Wolfgang Thaler's work encompasses architecture photography (series on Vienna's Südbahnhof railway station or on traffic circles) and documentary photography (on the Viennese traditional coffeeshop chain Aida, etc.), manifesting his – in most cases highly analytical – interest in space. The series Matter of Selection (2007) permits us to peer into a collector's apartment. Using high-resolution black-and-white stock, Thaler first photographs his furniture (a dresser, a bookshelf); then, like a detective, he scans every single detail of the resulting photographs on a computer screen.
