Started in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as Fratelli Prada as a leather goods shop in Milan. For over 100 years, Prada has designed and sold beautifully crafted and ingenious handbags, clothes, shoes, and accessories for women, men, and now children.

The Prada Re-Nylon collection is crafted entirely from regenerated nylon created through the recycling and purification of plastic collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills and textile fiber waste globally. Through a process of de-polymerization, purification and transformation of the new polymers into threads, this material can be made into new nylon fabric. A vital component of Prada’s heritage and a hallmark of its approach to contemporary fashion, nylon is an emblem of the brand DNA. The Prada Re-Nylon project represents a commitment to sustainable and truly responsible practice.

MATERIALS USED & SUSTAINABILITY FACTORS Re-Nylon is the next step in fabric technology and sustainable luxury - a textile that can be endlessly regenerated without loss of quality, a true cyclical luxury.

Prada Re-Nylon is entirely crafted from a regenerated nylon created through the recycling and purification of plastic collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills and textile fibre waste globally.

First debuted in 2019, the collection was created using discarded fishing nets and other nylon waste, which are then melted down and transformed into a durable and versatile material. This process not only reduces the amount of plastic waste in our oceans but also helps to conserve non-renewable resources.

Prada Re-Nylon is made of ECONYL®, a regenerated-nylonyarn that can be recycled an indefinite number of times without affecting the quality of the material. ECONYL® yarn is made by recycling discarded plastic collected from landfill sites and oceans across the whole planet and actively contributes to the reduction of the global warming up to 90%* compared to the use of the virgin nylon yarn.

Regeneration and purification: through a chemical de-polymerization procedure, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity.

At production plants in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Arco, Italy, the recycled materials are re-transformed into polymers and threads through a new polymerization process.

SEA BEYOND & EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS As of July 2023, 1% of the proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon Collection supports SEA BEYOND, the educational program launched in 2019 by Prada Group and UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) to raise awareness on sustainability and ocean preservation. Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada S.p.A. Executive Director & Prada Group Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, has been invited by UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay to become “Patron of the Ocean Decade Alliance”. This honour comes in recognition of the vital role the private sector can play in supporting ocean knowledge for sustainable development and Prada Group’s commitment to protecting the ocean through its SEA BEYOND educational program particularly aimed at younger generations. The coastal city of Qingdao hosted the “Ocean&Climate Village” temporary exhibition during October floors of the Qingdao Haitian Center, one of the tallest buildings in the world. This new edition of the project was curated by IOC/UNESCO & UNESCO China with support from Prada Group and invited visitors to explore the link between the ocean and climate, with the goal ofdisseminating the principles of ocean literacy among the new generations. SEA BEYOND chose the UCCA Foundation for Art and Education as a partner for the project, a body that promotes the dissemination of culture through educational art programs for children

2020 - The first edition of the project involved a network of secondary schools on an international scale and explored the theme of ocean awareness and its values, the issue of plastic-related pollution of the marine environment and the fashion industry’s contribution to sustainable production practices for the benefit of the seas.

2022 - Second Edition of program saw students from ten schools around the world participate in a series of webinars led by UNESCO experts to explore the ten Ocean Decade Challenges for Sustainable Development.

2023 - Prada Group and UNESCO presented the first “Kindergarten of the Lagoon” outdoor education experience for pre-school children in Venice on Torcello Island
