Camp Cadet of Lancaster County, an overnight summer camp for youths ages 11 to 13 who live in Lancaster County, will be held from Sunday, Aug. 16, to Friday, Aug. 21, at Camp Ware in Peach Bottom. Girls’ Night Out To Ease Transition To High School

The 68th annual North Museum Science and Engineering Fair (NMSEF) will be held on Thursday, March 12, at Millersville University’s Student Memorial Center, located on South George Street in Millersville. The NMSEF will feature projects by more than 300 students from more than 30 local middle and high schools. The top two winners of the fair will go on to compete at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Anaheim, Calif., in May. NMSEF admission is free to the public between 4 and 6 p.m. Thanks to NMSEF sponsors, all travel, registration and housing costs for the winners to compete in ISEF in May are covered. Every year, the NMSEF brings together students and educators, along with local science professionals who serve as judges. IMPACT! Missions Celebrates 10 Years Of Ministry

The transition from middle school to high school can be difficult, so the members of Ophelia Club at Solanco High School have planned Girls’ Night Out to help. The event will be held at the high school, 585 Solanco Road, Quarryville, from 3:15 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 20, for girls in grades seven and eight. Students coming from Swift and Smith middle schools may ride the activity bus over to the high school. Seventh- and eighth-grade girls who are enrolled at private schools or are homeschooled but who will attend Solanco High School for ninth grade are also invited to Girls’ Night Out. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably or bring a change of clothes. Sweatpants and sneakers are suggested, as some of the activities will involve physical movement. The goal of Girls’ Night Out is to celebrate being strong females, said Ophelia

Club adviser and high school guidance counselor Lindsay Capoferri. The activities have been planned around the concepts of building confidence, developing a healthy self-concept, working well with others, building connections, and celebrating uniqueness. Students will be taught how to deal with stress with positive coping strategies. “We don’t talk about this stuff - taking care of your emotional self - enough,â€? Capoferri said. “(Girls’ Night Out) is one night to have fun ‌ doing positive things.â€? Every attendee will be paired with an Ophelia Club member and assigned to a group. The groups will rotate through activity stations, where the attendees may participate in crafts, student-led nail polishing and hair styling, yoga guided by a professional instructor, confidence-building exercises, and games. Additionally, a female karate student will give a demonstration of basic selfdefense techniques. Dinner and snacks will be provided as well. See Girls’ Night Out pg 9

Woodcarvers To Host Annual Festival When Mike Dieter set out to obtain a set of decoys for waterfowl hunting in 1980, he did not realize that it would introduce him to an entirely different hobby. At the time, finances were limited, and Dieter was supporting a growing family. Rather than purchase decoys, he decided to make his own. Galen Shelly, Dieter’s friend and Lancaster County WoodCarvers (LCWC) member, invited him to attend club Lancaster County WoodCarvers member Mike meetings, and Dieter was bit- Dieter will be the featured carver at the 47th annual ten by the carving bug.
