Anita Cruz-Eberhard Digital Ikebanas Présenté par Sam Stourdzé
La série Digital Ikebanas s’inspire de l’art traditionnel japonais de la composition florale, une discipline du zen apparue au VIIe siècle. Les arrangements d’Anita Cruz-Eberhard suivent les règles de la discipline : composition sculpturale minimaliste aux lignes gracieuses, associant des formes et espèces naturelles variées. Anita Cruz-Eberhard fait partie de cette génération d’artistes travaillant sur le thème de l’appropriation, domaine qui s’est largement étendu grâce au réseau Internet et à la photographie digitale. Ses compositions florales, qu’elle qualifie de « trompe-l’œil », témoignent du caractère illusoire de l’authenticité photographique. Elles sont réalisées à partir d’images collectées dans des bases de données en ligne des départements de biologie d’universités internationales. Malgré leur caractère réaliste — depuis la reproduction des végétaux jusqu’à l’arrangement des compositions —, ces ikebanas n’existent que sous la forme d’images digitales ou de tirages photographiques, et explorent la relation entre artifice et nature. The series Digital Ikebanas is inspired by the traditional Japanese art of floral composition, one of the disciplines of Zen appeared in the 7th century. Anita Cruz-Eberhard’s arrangements strictly abide to the rules of the discipline : a gracious minimalist sculptural composition combining a variety of natural forms and species. Anita Cruz-Eberhard belongs to a generation of artists working on appropriation, a field to which the rise of the Internet and digital photography has greatly contributed. Her floral compositions, qualified as “trompe-l’œil”, bear witness to the illusory nature of photographic authenticity. They are realized with a variety of images collected on the online databases of biology departments of international universities. In spite of their realistic nature — from the reproduction of plants through composition arrangements —, these Ikebanas exist only in the form of digital images or prints, and explore the links between artifice and nature.
