On a brighter note, we’re now offering more types of holiday than ever before: beach resorts… exotic tours… city breaks… safaris… wine tasting experiences… exclusive holidays with built-in excursions – and much more. So, whatever takes your fancy, we can make it happen for you. Last year’s Early Bird brochure was very popular with our customers. Most of whom booked their summer 2018 holidays in September and October 2017 to avoid disappointment. And that’s why we’re giving you the opportunity to take your pick from the best disabled-friendly holidays for the coming seasons before someone else beats you to it. On the following pages you’ll find details on some of our most sought-after destinations for Winter 2018 and Summer 2019 – together with a list of top-selling holiday properties for people with limited mobility.

NORTHERN SPAIN

4

Basque Country

Costa Brava

Costa Dorada

San Sebastian is a picturesque cultural city/beach resort that’s ideal for wheelchair-users, their families and friends. The resort’s accessible beach-side setting, Michelin-star restaurants and wide range of accessible holiday activities ensure the perfect holiday for UK disabled travellers arriving by either sea or air. The accessible beaches offer beach wheelchairs (aqua chairs) for entry into the sea and special tuition for disabled surfers. And those of you looking for a cultural experience to tease your taste buds, how about an accessible vineyard tour or show cooking at a Michelin-star restaurant? All this, coupled with the wheelchair accessible aquarium, flat walks throughout the city and excellent adapted accommodation, make San Sebastian one of the most disabled-friendly resorts in Northern Spain.

What can be said about Costa Brava that has not been said before? A firm favourite with Enable customers for years, accessible Costa Brava is made up of three resorts: Santa Susanna, Pineda del Mar and Malgrat de Mar, all of which are perfect for that care free, barrier-free holiday. The resorts offer miles of promenade, ideal for the wheelchair-user. Drop kerbs appear regularly along the way, and the train service that runs along the seafront from Costa Brava to Barcelona is totally accessible. Many of the resorts’ facilities, like shops and restaurants, have level entry or ramped access, and a good selection of disabled toilets. The public train that runs through the resort is accessible to wheelchair-users on the new rolling stock, however some of the older trains are not suitable for disabled travellers.

Trains, planes and automobiles, there are many ways to visit the region of Costa Dorada and the British favourite of Salou. One of the original Spanish Costa resorts, Salou has been welcoming disabled tourists for some time due to the flat topography of the location. Just 250m from the town centre, Levante Beach – with its many level platforms down to the water’s edge is ideal for wheelchair-users. But one of the biggest attractions in the area is the famous Port Aventura. Located approximately 1.5km away from Salou, the fun park offers many accessible features - including the option for express premium wristbands to avoid the queues.

SOUTHERN SPAIN

Costa Blanca

Costa Calida

Costa Almeria

The Levante and Poniente areas of Benidorm offer flat walkways with plenty of drop kerbs, and an abundance of accessible shops, bars and restaurants. Although the rear of the Poniente area is on more of an incline, there are several ways to reach the seafront depending on your mobility. The beach area offers disabled access to the sea, amphibious wheelchairs, and a disabled changing room and toilet, all supported by lifeguards. Along the coast you will find the resorts of Torrevieja, Calpe and Santa Pola, each offering accessibility to a good standard and well-designed resort facilities to match.

Costa Calida is situated on the south-eastern coast of Spain with access from Alicante and Murcia airports. The local resorts have a more traditional feel and offer that quieter disabled holiday option than its larger Costa counterparts. Wheelchair access around the resorts is still good, with flat walkways, miles of sandy beaches - some of which are accessible - and good choice of restaurants offering wheelchair access and adapted toilets. The pace of life is very much slower here and many people with walking difficulties emigrate to the area to enjoy an enhanced quality lifestyle.

The up and coming resort on the Spanish coast for British disabled holidaymakers is Costa Almeria; and, in particular, Roquetas de Mar. Excellent accessible hotels, coupled with a long flat beachfront promenade, accessible beach with amphibious wheelchair and a good selection of places to eat and drink are the main reasons more and more airlines are now operating from your local airport direct to the resort. Located just north of Costa del Sol, the resort maintains great weather from April to October, has a cosmopolitan feel, and is ideal for people with varying levels of mobility - from wobbly walkers to full-time wheelchair-users.

Costa del Sol

Costa de la Luz

Costa del Sol’s main resort areas are Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Benalmadena. Each offers good accessibility around their cities, with plenty of drop kerbs for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The local resorts boast a wide choice of beach, cultural museums and monuments - all being suitable for people with mobility impairments. In Torremolinos, there are inclines at the rear of the resort (old town) that are not suitable for wheelchair-users, however the front of the resort is flat and ideal for anyone with limited mobility. The long promenade has wide pavements, a multitude of shops, bars and restaurants - as well as an accessible section of beach at Los Alamos. In Fuengirola, you will find what’s probably the most accessible area in all of Spain! The resort is flat, with drop kerbs and ramps located at every point. The beach is totally accessible with an aqua chair and life guards. And at the train station, you’ll find lifts for accessing the platforms and accessible buses that run through the resort.

Costa de la Luz has been a holiday destination for Spanish and German tourists for many years, yet is less known to the UK disabled holidaymaker. It’s located on Spain’s south-east coast, towards Portugal, and is home to Europe’s largest national park, a famous stopover for migrating birds. There is an accessible beach with beach wheelchairs for hire at Ilunion Islantilla. The area is flat and therefore ideal for wheelchair-users, and so too is the shopping centre with its vast array of shops, bars and restaurants. The region makes the perfect alternative destination for any disabled traveller looking for a well-earned rest in a not so familiar holiday environment

BALEARIC ISLANDS

Mallorca

Menorca

Ibiza

Accessibility on the island is ideal for anyone with reduced mobility, where you will find flat resorts, accessible beaches with aqua chairs and attentive life guards, together with accessible shops, bars and restaurants to suit any taste. Your holiday gets off to the best of starts at Palma airport, which has received many accolades for its organised, caring and professional service for disabled visitors. This includes easy access from the aircraft to the arrivals hall and continues with accessible private vehicles to your resort. We are delighted to offer excellent accessible hotels with attentive staff who understand the needs of their guests. And we also offer a range of wheelchair-accessible excursions that enable you to be as active or as relaxed as you wish. All this adds up to a holiday experience that’s a real pleasure from start to finish.

Although the island of Menorca has a short holiday season compared to its larger neighbour, Mallorca, there are still many accessible resorts to choose from. Most of the beach resorts have wheelchair accessibility with wooden pathways across the beach, accessible toilet and changing room areas, as well as offering beach wheelchairs for rental. Cala n Bosch has an accessible marina area with ramps and drop kerbs; however, the edges of the resort tend to have higher kerbs. The old capital of Ciutadella has wide open pedestrianised areas, ideal for the less mobile, though some side- street pavements are narrower. Close to the capital Mahon lies the resort of Es Catell, which is ideal for wheelchair-users to explore around the harbour area as well as providing easy access into Mahon town. There is a choice of accessible days out around the Island, not least the local zoo, wine tasting at a local vineyard, and an accessible equestrian show.

Ibiza was slow on the uptake for accessibility, but has moved on leaps and bounds since taking up the challenge. Although by no means perfect yet, the island does boast 26 accessible beaches of varying degrees of suitability. Some of the lifeguard stations offer an amphibian wheelchair, beach crutches, assisted bathing and accessible changing rooms. Disabled pool access is still limited on the Island, though we are able to offer some hotels with pool hoist or ramp-to-pool access. All you need do is ask one of our experts for advice when calling. Around the resort, many pavements have been widened for wheelchair use - and for the party animals among you, larger night clubs, like Space, provide wheelchair access for getting up close to the action and music.

CANARY ISLANDS

10

Tenerife

Lanzarote

Gran Canaria

Accessibility on the south of the island is some of the best you will find in Europe. Most shops, bars and restaurants have accessible entrances, and although some of the ramps are a little steep, the resorts of Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje will suit any type of wheelchairuser. Apart from being completely flat, the heart of Playa de las Americas is a pedestrian-only zone that’s very close to the accessible beach of Las Vistas. The beach features a wheelchair-accessible sunbathing decked area, and the Red Cross are on-hand to offer a mobility aqua chair and assisted bathing services. Drop kerbs are commonplace around each of the popular resorts, and accessible toilets can be found in most bars and restaurants and around Las Vistas Beach. Tenerife also offers a barrier-free tram system, kneeling and low floor buses, wheelchair-accessible taxis, adapted car hire and an excellent choice of accessible excursions bookable in resort.

The island of Lanzarote has many accessible resorts to choose from and the feelgood factor starts at the airport, with ramps, wide doors and smooth surfaces throughout. Airport assistance is arranged by Enable Holidays’ expert team in conjunction with the airport’s own disabled support team. And for your convenience, there are designated drop-off and pick-up points outside the terminal building. Several beaches are accessible to wheelchair-users, with three beaches in Costa Tequise being awarded “Beaches for All” status. Playa Blanca offers a very good accessible promenade although drop kerbs are limited, and Puerto Del Carmen provides good wheelchair access and disabled toilets. The neighbouring resorts of Matagorda and Los Pocilos have wooden walkways, an aqua wheelchair and a good selection of shops and restaurants that are suitable for customers with limited mobility.

Gran Canaria is a diverse and welcoming island for everyone, and wheelchair-users are no exception. The resorts of Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas, Meloneras and Puerto de Mogán boast a wide selection of accessible hotels and resort facilities to suit all forms of mobility requirements. Facilities include accessible promenades and wheelchair-accessible public transport. And, although beach access is limited on the Island, Maspalomas offers a fully accessible beach, with disabled toilets and changing rooms. We should point out, that some of the walkways do have high kerbs, but there are plenty of wheelchair access points along them to compensate. The newer shops, bars and restaurants, of which there are plenty, have good access; however, the older-style complexes can be difficult for wheelchair-users.

Fuerteventura The island of Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary islands, and its accessibility has proven popular with many Enable holidaymakers. There is a wide choice of accessible restaurants to choose from and you can take advantage of accessible buses in all of the major resorts. Wheelchair access around the resorts of Costa Caleta, Jandia, Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste is very good, with many flat areas, accessible promenades and drop kerbs. The beach at Caleta de Fuste is also accessible with access to the sea, where a beach wheelchair is operated by the Red Cross. The harbour areas and ports are older. And as you can imagine, some do have cobbled paving which could mean a rather bumpy experience for wheelchair-users wishing to experience the fantastic range of dining options scattered around these areas.

GREECE & CYPRUS Greece & Her Islands

Cyprus

It would be wrong for us to proclaim that Greece is one of the most disabled-friendly countries in the world. With hills and mountains everywhere, the landscape is challenging to say the least, pathways tend to be narrow, and cars are usually parked so close to one another there’s hardly room for a wheelchair to fit between them when crossing a road.

Sun-soaked Cyprus is a much-loved holiday destination and has been for many years and is as welcoming to those with mobility impairments as those without. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and offers everything from lush beaches to towering mountains, traditional villages to bustling cities, and rich mythology to contemporary culture. While Greek is the official language of Cyprus, English is spoken widely throughout.

It’s true however that great progress has been made since Greece hosted the Paralympic games in 2004. There are now more buses available with wheelchair ramps and new rules for featuring improved accessibility and adapted facilities in hotels and restaurants. The resorts themselves have also been upgraded. Ipsos in Corfu has added drop kerbs to its flat “golden mile” promenade as well as providing beach wheelchairs and ramped access into the sea. And Ialyssos in Rhodes has an accessible beach area, with wooden walkways that criss-cross the sand. Most important of all, we are delighted to offer some very specialist holiday complexes where disabled holidaymakers can enjoy purpose designed accommodation with all the support, care and assistance needed to make your stay in Greece just perfect in every way.

12

Enable Holidays has a long list of audited and fully adapted hotel rooms and apartments waiting for tourists wishing to visit Cyprus for its inviting climate, Mediterranean cuisine and ample opportunities for exploration and relaxation. At Polis Chrysochous Municipal Beach (in the Paphos area) and Vathia Gonia Beach (in the Ayia Napa area) innovative Seatrac systems are installed to provide wheelchair-users with autonomous access into the sea. We offer a variety of excursions suitable for wheelchair-users and people with impaired mobility. All of which are pre-bookable in resort. Please ask our representative for details.

JERSEY

MALTA

Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, is a perfect blend of British and French cultures in a relaxing continental atmosphere. English is the official language and pound sterling is the currency. A holiday in Jersey also means VATfree shopping, beautiful scenery and excellent food.

We’ve detailed the Maltese Islands on page 17, but we are also delighted to have created an Exclusive Accessible Holiday to Malta – inclusive of built-in excursions.

The island provides a large amount of wheelchair-friendly facilities, while the wide and level pavements make transport through the streets far easier than many other destinations. These welcome benefits, together with the advantage of a short flight or ferry crossing from the UK mainland and ultraaccessible accommodation, make Jersey the ideal location for a disabled holiday.

7 Nights Full Board Accommodation On your Exclusive Holiday, you’ll stay at the Maison des Landes, which provides some of the best accommodation for people with impaired mobility in Jersey, if not the UK. It is dedicated to disabled guests and their families or escorts, with accommodation carefully designed to meet special requirements. All the rooms on the ground floor are totally adapted. Many have a ceiling hoist and an electric bed, and all have a flat-floor shower and grab rails.

Accessible Group Excursions During your ultra-accessible holiday, you will have plenty of opportunities to explore the beauty of Jersey, with the benefit of adapted excursions to a selection of the island’s highlight attractions. Some of the most popular tours are visits to St. Helier, St. Brelades Bay, The Jersey Orchid Foundation and Durrell Wildlife Park.

7 Nights Half Board Accommodation On your Exclusive Holiday, you’ll stay at the Paradise Bay Resort Hotel - a very popular and spacious 4* hotel overlooking the picturesque sister islands of Gozo and Comino. Surrounded by the clear water of the Mediterranean, in a quiet location, the hotel offers practical, wellfurnished and comfortable accommodation in a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. The hotel is conveniently located at Malta’s northern tip of Mellieha Bay, just minutes away from the Island’s best beaches. Facilities include: quality adapted room accommodation, four seawater swimming pools, pool and beach towels, two bars, several restaurants, sauna, gym and tennis courts, gift shop selling souvenirs, beach toys, newspapers and confectionery.

Accessible Group Excursions To ensure you experience the best of Malta, we have arranged three very special excursions for you. Capital Delights of Valetta gets up close to all the treasures to be discovered in the capital city. Tales of the Silent City is a full day trip to unveil the rich history that envelopes the secret city of Mdina. And Gozo Highlights takes you to this unspoiled island where you can experience stunning views across the Mediterranean Sea - and then watch the world go by in the pretty coastal resort of Xlendi.

PORTUGAL & MADEIRA Portugal

Madeira

Ever popular with couples and families alike, Portugal is just a short flight away from the UK and offers year-round hospitality for everyone to enjoy. As a flat resort, offering fine dining and exquisite bars, Vilamoura is a particular favourite with Enable Holidays’ guests. The marina area is especially popular. Not only does it provide an extremely attractive backdrop but it’s also one of the most accessible holiday areas in the entire country. Here, you’ll find a large choice of wheelchair-accessible ramps, accessible beaches with wooden walkways, amphibious chairs and adapted toilets, and plenty of good quality disabledfriendly hotels to choose from. The resort offers a long flat promenade, which is just perfect for a cooling evening stroll after a day in the sun. Both Quarteira and Albufeira have accessible beaches with disabled toilets and disabled parking, as well as a good selection of bars and restaurants to choose from.

Despite its mountainous persona, Madeira is a surprisingly wheelchair-friendly destination. Many of the new buildings have been designed with disabled people in mind. The island’s cable car has been fitted with wheelchair access facilities and Funchal marina has a ramp near to the Beer House Bar to allow access to the restaurants and bars. Enable Holidays are also able to provide many accessible tours, including the incredible Laurissilva Forest, where the wheelchair-friendly trail leads you to views of some of the most stunning landscapes on the island. There are also braille and SPS services available for visitors who would benefit from these facilities. The local transport service offers some accessible buses into Funchal; however not all buses are fitted with ramps, so you do have to wait for the right bus to come along.

BEST OF THE REST Malta Just a short three-hour flight away from the UK, the Maltese Islands are perfectly positioned for a beach holiday or a city break and cater very well for visitors with accessibility needs. Many bays in Malta and Gozo are accessible and the best of them offer floating beach wheelchairs, ramps, hoists and platforms with ramps leading to the sea. On the neighbouring island of Gozo you will find the Nautic Team

Florida Diving Centre. The IAHD qualified instructors are certified and experienced in diving with disabled people and offer one-to-one diving classes which are suitable for various types of ability and experience. Public transport is also well served on Malta. Buses are equipped with ramps and have priority seating for people with reduced mobility, plus ticketing machines at a suitable height for wheelchair-users.

Drop kerbs are located on virtually every corner, with crossing points for the visually/ hearing impaired. Hotels abide to a strict code of accessibility (ADA) with both wet room bathrooms and accessible bath tubs (tubes) with grab rails. MORE GREAT IDEAS EXOTIC TOURS. RIVER CRUISING. WINE-TASTING. CITY BREAKS. AND SO MUCH MORE. At Enable Holidays, we’re always looking to expand our choice of holidays – going beyond the norm to enable more people to enjoy more of the world. A few years ago, we identified that personalised accessible tours were missing from our selection of holidays. And so, we began to explore the options we could offer. It all started with our tailormade adventures in India and the ever-popular Golden Triangle tour with tiger safari. And since then, we’ve added something new and extra special every year.

VILLAS Enable Holidays is always expanding its selection of wheelchair-accessible villas. And next year we will be adding even more to our portfolio after discovering some new gems in several destinations. The location of most villas means that car hire is usually required to reach shopping areas, beaches and places of interest. But with many, we can arrange a wheelchairaccessible vehicle (WAV) within the cost of the holiday. A villa gives you and your small party

that private ‘do-as-you –please’ feel, with the flexibility to cater for yourselves in the privacy of your own grounds and holiday home. We are also able to organise the hire of many mobility aids to make your holiday convenient, comfortable, hassle free, and that little bit easier all round. We offer an excellent choice of carefully chosen villas in France, Spain, the Canary Islands, Ibiza, Portugal, Greece, Egypt and the USA.

Enable are unfailingly friendly and polite and make the whole process a positive pleasure. 18

We now offer an extended range of exotic tours to India, South Africa, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina and Vietnam; holidays with accessible river cruises in Amsterdam and Luxor; wine-tasting and cultural experiences in France, Italy and Spain; and our biggest ever choice of winter sunshine holidays to the Canary Islands, Malta, the sunniest parts of Spain and the Caribbean. The length of your stay is very flexible. You’re not limited to seven or 14 nights. Short getaways include evening flights to witness the Northern Lights, festive breaks to Germany’s famous Christmas markets, and almost 40 exciting city breaks across Europe and North America. Your world is more accessible with Enable Holidays.
