The Greater Decatur Chorale
With ongoing support from generous individual donors and our valued presenting sponsor WAND 17 HD, the Greater Decatur Chorale has delighted audiences with their uplifting musical performances for over 27 years. If you would like to be part of this talented group of vocalists, please call 422-5911 for more information or to schedule an audition time. Auditions for the spring semester will be held on January 14. The spring semester runs from January 21 - June 2.
Director Cyndi Johnson
Cyndi Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education (cum laude) from Millikin University. Following graduation, she taught vocal music to Kindergarten - 12th graders in Arthur, Illinois and directed the district’s high school show choirs. She has served as assistant director for the award-winning Mt. Zion show choirs, vocal director for the Decatur Park Singers, and staff instructor for the Eastern Illinois University Show Choir camp. Cyndi currently is a highly respected adjudicator and clinician for various Illinois music festivals. She currently teaches first to third grade general music and produces elementary musicals in the Mt. Zion School District. She also offers private voice lessons, directs her church choir, and produces several cantatas and special features throughout the year. Her love of music is shared with her husband Kevin and children Nate, Gabe and Isaiah. This is Cyndi’s second year directing the Greater Decatur Chorale.
Accompanist Anita Gifford
Anita Gifford grew up in Decatur, studying piano with Bonnie Jacobs and Kay Hoffland. After graduating from Stephen Decatur High School, she continued her education at Northwestern University with Professor Laurence Davis. She later completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications at Wheaton College and returned to Decatur, where she met her husband David. The couple has two daughters, Haley and Hannah. Anita enjoys accompanying the Chorale, coordinating worship at Riverside Baptist Church, teaching band and choir at Decatur Christian School, accompanying choirs and soloists at Millikin University and Warrensburg-Latham High School, and teaching private piano lessons.
