Honoring An American Hero (Again) Re-enactment To Mark Lincoln Funeral Train Anniversary Abraham Lincoln’s funeral train passed through southcentral Pennsylvania as it carried the body of the
16th president from Washington, D.C., to his final resting place in his home state of Illinois. During the solemn procession, the train passed through the grounds that are now Stone Gables Estate on April 22, 1865.

are sponsoring the annual Memorial Day parade in Elizabethtown, which will be held on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. The groups are in the process of planning this year’s parade, and they are seeking participants. Community members and businesses may sponsor a float or organize a walking group. Local businesses may decorate in patriotic themes. The parade committee also welcomes donations to help cover the cost of the parade. Participants in the parade will be invited to attend a reception at the American Legion following the services in the Elizabethtown Park. Readers who would like more information may call American Legion Post 329 at 717-367-1295. Organizers ask that those interested in participating make arrangements no later than Tuesday, April 30.
To mark the 154-year anniversary, a re-enactment is planned at Stone Gables Estate, 1 Hollinger Lane, Elizabethtown, on Monday and Tuesday, April 22 and 23. Bells and whistles, re-enactors, and mounted troops will celebrate the arrival of the Lincoln Funeral Car replica, also known as “United States,” when it travels on the .62mile of original railbed as the original train did on April 22, 1865. There will be two opportunities for folks to experience the re-enactment, as one-day general admission tickets and two-day VIP experience packages are available. Both days of the event will include plenty of historical sights and experiences, a highlight of which will be the fullscale replica of the original Lincoln See Lincoln Funeral Train pg 4

Auction To Support Fight Against Cancer Pamoja Event To Raise Funds For Orphans Captain Morgan’s Cancer Crusaders Relay For Life team will hold its 19th silent auction on Saturday, April 13, at Shank’s Tavern, 36 S. Waterford Ave., Marietta. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the silent auction will close at 10 p.m. The event usually includes approximately 100 auction items, such as jewelry, artwork, clothing, sports items and gift certificates for food and
services. John Chapman will provide music, and there may be a special guest. Bob “The Rodman” Shank is scheduled to be present. The kitchen will be open. A set requested donation will be received at the door. All proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society to continue the fight against cancer. The funds will go toward research, as well as assistance for local cancer survivors and their caregivers.

425 Cloverleaf Road, Elizabethtown, invites the community to its Fly a Kite Fun Day on Saturday, April 6, starting at 10:30 a.m. At 11 a.m. there will be an Easter egg hunt for children in preschool to fourth grade. Attendees may bring a kite or build one at the church’s kite workshop, where dowel rods and plastic trash bags will be provided. Awards will be given for the kite that is in the air the longest and the kite that flies the highest, with a minimum height of more than 10 feet. There will be a bounce house, and lunch will be available for purchase. The Northwest Regional Police Department has been invited. There is no rain date, and attendees are asked to leave pets at home. Kite safety rules will be followed. Donations accepted at the event will cover the cost of materials, benefit the upgrade of the church’s preschool Sunday school rooms, and provide items for care packages for the troops.
