At Eltham Hill School we value every student as an individual and are totally committed to enabling them all to experience Excellence, Happiness and Success.

We are a diverse and vibrant community and visitors say they can feel the creativity and warmth in our school simply from stepping inside the building. We provide many varied opportunities for our students to discover and develop their talents.

We are proud to be an IB International School and take every opportunity to increase students understanding of the wider world through our curriculum offer, trips abroad and by hosting regular groups of visitors from other countries.

We aim to support our students to become confident, articulate and thoughtful young people. We nurture their leadership skills, resilience and independent thinking through a wide variety of learning experiences and our strong pastoral team ensure that emotional and mental well-being are as important as academic success.

Our Post 16 centre is co-educational. We offer a range of A Levels and are the only school in Greenwich authorised to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme.

My priority as the Principal of this wonderful school is to ensure that every student loves their time at school and achieves to their full potential. We have amazing facilities, a committed and caring staff and I hope you choose our school for the next stage of your educational journey.

On behalf of the Governing Body, I would like to welcome you to Eltham Hill School. Our Governing Body is made up of parents, local authority, coopted staff and student governors who successfully work together to help lead the work of our outstanding school.

We actively encourage all parents and carers to feel part of the school and to get involved in our community. We understand that parents and carers lead busy lives and therefore offer flexible opportunities for you to keep in touch with teaching staff and to attend parents’ evenings, so you can follow your sixth-formers's progress throughout their schooling experience.

Our ambition is to be the centre of educational excellence for our community.

We celebrate diversity and seek to nurture the gifts of each individual through high quality teaching and learning and dedicated pastoral care.

We aim to successfully prepare every student for his or her future career pathway. Every student is an exception, an individual and is valued.

Community We are proud to have ‘community’ at the heart of our Post 16 school.

Annual events such as Make a Difference Day, Black History Month and our Inter Generational Projects put equality and diversity at the centre of our school.

Our students have sponsored many charities during these events through their ingenious fundraising activities.

Our students support and regularly fundraise for the charity “Commonwealth Girls Education Fund".

As part of our community links, we work closely with our local primary schools and with other schools locally and nationally.

Teaching and Learning Eltham Hill Post 16 teachers have excellent subject knowledge and passion for their subject, woven into the fabric of their lives, both inside and outside school, which they model and share with students.

Eltham Hill teachers use an explicit pedagogy based on a cycle of (PIP): • Pre-class prescribed research, preparation and reading using state of the art technology • In-class teaching and learning which combines and applies students’ and teachers’ knowledge, understanding, skills and language • Post-class consolidation activities and tasks to allow the learning gained in class to be practised, demonstrated, tracked and assessed

Our teachers create distinctive, active and challenging learning environments in which classes are conducted in styles that replicate their subjects at university and in the world of work.

Ipads At Eltham Hill Post 16 all students are loaned iPads to support them with PIP learning.

The use of iPads add to our students in-class learning experience and develops them as expert and independent learners.

Pastoral support Each Post 16 student is allocated to a tutor group and a tailored tutorial programme which links to their chosen specialism.

This includes support with UCAS preparation.

Students also have regular oneto-one tutorial sessions

to support their academic success.

Students have access to student support managers and independent study times in specialised rooms.

Post 16 Curriculum

Entry requirements for:

Eltham Hill School offers a wide range of A levels and the IB Career Related Programme (BTEC option). Students at Post 16 benefit from the outstanding facilities offered by the state of the art buildings at the school.

Six A*-C GCSE’s (and grade 9-5s in English and Maths). 9-6 or A*-B GCSE results in your chosen subject choices.

IB Career Related Programme (BTEC Option) 8 Grade 9-4 or equivalent To find out more about the A Level and IBCP courses offered please visit our website. Please note, if insufficient numbers of students choose a particular course, then it may not be viable to run that course.

IB Career-related Programme (BTEC Option) The IB Career-related Programme (CP) is designed for students interested in pursuing a career-related education in the final two years of secondary school.

The course develops students’ skills by engaging them in career-related education that still has a strong academic focus. The programme can lead to further and higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

IBCP students study a BTEC Diploma subject, two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses and a core consisting of four components .

Who is the IBCP for?

The IBCP was specifically developed for students who wish to engage in careerrelated learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement.

How do IB programmes support university and career readiness?

University and career readiness refers not only to content knowledge but skills and habits that students must have to succeed in postsecondary education or training that leads directly to the workforce.

In addition to providing academic rigour, IB programmes develop skills such as time management and critical thinking that have been identified as necessary to successfully navigate, persist in and complete university.

Enrichment, Partnerships and Progression We offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities to support our students into higher education and the world of work.

Eltham Hill Post 16 World Challenge Eltham Hill Post 16 students have the unique opportunity to participate in an International World Challenge in Tanzania. This is a real adventure that challenges and develops our students as global citizens and can be a life changing experience. The expedition offers a physical challenge, the opportunity to make a contribution to the local community and a range of enjoyable cultural activities.

Post 16 visitors have incuded: Dame Marjorie Scardino. the first female chief executive of a FTSE 100 company (Pearson), visited the school and spoke to our Year 12 students about how she became so successful.

Sir Ian McKellen visited Eltham Hill School, a Stonewall School Champion, to raise awareness of homophobic prejudice and bullying.

US Ambassador, Matthew Barzun, visited Eltham Hill School and spoke to students in Years 11, 12 and 13 about the United States of America.

Peter Barron, Google’s Director of External Relations for Europe, Middle East and Africa, visited the school and spoke inspirationally to our Year 12 students about how his choices in his education, were the main foundation for his successful career.

Our Post 16 enrichment programme aims to broaden the range of students’ interests, provide useful skills and knowledge for university life and beyond and give opportunities for earning some extra qualifications.
