Dear Rocco, I’ve always been attracted to men sexually and always considered myself straight. However, I ended up sleeping with my female bestie one night. We are now in a relationship. We have a great, supportive relationship, one of the best I’ve ever been in. I love her with all my heart. The only I’m issue now is I am still sexually attracted to men. While I have never strayed, I still desire men. I wish there was someway to turn off that part of my brain. MT Dear MT, There are so many questions I would like to ask you if we were actually talking face-to-face. One of the things I have noticed and witnessed in my many experiences is the definition of love and lust. It has been my experience – and my experience only that most of my lesbian friends (and yes, I have a few) is that their love is more emotional. And while yes, there is a physical relationship most women are looking for emotional support and appreciation; being someone who is in touch with their emotions, while, yes also enjoying a physical relationship. maybe every couple of years instead of daily. I understand for some reason he hated our mother, but he wasn’t a prize either and to this day remains a polarizing family member. Fortunately, for he and I we have not seen each other in over ten years. Probably a good thing because I might be in jail – literally. No, it’s not your fault. Everyone is at fault to some degree. Just as unique as our fingerprints are, so are our personalities. Some things take time and smooth out over time. Others, like myself never resolve. There can be some other issues you are not aware of like parents and extended family that can screw up the best of friends and family. Dear Rocco, Yesterday my neighbor stopped by to tell me they are moving. We have been good neighbors but not extraordinarily close. They are moving to another state, her husband has been transferred. She asked me whether we would let her 17-year-old son live with us while he finished his last year of school here in our town. She also offered to pay room and board. We don’t know these people well at all and are surprised to find them wanting us to care for their son. What should we do? TH Dear TH,

What is the kid like? They along with you need to ask the teenager what they want to do. It can really suck leaving a school right before your senior year, unless they are being bullied or not learning. It is my opinion the senior year of high school is one of the most important in someone’s life. Many have made friends, many of which they will keep the rest of their life. Disrupting this can be harmful to their growth. And besides, instead of having to spend their last year making new friends and adjusting to a new scenario, they can have one last hurrah with the kids they literally grew up. Once they’re out of high school they more than likely will move on to a college elsewhere and would theoretically be moving anyway. As long as the kid is behaved and you both get along, I’d go for it. Besides, they’re willing to compensate you and no asking you to do a favor. Rocco is a common sense, tell-itlike-it-is, no-nonsense kind of guy offering real advice on any subject put before him. 1952 At Atlantic Records on West 56th St in New York, Ahmet Ertegun begins recording his newest signing, 21-year-old Ray Charles, whose contract had been purchased from the Swingtime label for $2,500 last June. 1955 Little Richard entered J&M Studios in New Orleans for a two day recording session. Things were not going well and during a break, Richard and his producer, Bumps Blackwell, went to the Dew Drop Inn. With few people there and an old upright piano, Richard started playing like crazy, singing loud, lewd and hamming it up. Blackwell was stunned... why couldn’t he record this? They went back to J&M with only fifteen minutes left in the session and “Tutti Fruiti, good booty” became “Tutti Fruiti, aw-rootie”. The song would be Richard’s break-out hit and managed to make it to #17 early the following year, but a cover by Pat Boone over shadowed Richard’s version and went to #12 on the Billboard Pop chart. 1956 Elvis Presley made his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in front of 54 million TV viewers, which gave the program an 82.6 rating. Elvis sang “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Love Me Tender”, “Hound Dog” and “Ready Teddy” for host Charles Laughton who was filling in for Sullivan who was recovering from a recent car accident. Laughton mistakenly introduced the singer as “Elvin” Presley. The next day, record stores were swamped with requests for “Love Me Tender”, although its release date was weeks away. There
were also well organized letter writing campaigns and petitions against Presley, but it was later brought to light that many of the signatures were fictitious or of deceased people. Police are called to break up a crowd of rowdy teenagers following the showing of the film Rock Around The Clock at the Trocadero Cinema in London, England. The following day, The Times prints a reader’s letter that says in part: “The hypnotic rhythm and the wild gestures have a maddening effect on a rhythm loving age group and the result of its impact is the relaxing of all self control.” The film is quickly banned in several English cities. Elvis Presley is presented with a Gold record for “Don’t Be Cruel”, which has just taken over from “Hound Dog” as the best selling single in the US. When the song was recorded on July 2nd, Elvis, along with Scotty Moore, Bill Black, D.J. Fontana and The Jordanaires ran through 28 takes of “Don’t Be Cruel” before he was satisfied. 1957 A 16-year-old Canadian lad named Paul Anka had the number one song in America with “Diana”. A story circulated that Paul had a crush on his younger brother and sister’s babysitter who wanted nothing to do with him. He then supposedly wrote a poem for her and later set it to music. Anka himself later refuted the story. The record became an international hit that stayed at the top of the UK chart for nine weeks.
Shakin’ Going On” peaks at #3 on the Billboard Top 100. The record would not only top the R&B and Country charts, but it would go on to be ranked #61 on Rolling Stone magazine’s Greatest Songs Of All Time and in 2005 be added to the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress. That’s not bad for a song that Jerry Lee, along with drummer J.M. Van Eaton and guitarist Roland Janes, had recorded in just one take because Sun Records’ producer Jack Clement didn’t have enough tape left for any other attempts. 1962 The Beatles return to Abbey Road Studios where they record “P.S., I Love You”. Producer George Martin is concerned with Ringo Starr’s ability and hires session drummer Andy White to rerecord “Love Me Do”, on which Ringo played maracas and tambourine. It remained a sore spot with Ringo for many years. 1963 The Beach Boys’ “Surfer Girl”, the first song ever written by Brian Wilson, peaks at #7 on the Billboard Pop chart. The single would achieve Gold Record status later in the year and reach #13 in the UK.
Manfred Mann’s “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” enters Billboard’s Hot 100, where it will reach number one just five weeks later. 1965 The Byrds begin recording “Turn! Turn! Turn!”. Unlike their first hit, “Mr. Tambourine Man”, members of the group itself are permitted to play instead of session musicians. The Ford Motor Company becomes the first auto maker to offer an 8-track tape player as an option for their entire line of vehicles. Tapes were initially only available at auto parts stores, as home 8-track equipment was still a year away. 1966 The Monkees’ “The Last Train To Clarksville” is released in the US. By the first week of November, it will be the top tune in the nation. The lyrics describe a phone call by a military man to his girl, asking that she ‘take the last train to Clarksville’ so they can have one last night together before he has to leave on the morning train. The record topped out at #23 in the UK.

named “Imagine” as #76 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. 1973 Helen Reddy reached the top spot on the Billboard Pop chart for the second time with “Delta Dawn”. Her recording beat out a rendition by Bette Midler that was released at the same time and an earlier version by Country singer Tanya Tucker, who took the song to number 6 on Billboard’s Country chart, but only 72 on the Pop chart. 1976 KC And The Sunshine Band had North America dancing in the streets with their Billboard chart topper, “Shake Your Booty”. The song was met with some degree of controversy, since the lyrics were interpreted by many as having sexual connotations. It rose to #22 in the UK. Peter Frampton’s fourth solo album, “Frampton”, goes Gold. It’s his commercial breakthrough LP containing the hits “Show Me the Way” and “Baby I Love Your Way”. 1978 The Rolling Stones’ “Beast Of Burden” is released in the US where it will reach #8. In 2004 Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song #435 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. 1982 John “Cougar” Mellencamp becomes the only male artist to have two singles in the US Top Ten as well as the number one album. “Jack and Diane” was number 4, while “Hurts So Good” sat at number 8. The LP “American Fool” stayed on top for nine weeks, eventually reaching multi-Platinum status. “Valley Girl” by Frank Zappa and his 14-year old daughter Moon Unit, peaks at #32 on the US singles chart. Moon Unit supplied much of the content, speaking typical “Valley Girl” phrases. 1983
Stevie Wonder’s former guitarist, Michael Sembello, started a two week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Maniac”. The track was featured in the film Flashdance and reached #43 in the UK. 1985 Recording sessions for The Bangles’ second album, “Different Light” wrap up at the Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, California. The LP will produce the band’s first of three Billboard number one hits, “Manic Monday” which was written by Prince under the pen-name Christopher. 1987 43-year-old Peter Tosh, the guitarist in the original Wailing Wailers with Bob Marley, was brutally murdered at his Jamaican home. Though robbery was officially said to be the reason behind Tosh’s death, many believe that there were ulterior motives to the killing, citing that nothing was taken from the house. 1988 Guns N’ Roses enjoyed a number one single with “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, written for Axl Rose’s then girlfriend, Erin Everly, the daughter of The Everly Brothers’ eldest sibling, Don Everly. 1990 Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks both announce that they’ll no longer perform with Fleetwood Mac. tour. Williams had claimed that the Sex Pistols owed him $7,000. Rotten said Williams quit and was owed nothing. Judge Judy apparently found Rotten was most credible and ruled in his favor. 2001 Clear Channel Communications, the largest owner of radio stations in the United States, released a list of “lyrically questionable” songs that stations may want to pull from their play lists, following the terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center and The Pentagon. That list includes such classic rock standards as: “Jet Airliner” by Steve Miller, “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan and “Eve of Destruction” by Barry McGuire. 2003 Tommy Chong, one-half of the comedy team of Cheech and Chong, was sentenced to nine months in federal prison and fined $20,000 for selling drug paraphernalia over the Internet. The 65 year-old Chong pled guilty to the charges last May. He remained free until April, 2004, when he went to jail. Cheech and Chong reached the Billboard Hot 100 with “Basketball Jones” (#15), “Sister Mary Elephant” (#24) and “Earache My Eye” (#9). Johnny Cash, “The Man in Black” who became a towering figure in American music with such hits as “Folsom Prison Blues”, “I Walk the Line”, and “A Boy Named Sue”, died at the age of 71. During his career, Cash won 11 Grammys, most recently in 2003, when “Give My Love To Rose” earned him honors as Best Male Country Vocal Performance. He also notched fourteen number 1 Country music hits. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Two of his most popular albums were recorded live at Folsom Prison in 1968 and at San Quentin in 1969. Many people wrongly thought he had served prison time himself. He never did, although he did spend the odd

night in jail during his youth and battled addictions to pills on and off throughout his life. 2004 Johnny Ramone, co-founder of The Ramones, passed away after a five year battle with prostrate cancer. The 55 year old guitarist’s real name is John Cummings. 2019 Eddie Money, whose eleven Billboard Top 40 hits included “Take Me Home Tonight” (#4 in 1986) and “Walk On Water” (#9 in 1988) passed away at the age of 70 after a battle with cancer. The Cars vocalist Ric Ocasek was found unconscious at his New York City apartment by his estranged wife, Paulina Porizkova. The 75-year-old musician was later pronounced dead at the scene. 2020 Ronald Bell, a founding member of Kool & The Gang, passed away at the age of 68. The singer-saxophonist cowrote the band’s biggest hits, including “Ladies’ Night”, “Jungle Boogie” and “Celebration”.

Police in Massachusetts said an officer is facing prosecution after he allegedly fired his gun at his own police cruiser and burned it to stage a crime scene. Millis Police said they launched a manhunt after an officer reported a white man in a dark pickup truck had fired shots at him while he was driving, causing his patrol car to spin around, crash into a tree and catch fire. However, Sgt. William Dwyer said investigators determined the officer’s own gun was used to shoot the holes in the police cruiser. “We have determined that the officer’s story was fabricated,” Dwyer said. “Specifically that he fired shots at his own cruiser as part of a plan to concoct a story that he was fired upon.” The officer was identified as Bryan Johnson, a rookie part time officer who was scheduled to begin training soon for a position as a full-time Millis Police officer. Police are seeking charges of misleading a police investigation, providing false information to emergency services, malicious destruction of property and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
A sports memorabilia website announced a pair of Michael Jordan’s underwear bearing signs of “definite use” is being auctioned with a starting bid of $500. Website Lelands said the underwear formerly belonged to the legendary Chicago Bulls player and is being sold by a family member of John Michael Wozniak, Jordan’s former security guard. The website said the “unusual item” shows signs of “definite use” and has “some loose threads evident at the seams.” Lelands said the underwear was one of several items gifted to Wozniak from Jordan. He also received suits, ties, belts and jackets formerly worn by the basketball great. A California woman caused a bizarre accident on a busy road by jumping from her car and allowing it to roll into oncoming traffic. The woman who was accused of being drunk, was identified as 22-year-old Jasmine Lacey. She was seen on video abruptly stopping her car on the busy highway. The driver
behind her, who caught the incident on his dashboard camera, narrowly avoided hitting the car. After getting out of her car, the woman started to casually walk along the road while her car continued to roll and finally veered into traffic. The car hit two SUVs before going off the road, and stopped when it hit two trees. Lacey was arrested and booked for DUI, but she was released after police said that there was insufficient evidence to support the charge. A Russian hot rod enthusiast showed off his latest custom vehicle: a car that shoots jets of fire from its headlights. Vahan Mikaelyan, a mechanic whose previous creations include a car that walks on eight legs instead of wheels, said he used a VAZ2106 Zhiguli, commonly called a Lada 1600, to create his latest custom car, which he dubbed the “Dragon.” Mikaelyan shared a video on Reddit showing the headlight flamethrowers launching jets of fire a distance of about 20 feet. Mikaelyan said he is planning an event for later this month that will feature another car being set on fire by his Dragon. A Florida woman received word just prior to her 100th birthday that she is a Guinness World Record holder as the world’s oldest competitive powerlifter. Tampa woman Edith MurwayTraina, who is about to turn 100, was 98 years and 94 days old at the time of her last competition in 2019, earning her the Guinness record for being the oldest female competitive powerlifter. Murway-Traina might soon break her own record, as she is scheduled to compete in her first post-pandemic lifting competition in November. MurwayTraina spent years as a dancing instructor before friend Carmen Gutworth invited the then-91year-old dancer to join her at the gym, where her interest in lifting was sparked. MurwayTraina lifts weights ranging from 40-150 pounds at her competitions, which have earned her so many trophies that she’s run out of room for them in her home.
