I had the privilege of spending another semester with Assistant Professor, Rana Abudayyeh. Our brief challenged us to develop a microschool which engaged with sensorial perception to influence the academic curriculum.
I began this process with a material study, particularly interested in recycled plastics. Becoming more specific, I selected polyvinyl chloride piping. In its typical use, PVC piping often forms algae when interacting with water. The joining of a manufactured element and natural element encouraged my interest in developing a micro school of ecology and sustainability, aiming to educate the younger generation about their environmental impact and sustainable practices.
Moving into site analysis, I focused on the manufactured wilderness within Knoxville while highlighting its unique peri-urban condition. Taking a closer look, I studied Ijams and Fort Dickerson Quarry. These landscapes were mined for their natural resources, left dorma
