Park Watch Program

In response to an ongoing problem with vandalism, the Decatur Park District developed the Park Watch program to help prevent crimes in our parks, properties and facilities. Park Watch offers rewards for information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for these crimes. Please be on the look-out. Park District property belongs to all in our community and is supported by tax dollars. If you witness suspicious activity or have a tip, call Park Watch at 422-5911. You may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000. All tips and information are helpful, and you may remain anonymous. The Decatur Park District cares about the safety of our visitors and strives to ensure that playground equipment, park grounds, and facilities remain in excellent condition. Please help us in this effort! Follow posted safety rules and note age designations for appropriate use of playground equipment. Insurance While the Park District is committed to conducting recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, an inherent risk of injury exists with any recreational activity. The Decatur Park District does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained on its property or in its programs, as the cost of such insurance would make program fees cost-prohibitive. Behavior/Conduct Guidelines The following guidelines have been created to help make Decatur Park District programs safe and enjoyable for all. The Park District reserves the right to develop additional rules for programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff and the Park Board of Commissioners. Participants are asked to: • Show respect to all participants and staff • Refrain from using foul language • Refrain from causing bodily harm to others • Refrain from damaging equipment, supplies and facilities

Decaturâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Lakefront A revitalized Nelson Park lakefront is taking shape! Construction of a fitness trail, dog park, and disc golf course are complete, and new promenade and docks adjacent to the Beach House will be completed soon. Thanks to a collaboration between the Park Board of Commissioners and the Decatur City Council, the Nelson Park lakefront area will soon become a destination place to attract visitors for outdoor recreation, family gatherings, and festivals. Schaub Floral Display Center

Zoo-rific Evening at Scovill Zoo

Rustic pines and colorful poinsettias fill the center during the holiday season, while tulips, daffodils, and hyacinth make their appearance during the spring and summer months. The Floral Display Center and Greenhouse were made possible through grants and a generous gift from the Lindsay-Schaub newspapers and Robert D. Schaub. Stay healthy with the DISC’s free fitness assessments – a real perk for all facility pass holders! Our certified instructors evaluate weight measurements, waist-to-hip ratio, body fat percentage, blood pressure, and resting heart rate. You’ll receive an explanation of your results and how they affect your health. You’ll also receive a personalized workout recommendation. Assessments take just 15–30 minutes. Additional sessions are available for a nominal fee. Contact our qualified professionals, Jeff Rounds and Sam Blankenship, to help you achieve your fitness goals!

Personal Fitness Instruction

Take action now and hire a DISC personal trainer! Personal fitness instruction is available to all DISC members and non-members for a nominal fee.

September - April, 9 - 9:45 a.m. Thinking about a fitness class but not sure you’ll like it? “Test drive” the DISC’s fitness classes every Saturday morning from September to April from 9 – 9:45 a.m.! Each Saturday, a different class will be offered free of charge to all full-facility pass holders and anyone enrolled in a current 6-week class. Non-members may also try out the class for just $3.00. Give us a try!

ROCK CLIMBING Experience the thrill of rock climbing at the DISC! A great team-building activity for families, co-workers, and school groups. Open Climbing Hours Monday - Friday 5 - 9 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday noon - 5 p.m. Daily Fee $6 1-hour Rental $77 Certified belayers may climb during facility hours. All rock climbing classes are scheduled by appointment.

Scovill Zoo Winter Classroom Programs

Teachers and home school groups looking for engaging new ways to get students interested in science can now hold class at Scovill Zoo! In our new Winter Classroom programs, students take classes on site at Scovill Zoo with our degreed scientists and zoo keepers. Sessions are designed for specific grade levels and aligned with Illinois State Education Standards. If you love to dance and perform, sign up now for the Decatur Park District’s fall and winter sessions! The dance/drama curriculum is comprehensive and designed to give students of all ages the best possible instruction, helping them build confidence in their abilities and instilling a sense of commitment to themselves and their peers. Arts Artist-in-Residence Enhance your school’s cultural arts offerings with a Decatur Park District artist-in-residence! After-school workshops and day-long or week-long sessions are available on topics such as set construction, lighting, choreography, acting, and preparing a show for your school! Volunteer! To be successful, arts programs rely on the talents of directors, choreographers, technical supervisors, crew members, performers, and volunteers. Please be a part of the C.A.S.T. (cultural arts support team)! Volunteers are needed to work behind the scenes as stage assistants, stage managers, ushers, and greeters. Call 421-6648 for details.

Jerry Menz Arts Scholarship The Jerry Menz Arts Scholarship provides opportunities for talented youth to succeed at the highest possible levels in the arts by offering scholarships for the Park District’s programs in voice, music, drama, and dance. Awards are based on staff recommendations, participation in Park District programs, and a demonstrated talent and passion for the performing arts. FIT 3 at the DISC If you’re aged 50 or better, get healthy with Fit 3! Our certified instructors provide individualized training on the fitness machines, then develop a program just for you. Receive 3 FREE visits to the DISC, newsletters with information on health screenings, and valuable nutrition tips. This program benefits from a generous donation from the Whinnery Trust.

Health Screenings Take advantage of the DISC’s free or low-cost health screenings, provided by Decatur Memorial Hospital! Each month from 7 - 9 a.m., DMH offers a specific screening test, along with free blood pressure checks. Dates: October 10, November 14, December 12, January 9, February 13 & March 13 Time: 7 - 9 a.m.

Forever Fit Forever Fit is an exercise program created with people 50 years of age and older in mind. This low impact class is designed to improve flexibility, endurance, and strength for each participant, leading to more energy, confidence, and satisfaction in your daily life. Each class includes resistance training, balance training, low impact aerobics and stretching. Wii Wednesdays This extension of the Fit 3 program offers the benefits of social interaction, exercise, and coordination. Participants play fun, mentally and physically challenging games on the Wii. Decatur residents make contributions to the operation of the agency through property taxes. If you live within Decatur Park District boundaries, you benefit from a resident discount. To receive this discount, simply provide proof of residency when you register. Once your information is recorded, you will not need to prove residency again unless your address changes. Acceptable forms of proof include a valid driver’s license or current electric, gas, or water bill. Online For your convenience, online registration for most Park District activities is available!
