Don’t miss the live auction to benefit the Rotary Club of Ellicottville on Saturday at 2 p.m. featuring pieces of art from the fair merchants. Saturday will also feature a quilting workshop and quilt show all day across Washington Street at the Episcopal Church. Of course, what’s a fair without music? There will be entertainment in the Gazebo featuring Red Gray on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a surprise artist on Sunday. No need to pack a lunch. The Rotary Club hot dog cart will be there, along with some great homemade baked goods for you to enjoy. If you’re an artist and would like to be part of this great event, there’s still time to join in! Just show up early for the fair and set up a booth space. It’s free and open to artists of all ages—the only requirements are that the items being sold are made by the person selling them, and that one item is donated to the auction. Stop by for a summer weekend of fun and creativity!

Back for the fifth year, the International Bowhunting Organization World Championship will descend on Holiday Valley Resort on Aug 6-9. The World Championship is the final and most important competition of the season for the best-of-the-best male and female shooters in the world.
According to Dave Wisniewski, owner of Dave’s Archery in Erie, PA, the competition is broken into six different levels and then classes within each level, including non-competitive classes, youth competitive classes; entry-level adult classes; advanced amateur classes; semi-pro classes and professional classes. “You’re probably going to see about 12,000 shooters” in Ellicottville, Wisniewski said. “And for some of them, this is all they do, all year long.” To be a qualifier for World’s, Wisniewski said, an archer needs to be within the top 20 percent of shooters after the first, second and third legs of the National Championship Triple Crown. Each class works differently, he said, but the class he will be competing in, Men’s Senior (MSR), consists of shooting 20 animal-like targets over two days, from different fields. Plant Bids Exceed Estimates Amended Bond Resolution Approved By Jann Wiswall
The Village of Ellicottville’s board accepted the low bid of $4,228,000 for contractor services for the new wastewater treatment plant at its July 13 meeting. The contractor, STC Construction, expects to begin work as soon as next week.
Electrical contractor bids for the project, which are expected to be in the $1.5 million range, will be awarded next month. The original estimated cost of the project was $4.9 million, and that is the amount of a bond resolution that was approved by the Village board
earlier this year. Because the project now exceeds that amount, the board amended the bond resolution to authorize borrowing a total of $5,763,000. In May, the board rejected all bids because they even See Village Board page 8

Weather Challenges EVL Road Crews Board Addresses Noise Pollution By Jann Wiswall
Weather was the hot topic of discussion at the Town of Ellicottville’s board meeting on Wednesday, July 15, following the previous day’s torrential rains that dumped five or more inches of water on the area.
Town Supervisor John Burrell reported that the fire department had 11 call-outs on Tuesday evening about roads that were flooded or washed out. Highway Superintendent Loyd Hovey said that Coon
Road had been closed due to a serious washout and Cotter, Jackman Hill, Canada Hill, and Town Line roads all had significant damage. Burrell also noted that Rt. 219 near Tim Horton’s had been closed See Town Board page 9
