TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Our Teacher Education Program advises and supports students who are interested in becoming educators. We provide students with the necessary professional education requirements to become licensed as teachers in New Mexico. While our education program will prepare students for a licensure in New Mexico, there are also opportunities to obtain an education licensure in other states.

Early Childhood Education: Students can choose this area of interest if they want to work with children from birth through grade 3. Opportunities exist in Early Head Start, Head Start, preschool programs, and in public schools.

Elementary/Special Education: Students can choose this area of interest if they want to teach students in kindergarten through grade 8 or if they have an interest in working with special needs students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Secondary Education: Students can choose this area of interest if they want to teach grades 7 through 12. With secondary education, they will pursue a degree in a content area and work on their teacher education licensure at the same time.

CAMPUS LIVING AND RESIDENCE LIFE

Living on campus can contribute significantly to your students’ success in college. They will meet people who will become lifelong friends. They will have the chance to learn new things about themselves, about living and working with others, and about being part of a community and its traditions.

Living on campus gives students the chance to get involved beyond the walls of their classrooms, as a variety of programs are planned throughout the year. These may be social, recreational, cultural or educational activities that give students a chance to meet people and learn new things. They will find just the environment needed in our three residence halls.

San Juan Village is conveniently located on campus property and independently managed.

CAREER SERVICES

Your student may wonder what a career field actually is like on a dayto-day basis, or the income potential, interests, skills, and values associated with a career. Also, they may want to gain knowledge about potential openings and projected growth within a particular career track. These are all very important things to consider. We are here to help your student explore all the aspects associated with careers they may be considering as well as helping them choose a major.
