PARENTING CLASS
Stevens Hill Community Church of the Brethren, 3131 Turnpike Road, Elizabethtown, will offer a parenting class, “Hiking the Mountains of Parenthood,” on Sundays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The class will begin on Sept. 9 and continue through Oct. 21. Dr. Laura Hamilton and pastor Andy Hamilton will present the class. Particpants will learn to make changes that will alleviate frustration and instill tools necessary to grow a healthy family. LADIES’ BRUNCH
The Elizabethtown/Mount Joy Christian Women’s Connection invites area ladies to its “Paper Creations” brunch on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 9:30 a.m. at The Gathering Place, 6 Pine St., Mount Joy. The price is inclusive. Beckie Peters of Elizabethtown will share paper crafting and cards. Vocalist Cindy Schnee of Mount Joy will provide special music. Sharon Ditton of Schenectady, N.Y., will present “Lost And Alone Were My Companions,” her story as a cancer survivor. OUTDOOR CONCERT
will be held in Ruhl’s Picnic Grove, 2766 Newport Road, Manheim, on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 4 to 9 p.m. The event will feature live music from various artists, including Marty Loose and Friends, presenting original and gospel music; Salt and Light, a jazz and soul group from Lancaster; and Basic Connections, a worship band from Columbia. In addition, live country gospel music will be played by Ruhl’s Gospel Players during the dinner hour in the shaded setting of the grove. Chicken barbecue dinners will be available for a fee at 4:30 p.m. Admission to the concert is free. 17 Years Of Cruising And Barbecuing By Chelsea Peifer
The Elizabethtown Lions Club and Rheems Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) are teaming up once again to host the 17th annual Cruise In and Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Rheems VFD, 350 Anchor Road, Elizabethtown. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, tractors, boats, and equipment will be on display for folks to peruse from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Chicken barbecue meals will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. People are welcome to eat at the show or take advantage of a drive-through option. Separate prices have been set for meals and for half-chickens. Organizers encourage individuals to purchase tickets in advance from any Lions Club

The community is invited to the 31st annual Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show on Sept. 1 and 2 at Root’s Country Market in Manheim. Two hundred exhibitors, artist demonstrations, live music, food, and giveaways will be part of the two-day event. Admission and parking are free.
A new addition this year will be the presence of several local food trucks, each offering a variety of food and beverages for folks to purchase. Tacos, burritos, empanadas, rice and beans, waffle burgers, macaroni and cheese, and hand-dipped ice cream will be among the menu options. Beverage sampling will also be part of the day’s festivities. Rock ‘N’ Roll Time Machine will per-
form live music during the event. The Manheim-area band specializes in oldies and classic rock from the 1950s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s and has been playing together since 2000.
