Menorca is a more relaxing destination when comparing it to some of its livelier neighbours. As well as beautiful beaches, the absence of over-development allows visitors to enjoy a traditional and natural environment. This includes over 100 prehistoric ruins (the most you’ll find anywhere in Europe) and over 900 species of flowering plants, rare butterflies and birds. Other not-to-be-missed attractions include sampling the island’s famous lobster stew and taking a sip or two of pomade – a local gin from earthenware bottles which is mixed with lemonade. As the Mediterranean’s party capital, Ibiza may be buzzing with dance music. And if that’s your scene, head to San Antonio, where there are many accessible clubs and partying into the early hours. If, on the other hand, you prefer a much more laid-back holiday, Ibiza has so much more to offer. With such a long coastline, you’re never far away from a secluded sandy cove and quieter resorts like Santa Eulalia and Es Cana. The island is also draped in stunning architecture, including the Curia’s House, Santo Domingo’s Church, Sant Jordi, Francesc de s’Estany and the Phoenician town Sa Caleta.

Menorca – Cala N Bosch, Cala N Forcat, Son Bou, Cala Galdana The purpose-built and lively resort of Cala’n Bosch has a marina lined with beautiful yachts and a range of bars and open-air eateries. It is only “lively” by Menorca’s calming standards, so there are still plenty of ways to enjoy a soothing holiday. Cala’n Forcat offers a number of appealing restaurants, bars and nightclubs to enjoy. A family-friendly atmosphere infuses the resort’s main touristic activities, such as the nearby Aqua Centre waterpark in Los Delfines and some historic museums. Son Bou provides guests with the longest beach in Menorca, plus a wide variety of entertainment and cuisines. The resort’s themed bars keep children entertained while their parents enjoy a chilled beverage, after which the family can head into the sun once more to browse the shops or find a relaxing spot by the sea.

Despite its small size, Cala Galdana is one of Menorca’s most loved and visited resorts; a reputation that has helped christen it “The Queen of the Calas”. Surrounded by a dreamlike bay, this relaxing spot offers tranquillity throughout its beaches, bars, restaurants and accommodation. The sea’s gentle shelving is also ideal for families with children and for people with reduced mobility.
