Estates

We’re excited to share some fantastic news about how our Trust is continuing to invest in the future of our schools not just in terms of buildings, but also in sustainability and energy efficiency

Over the past year, Lydd Primary School has undergone a major upgrade to its heating system, thanks to a successful bid from the government’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF). £1.3 million funding was allocated to enable us to install a hybrid heating system that combines traditional gas boilers with modern heat pump technology

The gas boilers quickly bring water up to the required temperature, and then the heat pumps take over to maintain that warmth efficiently. The system is managed by a smart building control system, which ensures consistent heating and hot water while also making it easy to spot and fix any issues

This project has been in the works for over a year and is now in its final stages Once fully commissioned, it will not only provide reliable heating but also help us significantly reduce the schools carbon footprint.

Following the success at Lydd, we’re thrilled to announce that Dymchurch Primary School has also secured £1.7 million from the CIF to install a similar system. Work will begin over the summer, with full commissioning expected in 2026

As a Trust, we are committed to investing in technologies that improve the condition of our school sites while also supporting our environmental goals. These new systems are a big step forward in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and creating a more sustainable future for our children

Thank you for your continued support as we work to make our schools greener, safer, and more efficient places for learning and growth

Community Trust-WideDanceFestivalBringsJoy, EnergyandTogetherness

On Wednesday 21 May, the school hall at Minterne Junior School was alive with rhythm, colour, and celebration as pupils from across Our Community Multi Academy Trust came together for our first-ever Trust-Wide Dance Festival. Organised by the passionate and dedicated Mrs Thatcher, the event was a joyful showcase of talent, teamwork, and pure enthusiasm

From the very youngest dancers to confident upper Key Stage 2 performers, every child who stepped onto the stage brought something special. With a wide range of dance styles on display from upbeat group routines to expressive solo performances the event truly celebrated creativity and individuality

There was something magical about seeing so many age groups coming together, supporting each other and sharing in the excitement Whether it was nerves from the dancers or cheers from those watching, the sense of community and inclusion shone brightly throughout the day

Some of the children visited The Oaks Infant School last month to perform the dance routines from the Festival

Mrs Thatcher shared, "We thought everyone danced brilliantly it was so lovely to see such variety and energy. Everyone really stepped up and took on the challenge, and I’m so very proud of them"

We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

We are deeply grateful to all the staff who supported the event and to the families who encouraged their children to be part of something so memorable. It was a true celebration of what we can achieve when we come together and a reminder of the power of the arts to unite, inspire, and uplift

CelebratingaLifetimeofDedication: HonouringFourIncredibleColleagues

As we reach the end of another academic year, we pause to celebrate four exceptional members of our Trust community who are retiring after decades of devoted service Mrs Karen Brown of Milstead & Frinsted CE Primary School, Mrs Lesley Bronger of Bredgar CE Primary School and Rachel Gray and Julie Rigden from Minterne Junior School have each given their hearts, time, and care to generations of pupils and we are so grateful for everything they have brought to their schools.

MRS KAREN BROWN – A Milstead Pillar

After an incredible 39 years of service, Milstead is saying goodbye to one of its most beloved figures Mrs Karen Brown, once a pupil herself at Milstead, has dedicated her working life to the school as a teacher and more recently as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Her story is one of full-circle community spirit learning, growing, and giving back in the very place where her journey began.

To mark this milestone, Milstead held a surprise collective worship on Monday 21 July, followed by tea and cake, where staff and pupils past and present came together to celebrate her extraordinary contribution There were heartfelt words, shared memories, and plenty of smiles (and a few tears too), all in honour of someone who truly represents the heart of Milstead.

Mrs Brown has been described as a true “Milstead Pillar” Her legacy goes far beyond the classroom her deep roots in the village, her knowledge of local history, and her warm, steady presence have helped generations of children feel connected to their community and proud of where they come from

MRS LESLEY BRONGER – A Constant Star at Bredgar

Over at Bredgar CE Primary School, we’re also celebrating Mrs Lesley Bronger, who is retiring after over 30 years of exceptional service Quietly modest and deeply caring, Mrs Bronger has been a constant presence in school life, known for her thoughtfulness, wisdom, and dedication to the children

To honour her retirement, the school hosted a celebration afternoon on Thursday 17 July, inviting pupils and colleagues past and present to pop in, reconnect, and write messages for her in a book of memories Though Bredgar will miss her daily presence, Mrs Bronger has assured them this isn’t a goodbye. She looks forward to continuing her connection with the school, returning to support learning and activities throughout the year

Last year, the school marked her 20 years of stargazing by naming a real star after her “The Bredgar Bronger Star” a touching tribute to someone who has inspired so many young minds to look up, wonder, and dream big.

Both Mrs Brown and Mrs Bronger were honoured at our recent Trust Conference with a Community Champion Award, recognising the impact they’ve had not only within their schools, but across our wider Trust family.

CelebratingaLifetimeofDedication: HonouringFourIncredibleColleagues

We also say a fond farewell to two long-serving members of staff at Minterne Junior School.

MRS RACHEL GRAY - A Creative Heart of Minterne

Mrs Rachel Gray is leaving Minterne after an incredible 32 years of dedicated service She began her teaching career at the school in 1993 as an NQT and has since taught across Years 3, 4 and 6. After starting as a Geography lead, she later brought her creativity and passion to leading Art and Design Technology, inspiring countless pupils along the way. Since 2000, Rachel has worked part-time while raising her family, and more recently supported children as a tutor for Pupil Premium While she is stepping away from teaching, this isn’t a full retirement but a well-deserved next chapter after three decades of commitment to the Minterne community

MRS JULIE RIGDEN – The Steady Hand and Kind Soul

Joining her in bidding farewell is Mrs Julie Rigden, who is retiring after 16 years as a dedicated Teaching Assistant. In recent years, Julie has taken on the role of Lead TA, offering invaluable support not only to the Year Lead teacher but to the wider TA team She has been a fantastic role model for new staff, showing through her intuitive and caring approach how to support pupils effectively, while always maintaining high standards Julie’s steady presence and compassionate nature have made a lasting impact at Minterne, and she now looks forward to enjoying more time with her family.

Both Rachel and Julie have been much-loved figures in the life of the school, and their warmth, commitment and care will be deeply missed by children and colleagues alike

Supporting your Child’s Transition to Secondary School

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate our wonderful Year 6 pupils who are getting ready to take the next big step on their educational journey. Moving to secondary school is a significant milestone not just for children, but for families too It’s natural to feel a mix of pride, excitement, and perhaps a few nerves

Here are some helpful tips to support your child (and yourself) through this transition:

Talk About What’s Ahead

Open conversations can help ease uncertainty. Talk through what your child is looking forward to and what they might be worried about Reassure them that it’s normal to feel unsure about change, and remind them they’re not alone: many of their peers will be feeling the same

Practise the Journey

If possible, walk or travel the route to their new school a few times before September It helps build familiarity and independence and eases those first-day nerves.

Encourage Organisation

Help your child get used to planning ahead, from packing their bag the night before to managing their own timetable. These are key skills for life at secondary school and beyond.

Reconnect and Reach Out

If they know anyone going to the same school, encourage time together over the summer. Building friendships now can make those first days much more comfortable

Look After Wellbeing

Transitions can be tiring emotionally and physically. Make time for rest, downtime and fun. Let your child know it’s okay to feel all sorts of emotions as they adjust

Stay Connected

Keep in touch with your child’s new school and attend transition events where possible If anything feels unclear or you have concerns, don’t hesitate to ask questions Schools are there to support your family

Mark the Moment

However you choose to do it a special dinner, a card, a photo, or a quiet chat celebrate how far your child has come They’ve grown so much, and this is just the beginning of a whole new adventure

A Final Word

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Year 6 pupils. They leave us with knowledge, resilience, and values that will carry them far. We wish them—and their families—every success and happiness in this next chapter.

ParentZone AllAboardtheToiletTrain!Helping ChildrenGetReadyforSchool

Starting school is an exciting adventure, and while there’s lots to think about – from new uniforms to making friends – toileting doesn’t need to be a worry

That’s why ERIC, The Children’s Bowel & Bladder Charity, has launched their All Aboard the Toilet Train campaign –a fantastic initiative designed to help families, carers and early years professionals support children in becoming toilet trained and ready for school.

ERIC is working alongside the Department for Education to reverse the trend of later toilet training and ensure children are ready for this important step Their approach is gentle, supportive, and judgement-free

Toileting doesn’t need to be stressful Just remember these simple steps to help your child feel confident and independent:

Prepare: Pack a bag with essentials like spare pants, trousers, and wipes – just in case!

Practice: Use toilets in different places, including hand dryers and flushes, so new environments feel familiar.

Pants: Try wearing big kid pants and practise pulling them up and down when going to the loo

Plan: Get into a toilet routine before school starts – regular timings help build confidence

Praise: Every effort is worth celebrating! Give a big clap or high-five for every loo success.

Free Support for Families and Schools

ERIC offers a free digital resource pack with leaflets, videos and advice sheets. Parents can sign up for weekly emails full of helpful guidance and tips.

Need more help? You can also access ERIC’s helpline via an online form for personalised support

Sign up and find out more at: wwwericorguk/all-aboard-the-toilet-train-get-ready-for-school

With ERIC’s help, your child can take this important step with confidence –and a big smile!

What if things aren’t quite there yet? Don’t worry — you’re not alone. Many children are still learning to use the toilet confidently when they start school Some may have accidents because they’re not quite ready, or because of medical reasons such as constipation And for children with additional needs, toilet training might take a little longer and that’s okay.

Could it be constipation?

Constipation is more common than many parents realise around 1 in 3 children will experience it. A full bowel can press on the bladder and cause wee accidents, so treating constipation can really help with overall toileting progress

Look out for signs, including:

Pooing less than 4 times a week

Hard or painful poos

Skid marks in pants

A bloated tummy or poor appetite

Check out ERIC’s Poo Checker and factsheet Advice for Children with Constipation to learn what’s normal and when to seek help

Healthy bladder and bowel habits

The bladder and bowel work best with:

6–8 drinks of water-based fluid every day

A toilet trip 20–30 minutes after meals (this matches the body’s natural reflexes) No drinks being limited to “avoid accidents” – restricting fluids can actually make things worse

Let your child help choose a water bottle for school and practise opening and closing it Praise them if they refill it during the day that’s a big win!

Planning ahead: What to do before school starts

Here are some easy ways to get your child feeling more independent and confident before they walk into the classroom:

✔ Practice using toilets outside of the home – try public loos at shops or libraries to get used to unfamiliar settings

✔ Dress for success – avoid tricky fastenings like buttons, tights, or belts Choose elasticated waistbands and easy-to-pull-down clothes

✔ Pack a spare kit – put a small bag together with pants, wipes and a change of clothes Talk to the teacher about where it can be kept

✔ Create a home routine – build regular toilet visits into your daily schedule

✔ Use ERIC’s visual resources like TomTags or reminder watches if your child needs extra prompts

Talk to the school

Schools are there to support your child’s needs so don’t be afraid to speak up. You’re helping them understand how best to support your child’s transition

Let the teacher or SENDCo know about any ongoing bladder or bowel concerns

Show them ERIC’s School Toilets information, including the Individual Healthcare Plan

Ask about the local school nursing team or parent forums they can be great sources of help and reassurance

What about night-time wetting?

Still using nappies at night? That’s perfectly normal Bedwetting is not considered a medical issue until age 5, and for some children, night-time dryness takes longer

Here’s how to support your child:

Encourage drinking during the day – but stop drinks an hour before bed

Get into the habit of a final wee just before sleep

Protect the mattress with a waterproof cover

Visit ERIC’s website for info and products that can help

ERIC also has a factsheet: Advice for Children with Night Time Wetting

You’re not alone

Whatever stage your child is at, ERIC is here to help From practical tools to free webinars and expert advice, they’re the UK’s leading children’s bowel and bladder charity – and they’re just a click or call away.

Borden CE Primary School

“Learning together, achieving together, growing together in God’s love”

It’s been a fun-filled and memorable couple of terms at Borden CE Primary, packed with learning, laughter and adventure. Our Year 6 pupils worked incredibly hard to complete their SATs and celebrated their achievements with a fantastic residential trip to PGL The whole school came together for a brilliant Sports Day on the Playstool field, kindly supported by the parish council, and we’ve enjoyed enriching trips to the beach, Quex Park, Wildwood and even a theatre visit to see Wicked in London Alongside our many local church visits, these experiences have helped bring learning to life across the curriculum.

We were also thrilled to welcome BBC Radio Kent into school, where some of our children were interviewed about how they were staying cool during the heatwave! As we wrap up the academic year, we wish our wonderful Year 6s all the very best as they move on to their new schools in September – we hope they’ll stay in touch We’re also looking forward to welcoming our new Reception children and their families to Borden Wishing everyone a safe, sunny, and well-deserved summer break.

Chestnut Class have been reaching for the stars with their exciting topic on space exploration From astronauts to orbits, the children have been discovering fascinating facts about our solar system and beyond Their curiosity has been fuelled by imaginative learning and a sense of wonder about the universe. Inspired by their virtual voyage through space, the children created their own miniature models of the solar system With creativity and care, they brought planets to life in the classroom, deepening their understanding of the scale, order and uniqueness of each planet It’s been an out-of-this-world learning journey!

Cherry Class were among the first to test out our brand-new laptops, combining creativity with technology in a vibrant art project Exploring the technique of pointillism, the children took inspiration from the iconic work of Georges Seurat and brought his style into the digital age

Using a digital painting program, they carefully crafted their own masterpieces, dot by dot The results were a stunning blend of colour, patience and precision a brilliant example of how technology can enhance artistic expression and learning.

The whole school came together for a vibrant House collaboration day focused on well-being, centred around the uplifting theme of Hope Children took part in a range of creative activities, with a shared sense of purpose and joy A highlight of the day was the collaborative creation of a giant rainbow a striking symbol of unity and optimism all proudly displayed in school

Bredgar CE Primary School
