the fundraising strategy to raise $8 1M annually as well as a 3-year plan for continued, sustainable revenue growth Building on the organization’s past success, the DOD will direct the management of a robust portfolio of individual and institutional partners, build a strong pipeline of new funding opportunities, improve communications and digital marketing, and ensure successful fundraising events and donor cultivation strategies with a concentrated focus on major gifts
In partnership with the Executive Director, the DOD will instill a clear vision for success and help the team prioritize their goals and actions While building trust with all internal and external stakeholders, the DOD will contribute to the organization’s inclusive, uplifting culture that fuels its program success
With exceptional communication and strategy skills, the next Director of Development will effectively acclimate to and thrive along with the highly collaborative culture of City Year, building strong partnerships with program staff and development staff in other cities Expressing authentic passion for the organization’s mission, the DOD will be a strong spokesperson for the organization to internal and external stakeholders
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and possess a growth mindset, constantly listening and learning to ensure equitable systems and practices This individual must be well versed in community-centric fundraising and inclusive practices for fund development, donor outreach, communications and storytelling In addition to robust experience creating and implementing effective development plans, they will have a strong record of closing five-figure major gifts
