ENMU ATHLETICS NEWS Softball Players Named to Scholar-Athletes List

Eastern New Mexico softball landed six student-athletes on the 2021 Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athletes list.

The accolade is given to students that maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher during the 2020-21 academic year.

The Hounds saw sophomores Haleigh Behncke, Jordan Bowman, Brook Leger, Aylene Lucero, Bella Mendoza and Juliana Vidal all recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom and exemplifying what it means to be a student-athlete.

The rankings and honors acknowledge the academic drive of softball teams across the association’s membership categories. The NFCA set a new high of honorees with over 8,800 student-athletes recognized in 2021.

Four Greyhound Runners Earn LSC All-Conference Honors

Kenyawani and Kosgei placed in the top-15 during the women’s 6K race, earning LSC All-Conference honors.

Kipkemboi earned LSC Men’s Newcomer of the Year after his time of 26:10.88 on the 8K championship course, earning 10th place. The top-10 Kelvin Kipkemboi finish earned LSC All-Conference honors, awarded to the top-15 runners in their respective race.

The Eastern New Mexico cross country program saw four student-athletes earn all-conference honors after the 2021 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships. Kelvin Kipkemboi was awarded Men’s Newcomer of the Year, along with all-conference recognition. Aminata Kenyawani and Dorcas Kosgei also received all-conference honors, while Kayla Sisneros was named Academic Runner of the Year and earned a place on the 2021 Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Sisneros was named Academic Runner of the Year and earned a spot on the 2021 Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team for her efforts in the classroom. It is Sisneros’ first appearance on the LSC All-Academic Team.
